  1. I'm actually curious about how Dalinar's flashbacks will be handled. He has a lot more to cover than the other characters (pretty much what Hari just talked about). Maybe his time with Gavilar might be skimped a bit until Galivar starts to change.
  2. I would point out here that Adolin was clearly outmatched with 4 opponents, in that same fight it was pointed out to be fair when it was Adolin vs 2 shard bearers, although adolin had already taken some damage there so I'd bump it up to possibly 3 if he's fresh and in top form.
  3. You might not, however I'm reasonably sure Dalinar would think it was a huge deal, from what we've seen he tends to line up with Kaladin's morals quite a bit. So I don't think Dalinar would go around saying Adolin didn't make the mistakes he did in his past if he found out about the murder.
  4. If this happens I think Dalinar will be 100% dead by book 5.
  5. Honestly the thing that struck me regarding Dalinar thinking about his sons is that he repeatedly thinks that Adolin is like him, but pure and didn't make the mistakes he made as Blackthorn. This is in pretty direct contrast with Adolin's murder of Sadeas at the end of the book and I don't think Brandon will let that pass even if Adolin's actions might be welcomed by the Dustbringers(?).
  6. I think you really need to reread the chasm scene then, a lot of those issues are dealt with in respect to Shallan and by the end they simply don't come up (in fact Kaladin's negative emotions when he sees Shallan after that are generally because of her being in a relationship with Adolin). I mean we have him comparing Shallan to most of the members of his family and even Tien favourably, there's no way the Kaladin from the first half of the book would have done that. I'd also point out that in regards to Dalinar Syl shows Kaladin's real feelings; despite momentary quarrels he always thinks Dalinar is honorable, Finally Kaladin also forged bonds with Adolin and Renarin this book, both of whom have light eyes. I agree that these issues aren't over, however his prejudice is certainly much diminished and doesn't seem to colour his personal relationships now. You have to remember that it's pretty clear that light vs dark eyes is pretty crem dung and Alethi society as a whole is wrong on this issue. I think if Kaladin goes to Kholinar in the next book we'll see how his views have changed; he'll be pissed that a poor leader has power simply through having light eyes.
  7. Honestly from WoK alone I'd have to put Jasnah above every character we've seen so far. Without some kind of limitation shown on transmutation she's pretty unstoppable.
  8. @Prognosis; Some of Taravingian's ideas when he's at his most brilliant are utterly awful (wanting anyone below a certain IQ to kill themselves or only allowing smart people to reproduce). As far as I'm concerned this is enough of an indicator to throw his diagram into significant doubt (as well as it seeming to fail to account for Kaladin/the KR).
  9. I feel like Kaladin's very light eyes are indicative of where they'll end up on the social scale. As other people have said, in Alethi culture might tends to mean authority and as Kaladin wasn't really pushed by Szeth who defeated even Dalinar, I can't see anyone other than the King and Danilar having authority over him (and that's likely granted by him as there's no one who could actually force him to do something if push comes to shove, aside from perhaps Jasnah). I think once Radiants become more common we'll see a hierachy in their order and these initial radiants are likely going to act as leaders. So KR's might only start at the ~4th dahn, or maybe even 3rd as the ones shown all seem to be more powerful than shardbearers as baseline. I also think this will come to a head in the next book as it's likely Kaladin will be in Kholinar for some length of time and *will not* agree with what the Queen is doing.
  10. Eh yeah, sorry my point was that I really doubt Shallan would have confided in someone who wasn't broken in a similar way to she was/is/whatever. From what appears to be written there, I don't think Adolin would have been able to recognize exactly what Shallan's expression entailed and the fact that Kaladin did was what really caused Shallan to talk about her past. There was also the issue of her trying to understand Kaladin or get him to stop being angry at all lighteyes which would have been a factor.
  11. Eh, she could see Kaladin had a big chip on his shoulder regarding lighteyes, when she mentioned it he claimed she didn't know what it was like to have been through some of the things in his past (or words to that effect), Shallan then wordlessly showed that she did. Kaladin picks up on it and you would have to assume Shallan knows that Kaladin gets the gist of her past. Basically they both knew the other had something horrible in their past before they confided in each other.
  12. I find this odd because do you expect feelings to happen for each other before they've actually met? If you're talking about other people then it already has for both Shallan and Kaladin, which didn't work out for either of them. As far as "suddenly feelings are happening", Shadolin is far, far more guilty of this than Shalladin, to the point where I wouldn't be surprised if one of Shallan's next truths is "I don't love Adolin" (hopefully the triangle doesn't get that much focus though). As I said in another post, while it may be pretty obvious at this point, if you stop considering whether characters are main or side I feel like a lot of the arguments would dry up (another major chunk is wanting to avoid a triangle). I also agree that Kadolin was very nice in WoR, however I'm worried where Adolin is going to go. He's been repeatedly referred to by Dalinar as being better than him (who still deeply regrets his Blackthorn phase), but I think the Sadeas murder is a pretty stark contrast to that. I do like the contrast between Kaladin and Adolin though; Adolin is portrayed quite 'white and pure' but is actually pretty grey when you get down to it and to other characters Kaladin seems 'grey and moody' but is white when push comes to shove. At the moment Adolin shows significant potential to go down a similar path to Amaram.
  13. Honestly I'm wondering if Brandon was intentionally contrasting him to Kaladin there, who went through a similar thing just before with Elhokar and finally realized how horrific he finds the act. I wonder if Amaram/Sadeas's wife will come back to bite Adolin as I think the message Kaladin got was that everyone is someone's Tien.
  14. Sure, it could well be interpretted as such, however because the explanation for their low numbers didn't include a shortage of spren I can't view this theory (that there's only 3 available spren/bondsmith) as likely at this point in time.
  15. Yeah, I really don't think he'd fit as a squire. It's entirely possible that Syl might remember an Parshendi form that required an Honour Spren though.
  16. Did Brandon say that we'd be shifting protagonists completely? I thought whoever survived the first 5 would be around still, maybe just in the background.
  17. My problem with the theory is that while the quotes say 3 is quite a normal number of bondsmith, I get the impression it can go either up or down from that. The reason given as for why there are a small number of bondsmiths doesn't mention the lack of spren. I do agree though that the important spren seem to like bondsmiths (although I wouldn't really want to be the one who bonded nightwatcher ).
  18. I thought he wasn't trying to fix them, but rather just see what happened with ink in his skin if he absorbed stormlight.
  19. I assume the rate of squires getting spren is much higher than the general populace due to the influence of the KR on their actions. A lot of the men Kaladin commands tend to idolize him, which would lead to them following his ideals, which in turn leads to them being good candidates for honour spren.
  20. I just think that if Adolin gets it he'll do something like murdering Sadeas again and because he's an 'honourary member' of the Windrunners, Kaladin will take issue with it. The only reasoning for that though is Adolins skills/personality and the fact that Kaladin really doesn't have a good history of giving weapons to people.
  21. @Feather; I get that people seemingly dislike main characters getting together because it is done so often, however I think shalladin should be judged on the characters involved and their interactions rather than if they are main characters or not. On Kaladin's side I think Shallan has shown herself to be one of the few characters to genuiny put a smile on his face (previous to this it was only bridge four). On the other hand Kaladin was the first person Shallan ever shared her real past with, which i personally think is huge. I worry about Shallan getting caught up in her lies in the future what with her alter ego and all. That being said the snark between the two was delicious . Something i wonder about though is that Shallan really should have put together Kaladin killing her brother by now. She knows Amaram has her brother's shardplate and I thought Kaladin also shared his history in the flood, a major part of which is Amaram killing his squad and taking the plate/blade (he only mentions omitting Syl).
  22. I've been wondering if it'll go to Adolin before the revelation that he killed Sadeas (and therefore invalidating him as a person who should have wind runner powers). Of course with Kaladin flying off for his home town, perhaps he hid it in a safe place or gave it to someone else to hide? Dalinar or Bridge Four would be the likely candidates for the latter (or Renarin for a twist).
  23. I thought a big part of what split Syl from Kaladin was also the fact that he made two conflicting promises and that's what lead to him needing the third ideal in order to get his bond back. Also I feel like killing Shallan's father there would fall under the umbrella of 'kill to protect' given his history. Speaking of which there still seems to be some issues there on Kaladin's part, I wouldn't be surprised if a future ideal is something about who is suitable to be killed by wind runners. Fear not friend, I am here too .
  24. With that logic Darkness could also just kill the Listeners so that Stormform would never be developed. I think there's not a clear enough link there to justify the killing, especially when it didn't change anything anyway.
  25. I tend to agree, love triangles are often frustrating things in my experience. That being said I also really liked the Shallan and Kaladin interaction/development and they both show sides of themselves I really enjoy seeing when around each other. So at the moment I'm caught between not wanting a love triangle and wanting Shallan/Kaladin to get together (which will likely take a love triangle). Also I wasn't really a huge fan of Shallan/Adolin despite it seemingly making both those characters happy, it just sort of appeared out of nowhere for me.Edit: also as someone fairly firmly in the side of Kaladin's morals, seeing Adolin murder Sadeas at the end coloured his character a bit, I wonder if Sanderson was contrasting Adolin and Kaladin there as Kal only just realized how horrific he finds such acts (killing for the greater good).
