  1. Of course you would. Yes, I miss playing too much not to (though my activity may be low on LG65 rollover days) - count me in as... whatever I was last time. Tinuviel? EDIT: Nope, Crepuscula. Because of course I was.
  2. HH didn't get the candy, but is not the person I was thinking of. They know who they are. also y'all there's a BABY in the street and no one is taking it??? SOMEONE TAKE THE BABY
  3. As a reminder, please do not continue using Term 1 PMs! Create new ones so we can count them without going insane looking at timestamps. Labeled with the correct term number, preferably.
  4. Also, if your EP seem wrong, remember that EP can be used to cancel out DP if the relevant Master puts it on you.
  5. LG65: Term 2, Month 1 - Think of Me Sagaer Murtoy smiled down at his daughter, rocking her gently in his arms. She was difficult to take care of - babies always were - but he didn’t care, not when he could look at her and know she was safe. He laid her down carefully in her crib. Hopefully she’d sleep longer this time - ideally long enough to actually finish his assignment, but he didn’t have much hope for that. She was restless tonight, for whatever reason. He quirked a little smile her way, and set to work. Some time later, the door near-silently opened and closed again. Buried in his work as he was, Sagaer took no notice. But he did notice when a smooth voice said, “She’s beautiful, isn’t she?” Sagaer stood so fast his chair started to topple over, and turned to see a... thing holding his child. It was horrid-looking, near-human but melted and grotesque with red burning eyes. In the back of his mind, Sagaer recognized that it was probably a Skindancer, but most of him was occupied with overwhelming rage and dread. He stared at the creature in silence. Between them, the chair clattered to the ground in an odd counterpoint to the intensity now filling the room. The creature frowned slightly. “I shouldn’t have come in, I suppose, but she’s just cried so much that I couldn’t stand it anymore. Can’t you keep her quiet?” Sagaer found his words again. “Give me back my child.” “Tsk, tsk. That’s not an answer. Which probably means the answer is no.” It looked down at the baby, somehow still sound asleep. “She’ll just have to live elsewhere, I suppose. Somewhere far away from my room.” “You can’t just-” his words stopped in his throat as it lifted a hand, showing off claw-like fingers. With very, very sharp points. “I rather think I can. Don’t worry, at least she’s not going to die.” It smiled, setting her back in her crib. “You, though...” Sagaer swallowed. “If I have to die for her to live, then so be it.” The thing laughed. “Oh, why kill you? Far more punishment to let you live, and yet never see your child again. I rather think you’ll go mad, hmm?” “No, please,” Sagaer whispered. “Please, just leave, I’ll move out, whatever it takes, just let me have my daughter back...” It approached. “And just to give that madness a little boost to make sure....” Sagaer stood frozen as it touched a hand to his forehead and then- Sagaer’s sudden scream shattered the snowy silence and woke the entire building. People blundered into the hallways, trying to figure out what was going on, but by the time they found him the Skindancer was gone. All that remained was Sagaer. He was still screaming long after he entered the Crockery. The next morning, on the first day of term, a baby girl with bright blue eyes and tufts of brown hair was found lying in the snow on the steps of the University. (And everyone else? Well, each student (but one) found a small candy outside their door the next morning, accompanied by a note reading Happy new term!!!) Sagaer Mortoy (Sart) went insane! Shard (Experience) was brought on the Horns and found guilty of Undignified Mischief! The following students were elevated: Seoras (Haelbarde), Bryn Aria (Burnt Spaghetti), Evelyn Bryen (DeTess), Maern (Xino), Lord Silberfarben, Shard (Experience), Lin Wa (Walin), Nethwyl Nox (Bard), Leo (Lopen) Term 2 has begun! Month 1 will end Tuesday, 5 May, at 4:00 PM PDT. We are reducing rollovers to 4 hours rather than the previous 8. Clarifications If you go to Imre, and want to place a contract, please come up with a quick reference word for your contract, and put that in your spreadsheet. Then put the full text of the contract in your GM PM. This will keep your player spreadsheet clean, while making sure we get all the information we need for contracts. You can place more than 6 contracts (especially if some of those are flavor contracts). Just submit the extras in your GM PM. Anyone in Imre can go to all five locations; you do not have to choose one. Also, you will get a tuition reduction for buying an item even if someone else wipes out the inventory first - success is not required. 6. Hael's vote count is correct. Official Vote Count Burnt (1): Sart DeTess (1): Karnage Devotary (1): DeTess Elandera (1): Straw Karnage (1): Elandera Lopen (1): Coda Lum (1): Devotary Rath (1): Lopen Rover (1): Xino Silber (1): Araris Walin (1): Sart Xino (1): Lopen Zillah (1): Hael
  7. Absolutely. Tuition reductions for the Apothecary: 5 jots per Nahlrout/Courier, 1 talent per Bloodless or Gram Tuition reductions for the Black Market: 5 jots for the first contract that turn placed worth less than 6 talents. 1 talent for the first contract placed worth between 6 and 11 talents. 1 talent and 5 jots for the first contract placed worth between 11 and 16 talents. 2 talents for the first contract placed worth 16 talents or more. (So essentially you can get one reduction for each category. You can't get more than that, because we don't want you placing ten 1-drab contracts and getting 5 talents for it. ) Quality thread participation: Any game-related talk (no designated color). If you want to put your game-related talk in RP (I believe Sart did that last turn), that also counts for HQ participation. It has to be around 200 words (so, more than a line or two). Note that we do not put every single post in a word counter, so if you're at 198 words or something that's fine - the 200-word mark is just there to signify 'something substantial'. (This is the same for RP posts, but we're slightly more lenient about those.) Master elevation: We've decided to rescind my clarification from earlier that people being elevated to Master will have their field announced to the thread. Only whether someone was elevated or not will be noted in all cases. (Because it makes the Skindancer alternative win condition actually impossible otherwise, rather than just very improbable.)
  8. It does. The Golden Pony takes off 1 complaint / .5 DP. Every turn/month. Hael is correct about that - all the filed EP has now been delivered to the Masters, and they will announce their decisions at the end of this turn. Impressing a master is filing EP. Yes.
  9. Note: Your Money sheet says that the Bloodless in the Apothecary is 8 talents. It is not; it's actually 10. Oops. (We don't know why that happened, but you can change it yourself if you like - it won't break anything - or we'll get to it some time tomorrow.)
  10. Expelled students cannot message or target you. You can still message them if you so desire, but they can't respond. You can message students in Imre at your leisure.
  11. LG65: Term 1, Month 2 - What Is This Feeling There was a reason Onur Setyn had constant short-term amnesia, but he had forgotten it, of course. Thankfully, it didn’t interfere with his studies - he still had all his knowledge, just not the memories of learning any of it. He just had to keep a lot of notes on him at all times, and make sure to reference them regularly. It was truly difficult to get himself to social events. He sometimes wondered about what he’d forgotten, or how much life he’d lived already that was now gone from his recollections. But he forgot those questions, too. And so, for the first few weeks of University, he remained a content student. On one particularly chilly winter day, Onur decided to hole up in the Archives for the day and do as much studying as he could. He found his usual quiet corner and began to work, enjoying the soft sounds of shuffling papers and quills on parchment. It was such a lovely contrast from the blasting wind outside, he mused. After finishing one of his more complicated assignments, Onur Setyn stood and stretched. He scribbled a quick note to himself, reminding him where his study area was and what he was doing there, then set off on a brisk walk into the Stacks. But something else was in the Stacks, too. Just before Onur was about to turn back, when he’d ventured deep into the Stacks where no one else was, something stepped into his path. It was clothed like another student, but its body.... Onur hoped this wasn’t some being he merely had no memory of, he’d hate to be offensive, but it was so disturbing to look at that he couldn’t help but shudder. Its skin was almost melted-looking, not quite the right texture or shape for a human. Its eyes glowed red in the dim light, and as it smiled he could see its teeth were very, very sharp. “Um... hello?” he offered hesitantly. Even if it was dangerous, politeness could be useful. And if it was just some other species, he’d hate to offend one every time he saw one just because he’d forgotten their appearance every time. It smiled wider. “Interesting.” Onur took a few hesitant steps back as it stalked forward. “I’m terribly sorry for asking, but what are you? I forget things a lot, you see. I’m terribly sorry if I’ve asked you this before. I’m Onur Setyn, by the way.” The being shook his head. “No, you haven’t asked. Perfectly understandable, though, our kind isn’t especially prone to being seen very often. May I?” It offered a hand. Hesitantly, Onur stepped forward and clasped it, but the expected handshake came and went and the being didn’t let go. “Hmm,” it murmured, looking down at Onur’s hand. “What are you so insistent on forgetting, I wonder?” Onur blinked. “Um.” Then the - it hadn’t actually said what it was called, had it? The unknown species threw its head back and laughed. The laugh was chilling, inhuman, and the mere sound nearly made Onur panic. He tugged at the thing’s grip, now, trying to wrest himself free, but its grip was far stronger. “Oh, no need for any work to be done on this one,” it finally got out. “You’ll do it to yourself if I let you. Just removing a couple blocks here and... there.” It grinned. “Goodbye, Onur Setyn.” It released his hand and vanished around a bookcase, but Onur barely paid any attention. He remembered. There was a reason he had forgotten. A reason he’d blocked everything out of his mind, ever since that day three years ago. Images. The face of a young woman, golden-haired and beautiful but utterly terrified. A creek, the waters black as ink. The dead eyes of a corpse, staring up at the sky. Onur Setyn (Hemalurgic Headshot) went insane! Maern (Xino) was brought on the Horns, but the charges were dropped! Nethwyl Nox (Bard) was brought on the Horns and found guilty of Undignified Mischief! Catalan (Coda) was brought on the Horns and found guilty of Conduct Unbecoming! Term 1 Month 2 has begun! It will end Sunday, 3 May, at 12 PM PDT, and will have another 8 hour rollover. Clarifications: Also, slight rule change - to make things easier on us with tuition, we’re making it so you can’t decide to not attend the University until Month 2 of each term. If you’ve stated that you do not want to attend University in Term 1 Month 2, that will go into effect Term 2. Even if you do not attend University for a term, the tuition you would’ve had is frozen in place and if/when you choose to continue your attendance, your tuition will be that amount rather than for the most recent skipped term. We are going to be a little kind this first term in regards to the post/PM ratio and average the two months together rather than have the inflation occur per turn. This will not be the case for later months, so be watchful of how much you’re PMing each turn. Note: At any time, you can ask for an official vote count, and the GMs will provide one as soon as they see it. If you want to put in flavor actions, you totally can! Put them in your spreadsheet unless you have actual actions to submit, in which case you can put them in your GM PM instead. (You can also submit actions in your GM PM at any point and they will be noted, if the spreadsheet is giving you trouble. We’d just highly prefer if it were in the spreadsheet. ) Also, for everyone’s information, Bodyguard and Assassin prices have been adjusted since last game. They are higher, and will increase sharply as they are bought. (And no, sabotages and going insane are not usually distinguished and will not be in the future. It's just literally impossible for anyone to have gone insane this turn and I wanted to write an evil Skindancer. ) Player List1. @Haelbarde - Seòras (Edema Ruh) 2. @Elandera - Athdara, alchemist (Noble) 3. @Burnt Spaghetti - Bryn Aria (Commoner) 4. @DeTess - Evelyn Bryen (Commoner) 5. @Elkanah (Edema Ruh) 6. @Straw - Straw (Commoner) 7. @xinoehp512 - Maern (Commoner) 8. @Lord_Silberfarben - Lord Silberfarben (Commoner) 9. @Coda - Catalan, namer (Noble) 10. @Karnage - Lasko Veitch (Noble) 11. @Hemalurgic Headshot - Onur Setyn (Noble) Insane 12. @StrikerEZ - Ryykal Ladzo (Edema Ruh) 13. @Lumgol - Caia Irèn (Noble) 14. @Experience - Shard (Commoner) 15. @Devotary of Spontaneity - Vol, paranoid alchemist (Noble) 16. @CadCom - Cadaci (Edema Ruh) 17. @Sart - Sagaer Murtoy, accompanied by a child (Commoner) 18. @Furamirionind (Edema Ruh)19. @Zillah - Amila Tays (Commoner)20. @Araris Valerian - Arael Solon (Noble)21. @Rathmaskal - Rath (Commoner)22. @STINK - Ugfal the Three-Handed, with only two hands (Commoner) 23. @Kynedath - Traelynn Weeks, likes beets (Edema Ruh) 24. @Walin - Lin Wa (Commoner) 25. @GreenRover - Knighter Nune (Noble) 26. @Young Bard - Nethwyl Nox, pyromaniac (Commoner) 27. @TheMightyLopen - Leo (Noble)
  12. The turn is closed! Month 1 is over. Month 2 will be up in 8 hours. Please do not PM during this time. Clarifications: GM PMs do not count for your PM:Post ratio. Also, for the spreadsheets: the Money tab does not affect anything - that is for your personal use to figure out your budgeting. Only the Player Actions tab influences what you do. And for the Gambling Den? Please put in the amount you want to wager numerically - so e.g. 1 talent, 5 jots and 2 drabs would be listed as '1.52'. Thanks!
  13. Post count. Sorry, we’re not going to total up every single person’s word count in the thread and in all their PMs. As a reminder, the turn ends in 4 hours! Get your final whatevers in!
  14. Schedules have been handed out! I will be playing in Game 11, on June 15. @DeTess, @Psycho666Soldier from The Center says hello and remembers you, apparently. And thank you all! I will thwack everyone.
  15. If 21 people end up with at least one vote - after the secret vote of the Golden Pony has been taken out - we'd roll a d21 for all 45 DP. If one of those players had 5 votes and all the rest had only 1, it'd still be a d21 - the number of votes you have on you after 1 is irrelevant (except for giving you complaints DP, .5 per vote).
  16. No. No cheating the system. Nooo. They're first level mommets, effectively. That'd be fun though.
  17. I forgot how much this game makes people talk. Lots of clarifications incoming. Also, note on how we'll be doing clarifications this game: This game is complicated enough that we will be much more proactive about clarifications than usual. There are several quotes below not directed at the GMs which I have corrected anyway, for instance. In addition, almost all clarifications asked in private will be reposted (in summarized form) to the thread. (The exception is questions about Naming.) So keep that in mind. On the player spreadsheets: there are 14 rows on the 'Player Actions' tab. The top 7 are meant to act as a key - the bottom 7 are the ones where you actually fill out your information. Black boxes indicate that that option is not available - for instance, all of you currently only have one action period open, so the other three are colored black. The 'Money' tab is primarily for your use - anything you put in there will not affect what you actually do, it's just a way to keep track of how much money you have and plan out your actions accordingly. PMs: Also, when making PMs, please include the names of all involved players in the title! That makes our job much easier. You may also want to label them 'Cycle 1' - for simplicity, we'll be asking you to create all new player-player PMs each cycle. On ranks vs elevations: if you have one elevation in Linguistics and the second in R&L, you get the first level upgrade for each and are a Re'lar. If you have two elevations in Linguistics, you are a Re'lar with the second level upgrade in Linguistics. If you have one elevation in Archives and the second in Alchemy, you can make Re'lar level Alchemy items, but only at their first level upgrade. So effectively you're rewarded for staying within one field. Cheating Death cannot be used to self-target. Please note that the Students' win condition is to expel or kill all Skindancers. Skindancers can still sabotage once expelled (though they can only target other expelled students or students in Imre), but if all of them are expelled the students will automatically win the game. Yes. The summary rules were off (they're fixed now) because the tuition inflations/reductions were changed fairly late: in previous games these have been an average of the two turns; they're now all calculated per turn. So you get 3 jots off this turn for a single complaint and you get another 3 jots off next turn if you file a complaint then. A number of things have changed since the previous edition, too. A short summary: Sympathy got a massive rework, Alchemy and Artificery have been buffed slightly too, the social classes have been balanced to be on more equal footing, a new lodging has been made available, Devi is nicer to you, and the Gambling Den exists. You can put orders in during the first Month - just use the second month dropdown to put them in early. (It's the one marked in red, you can't miss it.) How the Eolian works: At the start of the game, we rolled a d10 and assigned a number to you. If you're certain social classes this number was then modified, and a submission added between 1 and 3 more. The skill level indication you received in your GM PM is telling you approximately your final base stat. Practicing adds another .5 per time to said stat. When you perform, we will roll another d10 and add it to that stat; if you get above a 15 you'll receive your Pipes. This is incorrect. NPC-controlled Masters will distribute DP equally over players who have any number of votes, irrespective of how many votes they have. Anyone can use a mommet. The level of the mommet is tied to the level of creation: so if you're given a Master-level mommet, you'll be able to kill the player attached to it. But you'll still have the +4 IP cost for using it. Devi's mommets do not have an IP cost. Yes. PC Masters can choose not to give DP if they wish, but all NPC Masters give all 5 DP each turn. No. Note that this vote subtraction comes before DP assignment. If you have one vote on you and are staying at the Golden Pony, that vote will vanish and you will not be on the Masters' list of 'people with votes on them' to whom they'll be assigning DP. You cannot create a mommet and use it the same turn. Creating a mommet takes one turn, and it will be available for use on the next. But that is within one cycle. (Also, worth noting: the Skindancers have one sabotage per turn, not per cycle as per usual for LGs. But there is also a lynch every turn, so it effectively cancels out.) Elevation levels are not a secret. Fields are. Writeups will say something like "Queensteph, PK, Aonar, and Venture Mistborn were elevated!" - unless the elevation is to Master, in which case the writeup will say something like "Elbereth is now the Master Rhetorician!" (so there Hael ).
  18. Thank you! Also, to be clear: 1. The player action sheets are where you submit your actions. You can also do it in GM PM, but the player spreadsheet is much preferred and makes our lives much easier. 2. If you have a random sentence in your PM and you're not sure what it's about, that's an indication of your musical ability. I realized after the fact that some of them aren't actually very clear about that. If anyone wants the spec doc, PM me or Wilson or both. It's not created yet, because we are both very tired and need to sleep, but it'll be up tomorrow. Anyway, I'm off. Don't break anything while we're asleep?
  19. LG65: Term 1, Month 1 - Blizzards and Bad Omens It was winter when the Skindancers first came. The ground had just been buried under the first heavy snow, and the last leaves stripped from the branches of the now-naked trees swaying in the cold north wind. The University lay heavily under the silence, the kind that comes when snow has muffled every sound and everyone is inside keeping warm by a fire. Master Ivarra could sense it. Danger, somewhere, somehow - but concealing themselves is in a Skindancer’s very nature, and so she could not pick them out among the students who entered the University that turn. Still, the Master Namer watched each with steel-sharp eyes, and kept a hand always at the hilt of her sword of iron. *** The term started with a blizzard, because of course it did. And the Master Arithmetist still required them to attend classes, because of course he did. Parien sighed, closing the classroom door behind her with a push that may have been slightly harder than necessary. Her face started to burn off its numbness as she hung her coat up, but her toes still felt like frozen blocks of ice and probably would for a while. Stupid circulation. She frowned when she noticed the Master Arithmetist wasn’t even in the room yet. If I just wasted my time tramping all the way here from the Windy Tower... He was usually the first to arrive, but maybe the snow was delaying him. And then she waited. She settled into her seat, pulled out her notes, even made sure her homework was organized. She was starting to look around at other students and wonder if it was worth waiting around when the door opened and shut with a click. The Master Arithmetist was not the one who had opened the door. A woman who seemed much too young for her silver hair stalked to the front of the room instead, dressed in black and silver with a sword buckled at her waist. “Ivarra,” someone whispered. The Master Namer. Parien hadn’t even recognized her - she’d been there when tuition was determined, of course, but that had been such a haze of stress that she barely remembered anything from it. “I do not usually work with new students,” Ivarra said, silencing the whispers. “It is a waste of my time and yours. But I think it useful, given the circumstances, to deliver a warning.” One particularly brave student raised his hand. She ignored him and continued, “The University is a place of wonders and great things, but extremes come at both ends. Do not think of this as a safe place or a haven. It is not.” She paused, watching them coldly. “And if you prove yourself a danger to your fellow students, whether through malice or stupidity, you will be punished and removed. I advise you to avoid doing so.” And with that, she turned on her heel and walked towards the door, exiting before anyone could even think of anything to say. Long Game 65: Dancing Through Life has begun! You should have received your PM by now. It will contain a link to a spreadsheet for you, in which you must submit any and all actions (including lodging, going to Imre, and submitting EP). If you have questions, feel free to ask in your GM PM, but please do not try to break it. The cycle will end at noon Pacific time on Friday, May 1. There will then be an 8-hour rollover period, and the new cycle will start at 8pm PDT that evening. As a reminder, if you have not read the rules yet I would highly recommend it. Remember that you have two votes to cast if you so desire. If you have any questions, please ask! This is a complicated game and we're here to clarify things. Good luck!
