  1. I have the same problem, so yeah it hasn't been updated. *prods Amazon*
  2. Well it did take us over 25 pages to figure out
  3. I believe the (Roshar?) map hint is that Roshar is shaped like the later stages of a Julia set.
  4. It seems very likely. Here's a great list Sadly, we won't find out more for years There's lots of speculation on what will ultimately form Shardplate. (sorry, not trying to be snippy, trying to be helpful <3)
  5. The picture in the library, of a person in front of a blue disk, iirc.
  6. Well, hatred, in one of its worst forms, really does devour everything--love, joy, etc. There's a reason it can be called "All consuming hatred". And people who have exacted some form of hatred-based revenge often describe it as "feeling hollow afterward." So yeah, consuming emotion and passion sounds like it's all part of being Odium.
  7. Brandon's consistently RAFO'd whether the Heralds are native to Roshar or not. That having been said, I don't think he'd want people as important as the Heralds to be from another Cosmere planet, since that would bring other planets a bit more to the forefront than he's said he's wanted until he does the over-arching series. Also, Roshar is apparently a very busy Cosmere Crossroads (What a great location for a Shadesmar(t)!), with multiple groups of people from various corners of the Cosmere so it wouldn't be surprising for their names and some traditions to have carried over from other planets.
  8. That's how it's taught here so that's how we all spell and say it. I have no idea why.
  9. Brandon said that Peter wouldn't let him make that material out of aluminum. Also, it's Aluminum in US, but Aluminium in EU. Kind of like the u in a lot of words.
  10. Because Hoid knows when and where he's needed, and also is extremely interested in getting his hands on every possible type of Investiture. Odium's forces could get their hands on Cryptics in Shadesmar easily enough if that was what they were after.
  11. I also need a rolling on the floor laughing emote, but there isn't one
  12. STICK! Also Spiritual Realm, Silver Kingdoms, Sons of Honor.
  13. The Sugarhouse Signing that took place yesterday. The info will be up on Arcanum soon.
  14. Shu-Dereth, Shu-Korath, Shu-Keseg, Sycla, Saolin, Svorden
  15. You get an upvote for that amazing amount of alliteration. Also I would read that story.
  16. Well, that's because of this: https://wob.coppermind.net/events/100-rbooks-ama-2015/#e1672 100% definitive
  17. You made me snicker, which earned me a strange look.
  18. How could I forget Shai? Oh, and Silverlight. Shin, Shaod, Sazed...
  19. So there's a lot of theorizing and evolution here. Wall of text incoming! In essence, the Shards aren't really gods the way we think of them (i.e. divine beings). They're just really really really powerful people due to a specific circumstance that occurred long ago. And the reason I bolded the last part of your statement is because of this: There's the Vessel, which is the person that existed before they picked up the Shard, and then there's the Shard, which is the pure power. The Vessel can have its own thoughts, desires, motivations, etc. The Shard has an Intent. It's more-or-less completely devoted to that single Intent. Over time, that Shardic Intent affects the Vessel's thoughts, desires, motiviations, etc, to a degree. What kind of degree depends on the strength and willpower of the Vessel. Harmony, aka Sazed, for example, is nearly paralyzed by inaction due to the perfectly opposing Intents of the Shards he holds, despite what *he* wants, in a relatively short time. Preservation was literally unable to destroy at all, because of the Intent of the Shard. Vin, however, was able to destroy, despite holding Preservation, because she hadn't held it long enough to have it affect her. Odium, on the other hand, seems to be in fairly decent control of the Intent of his Shard, and seems to act with more freedom than, say, Ruin or Preservation were able to. Splinters are smaller bits of power that have gained a degree of sentience. All types of spren are a type of Splinter, for example. Some are as small-bits as windspren. Some are as large as the Stormfather. The more power they are comprised of, the faster they gain sentience. So, the Unmade are Splinters of Odium, no matter how you turn it--they are chunks of his power that have (sort of) gained sentience. Some have even gained sapience. We don't know how much free will a Splinter can have, exactly. But we know that Syl defies the Stormfather (who created her) multiple times, and she's just a tiny splinter. So it stands to reason that they can possibly have quite a bit of free will--though it's hard to say since we don't know how Odium created them, whether he kept some sort of link to them, etc, etc. Therefore, Sja-anat, for example, isn't any kind of deviation from what we could reasonably expect from a Splinter. And I agree that you definitely need to read Secret History. There is a LOT of information there about the 3 Realms and the workings of the Cosmere. Warbreaker is kind of a prequel for a few of the...more unexplained characters in Stormlight Archive. It's definitely worth a read, since I think that the Warbreaker planet and Roshar are *very* closely linked.
  20. Brandon seems to really enjoy giving things names that start with the letter "s". Planets, People, Books, and Things. So I thought it'd be fun to make a thread that lists All The Things that start with S. Some of the ones I remember are Sel, Scadrial, seons, skaize, spren, Stormlight, Shalash, Stormfather, Silence Divine, Shadows for Silence, Shadows Beneath, Shadows of Self, Secret History, Stormlight Archive, Suri, Susebron, Shard, Splinter(ing), Sliver, Shattering, (Cognitive) Shadows, Shades, Shadesmar. Oh, and of course, SANDERSON. What are some of the ones everyone can remember? (Note, this isn't a criticism. Brandon puts a lot of work into linguistics and names. It's just a funny thing that I noticed.)
  21. It's perfect. Thank you thank you thank you.
  22. Oh, cool question! Hmmmm. Healing Stilling mostly used Spirit, with a bit of the other flows thrown in, right? So it stands to reason that Stilling cuts off a portion of the Spiritweb from the C/P. Hmmmm. I'm not sure if this would be visible from the CR. Maybe like, as a dimming of the person in the CR? Or do you think it'd manifest as part of them missing? They see themselves as missing an essential part of themselves, so maybe like a hole in the chest, where their will to live has been torn out? That's a little ghastly lol. But yeah, I think it would be like healing a Shardblade wound. I don't know if you can do it with Regrowth (I can't remember, can Renarin heal Shardblade wounds?) but if they become a KR and push enough Stormlight through it, they could definitely heal it, since Shardblades wound or kill the connection between the physical being and its soul.
  23. Slight correction to your statement, which I agree with. To be a *sliver* he must have already been a human (well, sapient being) intelligence. A splinter is the bit of investiture that gains intelligence (Radiant spren, Seons, etc). The sliver is the intelligence that gains investiture (TLR). /end pedant mode Brandon's too fond of words that being with S. Edit 3: BESKAR YOU HAVE A COSMERE TIMELINE! I've been thinking of making one but you've done it! THAAAAAAAANNNNKKKKKKKK YOUUUUUUUUUUU
  24. For the first part, Secret History and other Cosmere spoilers: And some WoB As you can see, in every instance he talks about Cognitive Shadows, it's in relation to the physical body being dead. There's, so far as I have found, not a single instance of a CS being created before the death of the body. For the bolded part of yours that I quoted, you're using your theory to prove your theory. Your theory is that the SF was a CS that existed at the same time as Honor. We have no proof, other than your theory here, that CS can exist before the death of the being. The SF is a CS *now* that also holds a chunk of Honor's power. You have no evidence that the SF was a CS before Honor died. I'm saying he was a Splinter before Honor died. That's how he could exist and have his own sapience. Because Splinters can exist at the same time as a Vessel and be intelligent. But CS can't.
  25. A god, or at least a Shard, does affect all 3 realms. Actually, all sapient entities do. A Shard does so to a higher degree. But a Shadow is what's left behind. It's not a literal shadow, or even a figurative shadow. It's what's left of a person's mind after they die. (We won't get into whether it's really their mind, or an imprint of their mind). So the Shard does cast a shadow, or rather affects, all three realms, but that's not what Cognitive Shadows means. A. Lots of WoB, Secret History, Shadesmar, Nalthis, pretty much the entire Cosmere. B. There is no evidence that a Cognitive Shadow can exist before a person dies. We *know* that all sapient beings exist on all 3 realms. Splitting off the Cognitive Shadow would be splitting off the mind, leaving body and soul mindless. C. I actually conceded the original theory of yours. I said that I thought it was stretching definitions a bit too much, but that's why speculations are fun. The part I'm debating with you right now is this part: Yes, the SF is a CS of Honor. The SF existed before Honor died, but as a Splinter. When Honor died, the Splinter and the CS merged to become the SF we know now. And that's why defining the SF is can be fuzzy, because he's not really a Splinter, or a Sliver (technically wasn't a Sliver at all) any more. He's part remnants of Honor's mind, part of Honor's power, and bonded to a mortal. And yeah, Rayse can't make 9 CS of himself. However, he can make Splinters of himself, and those Splinters can gain sentience and even independence. I'm sure that the Shard that makes them can encourage or speed up that sentience. But once they are separate from the Shard, and have their own sentience, they would *likely* have a degree of free will.
