  1. Love the comic That last time is significant though. David gave him information, information he seems to have been searching for. It's possible this 'revelation' might be enough to change Obliteration's MO slightly. After all, while his overall mission seems to be pretty inflexible and uncompromising at this point, Obliteration has shown himself to be adaptive, meaning his methods can be subject to change.
  2. Brandon also said that at this point in time, Obliteration was traveling around a lot. We should keep in mind that his motives seem to change and develop over time. He started by ruling Houston, then he destroyed it, then he jumped around a bunch, and now he seems to be more focused than ever on ending the world. So a good question to ask might be why was he moving around during this period, and what brings him to Oregon? Maybe there was a time when, viewing epics as the Horseman of the Apocalypse, he sought to get an army of them together to cleanse the land. Then, places like Oregon taught him that you cannot depend on other Epics, and that he must carry out his mission mostly alone. The chances of Brandon sharing a weakness is pretty low, especially given the high probability Obliteration will show up again in Calamity. I agree that slipping Obliteration in as an NPC is in everyone's best interests, given the gaps in our knowledge.
  3. It depends on the servants, and the epic they serve. Servants in the service of high up epics have been kept constantly happy, and have had their histories altered more often. They are more likely to feel like this is just a bad week that will pass and then they can go back to being happy. The lower you go down the chain, the less frequent happiness doses were. While these servants will still have happy memories, they might have periods here and there were a few days were left unaltered. The other factor to consider is the epic in charge. Some epics may command enough fear and respect out of their servants that they will be able to maintain control. Basically, it depends. On the point about rendings and how epics act after, Firefight has confused me in this area. In the picture of them as a 'super team' or whatever, it shows Regalia using her powers (on a much smaller scale), and we know that Prof had powers at the time, and came back from them. At that time, they were presumably uncorrupted (or rather, less corrupted), and yet they had also likely already gone on their Rendings, since that seems to be a thing that happens as soon as you gain your powers. What if Rendings happen when you start USING (or overusing) your powers? I haven't fact checked that, but it's a thought. Regardless, with Prof and Regalia (and Murkwood I guess), we have evidence that some time after gaining their powers (whether before or after their Rendings), epics can remain themselves. I'm also curious about what Rendings look like for non-offensive epic powers (like Euphoria's). Like, how much would the corruption control her? Would she be walking around giving out happiness willy-nilly, or would the corruption of her Rending force her to give it out strategically to bend people to her will? Thoughts? EDIT: Third page in a row for started by yours truly. I'm on a roll!
  4. A little prettier than I pictured Shallan (her face is more distinctive in my mind), but the piece as a whole is gorgeous. Shallan's a favorite character of mine, and I think you've done a great job with her here. It would be nice to see her in a more active pose, so I hope you keep painting more of her .
  5. Since Nighthound is in Portland, that's kind of out of reach, haha. In other news, I finished reading Astoria, so now I'm caught up in every thread but the 45+ page monster that is Portland. I'll do a detailed power-set in a bit, but for now, he has an intentional (as in not automatic) PI, other defensive abilities, not much offense, but some. He's an intrigue and spying on people type of character. I think he could survive well in any of the threads I've read, but I'd prefer to put him somewhere other than Corvallis, since I already have enough stuff going on there. So, the explosion she reincarnates must in an explosion caused by something else? What is her reincarnation range? What happens if there are no explosions? The bullets could just stop when they hit her skin automatically, as she absorbs the energy from them as soon as they hit.
  6. I may or may not have a new epic idea... Any suggestions on where I should put him??
  7. Fun Corvallis facts that I'm learning from reading their wikipedia page: Was briefly the capital of the Oregon territory before Salem was chosen for the government seat. Benton County, the population of which is mostly Corvallis citizens, is the least religious county per capita in the States. In 2008, it was ranked 48th best place to live in the United States, and was ranked the second highest in Oregon (only behind Portland which was in 6th place). Part of the Tree City USA program, and has 47 parks. Has a higher education rate than any other city in Oregon (likely due to the University). The Van Buren bridge, which makes a cameo in the prologue, is the third oldest bridge crossing the Willamette River. Corvallis is among the top cities in the nation in terms of buying electricity produced from renewable resources. Research is sooo addicting. I was googling schools in the district earlier for a flash back scene . I think Euphoria might be fluent in Spanish.
  8. Rainmaker turned to greet Chase, unsurprised that she had been the first of the Queen's to arrive. With the number of tagged Vanillas in the city, Chase could travel anywhere in Corvallis in an instant. With this in mind, part of Rainmaker couldn't help but be annoyed that Chase had not reached her sooner. She supposed the blame would have to be borne by the whichever messenger had been sent to track Chase down. With Euphoria gone, Chase would be the key to keeping the Vanilla population under control, as well as keeping Rainmaker informed of all the goings on in the city. Blaming the messenger was a much safer option, especially since it had probably been their fault anyways. "No apologies are necessary, Chase darling." Rainmaker made a curt gesture and the rest of her servants and guards turned and left the room. With Euphoria around, she hadn't needed to worry about her slaves passing her secrets to others, but without Euphoria's influence, Rainmaker thought it best if she kept the meeting with the Queens private. "I'm certain it was my messenger's fault. These Vanillas really are useless, aren't they? Probably got lost along the way, or some other ridiculous excuse. I'll have his or her ration... I mean I'll see to it that whoever is responsible is punished." Rainmaker mentally cursed herself for the slip. She had grown too accustomed to using Euphoria's power, and the threat of withholding it, to control the people around her. It had just been so easy to keep all of those happy people under control, especially when it was so easy to threaten to take that happiness away. Rainmaker had become lazy, depending too much on Euphoria to control the city. If she was going to maintain her position, she would have to find more creative ways to punish people without killing or permanently damaging them. "While we're alone, I don't suppose you have any information for me? Is there anything your Chains can tell you about Euphoria's movements, or who might have visited her residence?"
  9. I'd tell you about Euphoria's back-story, but that would involve spoilers... Doesn't stop me from world-building it though. Now to wait until a time comes when I can slip it in...
  10. I was going for a "Killer Smile" meets "I'm literally going to smile while I kill you" kind of thing. Glad it worked
  11. Sooo, because I evidently feel making ponies is more important than studying, here you go: Euphoria: Rainmaker: Also I LOVE the Powerpuffs! They look GREAT! Question: Does Rainmaker know their weaknesses? It's fine if she doesn't (it might be better that way), but I was just curious.
  12. I definitely agree that she'd fit in, but for some reason I feel like she and Rainmaker might butt heads... which would, of course, be fantastic.
  13. Definitely not whiny! I'm sure many of us can relate. I'm not sure if you are writing her for advice, or just for affirmation, so I'll offer both and you can choose what you need (warning: affirmation is admittedly a little cheesy, and perhaps over the top. Click at your own risk). Affirmation: Advice: Don't worry too much about keeping your cool. You're among nerds here
  14. You are correct about the light point. I will keep that in mind in future posts. For now, I'll just hand-wave and say it makes sense. I edited the scene at the bridge, and Euphoria's chase scene can occur in early night / late dusk type lighting in our headcanons. Good luck with the post! I'm excited to see it. On Converter - I really think I need a clarification of exactly WHAT her powers are. There seems to be several different versions of her floating around, and I don't feel clear at all on what she can and can't do. Actually, a new powerset accompanied by a list of "can do's" and can't do's" would be very helpful. Again, I feel like I need a better description of her powers and their limits. I am VERY confused.
  15. The diversity of the shard's intents, to me, seems to indicate that they are morally neutral when combined, but that could be an unsubstantiated assumption on my part. Like natc said though, the question isn't really what IS evil, but what Nightblood perceives to be evil. I like the linguistic analysis, and the play on the words "consume" and "destroy". Both words, you will notice, fit with Ruin's MO, and he is essentially the shard most closely associated with destruction. Perhaps the evil (or what Nightblood sees as evil) is not investiture itself, but how it is being used or what form it takes? Maybe the brokenness of Adonalsium is seen as evil (at least by Nightblood), rather than Adonalsium itself. Very interesting way of thinking of things.
  16. Yes please! Hmmm, tough one. At least a year, but not more than two maybe?
  17. I hope I'm not necro-posting, but I found something in an old Q&A that fits with this discussion. When asked about the black metallic lake, Brandon says: [source] We theorized (read: I talked people's ears off) a lot about the Black Lake back in the day, so I'm surprised this never occurred to me before. Brandon says the lake was around in Vin's era, but underground, and that it is similar to the Well of Ascension (the other pool or 'manifestation' he mentions is the pool in Elantris). What if the Black Lake moving underground was it becoming the Pits of Hathsin? We know the geodes form by condensation, right? This would mean that the Black Lake and the pits are the same, so for there to be a Preservation version of the pits, the Well would have to be changed to form geodes like Ruin's lake was. Both the lake and atium are confirmed to be Ruin's physical component, just as lerasium and the Well are for Preservation (I think it's WOB'd somewhere that the Well and Lerasium are in fact the same metal in different states). I wonder what liquid atium would do. We know that the mists, the Well, and Lerasium all do different things, despite being the same thing in different states, but we know very little about liquid and gaseous atium and what effects they would have. Lord Ruler, Alendi! Why didn't you let Fedik sample those waters!!!!???
  18. I still want him to run into T-Swift . Perhaps he is listening to one of her songs when he walks by, and she can't help but reveal herself to bask in the praise of a potential fan .
  19. The line in context says: As you can see, the atium minds were explicitly NOT burned for allomancy. Earlier on the same page, Vin mentions Kelsier left them only six beads, and it was those that she was burning. The bracers were definitely sold. I'm not entirely sure I'm reading your comment correctly, so feel free to clarify, but there's no way the bracers were burned. This quote is important though. Earlier, it mentions the atium that "made up" the bracers, but then later it says they "actually contained only a very small bit". Either the bracers were small and entirely made out of atium, or they were made of more than one metal, which has interesting connotations. Personally, I think they were just atium. The words "made up" seem to indicate this, as does the fact that they sold the bracers as a whole instead of separating out the different metals. This also means that (unsurprisingly) Brandon has been planning something Bands of Mourning-ish since WoA, which is pretty cool.
  20. Okay, so the damage would be limited to the size of a person? If that's the case she could appear pretty much anywhere. As for timing, she can appear any time, but you will mostly be interacting with NPCs until Rainmaker is ready (unless Edge would want Kenshin to be sent out with a retrieval team?). If the explosion is big enough to cause a ruckus and draw Rainmaker out immediately, then I would prefer for the Queens to meet first, so we have a chance to meet each of them, and get a feel for their dynamic.
  21. How big? It could also happen out in the fields, which are included under the shield.
  22. I would definitely be open to Obliteration taking a trip to Corvallis at some point. It would certainly make Rainmaker eat her words to Euphoria (I would also like to note that I wrote that before reading about Obliteration in the question thread. Happy coincidence eh?) As for Rainmaker's reaction, she definitely wouldn't welcome Obliteration coming to Corvallis, as she'd be VERY threatened by him. Once he was there, she might try to manipulate him or otherwise turn the situation to her advantage, such as pretending they are working together to select others to scare them into obedience, or using him as a common enemy to unite her enemies. EDIT: I should specify that I was only meaning to comment on the potential Corvallis plotline, and not offering or requesting to write for Obliteration. I would much rather someone else do that, and I haven't been here as long as you guys have anyways.
  23. She might not deal with it herself, but she would probably get one of the other characters to help figure out the new epic's powers, and then figure out how they could be of use to the city. In Converter's case, once people figure out what she can do she'll most likely be taken to Rainmaker directly. Right now, Rainmaker has called a meeting of the Queen, so Converter would probably be held until Rainmaker would have time to meet her and decide what to do about her. As things stand in the city now, Rainmaker probably wouldn't be adverse to having an Epic of that kind of power ready to set on the city if things go south.
  24. Wooo, lots to catch up on. You guys have had an eventful morning. Not sure what you mean by explorations, but it's open for characters, as long as they are RP ready, either as existing residents or immigrants. On Converter, her powerset is incredibly dangerous. I can definitely think of reasons for Rainmaker to keep her around (Converter + Lightning = renewable energy source anyone), but she would be worried about the whole death explosion thing, so she'd probably keep a VERY close eye on her, and not giver her much freedom. As long as you are okay with that, I think she'd be welcome in Corvallis. Rainmaker's light shines brightly, but she's small (nowhere near sun or star sized) so if she's on the other side of the city, especially at ground level, and has clouded over the sky, it's still gonna be pretty dark. I did not take Calamity into account though. I'll have to reread some of Steelheart and figure out how that plays into things. For now, just assume they have reasons to be trained to fight in the dark, but they weren't necessarily using those skills at the moment (come to think of it, they wouldn't be anyways, or at least not until Rainmaker left). Decoy wasn't gifting her healing ability, she was using her other power. She has the power to make a link with another person, then all the damage they suffer is transferred to her instead, and she is able to heal it (usually). So the link she established with Euphoria protected Euphoria by transferring the damage Euphoria would have suffered to Decoy. I didn't put too much more thought than that into it (since she was being killed off), but let me know if any edits need doing. In general, I think I'm fine with people rating their own epics in terms of power and usefulness, and deciding what kinds of residences and servant numbers are appropriate (otherwise I can already see myself getting inundated with these sorts of questions). As long as you find a way to justify it in your head, and it isn't too outlandish, (like 100 servants and a castle for an epic who has the power to pop balloons), then it should be fine. I'm fine with being consulted, and will step in if I feel something is unreasonable, but I'm also fine with people taking initiative and doing their own world building. For Kenshin, she has a pretty useful combat power, so off the top of my head I'm guessing somewhere mid-level for home and number of servants. Let if me know if that sounds right for you. And she can absolutely be in that group of immigrants from the prologue. I would love to see what other characters thought of that scene. Absolutely! PM me or ask here if you have any questions! The tier system is not based on power level or social rank, but on value to the city. So the Queens are tier (1 or A, I can't remember which I used off hand), and I haven't worked it out beyond that. Rainmaker, obviously, is tierless, and not because crying smudges her make-up (lol). Anyways, I think I got every point that was directed at me. Repost or otherwise let me know if I missed any!
  25. Ugh, now I just want to write more Euphoria viewpoints. She was so much fun . Soooo... what are the chances of Backtrack ending up in Corvallis, and if there is a chance, how soon can it happen? Alternatively, does anyone else have some ideas of how I can slip some Euphoria viewpoints and/or flashbacks in? Also, scary thought: Rainmaker + Obliteration = Unlimited Enhanced Sunlight + Boom!
