  1. Also, the intent when Awakening is very important - the part which Vivienna and Vasher liken to 'moving a muscle'. This visualisation could be the cognitive aspect. As to the spiritual aspect, it doesn't seem you're doing too well there, eh? Maybe that could have something to do with SpiritWeb (sDNA)?
  2. Even breath would need a smaller unit, because despite coming pre-quantified in the amount of breaths, people can have a 'strong' breath or a 'weak' breath - with the grandest example being Divine Breaths. I would definitely measure by volume, however, which may be slightly confusing dealing with different pressures... But what else? Metal's easy, but stormlight is a kind of energetic gas (for the sake of simplification). We need an Elsecaller on this...
  3. Vin also constantly notes Elend's inherent strength due to being a Lerasium-Mistborn. In the scene where the two fight an Inquisitor, Elend uses this strength to eventually defeat him in a steel-pushing contest.
  4. Sorry for the long wait, Tempus. I've actually been thinking long and hard on what you mean. The only thing I could think of is this (and please bear with, this won't be fully formulated, and if I do refine this properly, I'll post it later). I'll refer to allomancy with this. Within allomancy, we know that each metal is paired - one Pulls, and one Pushes - as is the case of external mental metals, where we have Brass is the Pushing metal that Soothes emotions. If we take these predefined concepts of what is a Pushing and what is a Pulling metal, we find that Steel would be Pushing. By this logic, we will assume that Pushing metals affect one internally (your perception of an attribute) while Pulling metals affect one externally (your attribute on the world). Now if we assume these more or less groundless deductions are correct, we can take this concept of Pushing and Pulling to the other metals. In Brass and Zinc, Pushing and Pulling metals respectively - where Brass Feruchemically stores warmth and Zinc stores 'speed of thought'. Taking my new concepts into play, Brass would be the metal that affects one internally , and Zinc affects one externally. Brass we can understand, as by storing warmth - or rather your perception of what is warm (from the Ars Arcaneum, "storing makes you cool") is definitely what would fall into what we understand to be 'internal'. However, it is hard to understand how 'speed of thought' would be an external attribute. I bring back the previous definition however "Pulling metals affect one externally (your attribute on the world)". The speed of your own thoughts relative to yourself would definitely be at a standstill, but in relation to the rest of the world, there would definitely be a change. I would say this would be an affirmation on that half of the theory. Unlike Steel and Iron, where weight is the same attribute that's stored but in a different manner, Brass and Zinc store something far less similar. In may be possible that it is something to do with one being a relationship between Brass relating to the peripheral nervous system while Zinc relates to the central nervous system. If I ever do a full theory, I'll post of it in full. Hope that wasn't too much of a mouthful, and apologies for the lack of structure...
  5. Do the metals have to be pure? What is it about metals in specific that allows you to control them? Why is there a loss in mass? Questions like these I often find lead to even more exciting and in-depth ideas about the developed system. For example, maybe pure metals have to be used but then plot twist Sanderson style to show that people clever and skilled enough can encourage metals out of a molecule via some foreshadowed process. Maybe it's to do with the delocalised electrons inherent in metals that allow this control, which might lead to other things, like magnetic stimulation or such. Sorry if I'm posting this a bit late, just thought I'd contribute.
  6. I'd imagine such implementation would be fairly well used in the usage of second-rate materials. Not so sure about the entrepreneurial approach that you mentioned for the reasons as everyone else however...
  7. Sorry, you're right: Steel stores whatever countermeasure there is to 'internal weight', making you seem heavier, while tapping makes you seem very light, and therefore able to move faster. Just bad wording on my part. Will update OP.
  8. It was basically said that the funding from Mr. Suit was what kept Miles and his horrible expensive compounding going
  9. Soo... this is my first theory, so please go easy on me. Steel Feruchemy was the first thing to strike me as odd when reading the Mistborn books. Whereas all the other metals accounted for some quantifiable, scientific attribute, the idea of being able to speed was very off. Speed - which is the result of inertia, wind resistance, force to accelerate, etc,. It also struck be as odd that while Steel and Iron are partners in Allomancy (Push and Pull), Iron and Steel are two fundamentally different ideas, being that of weight and speed. This is where my theory starts. Reading Alloy of Law for the first few times, I began to realise that certain Feruchemical effects are insulated to the user, as when Wax comments that his own body is strengthened in some way when he taps Iron as his own body doesn't collapse under his own weight (and he is able to easily lift his arms above his head). The inverse becomes true as well, as he also comments that when storing his Ironminds that he couldn't store too much lest his own clothes begin to weigh him down. Here's the important part: This basically means that whatever weight Wax becomes, his own idea of his weight in relation to himself is the same. It is merely the effect on his environment that shows how much he weighs. So when Wax becomes lighter, everything seems heavier, and vice versa. This is where the idea of Steel minds came from. Essentially, it does what iron minds do in reverse - storing it makes you seem heavier to yourself, while tapping it makes you feel as light as a feather. It is easy to equate this to speed. So essentially, iron minds store the 'external weight' - your weight in relation to everyone else, whilst steel minds store a kind of 'internal weight' - your weight in relation to yourself (except in reverse, where storing makes you seem heavier). (this came from me wondering why Wax never stored his iron minds to make himself faster, till I realised his speed was the same no matter how much he stored or tapped) EDIT: As Skaa points out, my underlined summary was a bit misleading. Updated (though it doesn't sound as crisp now ). From Brandon's viewpoint, I suppose the added benefits while tapping should always be more than that of storing, which is why it's that way (otherwise people will just be constantly storing). From a realmatic viewpoint... I suppose it takes more energy to make you seem lighter than it is to feel heavier (think lethargy).
  10. Atium allows future-sight because seeing the future disturbs causality - ruining it. It allows one to break causality. If that's what we're talking about...
  11. No idea if this discussion is continuing or not... but if it is: Elend was able to Push a Steel Inquisitor away because it was unprepared for strength of a Lerasium-Mistborn (view the beginning of The Hero Of Ages). Conversely, weight has always been a very important factor (Wax using his Ironminds to his advantage). Strength is important, but so is weight. I would agree with the idea that weight allows one to properly assert their strength (grounding themselves) but in a where something is heavier than something else, most of the time it is negligible.
  12. I would imagine it would cleanse it so long as it's burning (so while possible, isn't useful)
  13. I must be more an Elsecaller than I thought, because this fascinates me to no end. Fanfiction time. For my own contribution however, the Kandra can choose to create organs or not. If a Kandra wanted to, they could create fully working reproductive organs (as TenSoon melted his genitals away because he found no need of them). And as Kandra use their own body mass to reproduce these organs, they indeed could create half-Kandra hybrids. If the chromosomes are compatible, that is. However, understanding that the Kandra originated from the original Feruchemists, then yes, I would say the DNA is indeed compatible. There's my stance on it, I invite anyone to criticise my knowledge or logic (as I often overlook the small things).
  14. Life before death, strength before weakness, journey before destination.

  15. Elhokar also talked about the Darkness moving as well though, much like Yasnah's Spren moved like in the prologue. I always assumed it was just the Spren interested in the politics of men as so many of their own numbers have moved back to join with them as surge binders.
  16. It's hard to see the conflict with 'protecting those as long as it's right'. The subjective viewpoint of what is right can be given many liberties.
  17. With the attribute of being 'brave', I thought the Dustbringer's oath would be something like: "I will do what must be done".
  18. Windspren/Honourspren Creativityspren/Liespren(Cryptics) Logicspren/(Yasnah's Spren?) Angerspren/Stormspren Just an idea.
  19. I feel it important to note that Shardplate seems to be more or less identical, in contrast to Shardblades. I feel that's due to the spren taking liberties to give the blade a more personalised feel, whereas the plate itself isn't so much personalised, giving implication towards disproving the spren theory (at least the sentient-spren theory). I'm actually liking the OP's idea, thinking of them akin to what someone else mentioned, that the windspren are an honour spren's sprensquire
  20. We've been made to assume however that the AonDor (without a giant Elantris-sized Aon Rao amplifier) is fairly impotent however. Also, Preservation's investiture is somehow stored within the metals used to power allomancy, while AonDor is supposedly an ever permeating force. Would that force be existent on other Shardworlds too? As by the name of the Shard that gives the power - Devotion - it doesn't seem likely, as it would most likely want to 'devote' it's power to one world. Just food for thought (don't hurt me I'm new)
  21. Feruchemy, because it's awesome. A little bit annoyed at copper however, as it seems to rely on the strength of your short term memory, and my short term memory is incredibly weak compared to my surprisingly strong long term memory. So it becomes not the most useful metal for me
  22. Many spren could see his killing as that of 'justice' or 'bravery', easily making Adolin applicable to the Skybreakers or Dustbringers
  23. Woah, good catch. Though we need to check if any other shardblades form in a similar way... if not, awesome!!!
  24. She's mental because she killed three men in cold blood, not because she's a strong woman. From the way she spoke of the event hints strongly at some form of trauma got to do with men abusing her, and now that I think of it, Navani's own recollection of Jasnah being full of questions one day and cold and withdrawn the next fits completely. While I feel the theory itself presents strong merit and evidence, I just feel that it would be too niche, and that I agree that if anything the Knight must have experienced an extreme event of a kind that would help him bond a spren, similar to Allomancy's Snapping. It would be kind of cool to realise that these noble Knights are simply broken souls trying to do what's right however, it has a poetic sadness to it.
  25. I've always figured Adolin for a Dustbringer with him dealing with Sadeas in that way, so that would only leave a Willshaper untaken, so I would concur.
