I think we would have a competition like last time (with differenct characters), but for every contest there would be a third option for a teamup. That's how I visualize it. It'd also be interesting to have a Shard contest. (Endowment, Leras!Preservation, Vin!Preservation, Ruin, Harmony, Honor, Cultivation, Odium, Survival, and Autonomy, and maybe Kelsier? That's a lot.)

Long Game 15: ...The Shards Themselves...
Elbereth replied to Wyrmhero's topic in Sanderson Elimination
I just realized that in my distraction (I was kind of in Greek class ) I forgot to ask (in rerefence to Shallan's advice): Weren't the Mistborn confirmed to be able to kill in LG15a? Wyrm was just being poetic, I think.- 1686 replies

Long Game 15: ...The Shards Themselves...
Elbereth replied to Wyrmhero's topic in Sanderson Elimination
(emphasis mine)A couple points to clarify: If we're trying to see if the traitors have a Feruchemist, just saying "Don't change votes if you're loyal!" won't work. The traitors just won't change any votes either. What is the point of that? We kind of just saw a coordinated vote shift, maybe, on to Shallan. However, while we could see a coordinated vote shift, it isn't likely to happen, because it can't allow an instant win like last time. EDIT: Ninja'd by like 10 people.- 1686 replies

I actually like starmetal more... But it's your deal. For the Allomancy side of things, here's some possibilities: (I haven't come up with any names except for the first two, sadly) One sided telepathy (can only speak to someone else or can only receive) when connected by metal. If you're a Speaker, you can speak telepathically to anyone else touching a piece of metal that you are also touching. The number of metal things in between does not matter, as long as the two people are connected through a solid line of metal. A Listener can hear anyone else's thoughts through the line, whether or not those other people are Speakers. If you think that's too overpowered, it could be that Listeners can only hear throughts directed at a Listener, instead of every thought on the person's mind. A variation on Soothing/Rioting: This still involves emotional control, but it is divided up differently. One side can only influence positive emotions (love, happiness, etc.), while the other can only influence negative emotions (hate, lust, greed). I never decided whether 'influence' meant they could Riot or Soothe those emotions. (EDIT: Apparently I called these. Enflamers and Afflicters.) Physical speed and mental speed are possible as well. I know they were Feruchemy powers, but they're not in your list, so maybe we could shift them to alternate!Allomancy? The ability to enhance or dehance metal by touch. This would affect metals when they are burned, and also the difficulty of communicating through metal for Speakers/Listeners. The ability to transform one metal into a different one by touch. The larger the metal, the more difficult. The ability to diffuse metal so that no one can touch it/anyone can pass through it. The opposite power would be the ability to pass through metal yourself, but not diffusing the metal. This is kind of like Pushing/Pulling. It's the ability to move any metal, as long as it stays exactly the same distance from you. One power can move metals vertically, one horizontally. This could also be used to move yourself if the piece of metal is big enough, just like Pushing/Pulling. That's all I've found so far. I think I might have a few more somewhere else, but that's most of it. I count 13 (because I haven't thought of an opposite to the transformation power.) Names would be appreciated! EDIT: I found a few more, including a possible opposite to transformation: the ability to sculpt metal into any shape. A weird one that I'm not sure I like is the ability to enhance the senses and/or strength of someone else. Another weird one is the ability to cut metal or to fuse it back together. I think that's all, though I might still have some Feruchemy ideas floating around somewhere. They'll take a while to find, though.

Oooh, interesting! I like it. Empathy sounds pretty much exactly like duralumin/Connection, but the rest are pretty distinct from Brandon's. A few of them very well could be the results of a lerasium or atium alloy, since we haven't seen much of those yet (in particular Presence for duralumin-lerasium/atium, density for iron, allure also for duralumin, and mental stability for zinc). Can you list the mythic metals you researched? Maybe we could fit them together. Somewhere, I have a magic system that is basically Allomancy based on three's. Maybe I could cannibalize some of that... I'll try to find it.

Long Game 15: ...The Shards Themselves...
Elbereth replied to Wyrmhero's topic in Sanderson Elimination
This is a good point. To illustrate: In Mafia games I played in real life, you did not tell anyone your role. Ever. Even if it would benefit your team or even keep you alive, you were not allowed to tell anyone your role. This was probably partly to keep the games a little simpler, since it's a lot harder to keep track of what's going on and who you suspect in real life.- 1686 replies

That's actually kind of hilarious. Thanks for sharing! So it would just be "ego nescio quid accidere". Not all that far off, and as I said, you were understandable.
-
It's the neck up verb thing, I'm pretty sure. I don't know what it's usually called, but it's when you have any verb having to do with the head, and you put an infinitive on the end. I'm not 100% sure it applies, though. I'm not very good at translating into latin. My school only does translating out of Latin, not into. EDIT: That is, you make the second verb an infinitive instead of the normal ending. EDIT 2: Also, accidens does mean happening, but only in the verb form (x was happening to y), not the adjective form. I think that would be a gerund? Props for using sit, though. I had to look it up to make sure you weren't using the wrong form of est.
-
I can understand it. The endings aren't right, but it is totally understandable.
-
It has actually already been made. Earlier today. Also, this thread acquired ninety nine pages in the space of one month. Does no one realize this?

Warning: DO NOT ACCEPT THE COOKIE. At least read Mistborn first, so you can understand the full import of your acceptance. Alternatively, take the cookie and feed it to your least favorite person.

DON'T. Also, does anyone realize that Random Stuff III was started only a month ago and it's already at 99 pages?

Well, I think you're going about this wrong. Rather than trying to transliterate the names we have for the characters into the steel alphabet, realize that they are already transliterated from that same alphabet. Brandon just spelled them in the way that we would pronounce them, more or less. Also, the alphabet has probably changed since the original trilogy, which could very well include adding an x. Alternatively, they might still spell it with a ks (because x is just a shorter way to spell ks, because we use it often enough).

Long Game 15: ...The Shards Themselves...
Elbereth replied to Wyrmhero's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Thanks! Also, I had a thought and a question about this plan, both about Forging. I see three scenarios involving Forging: 1) A Forger Forges someone to be a Hemalurgist. If so: a ) The HI is now guilty- it seems fairly obvious what to do. Tell the thread and make sure you get a kandra confirming your alignment and an elantrian protecting you that night. b ) The HI is still innocent. What do you do then? Do you tell the HI, so he can include it in his count? I can see problems with this (it's a great tactic for Evil!HI to make us think he's still good), but it might be good. I don't know. Ideas? 2) You are a Hemalurgist, and you are Forged to be something else. This is the potential problem. a ) If you were the last loyal Hemalurgist, you definitely do not want to PM the HI that you've been Forged (in case someone good Forged you by accident). b ) But if there was another Hemalurgist left, you would want to PM the HI to make sure the count's updated. I guess that was four scenarios. Sorry. EDIT: I forgot that a), , c) happened.- 1686 replies

Long Game 15: ...The Shards Themselves...
Elbereth replied to Wyrmhero's topic in Sanderson Elimination
So I've been reading this thread every chance I could (which to be fair wasn't very many chances, given that I'm also doing NaNoWriMo and wroking in a play which has opening night tomorrow along with all the normal stuff) since the game started, and I just caught up. First off, thanks for this. It made me laugh. After that post there was a great deal of talk about HI win condition. I never even thought that the HI might turn early. Maybe I'm just a natural optimist? I think a countdown would be a good thing because knowing Deathclutch is evil would be useful, if only to stop him misdirecting us. Some people (including me) will be mostly trusting him, and it would be bad to continue to do so after he's already turned traitor. What did we learn from Dow? Was this in LG16a, or LG15, or something else? What? (emphasis mine) While I understand the reasoning behind this, I don't actually recommend it, just because it would give Wyrm a flooded inbox and tons of work, which I don't want to do to him when he's so kindly GMing us. But wouldn't he have put in a description for a Hemalurgist as well? He put in one for me, and I was uninvested. I'm here now! What does AFK stand for? (emphasis mine)I'm pretty sure you meant "Eliminators always know your alignment". On the topic of terminology I don't understand: What's a RNG? I don't understand this. Why wouldn't you give your reasons for believing someone innocent? I definitely agree with your first reason. However, the reference to PMs kind of doesn't apply, because it's not night. Did you just forget this, or did you mean something else that I missed? I talked about this a little in the previous game. We should leave a margin of error of at least one or two, accounting for any lying eliminators as well as any eliminators who are in fact Hemalurgists. Plus we won't know when a role is forged away, so that increases the margin even more. Can you explain why you think this? I really like this idea. (emphasis mine)This is a very good point, and one I hadn't thought of. It's a point against the Elantrians pming Deathclutch (which I was undecided on already). Here's what I've got (please correct me if I'm wrong):Adavantos (3): Kipper, Arrenae, Kaid Paranoid King (1): Bridge Boy Burnt Spaghetti (1): Deathclutch Kasimir (1): Clanky Bridge Boy (1): Bort There are two points in here that I apparently forgot to quote: 1. Whoever said there might be no loyal hemalurgists. This is possible and terrifying. I don't know what we can do to figure it out, though. 2. Deathclutch's suggestion of Elantrians PMing him. I think I'm falling down on the side of "don't do this", mostly because of steph's point. But I'm still uncertain, so I'd like to see more experienced people than me weigh in on it too. EDIT: Wow, that's long. I shortened the quotes a bit.- 1686 replies

Fixed. Worth it. Not until the end, but worth it. One of the only times I cried from sheer emotional intensity was at the end of The Gathering Storm.

OOOOH PRETTYIn unrelated news, I am a lot better at calligraphy after hand copying a letter ten times for a play I'm working in. No one even reads it, so I could put in whatever I liked as long as it looked pretty. Nine of them are what it's supposed to be: romantic fluff (which was hilarious to write, by the way.) The tenth is the first page or so of Fellowship of the Rings. When Mr. Bilbo Baggins of Bag End announced that he would be celebrating his eleventy first birthday with a party of special magnificence... I would have done a Sanderson thing, but I don't have anything good enough memorized yet. In only tangentially related news, my church is celebrating its eleventy-first birthday soon, and no one else is nearly as excited as I am.
