Why did nobody on the Mainland ever try to bond multiple Aviars?

Aviars are not new. Else the remark about nobody finding a new kind of Aviar in a long time makes no sense. They also have a university. So why haven't they found out that you can have multiple Aviars?

I would propose that it is not quite so easy as Sixth of the Dusk makes it sound

• you must bond near the Eye of Patji
• the chick to be added must be really young
• it must recently have gotten the worm

They must also be quite expensive to procure.

And yeah, it seems you need to be able to form a bond (lower case, normal bonding) with the bird in order to form a Bond.

People who would be in a position to discover that secret would be Eelakin trappers, like Sixth & his uncle, either guarding the knowledge and/or dying before they could pass it on.

The trappers would've been much more interested in trapping wild Aviar if they were easier to Bond rather than raising them.

I think the reasons for this would be three fold;

1. They're expensive, so not many would be able to get their hands on two to even try.

2. Creating/Maintaining compatibility with both birds would be difficult

3. It's not widely known, so unless some stumbles across it, which is unlikely due to reason's 1 and 2, then people won't know to even try.

 

In Dusk's case, it seems to be a combination of Sak is almost entirely dependent on him, and Kokerlii is just friendly as all get out, so neither bird minds the shared attention.

they never knew how Aviar are made. all they know is that they are native to the Islands and can only come from there.

Dusk told Vathi that they all have to go, specifically, to the Eye of Patji, and eat the worms to become an Aviar(while theyre young) 

imagine your just like Vathi and have absolutely no knowledge about aviar, other that the fact that they come from the islands and grant magical powers.

would you just be like "woopty doo... im just gonna bring this random baby bird through the most dangerous place on the planet and let it eat some fruit below a tree to see if it gets magic powers"

that sounds crazy. 

 

on top of that the Trappers(who are most knowledgeable on Aviar) are extremely reclusive and dont share any knowledge with outsiders.

Aviar are really rare and cost a fortune, youd be lucky to even get one.

It is. But bonding two of them is not a crazy wish. They consider it impossible, but why?

People are not logic engines, @Oltux72. The Mainlanders made assumptions, wrong assumptions, based on what they knew, which wasn't much.

And after contact with the Ones Above, which is presumably when & how they developed the capacity to build destroyer class ships, they had their eyes set on the larger prize of Patji itself.

how many different Aviar are known? would owning 2 even make sense?

If the only thing Aviars did is hiding you from creatures that do not exist on the mainland, Aviars wouldn't sell except as novelty items.

even though I only recently read the story I can not remember if it was said that the ones arround the Pantheon are the only predetors.
its also not too odd that an item is sought after for its novelty.

 

my point still stands. we don't know which abilities exist. if there is only 1 usefull ability (i.e. 2 known in total, you ruled out the hiding) then there is still no reason to own 2.
