  1. Don't you think if it was as simple as No Parshguys=No Desolation, it would have been done already? That KR/Heralds would have just slaughtered them and be done with the issue? We, unlike Jasnah, know that there was indeed an Almighty. She can be wrong again. Don't disregard the fact that hasn't been a Desolation in 4500 years, ever since the Heralds and KR left.
  2. Forget them, I ship Jasadin!
  3. Jasnah based her conclusion on folklore and very old writings that can't be reliable sources (language and phrasing so different than today's that can mislead the reader etc). In my opinion she doesn't have enough prove, only suspicions. Why should they make such decision as to start a genocide? Why do you think Parshmen/Parshendi are about to turn into Voidbringers, what has changed? We've seen from Ehonai's chapters that Parshendi aren't unreasonable monsters. Perhaps, as I said, something changes them and this is what must be stopped. Otherwise you can claim that we should start killing people just because they have the potential of becoming murderers.
  4. Well, to be fair Alethi have already started some sort of genocide considering the war. So, I presume you mean the Parshmen? Anyway, they need solid prove that Parshendi/Parshmen are Voidbringers, not just something in children's bedstories. Even if they have the potential of becoming Voidbringers, that is still not a reason to start a genocide, Jasnah can find what triggers such transformation and simply deal with that. Correct me if I'm wrong, but there hasn't been a Desolation ever since the Heralds forsake their Oathpact and Parshmen have been a peaceful part of the society for centuries. No reason to start slaughtering them now.
  5. I don't think it's possible to answer such a question. The spheres will be useless here since we have no stormlight for them to hold. Also, spheres are very common on Roshar which means diamonds there must be cheap. It's impossible to measure how common they are and then compare them to something as common on Earth. Even if we know how many karats a sphere is worth, doesn't mean it's as valuable as the same karat gem here. It's possible to measure the value in a more accurate way: what can someone buy with a broam on Roshar for example. This is not the same as saying how many dollars a broam is worth, because our world are very different, just remember how Jasnah hadn't seen a strawberry jam. So strawberries are much more rear than diamonds on Roshar, therefor more valuable than in our world. We can sell them strawberries for diamonds
  6. I think the Aes Sedai truths are Cryptics thing and that's what Pattern meant when he said 'true lies'. Some intentional misleading statements that are not straight forward lies, yet aren't completely true as well. I think Shallan's conversation with Yalb and Pattern's reaction support this: Edit: So, I've been thinking about it more. I believe it's on the right track. Think how Syl was attracted to Kaladin because his actions were honorable. The same way the true lies Shallan said make her perfect match for a cryptic: she told Jasnah she wanted to study which wasn't nor a lie, neither the whole truth; she said her father was dead, but hid the fact that she killed him - another true lie imo.
  7. Which would make her non-changing age the curse. Still fits.
  8. I think Lift asked of the Nightwatcher to stay ten years old. And her 'awesomeness' is actually the curse. Or even if it's the boon, then Lift is convincing herself that being cursed to stay as old as she was is actually cool since all other ages are unlucky. Perhaps stormlight is the raw energy of the Cognitive realm? I've read speculations that Highstorms originate from there. I think being part of the Cognitive realm is the curse, because I don't see how she could have asked for this to be the boon. She's only ten, I doubt she has any idea what it means. What do you think?
  9. Or may be the sky is clearing behind Kaladin?
  10. Yet, there is the possibility it didn't happen that way. And even if it did, that still doesn't prove the said theory. Besides there must have been a reason to call Jezere Stormfather, though may be his spren (assuming he had one) had something to do with it. And don't think The Broken One refers to Adonalsium basically because I don't think most reader are Cosmic aware and The Stormlight Archive wouldn't really be series on Roshar if Brandon went in this direction.
  11. Is anyone else reminded of Tsunade (from Naruto) while looking at Kaladin fist-breaking the ground?
  12. Were there Highstorms before the Oathpact was broken? There could be a connection.
  13. I am not convinced on this Stormfather=spren theory. First, Syl didn't really say she came from the Cognitive realm or that the Stormfather was there. Even if he was in Shadesmar, that doesn't prove he is spren since human can access Shadesmar after certain circumstances are met. Second, nowhere has it been stated that Splintered Shard can be picked up by a non-human. All Shardholders we know of were in fact human.
  14. Time could be different in the place Heralds are between Desolations. I don't remember the actual quote, but in one of Dalinar's visions Honor said the Everstorm was a thousand days away. It's unlikely that Honor died during the events of WoK, so probably what was 1000 days to Honor is not 1000 days in Roshar. Same with the Heralds. What I really don't understand is why there is no Desolation for 4500 years since the Heralds broke their Oathpact. Is there a connection?
  15. Using anyone as bait when they are no expected to survive is a problem. Breaking the promise is indeed minor as he couldn't have predicted everything, but intentionally sending his subordinates to death is unforgivable. Amaram definitely knew such thing were happening and chose to look away. Just because he didn't give the orders himself doesn't make him innocent. I think we already know more than enough to judge his character. Amaram may be no worse than Sadeas or most lighteyes army commanders, but he is not better either.
  16. Guys, you seem to forget that Amaram didn't just sell Kaladin as a slave and killed his comrades. Amaram also used young and untrained boys like Tien on the battlefield as bait. He may say all this is perfectly justified and claim to be honorable, but to me hе is a hypocrite and a terrible person. It would be interesting to see what will happen when Amaram and Kaladin meet. I don't believe neither of them will share the story with Dalinar. Or Amaram will come up with lies and Kaladin won't trust Dalinar with the truth or simply will think there is no point in telling. Though I hope Dalinar pushes the topic and somehow finally gains Kaladin's trust.
  17. It would be too obvious for the new guy to be a spy or sabotage anything.
  18. He doesn't! Just think about how he got Tien killed by using him as bait on the battlefield. Amaram may tend to justify such action in the name of the greater good, but he is just a terrible man.
  19. Well, I guess it depends on what you think counts as 'just before' Desolation. A minute? A month? 62 days? @Morevna: the Honorblade vanishing is in the Prologue of WoK where it's stated that one missing sword in the circle of Blades indicates only one Herald has died.
  20. Possible. That would explain why they consider warriors to be of the lowest rank since they never needed them. May be there is something more than geographic location that protects them from highstorms and it provides protection from Desolations as well, something stopping the Voidbringers from entering Shinovar. It could have something to do with why stone is sacred to them. Edit: I think this quote by Szeth supports your theory: Looks like his elders (probably?) didn't believe in Voidbringers which indicates Shinovar never faced them.
  21. He's definitely not cool enough to be Odium's champion I vote for him to perish in flames, I don't buy the 'he meant well while screwing Kaladin and killing his soldiers'. What Amaram did was selfish and unjustified. Obviously Kaladin is the better warrior since he saved Amaram, so the-more-skilled-fighter-deserves-the-Blade excuse is nonsense. If you think about it, most bad guys justify their actions with the so called greater good. And remember how Amaram got Tien and the other young boys to be killed by using them as bait.
