  1. I agree. Jasnah being on the cover is a strong hint towards having her point of view for the interlude novella.
  2. WoB in answer to the #FAQFriday winning question of the week for May 16, 2017. I am not going to post the whole answer, but it can be found here. Bold added by me. As for Taln being crazy, maybe his Point of View interludes could be about him regaining his sanity and what the Sons of Honor plan to do. Even if the first few interludes were only Taln listening as Restares and Amaram plan that would be interesting. I guess we shall see. Jasnah having her own little interlude novella would be fun as well to read. Or maybe Lift, my favorite if you couldn't tell, but I think Lift will only get a few interludes here and there until she either joins the other Knights Radiants or the back five books where she gets her own book. Lift's book is likely over twenty years away. But hey she got a novella so I guess I should not complain.
  3. It is pretty crazy that the original main protagonist isn't in the first book at all until the tail end and is only a side character in the second book. In my mind, Kaladin is the lead character, followed closely by Dalinar and Shallan. That may not have been Brandon's intention when he first thought of the story but Kaladin has been dominating these books. He carried nearly half of Shallan's book and had more of a complete story arc than her. Also, he will be having Flashbacks in Dalinar's book. Tain is going to have a hard time removing Kaladin from his place in the readers' minds in the first five books. Now he might overtake Kaladin in the last five. Taln's getting a book in the back half and after book five things may change so dramatically that Tain supplanting Kaladin will feel natural. I, personally, hope it is Tain who is our main interlude point of view. Brandon did say he would make it clear whether or not Tain is a Herald soon, unlike his original plans when Tain was the main character. I'm sure he is, but Brandon has never admitted this was the case and has even tried to make people question it. November can't come soon enough.
  4. Actually, I bet it drives them crazy when they see we are right but can say nothing.
  5. Oh well. I will miss your Splintercasts. Sigh.
  6. When I saw you being quoted, first I thought "awesome." Then my second thought was "Of course she can't do a SplinterCast of 'Oathbringer' after she already read the book." Though a assume there is another reason you won't be doing any more SplinterCasts. :'(
  7. I love Brandon, but no author is perfect. I already have the book pre-ordered regardless.
  8. But is it satisfying?
  9. Are you, Ravi, the same Ravi? And if so can you give us a spoiler free review? Although, spoilers are cool too, but I assume legal reasons would prevent such.
  10. I think I would wait for the next edition, which will be more book like.
  11. Feather, no more splintercast? Noooooooooooo!. But I guess a good thing like this can't last forever. You were like the cosmer friend I don't have at home because I can't get anyone around me to read Brandon's books. Well at least I still have the forums here. Loved your comments. I learned something about the old man in this episode that I did not realize before, even though I have listened to Edgedancer several times already. These will be missed. :'(
  12. I'm surprised there isn't more discussion on these chapters. They were really good and it was interesting to see young, brutal Dalinar. It tells us much about the Aletha culture that Dalinar's fame as the Blackthorn is what he was honored most for, and not just because of PR after Galivar won the crown. Sadeas and Galivar knew the monster Dalinar was and used him to subdue their enemies. After reading this chapter Sadeas and Dalinar's relationship is cast in a very different light. It's also interesting to see Sadeas, Galivar, Navani and Ialai in those chapters. Also to learn about Evi. I hopefully assume this is only the beginning is a very interest story. I was not disappointed by Dalinar in these chapters. The Way of Kings hints that this is who the Blackthorn had once been. It makes Dalinar even more intriguing. A man who started as he did, and was praised for those actions, changed so much over the next twenty years into the man we know and love now because he loved his brother. Waiting for Oathbringer will be hard. I wish In knew how to become a beta reader for Tor.
  13. Heleran didn't borrow the blade. Shallan saw it appear in his hand. That could only happen if he was bonded to it.
  14. No. WOR Kaladin identified the blade as the one he won. And Shallan identified it as the one her brother Heleran owned.
  15. Excellent point. I do think it was Heleran, but maybe someelse killed him and took his Shardblade. Anything is possible at this point.
  16. Well, as Shallan said, yay for originality.
  17. Not necessarily, but it is open to interpretation. I don't believe Heleran is the only one she helped Kaladin kill before he was enslaved or even after that, but before she became fully aware. It's not clearly stated so she could just be referring to her time with Kaladin.
  18. True. However there is no way to know for sure. We shall see.
  19. Her memory isn't prefect and Kaladin killed more than just Heleran that day. I'm sure she helped him other times too. We will just have to wait and see.
  20. Actually, I was thinking she was referring to helping Kaladin kill Heleran. Cenn mentions seeing a warping of air around Kaladin when he rescued him from enemy soldiers. Syl also said it was Kaladin saving the young men of his spearmen squad that drew her to him in the first place. Kaladin just didn't notice her until later.
  21. I acquiesce to most of what you say, but we have no evidence that Syl ever bonded with another human. We know Pattern did not from his conversations with Shallan. It is possible Kaladan is the only person Syl has ever bonded with. Thanks everyone for answering my question.
  22. Fair point about the lack of glowing shards. So Taravangian was likely wrong. Still, I'm going to grasp at straws. You need stormlight to heal and surgebinders are not immortal. If Heleran didn't want to be noticed he might not have gone to battle with a lot of stormlight. Kaladin avoided carrying too much light until the end of WOR. Heleran may not have expected to fight someone so skilled. Then he gets stabbed in the head and he didn't have time to draw in stormlight to save himself. It is a stretch. It goes to show Taravangian doesn't know as much as he thinks he does. Oh well.
  23. Shallan recognized the sword, so we can assume that sword was the only one he had. It is possible that Heleran wasn't a surgebinder, but Taravangian's conversation highly implys that he was. Maybe Taravangian was wrong, but assuming he was right it does lead to an interesting question. Has Brandon ever said what happens to a spren when it's surgebinder dies?
  24. I've been reading through WOR again and a question crossed my mind. We know spren die when their knight betrays their oath, but what happens to the spren when their knight dies? I thought that maybe they just went back to the cognitive realm. However Helaran's/Amaram's blade suggests this is not the case. Taravangian's chapter states that Helaran was a surgebinder. If this is so, clearly he kept his oaths until he died. His blade is still around and bound to someone else so it is a dead spren. Was it dead before Kaladin killed Helaran? No wonder Pattern says Shallan will kill him. It appears joining a surgerbinder is a death sentence. When Kaladin and Shallan die will Sil and Pattern be lifeless blades? Did Kaladin kill Helaran's spren? What do you think?
  25. Trell is mentioned by Saied in Mistborn the Final Empire. Trellism (I forgot the precise name of the religion) is the first religion Saied suggests Vin convert to, during the scene where she gets her hair cut. So before The Final Empire crushed all other religions there were followers of Trell on the Mistborn planet. Trell therefore must be based on a real god of the cosmere.
