This would seem to indicate that were talking about something that wasn't casually stumbled upon in Navanis research. It leads me to believe that this is an actual artifact of another time that was placed in Roshar for a reason. It's possible that it was what motivated the Parshendi to have Galivar assassinated, but it still bothers me that they failed to provide Szeth in any instructions regarding what should be done with it. The Parshendi may have had him killed so he wouldn't discover the most important words a man can say just as easily.

I'm strongly in favor of the first option.

Yes, I find it hard to believe that her brothers would have been okay with Shallan keeping a Shardblade if she knew about it. Now, that is an interesting theory... Luesh being a Surgebinder. So what if neither the Ghostbloods or Amaram killed Luesh? What if he was killed by someone else for being a Surgebinder instead?

Actually, it's not being missed. It was discussed in another thread and this is an alternate theory laid out in an attempt to bolster the idea that Dalinar is in the early stages of a Nahel Bond. I personally think that if Dalinar was going to be draining Stormlight from someones Shardlpate, it would have been his own. I don't see how it could have been easier to drain the Stormlight from another Shardbearers plate than the Plate he was wearing regardless of the fact that Elholars Plate was leaking Stormlight.

Eh? I think it is at least as likely, if not more, that even her own family was unaware of her fathers Shardblade. I think Shallan may have been aware he had it, but it's altogether possible none of her brothers did. So the Blade appears after she kills him and she grabs it and makes it go away. The other possibility is that they did know about the Shardblade, and Shallan realized that whoever killed her father would have taken it, so she claimed it and told those who were not present that the killer took the Blade. The last possibility is that I don't have any idea what I'm talking about and someone is going to throw a bunch of quotes at me proving me dead wrong and make me feel silly for making this post.

I agree with this. The Alethi may be estimating that the Parshendi have the same requirements for support personnel as they do. We know that they do not. This means they may be able to field two or three times as many soldiers as teh Alethi believe. I did get the impression however that Eshonai was concerned about their numbers. After nearly six years of fighting, without the same ability to recuperate from losses as the Alethi, the Parshendi have to be hurting. The Alethi are constantly renewing their numbers, the Parshendi are constantly reducing in numbers. They are cut off. They are in trouble. This is why they are willing to risk Stormform.

I don't need anything fancy, I'd be happy to settle for the power of Hoid.

What we have of the Ym interlude is on the first page. Some additional information was paraphrased from later readings that were not recorded. For the entirety of the Lift interlude, follow the link to the ShardHunt at the top of the page right under the url bar. Latest News. Complete the Shardhunt and you will recieve a code and a URL which will allow you access to the Lift interlude as well as other samples that have been reserved for the Steelhunt. Good'luck'

I believe that all spren are discerning in their own way. I believe that Nohadon was referring to the character of the Surgebinders when he made that statement. A creative person can be either good or bad, but they remain creative, so they could attract a bonding spren that had an affinity towards creative people. Honorspren, I believe, are attached to higher ideals, which would make them more concerned with character. I am more than happy to agree with this part of the theory. The only problem with this is the following quote: I still feel that the theory you proposed is more consistent with Brandons other magic systems than the alternate theory that Stormlight is merely gasoline or electricity.

See, that's exactly what I was trying to avoid .

Sadeas is likely estimating the numbers by gemhearts won, a decrease in raids against the Alethi side of the Plains, the number of troops committed to battle, and various other sources of military intelligence. He could be off on the number of soldiers by assuming a large number of non-combatants, but he'd have a good idea of the number of Parshendi if his intelligence is worth half what he pays them. The Alethi have been at war with the Parshedi for over five years. Guestimating your enemies strength shouldn't be that difficult since both forces have been encamped in the same locations, roughly, for the entirety of the campaign.

I think this question would be a definite Read And Find Out.
-
I think it's a great theory already. Not sure it needs anything else .
-
I read that as meaning the Knights Radiant collectively.
-
Absolutely not. If I did that it would show that my previous statement was off the cuff instead of a well researched argument.

Might be a bit hazardous seeing as from what we've seen of Syl, windspren don't seem capable of remembering for very long. Syls more direct tie to Honor, and through that tie to Kaladin makes her an exception. So getting the windspren together, then getting them to agree, then making sure they don't forget at 3000' AGL might be problematic.

Eh, you're probably right. I'll have to steal Brandons laptop someday then I'll have all the answers . As far as AonDor goes, I believe Seons existed before the Splintering, and that the Splinters attached themselves to whatever they could. Seons were the only spren like investiture that we know of on Sel. They were almost certainly created by Devotion, but due to the severe lack of existing conduits, it's possible, though I'll admit it's unlikely, that splinters of Dominion attached themselves to the Seons after the fact. I'm unaware of any type of Dominion splinters existing independently. I believe that at least some of his power may have tried to attach itself to something stable in hopes that it could dominate the entity. In this case they would have failed to take control. Shardic power can be combined. We see spren with a mixture of Honor and Cultivation, and Feruchemy is a mixture of Preservation and Ruin. This statement definitely leaves Brandon with wiggle room. The goal appears to be ensuring that healing is balanced. It also leaves him with the option of finding a different method of balancing the system. I read this as meaning that the end goal is to reach a state of equilibrium with the previous state of being, but that exceptions can be made so long as the system remains in balance. He said "in a lot", not "all". Brandon was talking in generalities to some extent, but appeared to be focusing on forging. I would encourage an open mind when it comes to theorizing.
-
Unlikely. I'm basing that on the visions themselves. The visions were of Dalinar interacting with the Knights Radiant. If he wanted Dalinar to restore the Heralds, then I understand why he's a deader after playing head games like that.
-
eh, Devotion is likely to aid the cognitive and spiritual in repairing the physical. Dominion is more likely to dictate the actions of the cognitive and spiritual through the physical. Preservation is likely to restore a person to how they were to preserve their residual self image on the Cognitive plane. If this is the case, then each of these Shards would approach healing differently. Preservation's power would actually be the least flexible of the three, which is why you can't heal something that has already affected the patients cognitive form. I don't think were going to find a set method for all Shards. Cultivation seems like it would be a mix between Devotion and Dominion because cultivation is about removing the bad and nurturing the good. Honor is a tricky one. I believe Honor doesn't heal so much as it makes whole. This would help explain why Kaladin is healed by Stormlight, but can't actually use Stormlight to heal.

After seeing your explanation, it fits pretty well. You may very well be correct.

So by this you're saying that all Alomancers burn mist as fuel? I know this has happened, in certain conditions, but I'm pretty sure that this isn't the way Alomancy functions under ordinary circumstances. Like I said, it's splitting hairs. I don't think that the Shards on Roshar are blind to gemstones. The only power a gemstones hold is the ability to store Stormlight and trap spren. Brandon has said this is a function of the mineral make-up of the gems, but he never said that they were the trigger or gateway to Surgebinding. I'm also not certain that I would classify the 'Orb of Shadows' as a gemstone. As to the rest of my original post...I'll take your lack of comment as complete agreement.
-
I think that's splitting hairs Windrunner. I also don't think Brandon ever specifically said that Stormlight was fuel rather than a catalyst like metal. I could be wrong, and I'd be happy to see the source for this information.
-
Stormlight is investiture. Each Shard can grant investiture based on the world that it is related to. On Roshar, the base investiture seems to be light, just as on Scadrial the base investiture is metal. It's possible that the 'Orb of Shadows' is a splinter of Odium. (Yes, I just coined a new term!) I don't believe that the Heralds had access to all the surges. If the Heralds had access to all the surges, it makes less sense why each Radiant Order had a specific Herald as a patron. I believe that Heralds had additional abilities related to the surges they represent. For instance, if Kaladin as a Wind Runner, can ride a storm, Jezrien as the Storm Father could become the storm. Instead of being a passenger, Jezrien may have the ability to control the strength and speed of a Highstorm to a certain degree. This would allow him to focus its strength in certain locations, spend more time examining what may be occurring in an area, etc. Due to the fact that each Knight Radiant is bonded to a splinter of Honor, I don't believe it's likely the KR are individually that much weaker than the Herald who is their patron. I believe that in many ways they are equal, but that the Heralds have an extra tier of abilities that a KR lacks. This also may have changed to some degree Post-Splintering.

Okay, I'm sold on the forms theory. Yes, the spiritual aspect would have mostly been a matter of cross association. More people would have been exposed to the idea and encouraged to believe in it based on its religious significance. The same could be said of doctoring gold with lead based on its monetary significance, or the common thread of how much gold or gems are valued as currency across a wide array of worlds.

Please edit the last line of the above post to remove WoR spoilers. This is one of the reasons why a lot people feel that if a focus character is going to die early on and still have flashbacks later, it would almost have to be either Dalinar or Szeth. I'm of the opinion that Kaladin is too central to the story at the moment to kill. It would be like killing off Luke Skywalker ten minutes into The Empire Strikes Back and expecting Han Solo to carry the film.
