  1. A propos Rayse, I was somewhat surprised when I read that he was trapped in the Greater Roshar system. I wonder how that was accomplished!
  2. You might be right, but in my opinion, it looks closer to Paliah's than Kalak's. Though at first glance, I thought it was rather Nale's, so what do I know.
  3. Great! We've had his year of birth since the Way of Kings, so I assume there should be a specific reference to his age there as too, but this'll work just as well. +1
  4. Welcome to the 17th Shard, Citizen! Permit me to give you your first up-vote ever for honouring my rambling Thread with your first post ever. I think Renarin be able to weave Light and Sound just as Shallan can, but it might not manifest in quite the same way, id est he might not have to draw everything before he can produce proper illusions. We have WoB that the shared Surges are mostly the same between Orders: His Illusions might not be as strong or vivid as those Shallan are able to produce, but I'd wager that he is, as a Truthwatcher, able to use them to foretell the future as well. Even so, Shallan manifests a similarly esoteric ability (as if it magical illusions were not esosoteric enough to begin with). She seems to be able to use her drawing to scry what is happening around the world. At one point, she makes a drawing of Baxil's Mistress destroying what I believe was a statue, and she draws Yalb and another unnamed person getting up on a beach somewhere, hinting that not all of the Sailors of the Wind's Pleasure would have succumbed.
  5. Wait, what now? Only the Skybreakers - who also have access to the Gravity surge - are noted as attending the same event, and the location is never mentioned. The only other passage from the same chapter of "the Words of Radiance" talks about the Skybreakers' strangely excellent debating skills. Of course, it might be taking place in Urithiru, and other Orders might be present as well, but we don't really have any inkling either way.
  6. Permitting myself to double post just to keep the list of what I need help with separate from the list of findings. . Davar, Shallan: Kaladin: Kholin, Dalinar: Sadeas, Torol: Does anyone remember how we were able to place Sadeas' birth in year 1123 in the first place? Looking back through my notes, I can't seem to be able to find it, and it's not referenced on the Coppermind. EDIT: Added Sadeas. Thanks Weiry. Decided to use this post to gather all information about the characters specific ages. Added Shallan and Dalinar.
  7. I fail to see to see the grounds for that. Yes, it was probably a big event, but there is nothing that implies that they had to have come from far away. Remember, even if they couldn't just lash their Squires around, that the world was a considerably smaller place back then, with access to Oathgates.
  8. Thanks! That was exactly what I was looking for!
  9. I updated the List with references from EMTrevor. I did not notice any other references to it during y read-through, so the exact nature of the box (other than it's calming effect on Renarin) still escapes us. I shall keep an eye out for it in the Way of Kings when I eventually reread that one too, to see if there is anything there to add to this.
  10. I have updated my List for the end of the Words of Radiance (though minor tweaks are incoming). I have included another minor list with hints at their exact ages, but there isn't much to go on at all. But with the Words of Radiance given us a time-frame with exact dates, I feel like it should be easy to include even more characters with their ages and respective year of births, but I didn't spot anything new during my reread, or at least not anything that I remembered to write down. The new characters I feel like we should be able to include, though, are as follows: Eshonai Moash Dalinar (I am sure I remember him referencing his age at some point) Navani Ialai The rest of the Davars (I skipped all of the flashback chapters. I'll read them tomorrow and see if I can't find anything referencing the age differences between the siblings.
  11. That's cool! Cross-referencing the dates with the dates with Highstorms (counting back form Lightday) confirms it, and it more or less gives us the exact date of the start of WoR. Turns out that Kaladin's "one week at the job" was slightly more than 5 days. But I am tempted to suggest that the exact date is less certain than you seem to imply: This extract makes it evident that the events on the Plains happened on the same day that Kaladin got his freedom and his promotion. There is nothing in chapter 77: "In the Top Room" to indicate that a day has passed. The question then, is whether the Highstorm happened in the evening of Tanatashah [1173-09-06-5], making this the date of the Battle at the Tower; or very, very early in the morning (id est in the middle of the night), placing the battle at Tanatashev [1173-09-06-04], technically the day before. Given that the riddens are still ongoing the morning after, I am leaning towards the latter option (as seems to be the consensus here), but I am by no means certain. I suppose it would be possible to find an answer if we know how long a Highstorm is supposed to last, but I do not remember any references to its exact length. Did you guys and gals find the answer to this conundrum, or did you just make an educated guess? Do we have a WoB on this?
  12. Permit me to revisit this topic just to say I told you so: I told you so!
  13. The Blackthorn in him would have, but not the Nohadon. I also feel like it would be at odds with his newly proclaimed Oath.
  14. I think the more correct interpretation of that quote is that they had to use less Spheres for each lamp, so that they would have enough to light up the living quarters as well as enough to use for exploring and to work the Oathgate.
  15. Pardon me to tooting my own horn, but in case anyone's interested, here's a List of the currently known Shardworlds and their respective Shards (or lack thereof).
  16. I have some trouble downloading it for myself, so I'll take your ward for it. My List shall be updated accordingly.
  17. Feather's explanation makes a lot of sense, but I'm not quite ready to lay this topic to rest quite yet. I still want to know what kind of box it is, so I'll continue to List every reference to it that I find. The suggestion that it is a memento from his mother is a good one, though. Someone on another Thread suggested that it might have been Pattern she noticed, though I suppose it could just as well been his Spren she noticed. EDIT: O_o, EMTrevor, thanks! I'll include those references in my List as well.
  18. The new technology bit is about the fabrial. I merely included that bit to make it a full sentence. The reference to the box doesn't really add anything new about it, but I said I would include all references, and I am nothing if not meticulous.
  19. I don't think I've seen any discussion on this yet, so permit me to be (possibly) the first one to ask: what's the deal with Renarin's box? I can't remember reading anything of this box in the Way of Kings, but he seems quite preoccupied with it at several points in the Words of Radiance. We have WoB that it is not his Spren (though that wouldn't have been my first guess anyway). I don't think it would have something to do with his (past) medical condition either, as it would seem strange to be so taken by it. I thought it might have been the casing for his spectacles, and that he's developed a nervous habit of opening and closing it, but the descriptions of it doesn't seem to fit with that either. So, any suggestions? During my reread, I'll put in all references to the box in this post to help shed light on this: On a side note, I am slightly disappointed that Renarin turned out to be a Truthwatcher, if only because we won't be able to see him blow up stuff. EDIT: Included references from EMTrevor. I did not notice anything else on my read-through.
  20. I took a look at it, and it does seem like he might have been thinking of Threnody. I'll just leave the number of Shards as "unknown" for now.
  21. Could someone please point me in the direction of the WoB on Ashyn being shardless? I want the original source for my List over Cosmere planets.
  22. It's "Greatshells all the way down!"
  23. Which was the idea I was going for. I wasn't suggesting that Sadeas should not have been killed because of his wives assassins, just that his death alone doesn't really change anything when it comes to that specifically.
  24. Someone claimed on another Thread that the Rosharan continent is slowly turning into a gargantuan Aon. While this might have been a joke, could there in fact be something to it? Has we considered that the shape of Roshar, either its original one or the one it is slowly turning into, is intentional?
  25. I tend to agree with this notion, but I don't think killing Torol solves the problem of his wife's assassins at all. If anything, she might be more likely to use them more openly or wantonly now, either to find out who killed him, to exact revenge or to enact their shared goals.
