Buy. Because I wouldn't put it past Brandon and his team to do something that convoluted. Kaladin will eventually run back into the slaver to sold him to Saldeas' army.

Buy. Because I think there's already been speculation on a Shardspear existing. We may get Epigraphs in future books that are translations of Parshendi Chants.

The Two Forms and Three Names of the Dragon (theory)
Gamma Fiend replied to Cartith's topic in The Wheel of Time
Pretty much all of my post will be spoilers from AMoL, which im pretty sure is cool. So I wont use the spoier tag. My first theory: The myth of the Creator is stemmed from the Dragon Reborn. Think of how Rand lights his pipe at the end. No Saidin, no Saidar, no True Power. He just thinks his pipe into lighting. That sounds like powers of the Creator to me. They say the Creator made Saidin and Saidar. No here's where my theory gets a little crazy... Think back to the Wandering Aiel Woman that Aviendha meets in the waste. The one who pushes her into changing the ter'angreal and seeing the future instead of past. I at first thought she was an agent of the Creator of some sort... but with Rand being a candidate, I think She was the Creator. We all know the Wheel of Time spins and weaves all it's stuff. We all know History goes in Circles, and the Wheel balances itself out. What if there are FOUR different types of dragons? I propose there is also a cycle of History where the Saidar gets tainted. The bore is sealed, it gets broke open. War of the Shadow begins. But the champion of that particular age is a Woman. And she leads 100 female Aes Sedai to the bore, and the Dark One does his stuff. To me that just seems more balanced. So that whole Wheel sequence happens, thousands of years, etc. Then the Bore gets re-sealed fully intact, people call that the moment of Creation. And the age has their Creator. (The Woman who touched the Bore with all 3 powers and got the Ultimate Power (I'll call it from now on). Time goes on, Age of Legends comes again. But this time, it's a male champion known as the Dragon. And we all know the rest from there. I know it's a little crazy. Might need to elaborate more. I'm just a lazy typer, heh. I know this is a long-time dead thread, but I'm on my re-read of WoT and planning on doing some fanfic for it to practice writing when I'm done. So I gots me some theories. -
What sort of Command would Hoid's Awakened Sword have? "Hunt Shards"? "Find world-hoppers"? "Meddle"? What is it's name?

I'd buy that. I'd like to see how Brandon does Old School Magic vs. MagicTech.

Ah ok. I don't think there were any signings near me, and if they were I think I already missed them. Gotta say the Steelhunt material you get seems pretty sweet, and I would love to eventually go to one of his signings in the future if I can. (Tell him to come to Cleveland, Ohio!)

Sounds like a good recommendation. The magic is pretty nifty, and can lead to a lot of possibilities it seems like, and the author sounds like a really cool dude. Will eventually check it out next time I need stuff to read. Upvoted.

So I've been seeing all this Steelhunt stuff being talked about. And I know we're not allowed to talk about the information gained from it. From what I understand, it seems like we can find codes someplaces and then go online and get hidden excerpts? Sounds cool, but I ask, is it worth it? I don't really know where to find any of these codes, and don't keep up with that much Cosmere stuff that much anyway. I'm not asking for any codes here, or trying to find out any of the information here, just wondering if this info is where actually trying to track down these codes, or should I just wait until it all becomes common knowledge?

(SPOILERS) Regarding Steelheart's weakness - Please prove me wrong
Gamma Fiend replied to Oculus's topic in The Reckoners
I think it's more along the lines of cognitive thought. If one of the Epics can be weakened/killed by something as random and mundane as the number 37, it's not too big a leap of logic that only someone living with the specific 'non-fearing' mentality can harm him. Which raises the question. Could wild or rabid animals harm Steelheart? I mean, I don't think they're mentally capable of fear. Or just a crazy person? Like somebody who has mentally snapped and is randomly striking out. They can't discern any enemies or foes. They don't know what safe or danger is. They would have no concept of fear whatsoever. I really feel like there had to have been a few Epics who match that criteria at one point that Steelheart would have had to put down. Why wouldn't they of been able to harm him? -
Ya know, I don't think I want to be a High Epic. this scene is looking dangerous. I'll take lesser powers, please Main power: Noise/Sound Manipulation and Generation. So can basically control all noise around me, good for distractions or disorienting Secondary/Passive ability: Whenever I'm in danger, or anybody means to do me harm, my body automatically generates a dense smoke, with no visibility, with a "Soothing" type power, that calms everybody down and makes them lethargic. my weakness: The smoke doesn't work if I'm hungry. My name: Woodstock Costume: Patchy, hippy pants with tons of hidden pockets, and a Mexican Serape. Sometimes I wear goofy hats. I can also be detected by a faint scent of patchouli when nearby. Oh yeah, the Epic Evil: I will sometimes go on crazy sprees blasting incredibly loud noises that reach very high decibels and can make nearby people go deaf, if not more permanent damage. I usually aim for large crowds when I go on these sprees.

I definitely enjoyed it. Was a pretty fast read (a couple of sittings) and while it did have that 'Mistborn-esque' feel, it is still it's own great work in itself. I had a feeling there was a spy in the group, and figured it had to be Megan, and was suspecting her or David having latent Epic powers after the elevator shaft, but definitely didn't see her being Firefight. My theory while reading of SH's weakness was believing he can be hurt. Not like, just knowing he has a weakness, but just believing he can be hurt. When David's father hurt him, it was while he was trying to protect him, because he believed Deathpoint would've killed or hurt him. Same could be said that's how SH blew himself up, because he knew he could be hurt. But only he knew that, so that's why nobody else could actually hurt him. Of course the aftermath, and WoB, has blown that theory apart. But it was a good ending. Cody's dialogue and the David's bad metaphors had me laughing, and I can't wait to read Firefight.

Cosmere Battle Royale; AKA Who Would Win
Gamma Fiend replied to Gamma Fiend's topic in Cosmere Discussion
I was going to say Shallan at first, because she has, I believe, a better drawing/art skill. And her "picture perfect blink" ability will always guarantee more accuracy of what they're drawing. But then again, Shai could just make a Forgery of whatever Shallan draws. But they're not always perfect, so Shallan still wins. Now the real battle begins: Who could take Galadon on in a contest to see who can be the most pessimistic sidekick? -
Buy. Only if it's Rock.

I'll buy that! Even if it should be a sell. Nightblood prediction:

I just think Vin's PoV isn't going to cut it here. Because she's trying to burn Sazed's reserve, not hers. So I don't think we have any first hand experience of anyone burning Feruchemical gold yet. maybe a couple Wayne chapters in Shadows of Self? (Maybe that's where the title comes from? The Shadows of himself that Wayne sees when burning Gold?)
-
Since Miles used his Gold burning so much, I've always wondered what kind of "shadows" or other selfs he'd of seen. Would constantly burning gold and healing make him some sort of Gold savant, and would that effect his "shadows", or was it always seeing those shadows that drove him to become a "bad guy" instead of keeping fighting for the law? Just a few musings I had real quick. In a pinch for typing time, I'll come back and clarify later if what I wrote is confusing at all.

Shard of Trepidation. You only get invested when you're paralyzed with fear and can't do anything. Which is unfortunate, cause it's totally the strongest magic in the Cosmere.

Cosmere Battle Royale; AKA Who Would Win
Gamma Fiend replied to Gamma Fiend's topic in Cosmere Discussion
How about team match-ups? Little Wilson said he'd put money on Raoden, and that got me thinking of a post I made in the Mixing Magics thread. Elantris powered AonDor, teamed up with Wayne with his Speed-bubble allomancy, that'd be a pretty nice combo. Super complex Aons in mere seconds! What team would be able to beat that? -
Just finished Book 6 of The Wheel of Time. Been on a re-read kick. But the library has Stephen King's newish book "Joyland" waiting for me, so I'm gonna jump to that soon. recently also read the Dexter book series, was kind of like the show in regards that they both started strong and had great potential on their own because they're seperate. But the further along they got, it just got worse and worse. Tried reading the Malazan series, just couldn't do it. That's one of less than half a dozen books I've never finished. I just didn't like the writing style too much, and it was just too much too fast. No character attachment was able to happen, and stuff was just too hard to follow to enjoy. Also, semi-recently read the Blade Itself series, and all the other Joe Abercrombie books. Yes, it was a "light" touch of magic, but it was the perfect amount, I thought. The real great part was the characters though. An amazing cast, and each person having a different narrative voice/style was very impressive. Abercrombie just writes great, detailed battles with the gory touch of realism. I'm sorry, characters shouldn't survive innumerable amounts of battles and come out unscathed. You have to be realistic about these kinds of things, afterall.

Here's a first line I have worked out for a non-fantasy story I've been thinking about: "Chivalry hated his name" (And yes, that means the character's name is 'Chivalry') And then here's a character introduction sentence in my fantasy story: "So this is what it feels like to have everything. Korvus Zakhar smiled to himself while looking out his office window. From this high up on the top floor of the newly built sky-reacher, he could see the entire city.

If stormlight archive was the wheel of time
Gamma Fiend replied to king of nowhere's topic in Stormlight Archive
Phew. That's a tough post to follow. Best I got is: When Jasnah becomes the leader of the scholars and researches, she'll have to do a ritual where all the females there full-frontal flash each other, and then she'll have to wash all of their feet.
