  1. Guys I dont think you lash yourself to an object, I think you lash yourself in a direction. For example if you are standing out side a square building and you are 5 meters away from the corner and you then lash yoyrself in the direction of the wall you will still be 5 meters from the corner but that corner will now be a ledge. If you walk 5 meters forward you are now at the edge of the ledge. If you take one more step forward then you will fall, you will not be pulled toward the wall, you fall at the speed of gravity in the direction that you lashed yourself and you will keep on falling until your stormlight runs out
  2. Ahh, that first feeling of "what the hell is going on?!?!" Brings back so many good memories :') Welcome to the World of Sanderson! And just before Words of Radiance as well Oh how I envy your ignorance, but I pity the amount of catch up work you have to do Enjoy!
  3. buy, Hoid is actually a bad guy and we just dont realize it...
  4. Hey just a general question, do we refer to ourselves as Saderfans? Sandersonians? Something else?
  5. Good idea, but i cant do anything about that i hope this gets implemented though
  6. What does the "Pug" of the Cosmere mean?
  7. Hey kobain. How do you know peter?
  8. http://www.tor.com/stories/2014/01/excerpt-brandon-sanderson-words-of-radiance-chapter-six-eight-and-nine Enjoy!
  9. Let me be the first to welcome you to the site. And here's an up vote for unlurking Now to the best of my knowledge we don't have a catalogue of WoB anywhere, I could be wrong but if there is one I don't know about it. The Katarotam charecter is generally thought to be one of Kal's owners when he was a slave but we actually don't know anything about him.
  10. I think that Spren can reveal themselves to whoever, as we see Syl do quite often. So I propose that Jasnah was busy speaking with Ivory and that when Jasnah opened the door he would have made himself invisible to Shallan, but Shallan took him by suprise and he disappeared as quickly as he could. Shallan's Spren has been forced into the physical and in its weakend state it will not be able to make itself invisible to others until it gains some sentience. In conclusion I say that, when Shallan and Jasnah arrive on the Shattered Plains they will not be able to note anything special about Kaladin. Shallans spren will avoid him because of the animosity between Honour Spren and Cryptics but wont be able to articulate why he doesn't like Kaladin. Ivory might be able to see Syl and will probably talk to Jasnah about it, but Jasnah herself will not be able to see Syl unless she wants to be seen
  11. When you comb through books, QnA's and theories to compile a small little theory and hope it will get a good discussion going ;p
  12. Oh I think the argument can be made that Brandon does most of the work in every conversion mentioned above, but without us middle men putting the books in the people's hands the Words of Brandon would never reach their eyes and infect their minds.
  13. Thats really good. This magic system piques my intrest. If you are considering writing a book then I wish you the best of luck.
  14. This was actually one of the first things that I thought would be awesome as soon as I finished the book a year ago. Also if you do some digging you'll find that a "Shardspear" is actually referenced on this site a lot
  15. Don't forget the Ym Interlude and Rysn Interlude. That means we already have a total of 9! I'm not sure if I want to read this much of the book before it comes out don't get me wrong, I'm loving getting this much information but it would be nice to savour the book as well... Who am I kidding, its not like I'm going to skip these chapters when the book comes out, and ill love them just as much when I reread it as now
  16. I wonder if Amaram will recognize Kaladin immediately. Kaladin might seem familiar at first but why would that person who you sold into slavery a year ago be the Captain of the Kings/Dalinars Guard? I think he will right it off as an uncanny likeness and then Kaladin will do something signifigant. This significant thing could be anything from killing him on the spot, to just outright ignoring him or anything in between these two extremes.
  17. So much excitement!!! now excuse me as I read, ponder and speculate!
  18. When you have verbal Mistborn Battles with your friend and everyone thinks you're crazy but you do it anyway. Looking out across Australia's dessert and thinking, because of all the rusted metal in the dust, how easy it would be to allomantically jump around in it. when your teachers are berating you and you imagine how easy it would be if you could sooth them. when playing sports thinking that if only I could lash that guy to the ground with my windrunner powers and run around him.
  19. I converted my first person this year. He was an exchange student from Australia but he is actually American. Whilst he was here we went on holiday to the beach and there is no signal where we went so I told him to bring some books, he told me he hates reading, I gave him Mistborn anyway . Long story short, while in South Africa he read Final Empire, Well of Ascension, Hero of Ages and Alloy of Law he took back with him to Australia and of course the whole time he is reading it I'm dropping hints of the Cosmere. A month and a bit later when I go to Australia for my exchange he has already finished Way of Kings. He has now, to the best of my knowledge, read Warbreaker and a couple of days ago he got his copy of Elantris signed by Brandon while he was visiting family in Utah. He is now an active member of 17th shard(he just joined) and has already created a topic! his profile name on here is Zachi-chan. I'm really proud of this because not only have I created another Sanderson Fan but a READER! Then these next two are not so exciting, they're big fantasy readers and mother and son. I gave WoK to the son and then the mother read it. They love it and cannot wait for WoR but what really makes me excited is that they are as of now unaware of the Cosmere and I cannot wait for them to stumble across its brilliance.
  20. *minor spoilers for liar of partinel, this is not published yet and is possibly subject to change. An interesting theory but I'm going to say he was being cryptic. We know from what Brandon has released in his early writings for Hoids backstory, The Liar of Partinel, that Hoid is not his name but his Master's/teacher's in the art of lightweaving. The teacher dies and Hoid/Wit retaliates and then takes his masters name.
  21. Oh we know she is in Warbreaker somewhere the thing is no one knows exactly who she is, some think she might be a maid that works for Susebron. But quite honestly she could be anyone, we don't have descriptions from other books, we don't have a name and in the end the Terries are not so different from normal people, at least not so different as to make a special mention about them and what they look like.
  22. My Gosh I'm dying. I'm just imagining Kaladin swinging this flute at Szeth trying to beat his stormlight enhanced body with a stick to no avail all the while trying do dodge his shardblade. Oh and the perplexed look on Szeths face as his all powerful abilities have no affect on this little hollow piece of wood Now in all seriousness, because of the Investiture that we have already discussed within the flute then there is a possibility that surges could have very little or no effect. but I don't think this will have any impact on the inevitable fight between Kaladin and Szeth.
  23. I don't know if I would say that the flute contained investiture. It probably is a Terries Flute and was probably owned by Rashek when he was still a packman helping Alendi. Maybe if the flute has some metal bands on it then we can possibly assume that Rashek stored something in it, I don't know how this would help Wit or Kaladin though. Another possibility is that because the flute comes from Scadrial then everything on that planet has a little bit of Preservation and Ruin in it, since they created the world. I suppose I've contradicted myself. So this Flute is invested, albeit a very small amount. Does that have any sort of special significance when taken in the context that it is on Roshar and not Scadrial?
  24. How do we know that Hoid has lost fingers in the first place?
  25. @Zachi-chan Tom Hiddleston would do a good LR but just think about Benedict Cumberbatch from his role in Star Trek: Into Darkness. that is my perfect LR
