Mid-Range Game 15: The Dula Revolution
Elbereth replied to Mckeedee123's topic in Sanderson Elimination
You're thinking of the question about whether we can recall and elect into the same spot when there's five, Aman. Which we can't. If there are four or three, we can recall and elect at the same time. Elenion is correct.- 727 replies

Mid-Range Game 15: The Dula Revolution
Elbereth replied to Mckeedee123's topic in Sanderson Elimination
...What the heck, everyone. No, that'd just leave it a tie. Five people on the senate, you (if you're Jeskeri) kill one and recall one, and then you have a majority when Seonid is lynched. So if you're Jeskeri, you do need someone recalled. I'm not particularly convinced of that anymore, though. And I don't know what's going on at this point, so I'm going to refrain from a recall vote on anyone. One thing I do think is that you and Elenion probably aren't teammates.- 727 replies

Mid-Range Game 15: The Dula Revolution
Elbereth replied to Mckeedee123's topic in Sanderson Elimination
1. Exhibit A: Unlike other languages, English does not distinguish between the exclusive and inclusive 'we'. This is a shining example of the exclusive we, as obviously the knowledge I have directly contradicts that that is the best course of action to take. 2. I have no idea why he would've protected me. Although if there isn't a Derethi on the Senate, I could see him protecting me in case I was attacked by the Jeskeri, thus partly clearing him (or at least garnering him a bunch of trust - or if he died, giving me a big pile of suspicion). Which then backfired when the Derethi attacked me instead. And Mek doesn't seem to have predicted exactly how the Senate would work. 3. I still object (there is no reason I wouldn't have placed an order, as far as I remember), but there's not much more I can say on that point to convince you that I was around and I would have placed the order. Because if I were Derethi I'd just be lying about it. So that's pointless. 4. So you're basing this logic off of something an outed eliminator said as well. Not only that, but outed!Maill. Really? If I were around at the time (and I obviously was) I would have told him not to say he protected me. Because I know where that's going to lead. Here. >> 5. Sure, I might have gone for the alliance (outing Cloud would've cleared me more, plus I can't think how an alliance would work either, so I think I'd have gone for telling the truth, but I'm not sure). And why would they have broken that deliberately, immediately? One, my staying alive lets them find more Derethi potentially, by looking at interactions. And two, my being alive means to the Derethi that the alliance is still in place, and thus they won't be going as much after the Jeskeri. If they know for a fact that I'm Derethi, why would they kill me absolutely first? 6. Oh, hm. Sorry, bad logic there. Got lost in the hypotheticals. I was thinking of the Derethi pretending to be Jeskeri and attacking me in order to imply that if we lynch Seonid the Jeskeri will win. But then my alignment would be revealed to be innocent, so that wouldn't work. Never mind. 7. Okay. Just making sure that you didn't have any evidence against Elenion that's not you-specific (and based on false assumptions....>>). I thought you might bring that up... >> I object to that analogy and think the situation's entirely different, but bah. Fine. EDIT: Conspiracy theory which I don't think I actually believe: You're Jeskeri, as is Bard. Recalling Elenion (and if you have a Landlord that's easy enough even with just your vote) and killing someone else (maybe me?) tonight makes you have majority in the Senate. Killing Seonid, if he is actually the last one, wins you the game. (If this is the case, congrats. You've done very well as an eliminator this game. Enough so that I'm only about 40% certain you are anymore.) EDIT 2: No, I know it doesn't. You're fine.- 727 replies

All the upvotes for that. My general advice would be if you have time, going and reading a past game. That should give a pretty good idea of how games go. (Maybe QF14? That'll also give you some clue about secret role games and Joe's games specifically. Plus it's relatively short and quite fun. Any game will do, though.) That takes a while, though, so other than that - ask questions when you don't understand some term or argument. Don't be afraid to accuse people of being evil. Trust, but be paranoid about that trust. And, of course, have fun! That's the most important thing anyway.

Hm, not sure I'll get through all of these before I die... You'll just have to let me live a little longer. Sandhya and Thanata: The Rest of the Story, Pt. 6 When they reached the scene, everything was still quiet. Sandhya was sure someone had seen the body by now, but no one had dared come anywhere near an Inquisitor, even one that looked dead. Sandhya didn’t blame them. She didn’t want to go near it either, but Thanata’s voice gave her strength. It’s dead, I promise. A note of satisfaction entered Thanata’s voice. That which killed me has been killed in turn. Sandhya didn’t know how she felt about that. All her life - well, perhaps it had only been a week (how could it have been only a week?), but nothing before that time in her life mattered anymore - she had focused on finding the Inquisitor and killing him. That was the only thing that was important, and now he was dead. “What do I do now?” she asked herself. She couldn’t go back to before, back to balls and suitors and pretty meaningless calligraphy. Though Sandhya expected no answer, Thanata said softly, The Inquisitor still has servants doing its work. And- well, find the tablet first. “The tablet?” There’s a wooden tablet somewhere around here. You’ll want to read it. She found it fairly quickly under Thanata’s instruction; it was lying on the ground not far from the Inquisitor, close enough to have spots of blood (still wet) on it. She picked it up with her fingers, trying not to touch any of the blood, and read the words inscribed on it. “Tram.” Yes, Thanata agreed. Bring it to Elend Venture. He’ll know how to do things properly. Sandhya nodded. Then, she noticed a few more words at the bottom, half-covered in blood. “Ruin shall reign,” she mused. “How poetic. Perhaps when the Lord Ruler died, the Inquisitors simply wanted everything else to die along with him.” It’s not poetry, Thanata said, sounding troubled. Ruin is… something. A being, I think. With time he can force others to his will and they become his servants. The Inquisitors were especially vulnerable, from what I understand. Something about the way they came to be… what they are. But the important thing, Sandy, is that the Inquisitor was only one of Ruin’s servants, and I don’t know how many more there are. Dozens, hundreds probably. Several within Luthadel itself, infiltrating each house… Tram was probably the one chosen to infiltrate Venture. Sandhya went cold with anger at the thought of someone, some thing, taking over Venture itself. And he’d come close, too. With Ri and Ranel dead, Sandhya was the only one left to oppose him. You wondered what you could do? That, Sandhya. You can find every follower of Ruin and destroy them. Even if it takes killing half of Luthadel first. Sandhya nodded grimly. "Whatever it takes."

Mid-Range Game 15: The Dula Revolution
Elbereth replied to Mckeedee123's topic in Sanderson Elimination
...Okay, now you're tunnelling. >> I won't try to split up the quote, so numbering it is. *facepalm* You're essentially basing the fact that a Derethi has to be a Senator on the fact that they had a Duelist, and that Duelist had to be useful immediately, which I don't necessarily think is the case (also, predicting distribution is uncertain at best). I was distracted by being Spiked in LG23? Really? You seem to think I can't do both effectively. Turnovers are two hours apart, and more than that, there's an hour break between turnovers in LG23 in which nothing happened. Why wouldn't I check MR15 at that point? Because that's what I do. (I'd ask one of my Spiked friends to verify that for me, but I have a feeling they're not particularly interested in revealing themselves. ) There's absolutely no reason why I wouldn't have realized a kill wasn't going in. That is all the evidence you give for me being Spiked. And I've refuted your earlier points as much as I could. So... I'm really not seeing where you're getting this rock-hard certainty that I'm evil. Okay, so you think that Cloud is Jeskeri, yes? Potentially, anyway. If that's the case, why the storms would the Jeskeri have attacked me, right after I saved one of their members? That'd just be dumb. Even if they didn't want an alliance, there was no reason to tear down the pretense of one. You're ignoring the possibility that the Derethi will attack me because that'll mean Seonid survives tomorrow's lynch. Why do you think Elenion is Jeskeri? (Other than just his being a Senator with the assumption that I'm Derethi?) Maybe I missed that. Should be around a fair amount today. Maybe even enough to convince you to stop storming tunneling.- 727 replies

Hm. I counted the days wong. Turns out that I'll be inactive for the first cycle (although I'd be on that first night so I'd get my role and be able to post something) and most of the next day as well. Which could still be fine, but it occurs to me that that's just about the opposite of Maill's schedule (I come back on the 31st and he's completely gone on the 1st, I think). So I'm wondering if I could be arranged to just be Maill's pinchhitter? Might be better than just completely missing the first cycle and a half.

Meh, okay. If that's your intention. Ah, but if you use that view you'll make others dread your references rather than be excited by them! You can spin it however you so wish. Truth is fun to play with.

Implying, maybe. Alleging is a bit too strong. (Semantics, yes, I know, hush.) But you're also implying that you hold those views yourself. Which I sincerely hope is not the case. And reference away. I shall be very happy to watch for those. Should be fun. I'd put in references myself, but I don't think I'll be able to do my RP playstyle this game.

Signing up as Liadan, I think. Haven't had a secret rules game since... QF15? I think that was the last one. Cannot wait. May pick a playstyle for this game, may not. We'll see. Also, I'll be gone (as in completely gone, not just 'travelling but talking the same amount as usual because I like talking ' gone) for a full cycle somewhere in the middle of the game. Sorry. EDIT: Possibly more like a cycle and a half. Depends on when the cycles fall.

...Well, I wasn't really expecting you to talk as a result. Talking's not really your thing. And thanks. PAFO. Really glad I wrote most of these ahead of time, because I am in no state to be writing right now... Sandhya and Thanata: The Rest of the Story, Pt. 5 Sandhya killed again the next night. Thanata knew what had to be done better than she did, after all. And it was necessary, she told herself. It was necessary… The fourth night after the first death, she awoke in the early hours of the morning, disoriented and confused. Sandhya! Sandhya! Thanata called urgently. Wake up! “What?” she asked groggily. The Inquisitor is dead. That woke her up, all right. “What? How?” I don’t know. I only saw the end of it. But he managed to convert someone to his cause before he died. Go, quickly. There’s something that you need to get before they do. “They?” Sandhya asked, dressing quickly. The Inquisitor has servants. I don’t know how many. But they’re within each of the factions, infiltrating and manipulating. Be careful, Sandy. Don’t die on me. She grabbed her cloak and closed the door to her bedroom quietly behind her. No need to wake the rest of the house, after all. “Don’t worry, Thana. I won’t.”

I didn't mention it by name because I was replying to Elenion (I think? one of the new players, anyway), so I just rephrased it so I didn't have to explain the term. Also: I just found out that tonight I might be finally observing for my internship. So don't expect anything from me for the next 24 hours unless I'm rather unlucky and it's cloudy. Well, fine then, if that's how you want to do it. Elbereth it is. Tell me you'll talk some today other than lynching me, though? I mean, I know I'm evil and don't want people to discuss and all, but a dead thread is just sad, no matter what side you're on. And I need people to talk between my RP posts, after all! (That's probably what I'm enjoying most about being outed, actually. Didn't think I'd be able to post all these until after the game ended. This works much better. )

Oh, look. I'm not dead. Fancy that. Sandhya and Thanata: The Rest of the Story, Pt. 4 The Ballroom, cont. Note: I am aware that this contradicts Rae's death writeup. I also don't really care, because I like this version better. The door opened moments later, and Ri emerged cautiously. After a few moments of exchanging apologies and pleasantries (and finally getting the name she had wanted), Thanata spoke in Sandhya’s mind again. She wants the Houses to ally. Sandhya started shaking her head, knowing what was coming in her gut and dreading it. Informants don’t like war. They’re too concerned about dying themselves. Rightly, it seemed. Sandhya turned to look out at the mist, though Thanata showed no trace. “Please…” she whispered. She cannot be allowed to live. Sandhya closed her eyes, warring with herself for a moment. She could not kill this innocent young girl, who couldn’t even tell that she was mourning rather than lovesick. But she had to. The Inquisitor was using her as a tool for its own ends. It had to be stopped. “I’m sorry,” she said to Ri, choking out the words, as she gently touched the hilt of her knife. Then she opened her eyes and pulled the knife from her dress, striking Ri’s unprotected neck in one fluid movement. She watched dully as Ri’s face faded from confusion into death. At Thanata’s urging, she heaved the body over the balcony - it fell with a wet thud onto the ground below - and walked back inside to mingle and smile hollowly at the beautifully clad figures dancing or conversing. She sat at the same table where she’d begun the night, before any of this had happened. Her pens and paper were still laid out there. And with a heavy heart, she picked up the pen and began slowly tracing out an R.

Sandhya and Thanata: The Rest of the Story, Pt. 3 The Ballroom Sandhya got up abruptly, not caring at the stares she was attracting, and walked out onto the nearest balcony, closing the doors firmly behind her and cutting out the noise and light of the ballroom. “How is this helping me find the Inquisitor?” she asked aloud to the mists in frustration. “All I’m doing is listening to petty squabbling and nothing of use! No one knows anything about the inquisitor killing people in our midst, not even this so-called informant who can’t even see that I’m not a lovesick fool looking for her crush’s name.” She sighed, staring out at the shifting mists. “We have to ally together,” she said decisively. “There’s no way we can find the Inquisitor if we’re all working against each other. We’ll just end up killing each other, doing the Inquisitor’s work for it.” She turned to go back inside, but froze and turned slowly back towards the mists. Was that… It was. Hanging before her in the mists was Thanata, just as she had died, the same haunted expression on her face. Sandhya couldn’t speak for a minute. “Thanata?” she said cautiously, as if uncertain that Thanata’s face wouldn’t blow away the moment she spoke. But it didn’t vanish. It simply hung in the mists, staring past her. “What did you see, sister?” Sandhya asked softly. “What did you see that made you so horrified?” Death, Thanata whispered in her mind. Sandhya jumped. “Thanata?” The face in the mists shivered and looked like it was trying to form a body for a minute, then dissolved altogether. “Thanata!” I can’t sustain a body, Thanata said in her mind faintly. I’m sorry, sister. “But you’re here! You’re alive!” Sandhya exclaimed. Not quite. And I don’t know how much time I have to talk to you, so I’ll make this fast. What I saw, as I died, was death. I saw the factions allying together to go after the Inquisitor who killed me and putting aside their own problems. They were all slaughtered mercilessly. “No,” Thanata said. “There has to be some way to defeat the Inquisitor!” I don’t know. Perhaps there is. But I do know that whatever happens, the factions cannot ally. If they do, they die. While they’re fighting each other, the Inquisitor is happy to leave them alone. When they ally, they’re a threat that must be destroyed. You have to do this, Sandy. I can’t do anything but watch, and even then I have a hard time seeing things sometimes, when I’m trying to hold myself together in one piece. I don’t know how much I can help. You have to keep the factions fighting by whatever means necessary. Alone. Sandhya shivered. “Whatever means necessary”, in Thanata’s mind, could mean a lot. She unconsciously touched the knife she’d tucked into her dress, just in case, looking back at the bright ballroom. Just in case.
