  1. I'm on the same page as Swimmingly. I feel like I've read that Brandon and some friends made it to keep in touch after leaving school. But I also thought it was sort of the original 17th Shard, a place to discuss his works. I've always been a bit confused. Explanation would be appreciated.
  2. I would say that the reason Brandon has put a massive RAFO on this is because Braize is the land of Odium. Obviously if Hoid goes there something big is going to happen. We know that Hoid is not ok with Odium's doings in general. If he has been to Braize, Brandon probably doesn't want to tell us because Hoid did something big there or he even interacted with Odium. Hoid is ever-mysterious. Brandon is always very quiet with specifics about him. I find it not surprising at all that he has chosen to RAFO what could well have been one of Hoid's most significant doings, going to the land of who he believes is the greatest the threat to the cosmere. Alternatively, he could have RAFOed the question because it will be a literal RAFO and Hoid will go to Braize at some point in the Stormlight Archive and whatever he will do there will be on the level of what I said above. [crazy speculation]Or maybe Hoid went there a long time ago and if it was the Tranquiline Halls he was the one who expelled humanity then blamed it on Odium. The reason Hoid hates Odium so much is that he doesn't want him to tell anyone that he framed him. The reason Odium is going on a Shard killing spree is that he wants to get enough power to get back at Hoid. Unfortunately, Hoid needs help but he can't tell anyone the truth. That's why his dragon-pal won't help him.[/crazy speculation] And just to say, I really don't think there is any way that Roshar/Ashyn/Braize was ever Yolen because I'm pretty sure we know Yolen still exists now. Isn't that where the dragon is?
  3. Dovie'andi se tovya sagain! (Couldn't resist.)
  4. Yes, very good job indeed, Feather! I most definitely hadn't seen it before now. I greatly admire those of you who can make coherent keteks. Yours, Feather, astound me. Whenever I try I get a few pieces in and them get lazy and stop. Oh well. I shall leave the lovely ketek-writing to others, that I may read and enjoy.
  5. The whole thing doesn't really matter all that much. No offense to skaa, but I think that this bit of speculation, while fun and cool, is a little too far-fetched to ever be true anyways. I would be kind of disappointed if we were able to figure all of this out from the few little hints Ym gives us. It's always fun to be surprised!
  6. It would sort of make sense that if one Order with the Illumination Surge is able to see into the future with greater clarity than others that the other could have a better view of the present.
  7. Very interesting concept, skaa! I will add it to my unofficial list of ideas which probably aren't right, but are certainly interesting. What Bloodfalcon says doesn't necessarily preclude this from being true, however. That question specifically asked how many Shards had been on Roshar. Just because only three have been there doesn't mean that others haven't influenced it in some way. I'm pretty sure we have WoB that Harmony is aware of the happenings on Roshar, and to do so he most likely has some sort of influence/presence there. Experience having Invested people would fall into the same category.
  8. Excitement! Another thing to make 17th Shard awesome! I want an award!
  9. It's all about perspective.
  10. Maybe we should create another Cosmere Coliseum thread: Kandra versus Returned Bagpipe Faceoff Edition!
  11. Wow. I read that article and didn't even notice that. I gotta step up my game!
  12. Good catch, Citizen. I have an idea. It is speculated that the Edgedancers are related to Cultivation, based on the power of Growth, Wyndle appearing as vines to Lift, and the Nightwatcher (many think she is related to Cultivation) being the mother of their spren. We also know that Cultivation is better at future sight than Honor was. Maybe this relation to Cultivation with the Progression Surge (the name of which is odd) in combination with this different form of sight through Illumination is what allows the Truthwatchers to see into the future.
  13. A Silence of Three PartsA quick search found this.
  14. Very well put, Swimmingly. If you can find the prologue to Rothfuss's books, Elsa, read them for a taste. Both of them are some of the most beautiful pieces of writing ever. The reason he has only two books out is that he carefully considers every. Single. Word. No exaggeration.
  15. He actually only has two books released, and of those two I love both.
  16. Patrick Rothfuss, author of the Kingkiller Trilogy and another of my favorite fantasy authors. Swimmingly wrote in a pretty flowery, rhythmic way that reminded me of Rothfuss's own writing.
  17. What I was thinking (and kind of what I was getting at in my OP) is that having visual impairment can change the way one makes Cognitive connections. Their mind then becomes trained to somehow make these connections in a different way from other people. However this is, those who do turn out like it are potential Truthwatchers. This ties in sort of with what Ati said about broken souls, that vision may be a contributor to the breaking. So Renarin attracted Glys because of some part of this framework. What I was thinking is that his Cognitive identity/working has changed to such an extent that it can't be (easily) undone, so he still has this difference that makes him view the world like a Truthwatcher. As you say Sphinx, we don't know whether Renarin healed through Stormlight or through Regrowth. This may be key to my theory. If he healed through Stormlight, that means he Cognitively views himself as having normal vision, as Stormlight is a normal Realmatic healing. Like Feruchemical gold, it restores you to your Cognitively ideal state. (This was why Kaladin expelled the ink, as he viewed himself as branded.) If Renarin still views himself as having normal vision, he would not have this Cognitive difference that would contribute to his Truthwatcher-ness. Obviously, I hope he used Regrowth. So far, it is the only Investiture ability that allows one to heal another. I believe that it does not work with the same Cognitive ideal concept as other Realmatic healing, as one doesn't really have ideals about other people. I see no reason it would be likewise constricted when one tries to heal oneself. Ergo, Renarin could have actively chosen to heal his sight with Regrowth while still having his Cognitive difference and still being a Truthwatcher, viewing the world differently. Or I could be reading way too much into Ym and Renarin both having impaired vision. But what does a true Sharder do other than read way too much into everything?
  18. Rothfuss couldn't have said it better.
  19. Well, are they really more powerful than Returned. Yeah, Returned have the Breath consumption limitation, but if you remove a kandra's spikes, it's a mindless lump. Also, above Sentient Awakened Object? Do you really think a kandra could stand up against Nightblood. And kandra definitely aren't greater than Scadrian Waffle Cooks. Nevertheless, looking again at the list, I guess it makes more sense the lists isn't totally linear in terms of power anyways. And it's not even halfway to a KR.
  20. Hmm... Kandra is an interesting one. I'm kind of surprised it's so high up.
  21. I love the community as well! It is by far one of the best I've been a part of. But Swimmingly, you've made a mistake. The mods and admins don't have fire extinguishers/banhammers. Those are spikes
  22. I agree. If the story is readable, I don't care too much about the story so much. Lynch definitely pulls off both very well. (And of course, so does Brandon.)
  23. That was always kind of an ideal outcome for him, never necessarily certain though. He started a lot of new projects (Steelheart, Rithmatist, Sixth of the Dusk, Legion, Mistborn Adventures), and Elantris 2 really fell into the background. Plus, Tor really wants SA3 soon, so that bumped it way out.
