  1. So, according to Brandon, the similarity of names between the Worldbringers (Mistborn) and the Worldsingers (Stormlight Archive) isn't coincidental- though the only reference I could find for it on the Coppermind was a redirect back to one of Chaos' posts on this forum. But looking at it made me wonder about other odd quirks in the cosmere. We know Devotion was named Aona, and it seems likely that the AonDor magic of Sel is connected to her (because of the similarity in names). The focus of the magic system were Aons, which share that link even more. Dominion was named Skai, and coppermind speculation connects them to Skaze. Preservation was named Leras, and the bead that transforms Scadrians into Mistborn is Lerasium, while Ruin (Ati) works through Atium. Who was responsible for these similarities? Lerasium isn't named in the books(as far as I can recall), but everyone knows what atium is. I considered that maybe the Lord Ruler found out about Ati (rather than just Ruin) when he held the power at the well then decide to stick -um at the end, but that doesn't really explain the Aona-Aon connection.
  2. And you all called me mad when I said Warbreaker was my favourite book. Well who's mad now, hmm? WHO'S MAD NOW?! Soooo excited to see Nightblood and Vasher return. I kind if suspected Zahel was Nalthian during my reading, but I wasn't if I was right or if it was just wish-fulfilment. Glad to see it's the former, though I'm going to be very curious to see what happens if Nightblood falls into a group of Alethi. Those guys have such a desire for magic swords, I can see the entire army tearing itself apart. Makes me wonder why Nalan didn't ever use it though.
  3. Oh great! I'm a Luddite, so I assumed that fatal error message was just proof that my computer is terrible. Glad to see my excuse for a fancy new set up get shot down. EDIT He said, before having a different problem. I thought the two were connected. Whenever I make a post and it returns to the topic, the formatting is very... broken. Whenever I leave the topic and click back in, it appears fine, and I don't have the same problems in my PMs, but it's kind of common on-board. Board problem, or is my computer playing up?
  4. Honestly, it didn't occur to me that that wasn't a scene of Shallash smashing a statue. I don't know the context of it, but it just seemed to fit with the scene we saw in Way of Kings. Though... I suppose it could be considered strange that Shallan doesn't mention the faces being similar. Shallash scratched out the painting of her at the feast, and I can't remember if she is destroying Herald artwork or things related to her specifically.
  5. Wow monster, how much did you have to Spren to get all those? I hope it was worth it, just try not to shake them too much. Though, if you do, random tip: did you know that Tapping a drinks can before you open it will Burn away the fizz?
  6. I don't see you Cultivating better ones. If your so good at it, why not Endow us with some of your skill? Or is all your talk just hot Breathe?
  7. We're really Pewter Dragging our feet on making up new puns aren't we guys? Come on! We have to Preserve Persevere, and Steel Push our way through this!
  8. You guys! How am I supposed to get concessions out of Feather to amass my own political power if you guys cave every time she expresses rage? Er, I mean... Hail Lady Feather?
  9. If he does, I hope it's an arc-ending book, either book Five or book Ten; that would be kind of cool.
  10. Oh my Shard. One of my first posts on 17th Shard, and I forgot to follow it up? Anyway, yeah, read Blood of the Fold a while ago, and SHARD STORM IT GOODKIND. (Full spoilers ahead, for anyone who actually cares about that series) More level-headed note... I was really looking forward to the Dresden files, but I just couldn't make myself read the second book. A bit disappointing.
  11. Oh dear, Lady Feather. It would appear that your access and analysis of Words of Radiance has resulted in a Day of Recreance amongst your Featherlegions.
  12. Only problem with using Atium for chess might be that it would only let you see one move ahead, but I don't see any reason why Atium couldn't be used for non-violent things.
  13. NALTHIS SHOULD BE NEXT. IN FACT, WE SHOULD ONLY PLAY NALTHIS GAMES FROM NOW ON, FOREVER AND EVER. (Sorry. Love Warbreaker, and it doesn't get nearly the amount of attention it deserves.) I probably am hewing too closely to the roles we already have in place, but I guess (in my own defence) That I'm rather incompetent and work best from a guide. The main thing I wanted to try implementing is working out a system for Investiture, so if I do run that Shard game, it would probably be tinkered for the next person to play it, based on how things work out. Speaking of which... I've been trying to come up with Victory Conditions for the Shard game, and I've found myself tinkering with the rules a little (or... well, a lot): Factions: Voidbringers Worldhoppers 17th Shard Voidbringers: Odium, Odium's Champion, X number of Players Worldhoppers: Hoid, X number of players 17th Shard: Remaining players Voidbringers Major Victory: "The Broken One Reigns" All the Shards are Shattered Hoid is killed Worldhoppers/17th Shard are outnumbered. Voidbringers Minor Victory: "The most loathsome, crafty and dangerous individual I had ever met" One of the above is not met (eg: Worldhoppers/17th Shard are destroyed, but Odium is Shattered) (Still working on the other two factions; don't want to use Coppermidn to research quotes until I finish WoR, for fear of spoilers) Did I do it right?
  14. For Steel, maybe storing "speed" means you can't vote during the relevant day cycle, but you can get an extra vote at the next? As for Blessings, maybe have them be a passive abilities? Like, a Kandra with the Blessing of Stability can't be effected by emotional allomancy, perhaps?
  15. Glad for the enthusiasm! Yeah, at first I didn't think we'd need that many players- it's the same number of roles, after all- but between world hopper hangings, Shard splinterings, Odium Splintering and the Champion killings, we'd be losing four players a turn. Defiantly need a lot of participants for this to last longer than a week.
  16. Hmm... I kinda like it. Sort of like being a Returned. I suppose granting any of the players a permanent investiture is a big move in a game like this, especially if it stacks up (like being a Wirkdhopper, Invested with Honor, Splinter of a preservation). (And damnation, I typed Dominion as Domination for some reason- I'll edit fix it later). How do the other roles seem? I'm kind of worried about balance, especially with the investiture thing.
  17. Upvotes for all the hard work, Hero. I complimented you on them already, but still, each of those messages is complicated and interesting, and I am so jealous of your skills.
  18. Designers Notes: First draft of roles for the Shard-Game I mentioned above. Most of the Shards are levelled up or re-titled versions of the roles we currently have, since the main game mechanic I wanted to add was Investiture. During Wake of the Koloss, I was a Lurcher, so I had something I could do every night. During the Devils Den, I think it was Seran who said he started playing again once he had been notified that he'd snapped. So, I'm hoping that the shifting powers and the chance that, theoretically, anyone can get an ability during the night cycle might encourage activity, since Shards would have to decide whether or not to invest and who to invest quickly, and then that player only has a limited window to make use of the power. Don't know about Endowment passing Shards along though, which is why I left it blank. I probably need stronger victory conditions, but right now I like the idea of it being Odium v Shards v Hoid, and letting Endowment recruit and refill their ranks seems like it would unbalance things. And.. I realise Hoid might seem sort of over-powered. My justification for that is that: 1) He doesn't start with those abilities, and his gaining them is entirely dependant on other people's actions. 2) I like the idea of Hoid starting out as a normal worldhopper and upgrading to become stronger 3) Hoid is the most powerful non-Shard in the cosmere. Thoughts?
  19. I just looked over the documents very quickly. I thought I was pretty good at keeping a low cover, but I was so suspected. I'm not really good at playing the game (which is why I tried to do more of the RP elements), so even though I last right to the end, credit for the victory really needs to go to Wilson, Aonar and Gammon. Cessie was very convincing at covering her trail; until I went to the Spiked thread, I didn't suspect her of it at all. I don't know about the other Spiked members, but Wes targetting us (and him and Vron naming all of us as suspects) actually had me in full-out panic mode towards the end. I was so convinced I was going to sign on and find a vote from Windy or Aether turning the tide against us; the fact that we had a lot of non-voting players did help a bit towards the end. And, since I saw Joe's comment in the thread... elaborate role-playing and trying to get discussions started was all part of my plan ; ) I mean, I was doing them before I got spiked, so I figured I had to keep them up afterwards... I actually feel a little guilty, if my roleplays seemed like I was trying to make myself seem innocent. It seems underhanded (which is the point of the game, but still...). I did try to make the ones after I was spiked a little more ambiguous in hindsight though- references to 'other thoughts' (Ruin), and I literally spiked my own character towards the end with a cane lol
  20. Yeah, congratulations to Wes and Vron. Your Coinshots and deductions had me really, really worried towards the end. I'd like to say I was soooo trustworthy that I guided votes around, but on the last day we won because we could force a deadlock. If Windy or Aether had been voting, we probably would have lost, so... Exciting game.
  21. Corruptive- the Shard that concerts players! No, not really. Honestly, I wasn't sure which post he was talking about, but I've been meaning to up vote your posts for a while. Feedback positive reinforcement, you know? ; ) I'm not quite convinced about Devotions power, but that might be because, again, right now the game idea doesn't have many sides. I do like the effect for it being some sort of a more general thing, than being a night time attack style one.
  22. Alvron, the shiny green up vote is from me, because even if you did accuse me, at least you're prompting something here with only a few hours to go. Though speaking of, I have to go myself. I probably won't be back before the die is cast, so I'm locking in a vote for Windrunner. I suspect he is active in the Coinshot role, even if he isn't posting, and in that case, taking him down would be our best move. It cuts the spiked kills down to only one, but still leaves three of us to vote down the last spiked. Even if they get one of us tonight, we should be in a better position to uncover them tomorrow if we have to. So, yes. There's my vote.
  23. I like that. It maybe sounds overpowered ("All your powers and votes are belong to me!") but since it means guessing which Wirldhopper is going to be invested to start with, it would be a lot harder to use in practice. DevotionDominion Preservation Ruin Endowment Honour Cultivation Odium We know one Shard is held by someone named Bavadin There's an unnamed Shard who Brandon says 'just wants to survive'. Obviously the numbers of Shards and Regulars will vary from game to game. I like having those multi-teams, though I worry that it might be unbalanced. Right now, there's Odium with a Shard kill shot vs everyone else. No one else can kill Shards, but that still means up to nine powered individuals working against him. Hoid being on his own also sounds like a disadvantage, though I suppose he could be this games Mistborn, rolling up a different power from the Investments each night.
  24. As I say, I'm still trying to figure out the mechanics of how it would work. I really need to pay that wiki a visit, and see the other sorts of roles they have. Thinking about it, I do rather like Honour having the Lurcher investment. It ties in with the character (giving someone surge binding) and encourages lets the player make the choice of who to help. Preservation making someone survive (or be preserved) sounds kind of appropriate to. Odium and Ruin are a bit harder to differentiate. I was thinking Odium would be the Coinshot, since Ruin doesn't go around trying to destroy shards. I suppose tearing things down could be interpreted as Soothing? Cultivation... a Tineye, maybe? Cultivating bonds between players by letting them talk to each other. Devotion... perhaps picks a person, and if they get lynched the next day, they survive? As I say, this is vague, so any ideas anyone has would be welcome. Thanks for the input Joe.
