  1. Night 2 is Officially Over! Write-up coming shortly! (It'll be a good one!)
  2. Just a heads up, at the time of this post, there is about 16 hours left in this Cycle! (Unless all orders get sent in before then)
  3. I was actually going to use Powdermage Trilogy as an example of some of the newer fantasies that are starting to incorporate science with magic. (Of course, it should be noted Brian McClellan was a student of Brandon Sanderson). I actually can't think of too many examples of fantasies that don't have too much science going on, as I know I would not really enjoy them as much as the ones that I have read that do implement some sort of science/magic interaction. One thing that does bug with, is with stories that have people and factions capable of straight elemental magic manipulation....usually for hundreds/thousands of years. Think of the amazing technological leaps humans have made without any sort of magic! How can those not be discovered and used with thousands of years of unlimited possible applications. Fire: Um.... Perfect Steam-Engine, anybody? Why use that bulky coal-furnace that spits out noxious fumes when you can just use a Fire Mage to constantly power/control the temperature? What about perfect-forging techniques/welding? Wouldn't metal structures be way more common/practically used? Wind: Windmill powered electricity, much? What about masterfully built boats and crafts with wind manipulation in mind? Most average power wind mages should be able to control the small area around a boat to create the right drifts/drafts. Speaking of, Electricity: If you can control electricity, how has nobody ever thought to see what happens when you send some down a wire? So many unlimited applications. Scientific experimentation labs should be the most common things in any world where magic exists. Earth manipulation for mining purposes, looking for metals, or clearing, excavating areas. Controlling Water, you could set up an isolated pool or lake or something, use your Water manipulation to create some sort of current, install a Water Mill...and boom. Once again, easy, simple energy sources. Of course, that's just Classic Elemental Magic manipulation, and a lot of the newer fantasies have been branching out into newer interesting ways. Patrick Rothfuss' Kingkiller Chronicles is a fantastic example. Has the old idea of True Naming, direct manipulation, but there's also Sympathy and Sygaldry, which are both very fascinating and cool in their own right. Of course, Brandon Sanderson is a great example, with Fabrials and all of his different magical and technological systems he uses.
  4. Night 2: Nightmares and Dreamscapes The news of the attack on Waes hadn't surprised the villagers of Drell's Crossing, and his survival had brought with it more suspicion than relief. The townsfolk knew that the darkfriends had to have had some sort of leader, and there was openly admitted surprise that there had only been one attack during the night. Some villagers tried to maintain some semblance of normalcy and tried to continue on with their regular functions, with Khamsi, the gleewoman even going as far as to claim ownership of the no longer vacant Spruce Thicket and hiring back on Rishi as her top employee. Erik, the borderlander, had also commandeered the common room for his own purposes and soon had messengers running back and forth, using the central location of the building in the village as a tactical command center. The stress and anxiety of the recent events had taken their toll on the villagers, however; and soon enough the accusations began to fly as people publicly denounced each other as darkfriends. The heated arguments soon found their focus around a few suspects. The debates went back and forth and raged on the whole afternoon, with villagers urging people not to forget the Dragon Fang that had been found on the stable, and the suspicious activities of Bela, the shaggy mare, the day before. Many began to ask about the dirt salesman, Jim Bob Dirt's suspicious absence since the murders began, and without him showing up to defend himself people began to call for him to be hanged. Mayor Witless stepped forward and pointed out the erratic behaviour of the strange wanderer, Jain, who had recently strolled into town, and the voices calling for his blood began to grow the loudest. With the dying light, all of the villagers looked to Witless to make the call. He was their leader, and it was his burden of responsibility to give the sentence. With a sigh, the Mayor gave the signal to carry out the execution, with his eyes showing no hint of the vacant, glossy stare that had been formerly associated with the fool. As Jain was getting strung up, he cried out in protest, muttering something about the Unseen World and haunting the villagers nightmares while fumbling around for something in his pockets. As the noose tightened around his neck and his struggles began to grow weaker, something dropped from his hands to the ground below him. It was his black and white toy, in the shape of an odd beast he had called a panda. The villagers rushed forward to pour over his person for any evidence of being a darkfriend, and upon further inspection, hidden deep inside of the wooden caricature, they found a strange piece of jewelry. A smooth stone ring flecked with bits of green and red, too large for a finger, twisted around in a strange pattern that made it appear to have have only one edge that was tied to a long strap of rawhide for a necklace, but they found no signs of evil or wrongdoing. The villagers were so focused on the strange ring that none of them noticed the panda toy glaring back at the lifeless of body of Jain, with an evil, triumphant grin on it's face. Jain was Villager Dreamwalker! Night 2 Begins and will last either 48 hours until 7AM EST Tuesday, June 24th -OR- until all Night Actions get sent in. Remember, 'No Action' counts as an Action you can send in! Votes: Jain (7) - Leas Fel, Erik, Waes, Witless(+1), Douza, Dellan Jim Bob Dirt (6) - Jain, Bunnt, Grimlar, Lam, Trimat, Khamsi Bela(+1) (4) - Joel, Jae, Kaim Lam (2) - Ralv, Newan Dellan (1) - Malai Also, an Official Announcement! 5. Day 2 is over! Write-up coming soon!
  6. Just 2 hours left to go in the Day Cycle! The votes currently stand at: Assuming my maths is right Bob Dirt - 6 votes Jain - 5 votes Bela - 4 votes Lam - 2 votes Dellan - 1 vote
  7. Just a quick heads-up that the Cycle will be ending in about 12 hours from when this post is made! Carry on.
  8. Using Stormlight and surgebinding would make all Males go insane, but it will just make females become pretentious snobs with a superiority complex. Jasnah would box people's ears to get them to do what she wants. The ancient Parshendi were pacifists. Kaladin is Nohadon Reborn.
  9. Hm, I did actually specifically note that passage when I was re-reading WoK. It definitely stuck out to me, and I was pouring over WoR to see any more references, but couldn't find any. I did think maybe it was some sort of small 'slave escape group' that Kaladin had tried forming a few times before he ended up on his way to the Shattered Plains. But then again, knowing Brandon, it's probably some sort of mystery he'll tease and 'RAFO' us with. >.<
  10. Day 2: Shadows Waiting CYCLE WILL END AT 6AM EST SUNDAY, JUNE 22ND Night had fallen over the silent and dreary village of Drell's Crossing once more, and for the first time in memory, villagers had begun locking their doors when they retired for the evening. After the inn-keeper, a man who had devoted his entire life to hunting down and eliminating evil, was wrongly accused of being a Darkfriend and lynched, most of the villagers had lost their heart for vengeance. They brooded deep inside the comforts of their own homes, and prayed for the Light to hear their prayers and let them survive until the morning. Waes had decided to spend his evening out doors instead. He was not going to hide and cower and fear and wait for the Shadow to come and claim him. No. You could only know how strong a shoe was by putting it to rugged tests and various levels of stress. If it was a well-made shoe, it would hold together and not break down after repeated trials. But if there was something wrong with the integrity of the shoe, then there was just no fixing it. The cobbler had believed the same could be said about a man's mettle. Lost in his own thoughts, he tried to follow the day's chain of events in his mind once more, trying to make some sense of it all. The villagers should have known better than to elect a fool for Mayor. What had they honestly expected to happen? He couldn't help but feel like he was partly responsible for Gade's death. He passed by the Spruce Thicket, the late inn-keeper's pride and joy he had built with his own hands when he had passed into town many years ago and spent all of his time running and maintaining. Waes frowned. The building had lay vacant for less than half a day, but he could already see signs of vandalism. The door was hanging slightly ajar, and some words had been scrawled into burnished oak doors. “There's only one Dreamwalker. She's a Villager “ He shook his head and closed the door with a slam. If Mayor Twim was alive, none of this nonsense would still be happening. He swore he had even seen Ralv sneaking around earlier in the night, carrying a sack with filled to the top with it's sides bulging. That's what we get when a fool with no wits is in charge. He grumbled to himself again, continuing to move on. He had been out for walking for a few hours already, and the sun was going to be rising soon if the lightening sky on the horizon was any indication. He was walking past the stables when he paused yet again, hearing some sort of rustling off to his right. He peered into the darkness, his heart racing a little bit faster. He gingerly stepper forward, staring intensely, trying to penetrate the darkness. As his eyes adjusted, shadows began to solidify into solid shapes, and when Bela let out a sudden whicker, Waes nearly jumped straight out of his perfectly crafted shoes. “Bloody ashes!” He cried out, trying to regain control of himself. “Light, you nearly scared me half to death. Wait, what's this?-” He cut off as he noticed a Dragon's Fang had been painted onto the post in Bela's stable, with the fresh red paint still drying as small rivulets dripped down from the bottom. Waes frowned yet again, although he wasn't surprised that the horse had been accused of being a Darkfriend. He asked himself the question he had heard many other villagers themselves had posited throughout the night. Where did that horse find that noose earlier? He was so lost in his own thoughts that he didn't hear the sound of somebody approaching from behind him, although he did feel the pain as the small dagger punched into his back, causing him to yell out in surprise and pain. The sudden noise and movement startled Bela, causing her to rear up and begin to neigh loudly. This caught both Waes and his attacker off guard, but the grip on Waes' shoes allowed him to regain his footing just a second before he stumbled, and he took his advantage to start running. “Darkfriends!” He yelled, dashing madly through the village, not even checking to see if he was being followed. “Bloody murder in the streets!” He made it all the way back to the Spruce Thicket before the slow, spreading pain in his sides began to overcome him, and he collapsed against the doorway, taking slow, ragged breaths. Torches appeared off in the distance, and Waes could hear the shouts and yells of alarm spreading throughout the village as he closed his eyes. **** As the sun peaked it's head out on the horizon, bringing with it a brand new day, the villagers of Drell's Crossing were already wide awake. Waes had been found, unconscious and breathing shallowly at the doors of the inn and was brought inside for immediate medical attention. It wasn't until things had calmed down that somebody had noticed a note had been tacked up to the inside of the door, and on it was a poem: Bloodstains in my fingerprints. Screams inside my head. Memories of imagination. I'm dancing with the dead. Whisper in the shadows. Death waits upon the eve. I've come to love the darkness. The night is when I feed. 11 1 55 149 6 49 11 10 4 149 12 25 4 25 Black, it is my very soul. The devil kneels to me. But like a stone, my heart was thrown. Into hell, eternity. 9 1 6 j 6 7 10 55 14 7 10 12 1 34 10 11 4 7? Cursed by the maker. Made to live among the dead. Collecting souls has made me old. Yet death is what I'm fed. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Waes survived an attack! A Dragon's Fang was found scrawled on Bela's stable! Day 2 Begins! It will last 48hours! If anybody who's not playing the game wants to follow along and speculate about it, feel free to send me a PM and I will give you a link to a Speculation Doc, where discussion and breakdowns of the game have been going on! 11. Night 1 has officially ended! Write-up coming soon!
  12. That does sound pretty tempting and all, but alas, I am a Stick.
  13. 12 HOURS LEFT IN NIGHT CYCLE 1 (As of the time this post was made, so make sure to look at the time stamp!)
  14. Ever hear of the proverb, "Speak softly but carry a big stick"? Exactly. (And that image above is storming fantastic.) Remember, we must be adamant! What do we say when people try to sway us? "I am a Stick!"
  15. The Golden Voice of The Creator booms down from the Heavens above, causing villagers to stop in their tracks and stare to the skies rejoicing. The Light had blessed them with their presence! Surely it was a sign that evil would be defeated! With their morale renewed, the villagers set back to their tasks at hand. There was still work to do.
  16. Hey, look, it's your beloved GM with yet *another* clarification/update. This one is actually pretty big, as it's the clear-cut, once and for all, NIGHT ACTION ORDER BREAKDOWN Water Ability (necessary so it can stop the Spirit ability or Whitecloak Spirit Ability/Whitecloak All other Player Actions Fireball Ability/Wolfbrother/Forsaken/DF Kill Corruption Corruptions will happen AFTER all the other actions. This allows so that Padan Fain's ability doesn't act like another Role-block, and anybody that it targets will still complete their Night Action beforehand. Sorry for not getting this more clear earlier, but hopefully this will still be up early enough to allow for adjustments to any plans this may mess with. The Thief-Tracker is not listed on there, because their power is used during the day, and it just checks to see who the person targeted the previous Night Cycle. So if they targeted somebody, there is a result. If they did nothing or get role-blocked, or the Thief-Taker gets Role-blocked, then the result for that Tracking shows up "Unsuccessful". Any questions, please keep asking. I really want to make sure I get this all out of the way before it starts changing your plans too much mid-way through the game! You all have been doing great so far (except maybe Gade ), keep it up! Edit: D'oh! Forgot to give credit where credit is due. Do NOT upvote this. Meta is the one who helped me come up with this Action Order, he deserves all the credit.
  17. Making this a New Post because it's an important announcement. An Extension has been requested! The Cycle will now last til 5AM EST Friday, June 20th no matter what!
  18. This thread has been up for about 15 hours so far. Remember, Night Cycles will either End when all Actions get Sent in, or 48 hours hits. Whichever comes first. If anybody asks for an Extension (via Docs, PM, or Thread) the Cycle will automatically last for 48 hours no matter what. I will not let you know how many Actions have been sent in or not. I will keep a countdown for hours going, however. Night Actions may be changed as many times as you see fit, but when the Cycle ends, your last sent in order will be recorded.
  19. Night 1: A Fool's Choice Cycle Ends 5AM EST Friday, June 20th Night began to fall over the town of Drell's Crossing once again with the setting sun just a smeared blip of light on the horizon, it's fading color stretched out across the skyline, slowly blending from orange to red, and finally, to darkened purple twilight. Tension hung thick in the air as the villagers scrambled to make sense of the horrible events of the day, and before long fear and suspicion began to creep in and spread throughout the town like an infectious wound. One look at the mess that had been found in the morning left no doubt in the villagers' minds who was responsible. Only Darkfriends were heinous enough and capable of committing such atrocities. Mayor Twim had been a beloved, respected man who had led the town of Drell's Crossing for the last 13 years, and the sight of his grizzly remains had set the town's blood boiling and it wasn't long before many voices began to demand justice. Almost immediately, the villagers began to fill the void of leadership by trying to elect a new Mayor. Malai was the first to speak of, proposing Witless be the one to fulfill the vacant position, while Rishi stepped forward and suggested Waes be elected instead, as he was the first to step forward and prompt discussion. This prompted an outbreak of discussion and arguments that eventually led to people being accused of being Darkfriends as well. “I will not have this in here!” Declared Gade, the Innkeeper. “I will not have the environment of my establishment tarnished with these grim discussions! If you insist on going at each other's throats, you can bloody well do it outside!” Mostly uninterrupted, the arguing had indeed spilled out into the streets, with suspicion and mistrust growing as the afternoon dragged on. When it had appeared that the conversation was starting to run in circles, Leas Fel stepped forward to begin barking orders to double patrols and to start having a funeral for the mayor arranged. The Aiel-War veteran's display of taking charge reminded the village of the void in leadership they were facing and debates for a new mayor broke out again in earnest. “We need a strong leader!” People began cry out. “We need somebody who's respectable, charismatic, and sharp of wit!” Nobody was exactly sure who could perform such a daunting duty as leading the town to safety in the troubled times ahead, but it was just that moment that Witless came strolling through town carrying a couple of rabbits he had caught in his snares earlier in the day. They were impressed with his self-dependency and reckoned that for somebody to live as comfortably as he did in his circumstances, there must be something more to the guy that meets the eye. “Congratulations, Witless.” Malai declared, stepping forward. “You are now the Mayor of Drell's Crossing.” “Er-, what?” asked the Town Fool, looking around, believing everybody was playing some sort of trick on him. “If I'm Mayor, then you have to listen to what I say?” “Uh, yes. That's how being Mayor works.” Witless did a quick look around the village to see everybody's reactions, trying to detect their hidden smiles and stifled laughter. What he instead saw was Bela, the shaggy mare that had been randomly roaming around town chomping on sticks, walk up carrying a noose in it's mouth, which it then laid at Gade's feet. “Aha! That horse has declared Gade, the inn-keeper, a Darkfriend! As Mayor, I declare that he must be lynched!” It wasn't until everybody shrugged their shoulders and complied with the request that Witless realized they were serious. He really was mayor. And he had just sentenced somebody to be hanged! Upon searching Gade's body after he was cut back down, the villagers found a book in his pocket. It was a copy of “The Way of the Light” written by Lothair Mantelar. Gade was a Villager Whitecloak. Witless is the new Town Mayor Final Lynch Count: Gade (2) - Leas Fel, Bela Grimlar (1) - Witless Dellan (1) - Malai Bob Dirt (1) - Waes Phew. That was a difficult write-up! First things the Town does is elect a Fool as Mayor, and a horse gives the lynching vote! Witless obviously had nothing to do with the actual lynching, but I needed some reason for the lynch to happen. Hope you all enjoyed! Night 1 will last 48 hours, or until all Night Actions are sent in. Remember, even if you don't want to perform an action, still send in a PM saying so. Remember, Dragon Fangs do count as a Night Actions! So, if the Cycle goes the full time, it will end ~5AM EST Friday, June 20th.
  20. Day 1 is over! All Lynch and Mayor votes are final! Write-up coming soon! Update:Topics have been merged any Night 1 is up and running!
  21. There is about 5 Hours left in the Day Cycle. If my tallies are correct there Votes stand at: Lynch: Dellan (1) - Mailai Lam (1) - Newan Gade (1)- Leas Fel Bob Dirt (1) - Waes Grimlar - (1) Witless Mayor: Witless (5) - Malai, Kaim, Joel, Leas Fel, Jae Weas (2) - Rishi, Newan, Nath Sprell (1) - Sprell Bela (1) - Ashiok Edit: Fixed. Apologies, thanks for the heads-up. I'll make sure I count more closely when the cycle actually ends. And Joel is correct below, Dragon Fangs get scrawled on doors at the end of the Night Cycle, affecting the vote the following Day.
  22. Um, I wouldn't say perfectly reasonable. I mean, if you absolutely feel it's necessary to skip it, then yeah, sure. You could technically do that no problem I suppose. But after reading NINE out of the 14 books in the series already, why would you skip Book 10? You don't get the prose of Robert Jordan's writing, you don't get the crucial detailing and subtle hints and world/plot building. You're basically saying "I just want to get to the end." Which is a main goal when reading a series, definitely. But after 9 books, why skip it or rush it? Why not go ahead and get everything that that World has to offer. Honestly, I do not recommend skipping any books in any fantasy series. You're just going to miss one whole piece of the picture. But like I said, for some people that works perfectly fine for them, and if they're happy with it, then all the power to them. But for me, personally, I do not like that solution. *shrugs* /endrant.
  23. It appears that the downsides from those curses were bad because of the current situations that played out in the game. But ANYBODY could have asked for a kill weapon that would have had similar repercussions. For your boon you asked to kill somebody specifically. So in response, you died. From how Wilson worded it, whoever would have asked for the same boon "Kill X player", then they would have died too, I'm assuming. Same with Rengar's boon. He asked for somebody else's allegiance to be flipped around, therefore his allegiance got switched. The same thing would have happened had anybody else asked the same thing. It was just the particular play-through of this Game that the curses seemed to give an advantage to the 17S, but that was mostly because we were by large the only people who actively took advantage of it. If a Merchant asked for a Noble to have their allegiances switched to the Merchants, then that person would have became a Noble. (At least how I understand it). And the fact that my kill item had technically two curses. There was the obvious 'S' sentence one, which was noticeable. I was just extremely careful of how I had to speak going forward. It nearly inhibited me from being able to participate in any type of serious discussion. But the lesser seen curse was the fact I had to feed it with people I was loyal too. That set-up does favor the 17S though, in this game type. But it completely killed any chance I or Wyrmhero would have had for getting my alt-win. And my kill item didn't even give us the win, it was Rengar's curse that did it. But I do honestly think Rengar's boon/curse was probably the fairest one made the entire game. Take somebody off their team and put them on yours? Okay, now you're on the team they were on. With all of that said, though. IF a game of this type were to ever run again, now that people know how the curses and all of that work, it will be a lot more even for everybody else since they know what to expect/ask for. But that's the point of this Sub-forum still being relatively new, we're still trying out tons of different ideas to see what works and what doesn't, and what people enjoy or not.
  24. Um, good question about Mayor Votes being redacted. I would say, just un-color them if you want to remove your vote, that way, I only have to look for Red and Orange text when I go to do the write-ups. Thank you, and carry on!
  25. Been hashing out some possibilities of Role Interactions in the Speculation Doc, so I decided to make this a whole new declaration. How Role-Blocking Works: Role-blocking will technically work as it makes the Action role-blocked never technically happen. So if a Channeler or Padan Fain get roleblocked, their Power Use or Corruption will count as never being used. This will also then effect the Thief-Taker, as if they target somebody who was role-blocked, since the person never made an action was never technically performed. So their result would then show up as "Unsuccessful". An Update about the Thief-Taker: The Thief-Taker's powers are that they work as that they 'Sniff' down a player's trail from the Night Before. So they get two possible results from when they send in their orders: Either they find out who their Target targeted -or- their attempt at finding a trail is "Unsuccesful" Same as with Vanilla players or players who just regularly didn't perform an Action at Night. So if somebody gets Role-blocked, there is no action that occurs Because the Thief-taker is the only Role that has an Action that occurs at day, this gives them the advantage where they can't ever be role-blocked, so also keep that in mind. Darkfriends and Corruption: The Darkfriend's "Night Kill" ability is technically an Alignment power, so if they get Corrupted, they still have the power to pull out the Night Kill. How The Darkfriend Kill works is they have to agree upon and assign who will be performing the Kill in their Doc, then that person PMs me with their choice. It is up to the person performing the Night Kill for them if they want to follow along with who everyone agreed to take out, of course This does not count as the Forsaken's kill, as that power it totally their choice to use, and they submit their target via PM. Mayors: Re-reading how I worded it, a new Mayor could be elected every day. With my earlier clarification on the Mayor's voting powers, since their +1 vote power wouldn't go into effect until the next Day they vote in, if you elect a new mayor every day then they won't get to use their Mayor Power. But if you rotate them every other day, there should be no problem with that. *yet another Update* Dragon Fangs: Since Vanilla (i.e., Roleless) players have the option to scrawl a Dragon Fang on a players door at night, this counts as a Night Action and can be tracked by the Thief-Taker and/or Role-blocked. Apologies for not having all of this worked out, exactly, before everything started. But at least it's all getting acknowledged on the first Day! Phew. Hopefully I got anything too major before it comes up. Once again.... carry on as usual.
