  1. Perhaps it gets too close to something he wants to do with Calamity? Maybe you are on to something and he doesn't want to give anything away.
  2. Hurray for a new Question Thread! I can't imagine what would have happened if there was no Reckoners Sub-Forum. The RP section would have been awash with endless Questions. Anyways, Silver and Blaze, I thought I would link my previous discussion of the restraints here, just in case you missed it in the old Question thread. I make a few more comments a few posts lower on the page as well, but they were mostly extraneous. In other news, Comatose has officially made a Reddit account and asked his first AMA question. I hope I'm not too late, haha.
  3. I also just started researching this stuff called Ultra Rope that they use in high rise elevators that could be an effective restraint. They need this stuff for strength epics, after all. EDIT: Unless, Rainmaker has been trading with Lucentia for a diamond industrial chain to plant. What's the possibility of a Corvallis/Astoria trade convoy?
  4. Ideally, I would love to say that the restraints are chains made of Tungsten with a Carbon-fiber-reinforced polymer coating (after doing some wikipedia searches. What I'm unsure of is if Rainmaker would have something like this growing in Corvallis. On one hand, this is a land with epics, so it might make sense to have restraints like this available. On the other hand, maybe it is too specific to Converter. If we did go this route, the Tungsten has a melting point of 3410 degress Celsius, so it would give Converter some time to sit while she waits to store up enough heat to melt it (which will take some time, since Rainmaker is going to keep the area around her VERY cold). The carbon fiber coating would be non conductive, and prevent her from electrocuting anyone who is touching it, and it also provides another heat resistant layer for Converter to work through. You know what, let's just say the chains are Tungsten, and be done with it. With resistor there, they should be able to not be electrocuted hopefully, and then we don't run into plausibility problems. From here, Converter will (hopefully) be trapped, and then someone one (either Phoenix, Iconoclast, or Insight) can release her. Personally, I think Insight would have the easiest time of it, since he could approach invisible, move through the winds Rainmaker will have blowing outwards all around Converter, and just phase Converter through. Perhaps he could approach one of the other two and be like. "I'm going to free Converter, so you can team up with her and cause chaos" since I don't think he necessarily would want to be around Converter once she is free. Also, you can assume that Rainmaker momentarily weakened the winds in the exact spot where they are moving through, since she wouldn't want to risk them tripping. Since they had the weights, and would be used to her powers, she wouldn't take them away, but the spot they are entering would be slightly weaker. Just to be clear, and to set the scene, what I'm picturing now is winds pressing in on all sides in a wide ring around (but not touching) Converter. Behind Converter, is the remains of one of the hail stones, which Converter was pressed against in her last post. There's also likely large chunks of ice around Converter. Does this sound good to you, Silver?
  5. So, how would everyone feel about making one small addition to Soulcaster's astral plane? What if, every one's astral form just happened to be ponies?
  6. I would love for this to happen, but it depends on how fast we can wrap things up with Converter. Silver has been kind of busy lately it seems, so unless there's all of a sudden time to get the Converter situation wrapped up, Rainmaker won't be free to post with Hypno. We could potentially do a collab in a google doc or something, and I could post it. I don't have a lot of blocks of free time though, since I have five articling job interviews this week, and a firm reception. If you like this option, I could start a google doc and get things going, and then we can see how far we get.
  7. That should be okay. Hopefully we can get to the point where Rainmaker and Hypnos scene can happen before you get back. I'll get things prepared as much as possible. VM is in contact with me. Inhuman can be added in after the Converter fight is done. Sorry for the short post. My internet is down so I am on my phone. I can respond to this more comprehensively later of this is not sufficient.
  8. I haven't read the Questions from before I joined (though I have page through some), and I haven't gone through all of the epic profiles in the Epics of Oregon thread. Since I've joined, I have read every page of every question thread though, and I've read a good amount of Epic Profiles. For plot threads, I've read all of The Dalles, Astoria, and Corvallis. I have not read the OOC or Calamityville threads, and have only read the last few pages and first few pages of Portland, but have been keeping up with Portland since I got here. I AM someone who likes to read most things, so I might get around to reading all of Portland eventually, but given its length, it might take some time for me to get around to it. I HAVE read almost every thread on MBI. Does that count for anything?
  9. Yeah, Brandon is under arrest (I think?) and not really likely to approach strangers at the moment, and Taylor is chatting with Glamour, so I'm out too.
  10. No worries! I was just making sure. As long as we get that part done before moving on to the next day, personally I am in no hurry.
  11. It could also be a way to plot how to take out an enemy epic. You challenge them to a battle in the astral plane, and try to get a feel for their powers and weak points, so that when you ambush them in real life, you are prepared for some of their hidden powers. It would also save some of our other threads from being flooded by characters who really are just itching to fight, and hopefully allow those fights to happen without having to work around too much plot, and the other plot lines to proceed without being interrupted with an overload of fight scenes. I think Inhuman was possibly going to be a head of intelligence, or at least prominent in the field, but that was never worked out entirely with Venture Mistborn. I guess Jumpdrive could also be working under Buttercup, and we can fit Inhuman in as a head of field intelligence or something? Venture Mistborn, what do you think? There's also a short Rainmaker and Hypno scene I'd like to do once this fight is wrapped up, but since Mailliw and I are both online fairly often, I don't think it will take too long. EDIT: There's also the Taylor/Glamour interaction. Kobold, if you have are having trouble with posts with this one, I'm fine with just agreeing here what the rest of the interaction looks like, and then not showing it on screen, if we'd rather not slow down the day transfer. I just need to know what happens so that I know where to start with Taylor in Day 2.
  12. Why is this not a setting yet? An epic fighting ring (likely run by a more powerful epic forcing less powerful ones or paying them to fight) could be a great setting, especially for people who are less interested in plot and mostly just want to write about epic battles. Don't get me wrong, the marital idea is fun too... I guess.
  13. Firefight Spoilers:
  14. The two could also be unrelated in origin. Perhaps she feared seeming foolish, but wanted to become a judge for other reasons, and then her position intensifies her original fear by raising the stakes.
  15. Keep in mind that Regalia was a judge with a pretty high profile. Being wrong in her position could have more traumatic or scarring effects than one might think. That being said, I think that trauma is not necessary to be motivated by fear in all cases, so maybe it is just tied to her personality.
  16. Those would be the numbers for the epics born in those respective towns. As others have already said, I think we're fine as long as we assume some migration has occurred . Perhaps Oregon is the Fractured States' version of the old west for new epics, a land of opportunity with no dominant ruler, where it is easier to rise through the ranks as epics kill and die. Since Brandon overtly says that turf wars destroyed Oregon, it's probably fine to assume a higher concentration of epics ended up there for some reason or another. The parallels between Luna's transformation into Nightmare Moon and Calamity's raising of epics are actually quite striking. She even took a new name and everything. A very interesting cross-over idea indeed... I think as a whole, the mane six would be immune to Calamity, because of their bond with the elements , and because they've helped each other face their worst fears dozens of times now. Other ponies would not be so lucky. My guess is Trixie becomes an epic for sure, and perhaps Starlight Glimmer? Both of them seem to be fairly motivated by fear (Trixie by a fear of not being noticed/recognized, not sure about Starlight yet, but hopefully we learn more about her character). I would love to see Twilight and company have to take down Epic - Powered versions of either of these rivals... EDIT: I don't know about you guys, but this looks like a rending scene to me. Notice how Luna's first move is "to destroy" the person who knows her best? Also, I find the fact that she is surrounded by a red light during her transformation very suspicious... MLP Spoilers:
  17. Rainmaker allowed the thrown hail stone to pass through her as she shifted in and out of her cloud form, ignoring it for the annoyance it was. She had noticed the epic react to the pain as she was knocked back into one of the remaining hail stones. So she can be harmed. Why the slam against the ice had succeeded where her falling hailstones had failed, Rainmaker could not tell, but any sign of weakness from her foe was a good sign. Rainmaker watched the epic carefully, reading to adjust her winds if needed to keep the epic in place. "Move in with the restraints. Cornucopia, keep an eye out for signs of trouble, and try to restrain her if she attacks. If you can pin her down even for a moment with your plants, it may give Buttercup's men an opportunity to get the restraints on."
  18. Looks good to me! Thanks for getting those edits in so quickly!
  19. Okay, I'll wait for your edit then. She'd have to use a lot of energy to push it at Rainmaker, since she'd be shooting a huge hailstone upwards and against wind, but I guess with the wind there to help her recharge, she can afford to do that. As for Inhuman, since we are still figuring out whether that post is staying or not, just ignore him for now, and pretend Converter is distracted by all the giant hailstones and Rainmaker. It would be understandable that she doesn't see every little thing, and even if Inhuman does stay present, aside from his fight with the Laser Epic (which will likely be edited out), he doesn't do much to draw attention to himself.
  20. Hey Silver, Sorry to bother you again, but I found a few inconsistencies. Feel free to just tell me how you are going to correct them here or in PM, and then I can post as if the corrections have been made, and you can wait until it is convenient to do the actual corrections. Firstly, I think you missed this, since there is no mention of it in the Converter post: Rainmaker dropped the hail stones after the truck dropped. I'll need Converter's response to the hailstones before deciding on Rainmaker's next action. Secondly, there were a couple of issues with Inhuman's post (including the presence of vanillas, and the addition of 'Laser Dude'). For now, I think we were going to retcon that post, and let Inhuman enter the RP once this fight is wrapped up (Venture Mistborn, feel free to correct me if I am wrong about this). Regardless, I couldn't find a place where an epic pushed in front of Icy Hot and Resistor (Inhuman does not do this) so I'm confused about who Converter is referring to in the last paragraph. The sequence of events is getting confusing for me as well, so its totally understandable that there are some issues. For now, Rainmaker's hailstones fall before Inhuman arrives, but after the truck is dropped, so I think you can just assume that Converter's vision is being blocked and she is not aware of what is going on outside. For clarity, the hailstones should cut her off from the wind energy. She can continue to absorb the energy from the wind until the hailstones are dropped, and the kinetic energy from the hailstones once they land (at least from the top one anyways, the sides might land without hitting her), but after that it would be difficult for her to see what is going on outside, unless she melts the stones. Other than that, I think the only thing Rainmaker is doing is altering the air temperature to be very cold. Hope that helps, let me know if you have any questions, and again, feel free just to PM or post what you intend to edit, so that the thread can proceed, and then edit at your leisure.
  21. I'm open to suggestions, haha. After watching the video again, I'm thinking it would be fun to use some of those as Epic names. For some reason I find Destructa X, Catastrophe, and Arsyn to be especially amusing. For the last one, I think it's because originally I was reading it as "Aspryn" which would have been even more hilarious. I have a weird sense of humour. To change topic, now that I'm caught up on MLP, and can no longer watch on Netflix, where do you folks watch it, and would you happen to know a good place to find it online?
  22. Fair enough, haha. I was more picturing the stuff (including houses) spilling out. There's enough momentum to stop them from falling back on her, but not enough to "shoot them". I will acknowledge however that the house thing or water thing could be quite destructive regardless. In other news, I want to recreate the first minute of this video (or perhaps the whole video really) in the Dalles. Because why not, haha.
  23. I think she's someone who earlier in life was quite oppressed, and now she has become quite uncompromising in getting what she wants. She isn't super interested in building up power structures, and prefers to tear existing ones down. I think many of her actions are motivated by selfishness, so she wouldn't be above sacrificing a particular goal or ambition in favour of personal gain. She cares little for others (she's an epic using her powers so that's obvious), but she dislikes watching others abuse their power, and likes opportunities to take people down a peg. I think originally she was actually quite a compassionate and principled person, and this urge to 'teach epics a lesson' is kind of the last vestige of that, the main difference being now she doesn't care about the people who are suffering the effects of the abuse of power, or about the effects her challenging existing power structures have. Like all epics, she is motivated by fear at her core, but I think that she's distanced herself from her fear so much that she seems quite fearless. I'm also thinking of adding a bit to her power, just to give her some more leverage. I'm thinking that if she chooses, and if she returns to the spot she absorbed things from, she can return them to their original position, but her default would still be just to spill it all out in her immediate vicinity. This means that while she can be quite destructive to property, she doesn't have to be, so some might bargain with her at for the convenience of not having piles and piles of resources gathered around uselessly. I kind of like the idea that despite the fact that her power is incredibly destructive, she does not actually have much offensive power for fighting other epics, or the ability to defend herself, except by actively stealing people's weapons or equipment. I'm sure she can find ways to use her power offensively by preventing others from getting close, or stealing things like helicopters while people are flying in them, but there's not much she can do to combat many offensive or defensive epic capabilities.
  24. I'd have to think about that. She probably wouldn't be too offended, since she obviously would still think her country music was great. It would depend how he phrased I guess. If he was merely saying her country music was amazing, then that would be okay. If he was implying her pop music was terrible, then she might get angry. As for Monopoly, I hadn't thought of the whole her not breathing thing would be a simple and effective way of stopping her from just stealing all the oxygen, so if no one thinks she is too over-powered, then I might leave her as is. Still debating the PI thing. Any suggestions for which plot she would fit into the best? Everywhere seems to be pretty busy at the moment. My instinct is Astoria, but I know a huge battle just happened there.
