I think it is pretty obvious, imo, when a surgebinder becomes a Knight Radiant. Its when they have said all their Oaths. Also, KR in the past had a Shardblade, Shardplate, and (i know someones going to ask but im not going to bother to find the WoB, its out there, if you care enough you can find it) a Ryshadium. So when they have all of that and have said their Oaths, they're KR.

Nightblood And Black Orb Correlation
Localconfusi0n replied to Omniscience's topic in Stormlight Archive
jefftucker0525, on 19 Feb 2015 - 08:59 AM, said: We have an explanation for this one: Quote Well this doesnt really answer that, it just says that the black smoke has something to do with Nightblood being broken. Nightblood is a Shardblade on Roshar, we have not seen any other broken Shardblades so we have nothing else to use for comparison. However it makes sense to me that, since a Shardblade is made of a Spren which is made of Honor and/or Cultivation (I know this isnt exactly how it works but basically so lets just avoid the technicalities please) a broken Shardblade could just be one that is now channelling Odiums Investiture through it or been corrupted by Odium in some way. However either way I dont see that WoB to be any sort of definiitive or even all that relavent of an answer to my question. Im not saying any of this to argue, its just my point of view on it. Feel free to disagree. EDIT: i didnt quote the quote I quoted, sorry my computer decided I wasnt allowed -
Nightblood And Black Orb Correlation
Localconfusi0n replied to Omniscience's topic in Stormlight Archive
Well actually it matches pretty well. When Stormlight is in an orb it glows and when it is not its ethereal and, yes, rises. The fact that Nightbloods Investiture (I think i might be mis-using the term) is black and drops to the ground, in my mind atleast, is a strong point in its favor that it is using Odium Investiture. After all, why wouldnt Odiums Investiture behave opposite of the Honor/Cultivation mixture that we know is Stormlight? -
Well, i think what the Stormfather is categorized as depends on how your going to categorize. Is an honorspren an honorspren because they are attracted to honor or because they are honorable which makes them seek out other honorable things? Or maybe (i find this one semi-unlikely) an honorspren is an honorspren because they have achieved that rank. Maybe a Spren changes what type opf spren it is on a ranking system. i.e a cryptic has become renowned enough to earn a higher place making it the next level of Spren. This would account for the resentment that other Spren have for honorspren, because they have achieved the highest level of Spren-dom possible withoiut a certain threshold of power. Obviously this is all theoretical but i kinda like it. Feel free to shoot me down.

How did you discover the Cosmere?
Localconfusi0n replied to killersquirrel59's topic in Cosmere Discussion
i read way of kings and then was looking up Brandons other works and through a series of semi-Sanderson-addiction based discoveries i found this site. it was still a few months before i joined and then a few more before i realized what the hell the Cosmere was. -
plus, Brandon has said a Radiant can swear more than 5 Oaths, but theirs only 5 for any single Order. So if you bonded multiple Spren then you can say more Oaths and hold Stromlight better. However, he also said that's theirs"a cap" to how many Oaths a single radiant could swear. So maybe the point where you hold Stormlight perfectly is the "cap"
-
Plus, i dont think we know what is keeping Odium on Roshar (we know he is Invested in something there and leaving would reduce his power) so having Splinters of himself in the Unmade would probably do it. he cant leave until he gets them back and cant get them back until he breaks the Oathpact (kind of an assumption on my part)
-
I see a fairly big flaw in this argument. Not having seen a character in combat does not mean they never will be or don't want to. Plus things change, especially when you realize you've been chosen to be a KR Renarin had his blood-weakness, which I assume has been healed by Stormlight, Lift was not in a position to, Shallan couldn't have learned combat, she is a woman and in Alethi society that is frowned upon, now that she is a KR she can and probably will. She also had no big reason to learn combat (though maybe a few small ones). Jasnah, I have no argument to make that she will be in combat a lot, though I can definitely see her in some small skirmishes (Voidbringers break into where she is at at the time, BAM their all stone)
-
It could be that jasnah just misinterpreted the information. yes 3/4 of radiants pursue scholarship, however most of those are still fierce warriors on the battlefield. She never said they were solely scholars, just that 3/4 were scholars.
-
personally I don't think it matters how many KR are in 1 family, so long as it is justifiable (they fit the mold of that order). Also, as far as the 3/4 non-combatant role thing goes, that was a different time. Even assuming that this was 100% accurate I think that this will change because of the need for Knights on the battlefield

Im not very good at findng quotes so sorry. Also your quote is pertaining to Adonalsium shattering itself, and the quote i am refering to says an opposing force Shattered Adonalsium. The Breath is sentient through the person it has been placed in. Also, while the person was once alive, they arent really even the same person anymore and the divine breath could have just used their body as a means through which to give itself life

The Surge Regrowth and Kaladin's Various Powers
Localconfusi0n replied to KasA97's topic in Stormlight Archive
I remember the quote was asking about Syls age and Brandon said she was a few thousand years old. Im not very good at finding quotes so sorry about saying "theirs a WoB about that" but never having it to back what i say. Also, Syl being very old does make her special, because not many other Spren will be alive that will be able to remember that far back and she might be able to help new KR find out what they can do based off her memories once she gets all of them back. I atleast, think this is enough to deem her as special. -
Its how you use the word. When you say "Honor was Splintered by Odium" the intent is obviously that an opposing force did so if you say "Endowment made a Splinter of his power" (idk if Endowment is male or female so sorry if thats wrong) it is obvoius that Endowment did so himself, however Shattering is a thing that can only be done by an opposing force, or atleast thats all we have examples of so far. Plus a Splinter of a Shard is a Sentient being, while a fragment of a Shard is not neccesarily so, and usually comes from the Shattering of a Shard. So while they are very similar terms, they are not the same.
-
I understand that, however Im not refering to either term. im refering to Splitting. Also Shattering is not just an Adonalsium term, yes Adonalsium was Shattered, but so were a few other Shards we know of and Shattering is when, as you previously stated, a Shard is broken into multiple smaller pieces by another force. Splintering is when a Shard breaks off a piece of their own power for an intentional use (i.e. Endowment making Returned or the Honorblades, though i know that ones a theory) though it seems it can also be done by another force as well.

The Surge Regrowth and Kaladin's Various Powers
Localconfusi0n replied to KasA97's topic in Stormlight Archive
It was awhile ago and i cant find the quote. Sorry -
But thats if Hanmonry was Shattered, not if he was Split. Im pretty sure the term Splitting is not canon anyway so this is all hypothetical, but we know that Shattering is breaking a Shard into multiple small chunks anyway so im assuming that no one thought we would get Ruin and Preservation out of Harmony Shattering.

The Surge Regrowth and Kaladin's Various Powers
Localconfusi0n replied to KasA97's topic in Stormlight Archive
I dont think that there is anything so fundamentally different between Shardblades and Honorblades that a wound from one can be healed and another cant. Both kill the soul of a person/creature/thing and so the process for healing would be the same. The obvious answer that has already pointed out is the matter of perception. Another thing that has been pointed out is the inefficiency of Honorblades to channel Stormlight, these 2 things together seem, to me atleast, to solve the issue. Szeth knows that Honorblades channel Stormlight less efficiently than a Shardblade and that only a KR could heal a Shardblade wound because of their abilities to channel Stormlight more efficeiently. This is the basis of his perception that only a KR could heal the wound Kal received. He also knows that Proggression allows healing and so assumes that Mr.T must be right, plus his desire to believe that what is being said is true. Unrelated, Syl is definitely very special. We know from WoB that she is a pre-recreance Spren, which has to be so rare that it is special to say the least. Lastly, Kal Dell, can you please provide the quote were Brandon begins to say Windspren make a Windrunner? i think that would be very interesting and i havent seen it before. Thank you. -

Does hitting a Hemalurgic point that kills give the recipient of the spike more power? If so is this because you get a bigger chunk of the Soul? -
The Ultimate List of Questions for Brandon
Localconfusi0n replied to Chaos's topic in Cosmere Discussion
What do you mean? Why would they be any better or worse? Well ive seen a theory multiple times that what investiture you have effects which Shardpools you can Worldhop through, if you can even Worldhop through Shardpools which i dont know if that has been confirmed, so that might be what Curiosity is meaning. -
Well i guess this really just depends to what extent they've intermingled. If it is so complete that they are now 1 Shard then this conversation is really just a moot point, however i interpreted the WoB as saying Ruin and Preservation are not yet at that point, just at a point that they cannot be seperated without an intentional and determined attempt at doing so. This seems to be backed by the fact that Sazed sometimes finds it hard to act, if they were completely 1 Shard then the Intent should have changed enough that he can act within the parameters of Harmonys Intent without finding it hard to act.
-
This is faulty logic. If you intertwine to threads together they are not the same thing. If you drop them they will stay together. but just because they are twisted upon each and do not immediately come apart, does not mean they are now one thread. Its the same thing here. A better example that i just thought of is play-dough. you can push it together, but it is still able to be separated even if you mix the 2 colors completely together, with enough time and effort you can separate each and every bit of both colors back into their respective separate colors.

Does anyone else find it amusing at all that it took almost 2 whole pages to come to this conclusion? And most of the posts had absoluetly nothing to do with the topic? Just sayin lol

Do we know if the intermingling of Ruin and Preservation is due to how much time they have been held by the same person of by the back that they are so close to each other or something else? If its a time thing will they eventually become a new Shard and mix completely or will that never happen? Sorry i know this is a little off topic but it seems semi-relevant.

Do we know where Adonalsium was Shattered?

When did we find out that the Shattered Plains were Shattered during the Final Desolation? Do you have a quote for that because i dont remember anything saying that. -

Theoretically, if you found a Sharholders body, could you steal their Shard with Hemalurgy?
