Healing using Hermalugical Spikes and Regrowth

Joking about something doesn't mean that you've accepted it. Actually, as a defensive reaction, it generally means the opposite. -
Healing using Hermalugical Spikes and Regrowth
RShara replied to MountainKing's topic in Cosmere Discussion
I'm sorry, but it IS about how you see yourself. It's obvious throughout the books, and Brandon has confirmed it. Lopen's arm grew back because he never accepted that he was one armed, and because he saw Kaladin heal himself with stormlight, so he knew it was possible. The problem is that an arm isn't a homogeneous object. It's flesh, blood, veins, muscles, tendons, bone, marrow, fat, and whatever else. In order to soulcast into something, you have to have an understanding of what it is and be able to picture it. We also haven't ever seen anyone successfully soulcast into a non-homogeneous substance. And soulcasting into something *living*? I don't think that's possible at all. Cohesion or superglue could attach the arm to the body, but that doesn't mean that it will function as an arm. There's nerves, tendons, muscles, veins and bones involved. You would have to know exactly where and how to attach each individual part, while keeping that arm from experiencing tissue death at the same time. I don't think Rosharans are up to that type of task. -
[OB] **Oathbring Spoilers** Did Dalinar do it?

Okay, I won't spoil it, but you will find out. -
[OB] **Oathbring Spoilers** Did Dalinar do it?

Did you read Oathbringer? Because this is answered. -
If it makes anyone feel any better, I tell Cal he's full of crap all the time. And vice versa. And admittedly, a lot of those times, I (or he) really are full of crap

There's a bit from the gemstone archive about Feverstone Keep being near Rall Elorim.

Other than the "want to dislike" part, that's basically how I felt Even though I like a lot of theories, I can't get behind them due to text and WoBs. This would explain a rather curious event, and doesn't contradict anything we know about the Shin.

What is the acceleration due to gravity on Roshar?
RShara replied to Hoiditthroughthegrapevine's question in Cosmere Q&A
Gravitational acceleration isn't directly proportional, I don't think? So .7 Earth Gravity wouldn't necessarily be 70% of 9.8 m/s^2. I can't remember for sure. Anyway, the post above gives the mass of Roshar, which will allow him to calculate the correct gravitational acceleration. -

This post by jofwu should have everything you need for your calculations -
Well I can't think of anything in the text or WoBs that counter it, and we know so little about the Shin. And you are right that they guard the Honorblades. And they did try to invade the rest of the continent. So a theory that they invaded to claim the Shardblades holds water
-
The Lord Ruler definitely Ascended before the events of the Manywar and Warbreake. It would depend on at what point that religion existed, but it's most likely that it predates the Iridescent Tones.
-
I think the explanation is simpler than that. They didn't get the Honorblade until that point. T stole it from Bridge 4. Odium demanded it from T. Odium gave it to the Fused. The Fused gave it to Moash. I think from when Odium got it from T to when they gave it to Moash was just a few hours.
-
Hmmm I didn't think of the Shin Invasion in that light. That's really interesting and definitely possible. Awesome!
-
I don't think killing the Herald is a requirement for bonding their Honorblade. Szeth is bonded with his for years, and Bridge 4 practiced with it too with no problems. Having access to all 10 surges would be freaky, but not really that hard...assuming you know the Shin have the other 8 and can get them from them...

Uhhhh what are you talking about...? To clarify, if we're thinking that it is Taln speaking, maybe he is referring to the parts of his mind that he's lost, in the 4500 years that he's been tortured. I am not referencing anything but what is being discussed in this thread only. I it because Taln is very insane most of the time, so him referring to his sanity in that would be "on the nose" enough to be funny.
-
Or Jezrien. Or Tanavast. Or his sanity It is so vague I really have no good ideas.

I'm sorry, this kinda irks me. Just because I don't think this theory is valid doesn't mean I'm being negative. I am being very patient and explanatory. Being negative is something else completely. No. Shalash is that one. Okay, so you still don't address my question. That death rattle says basically that the daughter of kings and winds is scratching out her own eyes. You agree that Shalash is the daughter of Kings and Winds. So how can Shalash not be the one scratching out her eyes, since the death rattle clearly refers to her? Or to rephrase, "A woman sits and scratches out her own eyes. Shalash, the vandal." At the time that Taln recognized Ash, he was lucid. He even knew that Dalinar was waiting for him. I'm sorry, I don't think I can dive into wildly speculative theories that I feel are wrong. I can play devil's advocate with the best of them, but this isn't the same.
-
That's possible, but I mean...the decision wouldn't have been made right away. There were probably days or weeks of discussion before a decision was made. Up to that point, the spren who disagreed might be fading, but it wouldn't be insta-death, giving them ample time to seek out options amd spren.
-
I mean the idea is interesting, but let's look at the premises: Chana has to actually be thinking of herself as "Ash." To the point where she obsessively and compulsively destroys all depictions of "Shalash." We see in OB that this isn't a *voluntary* thing. She must destroy any depiction of Shalash, no matter what else is happening. She's not doing it to hide herself, she literally cannot help it, because she feels like she doen't deserve to be glorified. She has no compulsion to destroy the sketches that Hoid did. Taln has to misrecognize Chana as Ash. Chana has to be "The daughter of Kings and Winds." Chana has to have some really weird motive to impersonate Ash. Literally no one would care if she's Chana or Ash, except the other Heralds, who would recognize her anyway. We would have had to have seen Shalash running around in some other fashion, as Brandon explicitly states that we have seen "Shalash Running Around." Chana's nickname would have to be Ash, instead of Chana. I feel like there are too many assumptions that contradict the text for this theory to be valid.

*shrug* I guess it's how you look at it. I have no problem with being shot down if I'm wrong. It's happened plenty of times, and I'm usually grateful for the additional insight. And you don't have to. But new people shouldn't be misled just because people don't like being disagreed with. No, Ash destroying Shalash statues by itself doesn't equate. Until you add in the Death Rattle that I posted. If I ride a bike and you ride a bike, and someone says, "The person riding the blue bike is ereh_margrana_tresni" then it's pretty clear that you're the one riding the blue bike, not me.
-
Ummmm I don't know that the two have any bearing on each other? I guess I need to know how you interpret the Death Rattle and what bearing it has on the Recreance in order to answer that question? There were definitely 10 orders. They were loved by everyone, once. The Almighty died (forsaking them?). I don't even have a guess as to the last part. But none of that has anything to do with my theory or the Recreance. @Yata From the vision, it was stated that it was the entire order of Windrunners and Stonewards. Also, as covered in #6, none of the surviving spren understand the reason for the Recreance. If some disagreed, they should have sought ways to break their bond or said goodbye to their friends. And they didn't.

I'm sorry, I guess you're taking "shot down" as negative. I mean, we all care about this fandom and many of us have many theories. But we also want to be accurate in our theories. I mean, I can say that I think Jezrien was Tanavast's Cognitive Shadow hiding from Odium, and that's why he was killed. But with 0 evidence anywhere, I would rightfully be refuted pretty quickly. And this is a good thing. Wildly speculative theories can be fun, but they are also misleading, especially for newcomers to the fandom. Someone could read "Ash is really Chana" and if there's no debate, they might think that was a known fact, when it isn't. I kind of feel like you're saying, "No one should ever disagree with anyone else's theories, no matter how speculative they are" and I think that's a bad path to take. For one thing, it'd be boring. For another, it wouldn't much expand our understanding of the Cosmere. We have to make sure our theories are faithful and accurate to the text. It's not personal. No one is making personal attacks, which is the difference between here and reddit. Everyone in this thread has been respectful and polite, just completely and utterly disagreeing. There's nothing wrong with that. As for your theory. The Death Rattle says, "A woman sits and scratches out her own eyes. Daughter of Kings and Winds, the vandal." So her own eyes. She is scratching out the eyes and faces of her own depictions. She is the Daughter of Kings and Winds. This is clearly referring to Shalash, as Shalash is Jezrien's daughter. Jezrien is King of Kings, and Herald of the Windrunners. So who have we seen scratching out and destroying depictions of Shalash? Ash. And since it's the woman scratching out her own eyes, Ash must be Shalash, scratching out her own (Shalash's) eyes and faces in artwork. I really don't understand how this can be read in any other way.

Okay, so everyone should update their Valentine with their signature, to make it easier to prove if someone rips it. I just did with all of mine. Good luck!
-
Isn't persuading someone to see something your way the point of arguing? Hmmm. As I said earlier, building theories based on evidence is great, we all do it and it's fun. But coming up with an idea and forcing the evidence to stretch to meet your conclusion (i.e. assuming things to the point of implausibility)...well you can do it, but expect to be shot down.

Allomancers don't actually push on metals
RShara replied to Lord Bookwyrm's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Kelsier actually pushes on the ends of some bars during his Inquisitor fight in TFE. And the blue lines don't actually stem from your center of gravity They come out of the chest, and the center of gravity is down around the navel. Now, this might be because Brandon doesn't realize where the center of gravity is......- 9 replies
