The problem with Hemalurgy in this instance is that it requires intent. You have to be stabbing something with the intention of stealing part of their soul, otherwise nothing happens.

No, I said whether it would occur in the gap or not would was a little bit tentative. WoK definitely takes place before W&W. Quotes added to my previous post.

MB Era 2 takes place at roughly the same time as Stormlight Archive. Currently, the timeline is that AoL takes place in the gap between books, but that's tentative. Regardless, Wax and Wayne being in WoK 1 would have been very obvious from the perspectives we got from them in AoL, SoS and BoM Since they know very little of the Cosmere, it's not them. Brandon is calling it Era 2, now. There's a WoB or a blog post about him giving up and calling it Era 2 somewhere.

So much this. You put it much better than I have been.

Szeth, the Stone Shamans, and Taln's Honorblade
RShara replied to Calderis's topic in Stormlight Archive
I don't think the Heralds leaving their swords was relevant to the Oathpact. It was more a symbol that they don't consider themselves Heralds (worthy to wield them?) any more. Their refusal to return to Braize is enough. I don't disagree. But finding an Honorblade across the length and breadth of Roshar, at the exact moment (or soon after) that it's "unbonded"? Then retrieving it and replacing it with a deadblade undetected, unnoticed, with no sign left over? And finally, getting it mixed up with a completely different Honorblade? I could accept one of the above, maybe two. But all three together? Nope, too implausible for me. That reminds me. Even if they had a Shardblade to switch, *why* would they be interested in swapping Szeth's deadBlade with another, instead of just stealing it and disappearing? If they could appear and disappear with no trace, then no one would have any clue who took his deadBlade, so they wouldn't exactly care about being caught. No, the only logical conclusion I can draw is that someone switched Taln's Blade, specifically, probably maliciously, with the express intention of either acquiring an Honorblade of their own, or casting doubt on Taln being a Herald. -
They're not official. No one demanded more death. But people who die need to stay dead more often.

But why would Odium turn her into a CS in the first place?
-
Sorry, Eshonai is not coming back Also, no reason for Odium to Invest in her enough for her to become a Fused, since she fought against him (her true self did anyway).
-
Brandon has said that Bronze can sense other types of Investiture.

The answer to why she avoided Hoid is actually in Secret History, if you haven't read it. As to aluminum, any Al from any planet will work, not just Scadrial. Just like metal from any world will fuel Allomancy, and and polestone from any world, including synthetic gems, would hold Stormlight.
-
Also, many of the Fused have yet to show up. So I agree, we haven't seen anything yet, and Odium already controls like, 2/3 of the continent.
-
Welcome! Yes, there are a number of us who think that Cultivation is being extremely subtle and is nudging events toward a big ol' Odium take-down. There's a lot of good info in this thread, if you'd like to take a look
-
If metals from different planets will work for Allomancy (which they do) and they can affect things on other planets (which they do), there's no reason to think people from other planets wouldn't throw atium shadows. Atium works by allowing the allomancer to see slightly into the Spiritual Realm. This function is independent of location. If someone has a Spiritual aspect, they will be visible to atium, unless there is proof to the contrary.
-
Well, the Fused are bound on Braize, but Odium isn't, nor are some of his other agents. I'm sure Odium's been moving behind the scenes for some time.
-
Yes! I've noticed the same thing. Either Roshar's CR functions very differently from Scadrials, or something very strange is going on with Roshar's CR! We need to see deaths from Nalthis' CR asap! lol

Szeth, the Stone Shamans, and Taln's Honorblade
RShara replied to Calderis's topic in Stormlight Archive
There's another that says he did not switch the Blades. https://wob.coppermind.net/events/224-words-of-radiance-san-francisco-signing/#e6885 -
Just saw this WoB from November, so it looks like, Yes, Ashyn is the metaphorical equivalent to the Tranquilline Halls. https://wob.coppermind.net/events/176-oathbringer-chicago-signing/#e8496

I'm on the "wants to fix Yolen" bandwagon. But should this perhaps be in Unpublished?

Szeth, the Stone Shamans, and Taln's Honorblade
RShara replied to Calderis's topic in Stormlight Archive
Something that lets them find Taln's blade, in the mistaken belief that it's the Windrunner blade? And that hadn't let them pinpoint and steal back the Skybreaker blade for all these centuries? -
Szeth, the Stone Shamans, and Taln's Honorblade
RShara replied to Calderis's topic in Stormlight Archive
If they don't have fabrials, what are they using to find the Honorblades? What mechanism? The second two I changed to "difficult" instead of "implausible". There are a number of parties on Roshar that are aware of Heralds and the likelihood of an incoming Desolation. Having someone pop up with a Shardblade that doesn't disappear automatically, who proclaims himself Talenelat'Elin, Herald of the Almighty, would certainly raise a number of suspicions. Enough to have someone switch out the Blades for a number of reasons. Candidates could range from the Ghostbloods, Ishar, any of the other non-completely-insane-Heralds, the 17th Shard, the Sleepless, or even Cultivation, since she apparently had hold of NB at some point. The Shin feel even using Stormlight is blasphemous. They likely know that Shardblades are dead spren. It's not a huge leap to assume that they also feel Shardblades are blasphemous. Szeth certainly never mentions any other Shardblades in his PoVs, and he mentions the Honorblades several times. -
Szeth, the Stone Shamans, and Taln's Honorblade
RShara replied to Calderis's topic in Stormlight Archive
I still think this involves two major reaches that are improbable. 1. That the Shin have a way of knowing when an Honorblade is unbound. This has a really big assumption built in. I find it much more likely that they are monitoring for news about Szeth and will trace the path of the Honorblade from that point. 2. That they would confuse the Windrunner blade with the Stoneward blade with whatever tracking they have. If there's a tracking system, it would make more sense for it to be on the blade, rather than a worldwide "Honorblade Alert! Alert!" system. Also, Taln dropped his Honorblade, yes. But he didn't "Unbond" it. He's still alive and didn't dismiss it. He's not been sane enough to try and summon it back, so we don't know if it's actually been unbonded or not. And a couple other things that seem very difficult. 3. I know the Shin have access to the Honorblades that confer the Transportation surge, but being able to pop in, grab and *switch* the Blade, and pop back out seems like something that would be very difficult to do. An inside job would make a lot more sense. 4. Where did the fake Honorblade come from? Do the Shin have a bunch of random Shardblades hidden away too? Yeah. He reported seeing voidspren or voidbringers. The Shamanite decided he was wrong and made him Truthless for lying. -
It sort of is. But would be weird. https://wob.coppermind.net/events/127-salt-lake-city-comiccon-2017/#e5188

Ah, I see. Yeah, I agree with that.

The Skybreaker's ability to determine guilt from innocence isn't their Resonance. https://wob.coppermind.net/events/171-oathbringer-release-party/#e8208 It seems like Shallan's ability to take Memories is important to her ability to Lightweave, which is why it makes sense as a Resonance to me.
