  1. Yeah that's why I said Adolin in the present tense. Discounting Dalinar as he doesn't have them and is fairly unlikely to use them again. Personally though yes I reckon Dalinar was better though Adolin has the potential to be better than he ever was.
  2. It would be cool =) I currently subscribe to the theory that the one he killed was Shallan's brother. In which case he hadn't had shards very long, may not have had them before that mission. I agree that against someone like Adolin, who is possibly the best out of the Altehi at using blade and plate, well, it likely wouldn't go so well.
  3. Yeah, I know he did. But even Kaladin would have difficulty pulling off that move again =) Thing is that I'm not at all certain that thunderclasts have an equivalent weak spot for him to exploit. Hmm, they may adjust those rules. But practically normal swords are just as useless against shardbearers (and probably thunderclasts etc). It also takes a lot of training to handle a weapon well and they probably won't have the time to retrain them all. Beyond that I think it is easier and faster to train a group of people to function to a reasonable degree as a team of spearmen than it is to train them all to be proficient swordsmen. Time, I expect, is going to be in very limited supply.
  4. They were willing to send them to Australia last time (I got a set then). So I expect they would cater for international shipping again. We have a fairly definitive answer from crafty. (last post on the page) http://www.crafty-games.com/forum/index.php?topic=7202.0
  5. That idea I like. But at the same time I'm not sure how likely it is, wouldn't have the same *feel*. Anyway, I'm fairly certain he couldn't use either of his surges to buff his spear. Doesn't really fit with either of them. One other thing to keep in mind is Szeth's last fight big fight in tWoK. He gets rid of his shardblade for most of the fight because he was more effective just manipulating surges. Naturally given that the opponents he was against were very unlike thunderclasts etc there is some difference there. However tossing boulders in to enemies could still be quite effective. Like it was against the first of the two shardbearers. So he would be far from helpless.
  6. Yeah I've been assuming that too Kadrok. Pretty much every author puts an alter-ego in their books.
  7. Ah right, missed that. I don't think the 3rd Edit was there when I first read it.
  8. Just something I think is worth mentioning by your theory. You have talked about the situation where a pulser is extending a field with a slider's field inside. However it is *theoretically* possible to have a bendalloy bubble larger than a cadmium bubble. (Really powerful slider really weak pulser). In this case by your theory the bendalloy bubble would actually be getting substantially less power than normal, so might collapse inwards until it matched the radius of the cadmium bubble, or get collapse partially and oscillate like the cadmium bubble in the other situation but inwards instead of outwards. Isn't a problem, just worth mentioning I think.
  9. Heh, can't disagree with you on that one. It's a simple point and it should actually make stuff easier not harder
  10. Sorry to contradict again but I really really doubt they have the power to do that. (Though if they could they certainly would have, then again, I doubt they would have been able to anticipate that effect anyway.)
  11. A somewhat more obscure series called "Queen's thief". Some of the best books I have ever read (I've read these several times before ) These are a few books that I actually rate above a lot of Brandon's work.
  12. That actually makes a lot of sense. It is supported by how Shard powers left around with no-one controlling them are very dangerous. I seem to remember Brandon saying that it was very fortunate that Kelsier was still around to temporarily control the power after Leras died. Also Sazed being there when Vin and Ati died.
  13. Are you referring to Dilaf with the revenge part? Because I think we can safely say that he didn't cause it. @Shardlet Honestly I think they would have worked it out but the impression I get is that they didn't really get a chance before they were attacked by non-Elantrians. Beyond that I think a lot or the majority of Elantrians understood how to use Aon Dor but most wouldn't have been scholars. I think we can safely say that there was a bit of panicking when it happened too. From what we know of it I think from a logical perspective a natural event makes the most sense. This being Brandon though I doubt it
  14. Yeah the wave analogy doesn't say anything against your theory =) It was just something I wanted to make clear. I will happily admit here that you have good evidence for your theory and honestly I have little against it. Isomere and Shardlet could be correct. But that would be kind of limmiting (and slightly boring, sorry ) if they are correct. I really hope we get a little more evidence to work with in Shadows of Self. Edit: To most people this probably is a discussion for simple academic interest. Ah the disadvantages of playing a game in a system that we don't know a lot of details for yet
  15. Ah yeah. Sounds like your pretty set then =)
  16. Hmmm. My first response was, cool idea but I doubt it. Thinking about it a bit more there might be something to this. I don't think that Kaladin feeling better was anything more than a nice gesture. But there might well be something important about rock on Roshar that we aren't aware of. Let's review: (some of this you already mentioned and I've just added detail to or briefly mentioned) The Shin consider rock holy or something. We don't know why or much more details but Szeth describes so much as walking on stone as profane (from memory, I'll check the quote). Also note in the interlude with the traders that the soulcast metal is hugely valuable to them as it was made without breaking rock. Also note that rocks seem to be very very important to the horneaters as well. There's the example of Rock's name which you mentioned, but I'm fairly certain (again I don't have the book with me to check atm) that there was something special about rocks to his people. I think it might have been hinted at when one of the other bridgmen commented on the Horneaters eating rocks. Another thing that probably isn't really evidence, but thunderclasts, from Dalinar's vision from words of radience. Appear to be made by some sort of spren or something bringing rock to life. I didn't see any indication in the vision that it was something like a fossil being animated or anything more than the spren thingy quite literally making the body out of rock. Also from the quote from the start of Way of Kings as he walks throught he battlefield noting the holes in the ground where thunderclasts had "ripped themselves free". It comes together to suggest that maybe there is something that we don't know about it. *shrug* there's my thoughts.
  17. Ok, didn't dwell on the anchoring because I figured there was something you were thinking of and it isn't really the point here. I can definately see where you are coming from. I'm still not sure I agree with it though. Partly this relates to thinking of the time differences caused by the bubbles as waves. If you have a crest from a wave going one direction and a trough of equal depth going the other, when they overlap they effectively cancel eachother out without losing any of the energy of either. Obviously that doesn't fully explain it due to actual time differences and time messery but that should help show how I envisage the consequences of overlapping. Another element to consider is that the power is a bit of a nebulous concept. It's not a direct, Marasi has x power and she uses it at the same rate so it all has to be going somewhere. She burns metal at a certain value which acts as a pathway to use Preservation's power. So it's tapping that power as needed and it is perhaps concievable that it would use up less in that situation. Sounds unlikely to start with, but remember that compounding is a method of getting differing amounts of power from burning a set amount of metal/power. (pardon me if I step over stuff you already covered in the other thread with this next bit, hopefully I'll have the time to read through it properly shortly) Another point to remember is that the bubble notably doesn't fully tie to the allomancer once created. Sure it will collapse if they leave it, but it remains tied to a certain point relative to the planet (or to whatever else). This suggests that while the allomancer is responsible for creating the bubble its continued existance/function is partially dependant on something seperate to the allomancer. Which supports the idea above. Don't get me wrong here. I'm not saying that what I have there is at all conclusive evidence. Just trying to explain the uncertainties which are part of why I don't think you are neccesarily correct. My gut feeling is that the bubbles won't oscilate, but it's still entirely possible that you could be on to something.
  18. Interesting, and it definately needed its own thread A couple of things: Unless I missed something there is no reason it would travel with the ship. Bendalloy and Cadmium bubbles remain stationary relative to Scacdrial right? The fundamental part of your argument here is that nesting the bubbles would result in essentially a power surge to one of them. I'm not sure that I agree with that. In the example situation where Marasi and Wayne are both burning (and we are assuming that they are having equal effects on time, say 10* faster and 10* slower). I agree that her burn rate would not change relative to her. (going by the book from her perspective each charge would last 30 minutes and Wayne's for 5 by his perspective.) Given the overlapping bubbles in this case they would both be in "realtime". Let's take a step back and talk about a "normal" situation with just the one bubble. If wax set his bubble to increase speed by 10* inside his bubble, 1 charge of his/5 minutes for him would be .5 minutes outside (30 seconds). In Marasi's case her normal 30 minutes for her (slowing time by 10*) would be 300 minutes "realtime". So back to the overlapping bubbles with them standing together in the middle. They would both be experiencing time at the same rate, which would be the same as realtime. So if they both burnt for 5 minutes, anyone outside Wayne's bubble but inside marasi's would only experience 1/10th of realtime, so 30 seconds, and anyone outside the bubble would experience the full 5 minutes. I personally don't see there being a change in bubble size or strength as you suggest. (I could, of course, be compeltely wrong )
  19. Not sure that it was ever specified in the but I had the feeling he would wear full black when he knew he was going on a raid. The rest of the time he wore a normal nobleman's suit. If you are going for a "Kelsier on a raid" look you could also get a cloth belt with spots for coin pouch/metal vials/glass daggers for completeness =)
  20. True, so it will be harder to get all the details. But on the flipside it will be far more focused on cosmere stuff, so in theory we should get more from each one that we do get. Anyway. Yay. Thankyou Soother. =)
  21. Ok, that was stupid of me. I read the first page a while back and forgot. Nevermind.
  22. Do we actually have any examples at all of a time where Feruchemical gold ejected something? Because in every example I can think of it only healed it over and kept the body functional despite it.
  23. @Pechvarry It's no worry, phone controls can be darn finicky when there are buttons close together =) (and thanks Kurkistan)
  24. True its not an, ideal, process. Due to the rather drastic side effects I don't think you would get many people going for it. But, the advantage of it over haemalurgy is that you don't need to steal the power from the target, you actually replicate it. So I could imagine some obviously bad guy taking someone with, um, limited mental capacity who could store identity + some other allomantic or the rest of the feruchemic powers and essentially creating an army of clones of them from ordinary people.
  25. Given that and I am pretty certain we had confirmation that it was possible to access someone else's metalminds, through haemalurgy if no other way. Now, what happens if you tap a ridiculous amount of someone else's identity and Feruchemical gold at the same time. It could, in theory, change you to be like them. Now we don't understand identity really at all. We just know that there is a lot about it that we don't know yet. SO, lets take things a step further and say the person who's identity they are tapping, was a mistborn, had been for a long time, fundamental part of who they were. Given that Feruchemical gold can change spiritual, it could, in theory *fix* the persons spiritual dna to make them a mistborn. Edit: ok, mistborn is a bad example because they would need to be a ferring as well to store the identity. But if they were a twinborn it makes more sense. Or a keeper would be easiest as they could store the Feruchemical gold too. Alternatively if the recipient was a bloodmaker already that would make things easier. Obviously this is wild speculation. We simply don't know enough about identity or gold to tell. But even if the mistborn granty bit isn't correct I think it is very likely that you could use this to fix problems that were ingrained to the person, like for example if they had been born blind this method could potentially fix that.
