  1. They could be the same one. Brandon got asked around the same time by two different people to tell them about an unknown Shard. To one person he said there's a shard that wants to survive and hide. To another he said there's a shard that doesn't reside on any planet. So up to you whether you feel that those two are probably the same one or not. While Odium seems an unlikely candidate, it is possible he could have an agent bring a Raysium spike to Scadrial for him. But I think there's a lot more circumstantial evidence that Autonomy was the one interfering.
  2. Not being native to Yolen is not necessarily the same thing as not being an original Shardholder. We do not yet know whether world-hopping predates the Shattering.
  3. Yeah LOL I had the same thought that MeLaan is not going to be Paalm. I was like "Given TenSoon already pulled this trick, if there's one person who's not going to be Paalm, it's MeLaan." Had a brief moment when I suspected Marasi might have been replaced, (and was quite relieved when she authenticated fine with Wax!) but I have to say the governor already having been replaced caught me by surprise, as I didn't think Paalm would want to replace someone who was already ineffective and corrupt.
  4. Yep, as you said, Brandon has implied that Odium didn't cause the Earthquake. Quote follows:
  5. I'll have to check SoS but I recalled that Wax thought she was doing this. I might misremember though, it's easy to do!
  6. Well that makes perfect sense too. I generally don't second-guess any of Brandon's choices, as I've yet to read one of his stories I didn't enjoy, but I can understand exactly why you'd feel that way, I've had it with videogame releases.
  7. No that makes perfect sense and aligns well with what we've heard in-world about Adonalsium through The Letters in tWoK and WoR. I'm not sure I necessarily agree that the Intents that were seperated out into Shards are unrelated to Adonalsium being the power of creation, or to be technical, are "accidental" to that. (We don't actually know what sort of relationship Adonalsium had to godhood directly, so I won't speculate on that at this time) I would say a lot of them seem necessary to helping a person, or indeed, a people, grow. Things like Devotion Preservation, Honour, Autonomy, Endowment, and Cultivation are all straightforward aspects of that. And Odium, Dominion and Ruin might not immediately seem relevant, but if you consider that sometimes you have to show a child you are angry or disappointed for them to understand the consequences of their mistakes, Odium seems like it would make sense if brought into the context of the other intents. Likewise, Ruin has its place in that all things must end- a good parent will make their child leave home, they might throw out a child's possession if it has become a danger to them, they will teach their child how to deal with death and decay, and embrace the philosophy that all things have a time and an end. Finally, arguably Dominion also has its place, in that sometimes it is a good thing to submit to authority, and sometimes for practical reasons, someone has to be the leader. I would argue this is another Shard that has suffered by being removed from its context. I feel like ultimately, the same things that make a good parent would make a good theistic God- and if Adonalsium is supposed to be the power of a God, it's not accidental that all of these intents are things that, in context, would be parental virtues.
  8. Sweet. Wax is metaphorically Harmony's champion at the very least, however. I do love that Kandra framing of him as Harmony's Ruin though, that was an excellent character beat.
  9. The specific phraseology was one we have "seen", I believe, which excludes space shard and survival shard. I agree Autonomy is our leading candidate on the available evidence.
  10. Have you considered buying an English copy? You get along pretty well in English, so it might be interesting to read it untranslated? Brandon's on tour atm, he likely has very little time for revising and writing, and if he does, it's simply not going onto the website progress bars just yet. As for not liking Mistborn, there's no rule that says that you have to like every Cosmere book, but keep in mind that the Mistborn arc plays a pretty large role in the Cosmere story, and you may miss out on a very significant part of it if you don't read them. *shrug*
  11. It is a good point though- if they've been spiked to lose something as well as to gain something, that might explain how they have such a dramatic effect from just one implanted spike. And if you bound the replacement attribute to the same point as the stolen one, you could potentially put it in a normally-lethal place by driving the stealing spike and the replacement spike through at the same time. Viola, instant Howler with no evidence you've spiked away any abilities. That said, if Paalm did it that way, she didn't use all of her Metallic Arts victims, as we've seen the corpse of the Steelrunner in SoS, so it's not the strongest of theories, unless they were spiked to lose some of their Humanity rather than to lose an allomantic or feruchemical power, or unless Paalm left the Steelrunner's corpse for some reason.
  12. It's always possible it's a Splinter or other agent of Autonomy coming through for some covert action.
  13. I agree, Autonomy is my preferred candidate for Trell by far. I'm just acknowledging that unlike any of the others, there is arguably some circumstantial evidence for Odium.
  14. I've heard elsewhere it's in the break between SA5 and SA6. Paalm was also coating the spikes in blood for hemalurgical effect, (she seems to have a suspiciously good knowledge of hemalurgy...) so it's possible that the red flecks are coincidental because of that. An alloy of the two is an interesting idea though!
  15. Oh man, how did I end up in such an old thread... apologies for the necro lol
  16. You say excitement of SoS, I say the extra days waiting for Gollancz to release it while you all read it hehe. And Brandon is probably busy doing things rather than updating the progress bar. We all know he doesn't slack.
  17. Minor Mistborn: Final Empire spoilers: On that front... non-plot SoS spoiler: And the background for those who want it, in spoilers JUST IN CASE
  18. I imagine there's some truth to that, (in that he can probably choose to act in cases where it violates neither of his intents, or try to trade them off equally if that's actually possible) but I highly doubt Ruin would be happy causing emotional turmoil. Ruin wants death of sentient beings, their constructions, and concrete moves toward entropy.
  19. He needed to get more youth out of burning metalminds as he aged further and further beyond his normal lifespan. Eventually, regardless of how compounding works, he would reach a point where either his ability to source Atium, the speed at which he could burn feruchemical Youth, or his ability to store youth would run out. Also, it's worth remembering, TLR was the only one who know about compounding at the time, so he may not have thought to put some of his burned youth into new metalminds to compound even faster. That may be an innovation on new!Scadrial due to increased knowledge of Feruchemy, and due to Twinborns. Yeah, WoB are rather vague on that too. I'll definitely accept it's possible I'm confused about this. I had thought that the amount of feruchemical storage in a burnmind (metalmind created to be compounded) would determine the length you could burn the compounded power, and that allomancy would determine the "rate of flow" for the power. So if your metalmind was half empty, you'd eventually fall back to regular allomancy before completely burning the burnmind. If it doesn't work like that, burnminds are ridiculously easy to create and there would be little downside to compounders of affordable metals making huge amounts of them with no up-front investment. I should look into whether the books and/or existing WoBs clarify this at all, but from how careful Brandon is in designing his magic systems, I expect there's some reasonable limits to compounding as otherwise the economics of being a compounder mean you'd rarely have an incentive to tap metalminds at all, unless you weren't wealthy and your metal was valuable.
  20. I agree with you that it's possible that a champion is a common thing to all shards. That would put Tensoon's comments about Wax being Harmony's "Ruin" in an interesting light- Wax is specifically Ruin's champion, not Harmony's. I personally think Autonomy was interfering on his own, but keep in mind that the two intents are not at all incompatible. In fact, as long as Odium makes no move to interfere directly with Autonomy, and limits his manipulation to come short of slavery or controlling people as much as possible, then he'll be able to stay perfectly on-side with Autonomy. Especially if Odium's goal is to Splinter all other shards, and Autonomy's is to Splinter the ones he sees as meddlers.... well, then their goals align up to a certain point, and Autonomy just needs to have a double-cross ready for Odium later on. It's entirely possible that Autonomy has a beef with most other shards, seeing them as too paternalistic, or enslaving others, but sees Harmony as the biggest problem, as he is two shards at once. This would not necessarily require any overt manipulation from Odium, although I would probably agree that they may have worked together in the past, given that two shards that directly opposed their intents now lie Splintered.
  21. Civis- what do you mean be "accidents", precisely? Brandon has previously called Adonalsium the "power of creation", so you're certainly thinking along the right lines. There's also recurring in-world mention of the God Beyond, which may or may not be related to a quote from Brandon confirming that there is a force that opposed Adonalsium. There's certainly some room for this, especially as there's WoB that even long-time Shards can resist their Intent. So a pleasant but slightly jealous person holding Odium would eventually turn into a very hateful person, with their prime focus on their jealousies where the personality of the shard and its Intent are most in agreement. Wheras a domineering person, which presumably Rayse was, picking up the same shard would instead focus that hatred on seeing everyone else as lesser, and trying to rule them all as a God-despot, while killing the minds of the opposing shards and Shattering what they hold.
  22. You should probably just spoiler tag the whole topic for SoS to be honest. And yeah, Chaos was the one who reported that "Trell" is a known shard, which limits the candidates to Endowment, Cultivation, Odium(/Rayse), or Autonomy(/Bavadin).
  23. We have WoB that non-lethal hemalurgy is possible, I'll quickly see if it's archived... Yep, at this link, you want question #16: Odium not being completely evil, of course, doesn't prevent him from being our SA antagonist. I suspect he's evil enough to get by. Now, if you want a more complicated antogonist, if "Trell" is Autonomy... As for Radiant perks... we actually have no WoB on whether Knights Radiant are exclusively of Honour or whether they're mixed between Honour and Cultivation, so I wouldn't go too far in assuming that the nature of radiant perks is related to a two-shard reaction. (The closest WoB on this I could find follows: (#112 at the link)) Likewise, on the other hand, Feruchemy is described in-world as being balanced between Preservation and Ruin. So if these combinatorial perks are actually about the interaction of investiture from multiple Shards and multiple magic systems at the same time... then that implies that a mixed investiture system interacting with a pure investiture system could also have the same effect.
  24. A lot of the shards are closer to ideologies than end-goals. Arguably Preservation, Ruin and Odium are all pragmatic. But Intents like Dominion, Autonomy, Honour... those are definitely the "journey before destination" types who might care more about how things are done than what you're doing. It's like Adonalsium is holding one very unorganised election, and there are sixteen active political parties.
