  1. Think about this, please, because I am not sure what it means. If the Everstorm is a controlled Highstorm, or any other derivative of a Highstorm, why did the (place that was at least strikingly similar to:) purelake in Dalinar's vision have water in it.
  2. I am grudgingly at least giving it a possibility in my mind that it's an honorblade. We only know for fact that the blades behave differently at death. Potentially, via the Taln section at the end of WotK, the blades don't inherently vanish when dropped or consciousness is lost - it is still feasible to believe that they can be dismissed and summoned at will. Carrying around a large unwieldy weapon would be problematic at best. What would happen if you kicked your heel up into it? (The images in my head right now. Let me tell you. LOL) Either way, we can't use a tiny bit of non-PoV of an Honorblade to presume that by that behavior alone, Szeth's is or isn't one. IIRC, Szeth was ordered to do it brutally, or something similar to that, does that translate to killing heaps of men, or simply just making it look like a bloody mess? On my most recent re-read, I tended to fall in with the latter. Edit: LOL Moogle, sorry for essentially repeating what you said - didn't notice you posted ahead of me.
  3. I literally just finished my reread and missed that. Good catch on the quote brotha's that theorize together, save the world together.
  4. Welcome! Unfortunately - if it's not a WoB, it's highly implied that Szeth doesn't have a spren, and isn't technically a real, legit surgebinder at all - but have an introductory upvote Edit: Me being me, I would totally give you quotes but my computer is being wonky right now. I would still love more information on Szeth's rock and any magical properties therein
  5. I agree Moogle, Dalinar has won the hearts and minds of the readers, I really enjoy reading his PoV's and quite like him - but I like him more for his blustering baddassery heaps and bounds over what he is doing to unite Alethkar - which is fundamentally the opposite of what Honor wanted of him, wasting time dealing with the HighPrinces when he should be doing what Taravangian is doing - in a more productive way. Taravangian - and those (potentially Mr. Darkness, AKA agent smith) who are doing terrible things (like having Dalinar added to THE LIST) in order to PREVENT a coming desolation - are a little late IMO. Taln returned - as we saw in the final pages of WotK - which to me tells us that it's pretty much unavoidable at this moment, and in all likelihood - killing surgebinders will not hinder the coming Everstorm. Unfortunately - everyone is a little off of where they should be. They have, what, 60 some days - if we can presume that the countdown is towards the Everstorm. Providing that the Desolation comes from a single location - such as a Highstorm, which we have no proof of (iirc) - there is no time - even if EVERYONE dropped everything and focused towards providing a unified front. Simply sending messengers to the separate ruling bodies would take much of that time, to say nothing of mobilizing troops, and setting them to march. I'm of a mind that 60 some odd days is too short a time to do about anything aside from filling the pages with bickering highprinces. What does that leave us with? Either A) Roshar will remain divided and be forced into a continent wide (or possibly fairly localized) massive conflict with no preparation, against an enemy that is possibly bringing YOU, the reader, your tea or purple wine right now. Or B.) Something will actually prevent or more likely, delay the countdown. All of this is conditional on the countdown actually terminating with a desolation.
  6. Thoughts. Dalinar steps up to fight someone, Szeth maybe. BAM! There's Gavilar's Shardblade - just like I said. Materializes right in the gut. Goodbye? Sadeas? (Hate him like a red headed stepchild, but I can see him going out in glory for Elhokar. Maybe. Hate to say this seems like how I would feel reading that Szeth carries an Honorblade. Incredibly descriptive scene where Shallan tries her hand (hehe) at drawing a certain adult style japanese anime? (please don't ban me for that post)
  7. That would be because Sadeas is no fun to talk about :3
  8. Maybe it started all going terribly wrong when Honor was shattered.
  9. There are a bunch of theories on this floating around - mostly centered on the strongbox and it's contents. Lot's of people think shardblade, soulcaster, spren, and my personal favorite - Odium (but it's horribly baseless, if not amazing) Shallan wouldn't need a soulcaster to soulcast - if this was done accidentally, or was traumatic enough for her to block out some of the deets.
  10. Dalinar's biggest problem, aside from the way he politicks, is that he isn't doing what Honor asked of him. He's wasting SO MUCH effort simply uniting Alethkar, while sort of half-assing the thought of putting together the radiants. I realize its early on still - and he can do that, provided Szeth doesn't off him, Still, his approach is too close-minded, focusing on Alethkar instead of UNITING THEM, IE throwing down the dragon's peace at Merrilor.
  11. that would be alligator scales then, sir. Lol, it's a female version of Colossus from x-men. Brandon is trolling us with an epic-fantasy crossover.
  12. My original thoughts were a soucast lighteyes - as they tend to statue the dead. But it says like stone, not as stone. Plus, the fact that she is unnamed means that the PoV doesn't recognize or associate with the subject.
  13. :3 Cowardly. He takes the easy way out, little to no threat. He apparently would shy away from others more threatening.
  14. But he was coward enough to kill Rock's cousin for a pile of goodies. Kinda sleezy. Fit's him perfectly.
  15. (Let it be known that interest in this question does not translate into affection towards Sadeas) (Also I place this topic here, rather than in WotK because it contains specific relation to WoR) We see from a Dalinar PoV - following the Chasmfiend hunt, that Sadeas is a mentionably skilled swordsman. He doesn't draw steel or anything, but inner monologue tells us plenty. We know from Andolin's duel, that shard-bearers can borrow from royal stock if lacking a piece of the set, so why hasn't Sadeas borrowed a blade and bet his plate to gain the blade he so coveted (prior to gaining oathbringer) We know he would likely not duel Andolin - but Sadeas, being a true Alethi, through and through, covets pride, wealth, and power like none-other, and loves the thrill, or Thrill, of competition. If he is as good as Dalinar suggests, I can't reason him out of picking on a lower ranking shardbearer, much like Andolin, and laying down the law. Did the fear of losing his plate worry him so much?
  16. I was intrigued as I read over the pre-release chapters from WoR, especially or specifically. The intrigue stemmed from this: WoR Chapter 1: Santhid If you notice, the word memory is capitalized - and described as a noun, or more properly, a thing or ability. Is Memory, caps, an ability related to her surgebinding, or a separate thing? It reminds me of the measurements from WotK Interlude, Geranid - at least a little.
  17. I also redact my theory as Eshonai says that the honorblade could have created the surgebinding kaladin did.
  18. Dawnshards are not explicitly swords, or weapons even - to our knowledge. From Epigraph 36: And our Very Own Coppermind's article on Dawnshards is as such: Whereas the article for Honorblades is quite resolute in it's confirmation that the Honorblades were the instruments of the Heralds. However this opens up a different line of thought - which could become a mini-theory (mini based on the fact that we know next to nothing about Dawnshards) that Szeth's blade is a dawnshard (so that you would have simply had it backwards, Beef Man) In which - maybe the title of this thread should be that Dawnshards Grant the ability to Surgebind
  19. I think it's too early for a major house-cleaning like A Memory of light or any GRRM book. Maybe a few people, but probably secondary importants only - one less-than-important PoV - maybe 2 at the most.
  20. Fair enough I flail about and dish out baseless speculation like mad until someone sets me right or adds to it (thus creating baseful speculation) However the WoB concerning Shardblades being used other than as directed - it makes me think of cleaning the muck off of boots, or making new doors or the like, not forming it into a spear, dagger etc. But with some paracord and a good bo staff borrowed from Napoleon Dynamite, Kal could fashion himself a rather dangerous and massive spear :3
  21. It really is sort of primally terrifying. Auri is (and I hate to say it) my absolute favorite character from any fiction, book, movie, comic, or even song. She comes in little gusts of wind, a few paragraphs at a time - but I look forward to each moment like no other. I think it's pat's best quality as a writer. That one, tiny, singular paragraph that stands out from an entire chapter, or even half of a book. I hate to say that the rest is just filler - because it's not. He's a phenomenal author and every word is amazing, but there are those moments - With Brandon or the Robert Jordan/Brandon Hybrid - I HUNGRILY awaited each new release, because of how much I loved the story, the intricate nature, and the characters. With Rothfuss, I am strangely patient - trusting that he will eventually produce the most amazing conclusion I could ever hope for.
  22. You will someday know Those words are more infuriating to me than any RAFO could ever be. LOL. RAFO can be "i dont want to ruin a future surprise" "no, but I just wanna say rafo to throw you off," "i'm not sure and probably shouldn't say" or anything of the like. You will someday know It's just teases me worse than when my time's up on 1-900-Talk Dirty and Baked Beans is saying goodbye until next time.
  23. I don't believe we have seen different shard instruments aside from the relatively similarly designed blades, and the plate. It brings up another question though, particularly because of Andolin talking to his blade, and particularly because I just read the theory on gemstones/fabrials and all I can think about are gemstones. Someone smarter than me, could you remind me whether or not spren can be captured in a gemstone? If so - could something of an interesting conclusion be drawn from Syl hating shardblades, Andolin crushing the gemstone from Renarin's (now) blade, and something happened causing a bunch of Spren to die off way back when? That is all terribly baseless, but intriguing. Edit: As I'm on the fence still about Szeth's blade being an honorblade - I hate to even ask, but is his blade described as having a gemstone?
  24. I am not sure I can get onboard with kaladin betraying Dalinar. The pair are our honor figureheads. Having said that - this series is said to be massive, and who is to say that one or both of them don't lose their way. I just have a feeling that it won't play out that way. Then again, I couldn't have imagined darkrand following Eye of the World and going into the Great Hunt.
  25. Well, at least we know for a fact that Andolin's spren is the giant one from the interlude chapter with the collector. It's true nature is that of an Egospren, and I do strongly believe that the size is proportionate.
