I haven't been here in a while. I generally come 'round periodically. I try to help somewhat. There are some old faces, still struggling. Some new ones with pains of their own. Hm. Unfortunately, the help I offer is likely insufficient for most of these matters. I can relate, but (in my experience) many problems require the self to be most of the solution. You can lead a horse to water, but you can't make it drink and all that. My worry is that some are becoming stuck in a stasis. An ever spinning echo-chamber of problems. I think another addressed this previously. Having said that, I can't think of any way to word or describe a solution. The mind is funny, isn't it? Now here we have a dilemma. No one wishes to watch people suffer. That's why I'm here, to try to lessen it in my own awkward way. Yet I doubt anything I say will really help you (collectively). Again, an echo chamber. Information ricochets without being assimilated. Makes me feel kind of helpless, and I'm guessing others have felt it too. The best thing I can do is generally sit, listen, and try to offer my perspective. That perspective is proving insufficient. And sitting and listening doesn't herald any extra emotional comfort on a forum. I'm not sure what I had in mind when i started writing this. Usually, I target individuals and give a long as heck paragraph. This is just kind of words. Hm.

Fair. With the correct modulation of pulls, they would have the equivalent though. Or, just pull something towards you: but each time lessen the pull and shift slightly just before it reaches you, pulling it into a sort of orbit. If you do it right, you could accelerate something in a circle around you and basically become a orbital cannon: in the sense that your method of projectile propulsion is orbital acceleration. Or, just be Thor.

Yes. Those are some very goo choices. They'd have a goo time. Apart from the odd scrap between Hoid and Kelsier. They aren't on very goo terms. One more and then I'll UAG/UGA/UAA. I don't know how goo Raoden will be at such a social interaction. I lied. It will be a very goo roster.

"I do kind of disagree with the bolded bit—granted, it may have been because of Ruin's machinations, but Scadrial was messed up after that clash, and required immediate reshaping and repairing by Harmony." In reference to this, from what I know, it was mainly due to Ruin's destructive intent throughout history rather than that specific clash. Most of Scadrial's problems came from Ruin's direct influence (apart from the mists... though Ruin had a major hand in that, though not it's creation) rather than a result of the clash between Preservation and Ruin. That, and the effects that Rashek had caused when he briefly took the power of the Well of Ascension. My point being, I'm pretty sure Scadrial was messed up not due to the clash between the shards, but as you said Ruin's machinations. " Yep agreed! Even in the real world, the more we understand about energy and matter, the more it feels like trying to cleanly define either as its own separate thing is almost redundant at the quantum level. Investiture in the Cosmere is like adding a third variable to that famous equation. As we learn more about its mechanics, I expect it will either come to be defined as: straight-up a third form that 'stuff' can exist as, alongside energy and matter a sort of mirror, where we end up with physical energy-matter and Invested energy-matter (depends how different, realmatically, kinetic and static Investiture are)" Yes, yes! Exactly! Most of the most complex and abstract parts of physics, and I mainly refer to concepts to do with energy and time are simply mathematical frameworks constructed to make predicitons based on previously observed patterns, not a literal representation of what exists! When these abstractions work consistently, it becomes tempting to treat them as physically real entities rather than as tools. This risks reifying concepts that may only approximate deeper, unknown structures, leading us to mistake the elegance and success of our equations for a direct window into the true nature of reality rather than a highly effective, but ultimately limited, representation of it. It blurs the line between model and reality, partially due to our scuppered education system which doesn't clarify that! I've got professors teaching relativity, yet unable to properly prove that time is indeed a traversible dimension using arguments other than those bordering on apologetics ("How can you prove it isn't?"). The reason why these models exist is to allow us to do calculations and predicitons accurately without having to fully comprehend the deeper structures that exist, becuase we have't figured those out yet. We understand the mathematical correlations, but not what the variables actually are. That was a rant, and i somehow deviated from the initially discussion regarding investiture. I wonder if Sanderson will chose to reframe energy and matter to accomodate for investiture. I once argued it to be the "measurement of quantum uncertainty able to be influenced through intent", but that isn't something tangible and physical, which is how it is framed.

Also, I have a similar theory deriving off similar views to this: In regards to the way shards use investiture, how it is warped by both vessel identity and the shardic intent. The example I used was the clash between Ati and Vin. Most shardic clashes have lead to mass destruction. Rends in the realms, the whole shabang. However, Ati and Vin just sort of deleted each other, leaving Scadrial very much intact. I believed the reason for this was the intents of Ruin and Preservation are directly opposed (as also indicated by your scale), leading their investiture-clashing... thing... to also cancel out very neatly. I need time to flesh out the details, but thats the basis of it. Odium and Honor have overlaps somewhat in their intents. They did not cancel out when the shards "touched", leading to the mass destruction shown. They had time to exist and tear each other to pieces.

Beautiful reasoning. The most complete theorisation as to the fundemental nature of the core concepts in the cosmere I have seen so far. I will say that given our comparatively diminutive knowledge of most of the shards, the accuracy of where they stand on your axes is questionable. But, I see no real reason why they would be wrong. I will also say that shardic capabilities would need to be further explored for more accuracy: We know they basically have infinite investiture (or, a large amount at least). We know investiture can be, and shards do, utilise them for a wide range of "magical" effects. However, as to the actual nature of investiture: The logic behind it's capabilties mainly, is not explored yet (as far as I have observed). We've lots of categorisations (potential, kintetic, etc.) but that doesn't explain it's nature. Arguably, energy and forces are in the same manner. Try to define energy. We've lots of ways it can be utilised in equations and extrapolation, but it isn't really a tangible thing (Arguably, waves are "pure" energy according to some, but I disagree with that on the basis of the vagueness of our definitions regarding it). However, the reason why I believe investiture should, and will be, further explained is because it is described as a tangible... thing. With an appearance and everything.

Same here. I try to practice the odd deathgrowl. Thing is, with my personal limited vocal range, it ends up being a weird breathy whisper with a raspy quality.

You might like a song: Static, by Sleep Theory (as indicated by the massive title). "Is it real, can I keep up the fight..." And the one below is a song that's a bit more positive. It is in chinese, and was made for a film(Jiang Ziya, Legend of Deification: Includes a fox-eared girl who feels quite similar to a particular Sharduser who's username is a subtle social commentary in the form of a title of a song by Ado...) but has english subs, so should be fine. Should be.

Oh yeah. Gods is pretty screamy. I'm the same. Its very rare I feel like heavy metal tbh, usually alternative or melodeath. Though I do go for the occasional Cannibal Corpse binge-listening.

Quite alright! Nirvana is great. May Kurt Cobain smile down upon us. Grunge and Alt Rock is definitely fine. I'm starting to realise that most of the shardspeople might not be interested in the more scream-y (Heavy metal) end of the spectrum. Thus, I shall proclaim Rock very much accepted. If I indoctrinate any of you into heavier metal, all the better.

I've been running out of ideas for music to listen to. I know @Verdance is a rock/metal-head, but dunno about the rest of you all. I use the word "metalhead", referring to those who enjoy metal of pretty much all forms: Whether you are on one end of the spectrum, being heavy metal, or the other, being alt-metal/rock. Thats the way I am defining it. If you have your own definitions, good for you. It ain't the one I'm using. Anyways, this is a place for all those enjoying the genre or those curious about it to come together, give recommendations, and perhaps discuss. I don't want any accusations or claims of songs being "fake metal" or stuff like that. If you want a basic summary of what I consider metal, check out Opalinsky's (a metal band and content creator) content. I consider metal a broad, welcoming genre, and I don't think anyone needs to adhere so strictly to the textbook definition. I enjoy music from a wide range of "metal". Some metal songs aren't fully defined as to whether they are rock or metal. If you aren't sure, post it anyways. I like rock. I don't mind. I'll include some rock content as well, if i'm to be honest. Screw metal elitism. To start us off with a question, what are some of your favorite metal songs, bands, or subgenres? I like Melodeath and Alt metal, though am not limited by it. Soilwork, Spiritbox, In flames, Aether Realm, Sleep Token (Ah, thanks to @Verdance), and (this may be contriversial, but it holds a special place in my heart) Enter Shikari are some of my favorites. Sorry You're Not a Winner, I the mask, Tears Don't Fall, I Am Machine, Amongst Stars; Some of the songs I enjoy in particular. Being a Metalhead doesn't restrict you to only one genre. You can enjoy other music. It just means you like metal. I haven't worded this very well, have I? No matter. Enclosed is a link for a spotify playlist. You can songs, if you so wish. https://open.spotify.com/playlist/7wxlExWJW4fb5QnYvFMdm0?si=8227da62a3b6478d&pt=e35c46efd7609b3ba0f08f4c3bf7a04a

I apparate directly above you, plummeting and hitting you as I fall, bringing us both down. I use Wish (DnD 5E) to summon an army of Lichs to aid me in this fight. They plummet as well. TUrns out, none of them know any flying spells. Anyways, the converge upon you midair, allowing me to take the sandwich while you are trapped in an airborned gauntlet of Lichs. I consider how I'm going to get down. Or rather, get down slow enough to not splat onto the ground.

"Thank you. The reason I mentioned how I've been feelings is I firmly believe that I don't need a therapist, I need supportive friends, both online and physically. I'm working on both rn." Then I'm happy for you. If it gets too much though, and you might feel like wanting something further or more specialised, a therapist might be in order.
