  1. So I have finally, after more than two years (yes I'm a slow reader but also very busy and generally don't devote much of the free time I do have to reading, at least not at this time in my life) made it to The Crippled God (final main arc Malazan book) and I will get through it by the end of 2015 if it kills me (I'll have to take a break from it to read Shadows of Self, which may complicate things).
  2. Happy 2nd Shardday to me (even though I never post anymore)!

But I remember the glorious days when you did. :) Happy Shardday!

      Aw, shucks! Thanks!

  3. Most think it has gotten weaker with every book. I personally would rate them 9/10, 7/10, 6.5/10, respectively. I have a feeling the next books are going to bring it back to its original level, or at least close to it.
  4. I'll probably be at the Brookline signing! I'm glad he's coming back to MA because I missed him on the Firefight tour due to snow.
  5. Sadly, I am still reading Dust of Dreams. I have had literally zero reading time recently, occasionally going literally weeks without reading more than a few dozen pages. Hopefully summer should mend this.
  6. Perhaps if I decide to return to my former posting frequency, I will change the username to indicate the "resurrection". Yeah, I did about 75% of my posting during the first 2-3 months after WoR was released and since then I pretty much have only posted to update the "What are you reading?" thread. I think we occasionally were active in the same threads. I would be Delighted to start hanging around again! I'm sure you still get bad puns like that all the time. And is white text still a thing?
  7. I still exist.

You certainly do. Cogito ergo sum.

  8. Kind of boring news, but summer's almost here, which means I might actually be able to get some reading time again! And maybe I'll start posting here again! But most of you probably don't even remember me anymore...
  9. So, Sharders. How are things?

Going strong! Still haven't caught Hoid though, so that's a bummer.

  10. Thanks! It's been really hard to find reading time recently, so it may take me quite a while to get through the DoD/TCG duology, but I am going to do it! Then I still of course have to finish the Esslemont books, and start the Kharkanas series, and read the Bauchelain and Korbal Broach novellas... So I still have a lot ahead of me in the Malazan world.
  11. I read Perfect State last week, and it is my favorite of Brandon's novellas, excluding TES, which I consider a short novel more than a true novella. I am now reading Dust of Dreams, the penultimate volume of the regular Malazan books.
  12. I am sort of bothered/frustrated by this cover's looking so much like those of the individual releases for SfSitFoH and Sixth of the Dusk. It seemed like Brandon was setting a look/tone for individual, uncategorized cosmere releases, but now that this has taken the same style that precedent has been lost. But this is the kind of trivial thing only a true Sandersonian would be bothered by.
  13. I'm sad, because I want this to be cosmere a bit too badly. Imagine Knights Radiant fighting giant robots! Or Mistborn!
  14. Let's just say that if you've read the Lord of the Rings books or seen the movies and also seen the original Star Wars trilogy, you have read it already. And been spared the ridiculously flowery writing.
  15. Perrin is mine, but Mat is a close second.
  16. Can't believe WoR already came out over a year ago

  17. Glad I can finally read this without buying into Dangerous Women. It seems like there is now a precedent that all cosmere works will eventually be individually available no matter where it is initially released.
  18. I finished Stonewielder a little while ago. I really enjoyed it, and am glad that I have come to like Esslemont, because I was going to read his books no matter what. Can't miss any Malazan! I'm now a good quarter into the sci-fi classic Time and Again, which I've never read but was given to me as a gift. Really good so far, though I don't see quite yet why it is held in such high regard by so many.
  19. Love the painting and the cover, except for the fact that Wax's head obscures part of the title. It could easily have been scaled so that wasn't a problem, and I am not a fan of that style.
  20. Wisdom teeth removed = not fun :(

Ugh. That doesn't sound fun at all. :( If I could share my goldminds with you, I would.

  21. I'm going to have to go with Alloy of Law. Like Weiry, it's not really my kind of story, and strangely I felt that it dragged, even though it is relatively short. I appreciate it more after rereads, though, but it remains my least favorite.
  22. Since the maintenance, my notifications have been screwy. I receive them, but the count of new ones doesn't go down, even if I open the notifications or go to the indicated pages. Edit: Never mind, it seems fixed.
  23. This is sort of a tangent, but related to Pat's slow writing speed. One thing I've always wondered about is how financially successful/stable Pat is compared to Brandon. Not including his not-for-kids picture books, Pat only has three major books selling on the market, released over the last 8 years now. By comparison, counting WoT books and excluding minor eBooks and Alcatraz books (because I'm pretty sure those aren't huge sellers), Brandon has sixteen books released over 10 years. Therefore, Brandon must be sitting on a lot more money than Pat, and if that's the case, how stable is Pat really? Or is it like a few books selling very well on the mass market is generally enough to sustain one and Brandon is doing more than fine? Do publishers give writers pay checks to maintain them above their book royalties?
  24. I'm going to go ahead and say that yes, this does indeed seem to confirm Khriss as the AAA. I mean, I'd kind of suspected/assumed it for a while, but this lends more strength to to idea. Nice catch!
  25. Wait until you read Words of Radiance, if you haven't already.
