  1. If your metagame does not contain tokens, Primal Vigor is good enough. Failing that, just make more use of it than everyone else . But if you're not making use of +1/+1 counters (with Primal Vigor) or counters in general (Doubling Season), then you are by far better off with Parallel Lives - It's cheaper in both mana and cost. Weird to hear Doubling Season's $20 again though. I got mine when it was that price about three years ago, then it went down massively when Modern Masters came out. Didn't realise it had risen again, but I guess it's an EDH staple... Generally speaking, there are two main cards my token decks tend to use and abuse: Parallel Lives and Intangible Virtue. Now, admittedly one of my token decks is based on Saprolings and Thallids (I do not have Doubling Season in it though, that's in my EDH deck), and the other is token/sacrifice, but they still have a lot of cards based on tokens themselves. My Saproling deck, for example. As you can see, there are few Populate cards within it, because Saprolings are a very low-value target for it. Mostly, I abuse Sprout Swarm and Parallel Lives to amass a large token army. Then I buff them with Collective Blessing and/or Eldrazi Monument, and swing in. It's very simple to make tokens work without any mechanics, as you just go wide. My sacrifice deck does similar, though it was mostly made from spare cards lying around so it's nowhere near as strong. To be honest, my Saproling deck is probably in need of retuning anyway, as Thallids aren't really all that strong - They're ridiculously slow and easy to deal with. I don't know what I'd replace them with. Keywords that work well with tokens: Populate, Convoke, Devour and Morbid. Populate only works with tokens, for obvious reasons, but you need the right cards for it. Things like Sundering Growth, rather than Druid's Deliverance. You should always focus on the cards which are good without Populate, not cards which are good with it (having said that, I've got a copy in my Saproling deck because I don't have any Sundering Growths). Convoke allows you to power out spells for cheap, though you need to find the right ones to do it work. Obelisk of Urd is a pretty good one, if you focus on one type of token. Devour is very difficult to get right, but if you can defend the creature you've got out with Hexproof, for example, it can set yourself up very well. Mycoloth produces a lot of tokens the next turn, and Thromok, the Devourer is hilarious when paired with Warstorm surge. I've hit someone for 8100 damage off casting him and sacrificing 90 tokens in EDH (I just wanted to deal massive damage to end the game; my opponent did not have 8100 life). Finally, Morbid just works with the whole 'I don't care about my creatures' thing. You can also take advantage of creature/class types. Saprolings have a few 'lords' in the form of Thallids, mostly, but if you go Soldier tokens, there are even more lords which enhance your entire army. Goblins are another good example which have lots of anthem effects, and generally these effects are more interesting than just +1/+1 - look at Ib Halfheart, Goblin Tactician for example, or Krenko, Mob Boss. Aside from that, sacrifice effects and anthems work really well, as do cards such as Geist-Honoured Monk, who get boosted depending on the number of creatures you control, and produces a pair of Spirit tokens. Generally it's best not to use Sublime Archangel (from M13) or the new equipment in Origins which gives 'Exalted' though, as they give your armies obvious weak-points. Battle Cry is pretty good, if you can get decent creatures with it, as it buffs your entire army when they attack. Equipment also works well, as you don't care if the token dies, as you can snap the Equipment to another copy . Then there's also, as have been mentioned, instants and sorceries which temporarily enhance your team. Generally I would prefer a permanent effect though, as relying on temporary buffs can go badly if they fail. My friend has a token deck as well (his is actually based around Populate) and it abuses Mimic Vat and Fellhide Spiritbinder to copy things such as Trostani's Summoner - The original creature dies at end of turn, but the creatures it spawns survive! And you can also Populate the transient copies as well, for even more things. It's very annoying when it gets into play, very difficult to race or get through them without boardwipes. So when I said 'there are many mechanics', I wasn't referring to Keywords in particular, but general abilities.
  2. One of my friends made (well, proxied) a deck along the same lines. I admit, I generally bowed out of games featuring it, since it really made the games drag on. Tokens are fun, but I don't think there need to be many more populate cards. It's very easy to build a deck out of populate and other cards, as there are so many token effects already that can be used. One card you might want to try is Parallel Evolution: It doubles all your tokens. Better yet, it has a Flashback! Possibility Storm is actually a really easy card to end the game and maybe win with, in casual (if that is what you're aiming to do in the game, of course). With it and Curse of Exhaustion, from Innistrad block, you can lock a player out of the game.
  3. Generation 2: Turn 4 Lord Uethorn surveyed the stands of the temporary stadium he had built for the Allomantic Games. He smiled a little and closed his eyes, listening to the hawkers selling food, gifts, souvenirs of the day. None of them were his, of course; it was far easier to license that out to the lesser Houses, and collect some of the money they made, with barely any of the effort on his part. And then there was his crowning achievement, sitting across, watching the proceedings with an unaffected air: The Lord Ruler, imperiously perched upon the throne Lord Uethorn had placed for him, his ever-present guard standing behind and to the side of his chair. Lord Uethorn motioned to his side, and a runner was sent off. A few minutes later, Lord Elariel had sent entertainers over to the imperial box, and Retleh Uethorn breathed a sigh of relief as he returned to his contemplation. His thoughts were disturbed as the participants lined up before Lord Penrod's desk. Each signed their names in, and received their passes for the events. They were generally aimiable, but looking at them, he himself didn't feel quite so pleased. It was a successful event, yes, but there weren't anywhere near as many people there as he had hoped for. "How are we dealing with some Houses sending multiple challengers along?" Lord Penrod asked, breaking his thoughts for good. "They can just compete, can't they? I'm sure it won't make much of a difference..." "Retleh..." Arandar sighed and gestured to the queue. A dozen people stood there, each emblazoned with a House Artorius broach to keep their mistcloak in place. "They're not the only House to have sent a large number of people to compete." "Eleven of you?" Lord Uethorn asked, exasperated for multiple reasons. "No, no. I refuse to hold this event if one House might take all the winning places. Hmm... We will only accept the greatest score amongst the House then. I suppose it's still unfair, but I did request all the Houses to send all their Mistborn to compete. If they did not do so, then they have only themselves to blame." "As you say, Retleh," Arandar smiled a little before returning to sign off all the contestants. "Shall we begin after I have signed these people in?" "Yes," Lord Uethorn nodded. "I think that would be best." "My Lord?" Lord Uethorn knelt before The Lord Ruler, before rising as he was commanded. "I hope that the Games met, and perhaps surpassed, your expectations." The Lord Ruler nodded. "Yes. It was entertaining to watch. I am pleased to see my nobility making use of and practising their gifts." "If I might ask..." Lord Uethorn took a breath. "My Lord, it would mean a lot to myself, and to the competitors who entertained you this day, if you would take a little time to meet those who scored highest, and to present them with their awards." The Lord Ruler did not respond immediately. "I understand if you have better things to do, My Lord. It was just an idle thought, please don't pay any attention to it." "No," The Lord Ruler responded as he stood up from his seat. "This is an official event, which has shown the Empire the strength of my gifts. I shall grace them with my presence." "I... Thank you, My Lord," Lord Uethorn bowed deeply, concealing a smile in case The Lord Ruler misunderstood. "Lord Penrod is currently keeping the medals at his desk, I shall-" "That will not be necessary," The Lord Ruler replied, leaving the box. Lord Uethorn followed as quickly as he could while still seeming deferential, as well as cutting a wide arc around Raynah. "My Lord, if there is a gift you wish to bestow upon them, then that will of course be worth far more than any medal we could give to them." "Indeed..." The Lord Ruler replied, dismissing the conversation. He took his place before the podium that Lord Uethorn had constructed, and smiled a little as he watched the winning Mistborn pale and stumble over themselves. Lord Penrod looked at Lord Uethorn with a questioning, and somewhat panicking, look, before rushing over and standing by his side, quill and paper in hand to record what was said, and pass it around to those who could not hear, and to hand to House Wair runners to send the message to the very extent of The Final Empire. The Lord Ruler did not pay him any mind. There was silence. "There are no awards for second place, in my Empire," The Lord Ruler declared. He did not raise his voice, but it carried all the same. The Orielle and Artorius Mistborn on the podium very carefully did nothing. Lord Penrod waited for more words to be spoken, but none were. The Lord Ruler snapped his fingers, and Raynah stepped forward. She took from her belt a small vial filled with silvery beads, tipped one out into her hand, and held it out to Rathan Wilson, husband of Adira Wilson. He, in turn, looked at it with confusion, before accepting it with as much grace as he could manage. The pewter, at least, prevented him from falling off the podium. The Lord Ruler nodded once to him, a measure of respect in accordance with his accomplishments. Then, to the sound of Lord Uethorn's orchestra, he left, bodyguard following him. 4. Let's hope this time I don't get sacrificed on the altar. Stupid Hallendrans expecting their gods to die for them >>. Redcross the Healer, who in another life became Wyrm, BioChromatic scholar. His main interests are studying BioChroma and attempting to apply its principles to medicine and healing. In particular, he studies the Divine Breath, and wants to emulate it using normal Breaths if he can to advance healing techniques throughout the country. As a god, he governs the principle of healing, and the study of medicine. His colours, perhaps unsurprisingly, shall be red and white. For people who played LG4: This one's not gonna sacrifice himself to save your sorry hides >>.
  5. I have a similar take on the Resistance game on here somewhere, but it runs rather different to the game itself - Mistrun: In Search of Ruin. That's styled as an SE game with a subgame. Each Cycle, a number of players are selected to make an attack. In the vein of Resistance, they all vote if they want it to succeed or not. If someome says no, a player dies. Thus the idea is that the Eliminators get to potentially kill more players but at a risk to themselves. However, that is still able to be mostly ignored if the Eliminators choose to do so. It would be interesting to see how a fully-fledged Resistance-game worked on here. How would you flavour or run it to be Sanderson? Any additional mechanics from the base game?
  6. Remember to play nice, kids. Not calling anyone out for bad behaviour or anything like that, I just want to remind people not to take the game too seriously. If anyone feels that tempers are running a bit high, or anything like that, please talk to me, before it becomes a problem if possible, so it can be sorted out. Again, not doing this in response to anyone asking me to or any comments that have been made, just want to preempt any possible problems. In other news, the Turn will end in 22 hours time.
  7. Difference between these two games for me (aside from the lack of a win)? This time asking for protection worked . I agree with the points you've made there, Kas - As people can probably tell from the doc discussions we had, and you know from discussions elsewhere. At the very least, this game teaches us a lot about how we players act and how games like this can turn out, and what to expect from them. People who intend to run a faction-based game should take note of them, even if you do run with an Eliminator faction as well as Village Factions. I do take offence at that comment though: I put a lot of effort into my trolling. I'll let you in on a secret; I agonise over each individual troll, selecting each carefully according to its potential, the beauty off the troll, and the amusement gained from it by myself and other players. These are nothing but the finest, hand-crafted trolls that the internet can provide. Each is freshly hand-picked with careful thought and consideration, and then personalised according to the effect I desire, the player receiving it, and the situation that surrounds it. Then it's wrapped up in a wonderful bouquet of words before being lovingly posted on the forum and drizzled in raspberry sauce. These aren't just trolls - They're Heron IndustriesTM premium trolls. I'm so sure of their quality, I even give out a guarantee with each one: If you're not 110% satisfied with your troll, you can ask Kas for your money back (because I sure as hell won't give you a refund).
  8. Expect a PM in a few days then . Same as above, think about what you want your House to have specialised in so far. If you need advice, there will be a sheet posted at the rollover on Sunday with examples of the Public Actions that the players have taken previously.
  9. So... No guesses on that one? In which case, I could throw out a clue: It is a roleplaying setting.
  10. Of course! Though actually that should be August the 2nd, due to the new rollover method. Apologies . I will send you a PM on the 26th to ask how you want your House to start up, so I can generate a few things for you. It'd be helpful, at that point, if you could respond with up to three areas or specific Actions you would like your House to concentrate on. It's not urgent though, as I won't be setting it up until the 2nd, as I need to know how the other players' Houses are shaping up at that point first.
  11. Don't beat yourself up about this, Kas. None of us caught the issues that lead to this situation until well into the game, so the 'blame' isn't yours alone. As you can probably tell, I wouldn't even use the word 'blame' here, because it's not helpful and I don't think you or anyone else is at fault for this situation. You dealt with this as best you could, and I think you dealt with it well, considering the unfortunate circumstances that led to this. You were a good GM, answering questions and present when you were needed. I know how much you've agonised over what to do this game, and you should know that I feel you did well, and I think most of us would have done something similar in your situation. It's not a bad idea to call the game either, considering the situation Discovery's in and your workload. I've said this for almost eight years, whenever I've talked to people who are busy online, and I'll say it here again: Life comes first. Ultimately, this is all for our enjoyment, and sometimes sacrifices must be made. You didn't expect the game to run this long, and so I feel it's perfectly fair for you to call an end to it. Considering how much it sounds like is going on over there, I think we would have been perfectly understanding if you to called it earlier, so you could get things in order. We don't blame you for it. But regardless, it's over now, and you don't have to worry about it anymore. Once again, don't beat yourself up about it. Mistakes can be made, and so can oversights. That's fine. But as I've told you multiple times already, I don't feel you have to leave the SE community. Perhaps take a break while you deal with your workload, sure, and maybe wait before thinking about GMing again, but I think know a lot of us would miss you if you stopped playing games for the foreseeable future. So as I've said, don't beat yourself up about it. It's not your fault, and none of us are going to hold a grudge over this. Thank you for running the game for as long as you did. I enjoyed it, and I had a lot of fun being on the hidden team again, despite my early demise.
  12. You do not need to use an action for this. Also, it's been brought to my attention that specific Respect and Infamy levels should be publicised according to my rules, as well as the Actions which lead to them. I will therefore at some point be posting a link to a spreadsheet with as much public information available (mostly public actions, events, respect and infamy) on it as possible, as well as links to previous writeups. This will be updated at the end of each Turn, and the link included in further writeups.
  13. So... I did have one of these. 'Lawmakers get shown multiple times that those who make the laws are always behind new technology'. Unfortunately, after mentioning it to Kas, I never told him the answer, and I've now forgotten it, and I can't answer my own bad description :S. If anyone guesses at that, it would be very handy so it can stop being on my mind . So, casting around for something new... 'A dragon turns out to be eligible for kingship, but gets killed after being crowned.'
  14. Note that the game gets new people playing at the beginning of each Generation, rather than just joining in immediately. The next Generation begins on the 1st 2nd of August though, in just under two weeks, so if you want to sign up, go ahead . Wouldn't be too much waiting involved
  15. Correct, but you get a better match-up, and thus more Allomantic Strength (though it costs a little Wealth) if you do it manually.
  16. Blue/Green is fun to play, just because of the number of tricks it can involve. Admittedly, most of the time I play Blue/Green, it has additional things in it (Black for Sultai self-mill, Red for Temur Morph (it's only really got Akroma in for Red, sadly), and White for my Golem deck). With regards to previous DotP games, there were buttons (the control button) which let you change which lands became tapped. In the newest version, you choose when you cast a spell, rather than having it default and then let you change. And the deck-building choice was deliberate on their part - They don't want to cut into paper MtG or MtGO, and it did help to create a solid and balanced metagame online at least. But really, Wizards is just terrible at creating video games these days. They don't even consider Hearthstone, another online card game, to be a competitor because it's a casual game compared to MtGO. That should tell you everything you need to know about how much these guys know about their market and what it wants.
  17. I'm considering it as a business venture and thus usable as an Action.
  18. It's... Alright. An improvement over the previous iteration, but... They've still got the arbitrary rarity restrictions for decks (showing they know and it's intentional now that cards get stronger as they go up in rarity...) and there are a lot of key pieces missing from decks. Most of the people online either play BR aggro or WB enchantments, as they're the only viable decks when you start out, really. Its missing cheap, multicolour ramp (a Rampant Growth would be incredibly useful), stronger elves, three CMC creatures and cheap counterspells. It's also plagued with bugs at the moment, and the customer services team seem to be incompetent and now willfully ignoring my updated report. But... It is fun, because I am indoctrinated. I'd say it's still not a real competitor to Hearthstone yet, but it has potential. Green/Blue tends to be a bit of an odd combination. You have the colour that cares least about creatures combined with the colour that cares most about them. Traditionally, what you usually do is counter their stuff (Mystic Snake!), ramp and play big creatures while ensuring your hand remains full, possibly also abusing Prophet of Kruphix. The other traditional route is Simic with +1/+1 counters and maybe Proliferate effects. This is my Simic deck, my second oldest deck. Essentially the strategy is to get Champion of Lambholdt out and get counters on it to make my stuff unblockable (or use Nylea and her Bow to achieve basically the same effect), but there are a few other synergies that can be abused. Young Wolf + Zameck Guildmage = Young Wolf can die multiple times, and you get to draw a card off it, all for the low price of UG. Very handy for turtling. Fathom Mage + Increasing Savagery = Fathom Mage gets +5/+5, and you draw 5 cards for 2GG - or +10/+10 and 10 cards for 5GG on the Flashback! Definitely full of value there. Prophet of Kruphix + Momir Vig, Simic Visionary = This just ensures you never run out of creatures to play via Prophet, as a lot of the creatures in the deck are both Blue and Green. Combined with Fable of the Wolf and Owl, you very quickly fill the board up. Master Biomancer + Rite of Replication (Kicked) = Each token comes into play with 2 +1/+1 counters from the original one. Any further creature you play then comes into play with 22 +1/+1 counters . While I don't play it much (as I have a lot of decks which I rotate through) it's a fun deck, even if it does get a little mathsy. It rarely runs out of cards, with all the draw options, and I very rarely have mana issues. it's probably the most consistent of my decks.
  19. Everyone loves Slivers, but only until their playgroup finally discovers boardwipes . But as people on here seem to like Sliver decks, let's have one of my oldest decks in its current form (it took me many months to get those shocklands...): Sliver Hivelord EDH (WUBRG) General strategy? Abuse Sliver Hivelord's brokenness to make your Sliver army practically immune to anything boardwipeish. Snap Lightning Greaves to it. Your army becomes nigh-impossible to deal with as you continue to swarm the board. I'm surprised you followed that pattern. Theros was heavily flavourful, but the majority of players felt it was lacking in both mechanics and power level. It was also kind of 'obvious' flavour - We all know Greek mythology to a certain degree, so it was kind of relateable. Tarkir, on the other hand, was based on mythologies from Asia, so it was less obviously flavourful. It is, however, generally seen as a better draft environment with more interesting mechanics (Morph!), and unquestionably has stronger cards in it. I pulled a promo Nissa at the prerelease. I'm not quite sure she's as strong as people are saying, but then I don't play Standard, so I'm probably wrong. I did just sell her for £30 though >>. In other news, anyone else been playing the minor disaster that is Magic: Duels? I'm finding it fun enough, but I really don't like the starter pack selection they give you. I think it's really lacking in midrange cards and ramp. Currently I'm usually playing Green/Black Elves, Green/Blue 'ramp' (I am missing every copies of Nissa's Pilgrimage...) and Black/Red sacrifice/burn. So much aggro and enchantment online though... And not enough low-costing kill spells for control. Seems like it may go the same way as Hearthstone. I like the addition of dual lands though, that's quite nice of them.
  20. Generation 2: Turn 3 Rolan Queade sighed as he banged his gavel to signal the end of the current trial. He looked at the great clock that had been installed in the courtroom. Five in the afternoon. Good, the day was about over. Certainly they couldn't fit another one in, not if he had anything to say about it. He groaned a little as one of the clerks ran over towards him, almost tripping on the steps up to his desk. "What is it?" Lord Queade hissed under his breath. "Stop making a fool of yourself. Straighten your suit. Speak." "Uh, My Lord... That is... There is..." "I commanded you to speak!" "The... The Lord Ruler's carriage... Is outside the courtroom. Parked outside." "What?" Lord Queade dropped his pen and leaned closer. "Are you certain? Is he in there? Go and check! No, I'll do it myself." Without wasting another second, he headed off, out the side-door, down the stairs, through the foyer and outside. The clerk was, unfortunately, correct. The black coach of The Lord Ruler say outside, exuding a menacing aura where it sat. Lord Queade straightened his tie out and approached it. He knocked gently on the door. "My Lord? Can I help you, My Lord?" A few seconds passed, and then the window of the carriage was slowly wound down, the servant sitting back out of the way. Lord Queade found himself looking up at The Lord Ruler, who sat straight-backed and imperious in the plush leather seating. Rolan tried not to look around the carriage, no matter how hard he wished to look away and not make eye contact. "My Lord," he rattled off, "this is a pleasant surprise. What, if I may be so bold as to ask, may we do for you here?" The Lord Ruler smiled a little. "I merely wished to observe justice being done." He looked out, beyond Lord Queade's head. "It is a magnificent building. Khlennium architecture, if I remember correctly." "My Lord?" Lord Queade asked, puzzled and slightly thrown by the comment. What was 'Khlennium architecture', exactly? "I... I apologise, My Lord, but if you wanted to observe a trial, I am afraid you have visited us slightly too late in the day. I am currently closing the last one today. If you would like, I could give you a list of all the trials due for the next month, so you could pick a case that interested you to watch, My Lord?" "...No," The Lord Ruler shook his head slightly. "You are incorrect. You still have one more case." Before Rolan could voice his confusion, the servant sitting opposite The Lord Ruler leant forward and passed out a few sheets of paper to the perplexed noble. "The 'defendant', as I believe you call them, shall be brought before you soon enough. Return to your courtroom." "...Of course, My Lord. As you command," Lord Queade nodded. The clerks, barristers and staff could not complain about the extra hours - how could they refuse, knowing that The Lord Ruler had mandated that this trial go ahead. And none wanted to be the first to leave and to go past that imposing black carriage outside the courtroom gates. Lord Queade sat back at his desk, flicking through the papers nervously. He hadn't even read them. A few words jumped out at him, but he didn't think about them. If he started to pay attention, he'd actually have to accept this was happening. The longer he could extend these blissful seconds, the better. Like a gust of wind, the doors to the courtroom opened without anyone seeming to open them. A Mistborn using steel to throw them open. Overly dramatic? Perhaps. But it got the attention of the other staff, the ones who had never seen Allomancy used so closely. A tall, female figure in a black Mistcloak entered into the room. She was quiet, but determined and unafraid. The Lord Ruler's enforcer was leading a cloth-hooded woman into the room, arms and legs manacled. She was being pulled along by ironpulls, stumbling with each step as she tried not to fall over and end up being dragged. "...Raynah," Rolan nodded to her, carefully leaving his face void of any emotion. His once-sister nodded back, and said nothing. There was a scowl on her face, but from what he had heard, that was more-or-less a permanent fixture. She sat off to the side, folding her arms and watching him carefully. Lord Queade cleared his throat, and wiped a little sweat from his brow. "Well... The court is now in session again. The defendant is Lady Kliss Tormander," he said, as the hood was removed, "who stands accused of fraternising with Terris-skaa in the Terris dominance. Lady Tormander, how do you plead?" "'How do I plead?'" Lady Tormander replied, disbelief in her voice. "Innocent, obviously. This is an utter lie, designed to discredit me and my House. And I demand my metals returned to me immediately!" Lord Queade nodded. "Very well then. You may present any evidence you may have to prove your innocence, though we cannot return your metals for the moment. It is not out of the realms of possibility that you might sooth or riot us to trick us into believing your innocence." "As if I would need to," Lady Tormander replied. "My evidence is simply this: You may ask any of my House, and you may examine my affairs in Tathingdwen," she ignored the snort of laughter from the gawkers watching, "and you will see that I would not have and could not have done this." "I suppose that is all we can ask for," Lord Queade said, though he was unsure. He'd never had to deal with any other head of a Great House in this room before. He looked at the documents before him. "I have testimony from members of your House and the community before me." Lady Tormander nodded in response to that, a hint of smugness in her posture. "Lady Raynah, your evidence against the defendant?" Raynah stood up, looking over at Lady Tormander before returning her gaze to him. He felt as though her eyes were boring holes into him. Eventually, she spoke softly, though not quietly. "I observed Lady Tormander in congress with skaa in Tathingdwen at The Lord Ruler's behest." She sat down. "...Then..." Lord Queade nodded. He couldn't say anything about that, could he? To do so would be to question The Lord Ruler. "Then I find Lady Tormander guilty. The Lor-" "How dare you!" Lady Tormander interrupted, vitriol written across her face. "The word of The Lord Ruler's bitch is all that you require to condemn me, is it? This is an utter farce! How dare you accuse me of such a thing, and how dare you act as though you can judge me for it! You also sleep with skaa and see nothing wrong with it!" "I have been asked to judge you on the behalf of The Lord Ruler," Lord Queade responded, a little tiredness creeping into his voice. He did not respond to the accusation of Lady Tormander, as it was obvious to all else there that it was very different for male nobles. "My authority comes from him, and my word upon this matter is as his. He has decreed that House Tormander is stripped of its Keep, its possessions, and the life of Kliss, no longer of House Tormander, is forfeit." He banged the gavel, and turned to face Raynah again. "You may take her to her execution." "I shall do so," Raynah nodded as she stood up again. She burnt iron, and Kliss - no longer Lady Tormander - lurched towards her, only her hands and knees, hitting the floor with a thump. Despite Kliss' protests, Raynah pulled her up by her hair. From her Mistcloak, she produced a thin, silvery, handle-less sword blade. "Wait, wait!" Kliss shouted, trying to push Raynah away with her manacled-hands, but she was no match for The Lord Ruler's enforcer's pewter-enhanced strength. "Raynah, I must protest!" Lord Queade said, getting to his feet. "This is a court of law, not a place of execution!" "I have my orders," Raynah replied, thrusting the blade through Kliss' eye, into the back of Rolan's desk. There was screaming, and blood, and then all that was left of Kliss was a corpse. Raynah removed the blade and pocketed it. Kliss' body slid down the desk, a bloody trail left behind. Raynah turned away and started to leave the courtroom, all eyes in the room following her in silence. The silence became too much. "Raynah!" Rolan shouted, vaulting his desk in an undignified manner and rushing up the central passage. When she didn't stop, he grabbed her wrist. She paused briefly. "Is this really... Is this what you do now? You execute his enemies in public like that? So... gruesomely?" "...People need to learn," Raynah muttered, pulling her hand away from him and leaving. Rolan grimmaced as he watched her leave. Someone approached him. "What?" Lord Queade asked harshly, far more so than he intended. He took a deep breath. "What?" he repeated, less angrily this time round. "My Lord... We looked away for a moment, and... Well... The body's disappeared." Lord Queade turned around. Where Kliss once was, only a bloody streak now remained. " Kandra," he muttered. Generation 2, Turn 3 has begun! It will end at 6 PM BST on Saturday the 25th of July. Turn 3 will begin at 6PM on Sunday the 26th. The Only Joe has left the game. His Properties have been divided up amongst the players new to Generation 2. To reiterate from the post above this (which has now been hidden): 'I've been a little lenient with a few players and the timing (and nature) of their Actions this Turn, since I've been absent. But the Turn is now closed, and no further Actions or modifications will be accepted. A few players are also not publicising everything about their Public Actions. It's nothing major, but you should also state the numbered action this is, in case of conflicts for certain things. I had considered the Allomantic Games that House Uethorn is trying to run to be an Event which I will talk to each of you about individually, but I could just tell you on here rather than rattling off 20 PMs. As it is a large event (and there aren't 24 hours left in rollover), I shall be making it a focal point of G2T3 - or a Global Event. Preparations (i.e, the costs involved) will be done according to Unodus' Action during this Turn. The event will take place at the end of Turn 3, and I will require each House to give their reaction to it. This will not require an Action on any House's part. If I do not get a response for this by the end of Turn 3 from your House, I will assume you are ignoring the event and not sending anyone towards it. For the sake of clarity, I will also note that the Houses that do compete - and their standings in the contest - will be publicly known.'. Children born this Turn: Finn Urbain (male), Lucy Uethorn (female), Beskha Farrsolin (female), Doran Artorius (male), Rowna Queade (female), Artema Erikell (female), Valeri Penrod (female), Naryan Garde (male), Cladent Vinid (male), Casper Heatherlocke (male), Rikor Zerrung (male), Anaximander Heron (female). People seem to be really wanting Tier 3 Goods to be a thing, it seems. I shall be thinking about how to handle this. Generation 2 Player List PMs have been sent out.
  21. The Turn will end in roughly 5 hours. Remember that I will be away for those five hours. The next Turn will begin tomorrow, 24 hours after this one ends.
  22. A trio of reminders: I am basically going dark for the next two days from now on. I will not be able to answer that many questions during that time. I cannot answer questions on Saturday either (well, for about 6 hours before rollover), so early actions = good. Finally, remember that the Turn ends on Saturday this week and from now on, but also that the next Turn does not start until Sunday, 24 hours before it begins. I'm not going to close the thread or stop you from talking to one-another (ignoring the fact that I physically cannot do that) between Turns, but remember that you won't know any of the results of your previous Actions or things that may have happened to you beyond your control.
  23. Another Sandman-inspired game, though mostly tangential to the plot of the comics themselves. A lot of the fluff at the beginning is based on the comic (though not lifted out of it). The Cereal Convention of '89 (QF) He didn't think there would be so many of them. He was a mighty hunter and woodsman, powerful and unafraid of anything that nature could throw at him, but waiting in the wings of the stage, he could feel his heart beat faster. He was afraid. Stage fright was not something he was used to. Pull yourself together, he thinks to himself. Don't ruin it and go to pieces now. You're better than the people who do, you know that. You're the chairman of the Convention Committee. You set this all up. You just helped out last year, but this time it's all you. This is your moment of glory. Step up to the podium. That's it... Deep breath. Begin. "Uh... Hello." There is silence. He coughs and takes another breath. Okay. Showtime. "Hello everyone. It's great to see so many of you out there. I see a lot of familiar faces, and quite a few new ones as well. And not just from America, either. Some of you have flown in from all over the world for our Convention." "For those of you with us for the first time this year, my name - well, my media image - is Sawmill. You can probably guess why, right?" A few laughs. Good. "And before we get down to all the events, there are three rules that I have to tell you all. And it's important that they all get followed, if we all want to be here again next year." "Firstly, don't use your real names. Use your preferred moniker or whatever the media has dubbed you. No civilian names whatsoever, okay? I don't care if you're okay with having your name out in the open, but we do not want that happening here. If one of us gets into a sticky situation, I don't want anyone else going down with them." "Secondly, we don't defecate where we eat. We know that, and we're all alive and here today because we follow that rule back home. Well, that goes doubly here, when so many of us are at risk from any slip-ups. Nobody does any collecting until the convention's over and we're all at least a hundred miles away. In particular, I don't want anyone coming back to this hotel afterwards. Not when they've been so good to us. So remember, no ties to us at all." "Thirdly, I've been informed by a trusted source that there may be some undercover journalists sneaking in here to do a story on us. Well, we don't want them finding any dirt on us, right? And if anything does happen, we'll have to deal with it with tact." "Now that the formal stuff's out of the way, please enjoy yourself. Sign up for any of the panels that interest you, if you feel like we could benefit from your experience. We have a select series of films being shown in the hotel's cinema, and food will be available at all times in the dining room. Sample everything on offer, and enjoy yourselves at this year's convention. Thank you." General Rules This is a standard 1-Turn-per-Cycle Quick Fix game. Players may or may not have any of the Roles. The Cereal Enthusiasts win if all the Intrepid Reporters are dead. The Intrepid Reporters win if they outnumber the Cereal Enthusiasts. A lynch will occur each Cycle, killing the player with the most votes, or a random player with the most votes if tied. If there are no votes, a random player will die. Each Cycle, one of the Intrepid Reporters can use their Action to Investigate a player and have the police show up to arrest them, taking them out of the game in the style of an Eliminator kill. They can also (as a group, without using an Action) post one newspaper article each Cycle for the write-up. Players may undertake one Action per Cycle. Roles Kidnapper - You can choose one player each even Cycle and lock them in the boot of their car. This prevents the targeted player from posting in the thread or taking Actions during the next Cycle. The player cannot be lynched that Cycle (as they aren't present). The kidnapper can then use an Action that next Cycle to kill their captive. If they do not, then the kidnapped player escapes and returns to the game. Pillar of the Community - You are known for being a family man, a regular church-goer (or of another denomination of your choice), excellent neighbour, and all-round nice guy. As such, the police see nothing odd with you the first time you are Investigated. You may also use your Action each Cycle to have your vote count for double that Cycle. Forensics Specialist - The best criminals are often people who supposedly work for the law. As you know all the tricks of the trade, you may plant false evidence for Stalkers. You may choose two players (who must be different but can include yourself) each Cycle. If the first takes any Actions that Cycle, they cannot be discovered, and if anyone Stalks the second player, it appears they did the first player's Action instead. Stalker - You may follow a player for the Cycle, and discover any Actions that they take that Cycle, or that a Forensics Specialist makes them appear to take. Black Widow - You and another player are paired at the start of the game, unbeknownst to the other. Your win condition is solely for that player to be dead at the end of the game and for you to survive, instead of the usual one for your Alignment. Diabolist - You may sacrifice yourself or a willing player (who must send in a PM to that effect as their Action, or else you take no Action) during a Cycle. If you do, you may kill two other players.
  24. Generation 2: Turn 2 In the shadows of Keep Tekiel's walls, about half a dozen dozen men and women gathered together. They wore heavy cloaks with large hoods, and each had a belt with vials of metals slotted into it. The only other bit of metal on their persons were the knives they wore at their sides. "Where are they?" one asked, looking around. He spoke in a whisper, as there was no need to speak loudly. Not when everyone here could pick up a breath across a room. "They're late." "What did you expect from them?" Their leader shrugged dismissively. "We all know they're not the best disciplined." "I'm just saying that we need them to be here. Where are they?" He frowned under his cloak. "Perhaps we should go and find them." A third, a female Mistborn, looked up. "No need. I can see metal flying towards us." "What?" Swearing. "Why the hell can you see their metals from so far away? What are they thinking, wearing so much?! We should call this off." "We can't. Do you want to be the one to go and explain we got scared off?" the female speaker asked. "'Oh, we decided to go home because House-'" "Ssh." The leader said. "They're here. Maintain professionalism and stop complaining." Another group of Mistborn dropped down in front of them. The first grinned. "Hey. We ready to loot this place or what?" "We're not looting it," one of the first responded. "We're in and out quickly. We cause as much chaos as possible. Picking up a handful of coins will just make us easier to kill." "Well, whatever. If I'm attacking there, I'm gonna grab myself some lucre. I'm not listening to some coward who's too afraid to attack on his own. We clear?" "Crystal," the leader responded, rolling his eyes. He gave a look to the rest of his House and nodded to them. They were looking out for themselves, not their allies. "Let's get this over with," he muttered as he dropped a coin onto the floor and sailed over the Keep's walls, landing on a guard and slitting the man's throat before he was even aware what was happening. Keep Tekiel's vaults were hidden deep under the keep, and it was the first stop on their tour of the building. It was locked behind a huge and heavy metal door, and the key was nowhere in sight. "We're wasting time here." "We were ordered to come here too," the leader reminded one of his subordinates, "but I think you are correct. We can't break into that without the key. We'll spread out and look for it." "No need for that," one of the second group said with a cocky smile. "Ready boys?" He and the rest of his House's infiltraitors burnt steel, and there was a great creaking noise as the door moved. Then there was a snap, and the door toppled forwards, almost crushing one of them. There was a loud slamming noise as it hit the cobbled ground. "You idiots!" the leader whirled on him. "Someone will have heard that!" "Well, whatever. We'll just fill our pockets and be on our merry way." "No," he replied, pointing up the spiral stairs that led down here. "Mission comes first. Go!" He waited until all of the Mistborn had left, then pocketed a rather fetching ring before heading off after them. They split into small groups and rampaged around the Keep, killing guards without an effort, and clashing with House Tekiel's own Mistborn. One group made their way to the top of the Keep, up to the master bedroom, and were surprised to be confronted by the master of the House, his wife, and a second man, who seemed to be Lord Tekiel's bodyguard, from how the man was standing in front of them protectively. Lord Tekiel muttered and pushed the man out of his way, holding up a batch of coins in his hand. "You invade my Keep, steal from my vault, and kill my people. Do you neophytes expect to survive this?" He threw a set of coins at them and pushed. One of the three attacks pushed back against them, but Lord Tekiel responded with his own push again. The coin flattened in mid-air and bent slightly, held there by the two opposing forces pushing on them from slightly below. "I can trace my lineage back to four of the nine original Mistborn!" Lord Tekiel shouted at them. The coin moved towards him as the other two attackers joined the push, but his wife and bodyguard retaliated with their own, equalling it once more. "I doubt you dogs even know who your father is!" He flared his steel, and the coin shot forward, buying itself in the skull of one of the attackers. "Dammit! Retreat!" "Cowards! Face your betters and your death with dignity!" Lord Tekiel threw another handful of coins in front of himself, and the combined force of his and his allies' pushes sent them flying through the heavy cloak and into the back of a second attacker. His friend hesitated but grabbed the man's arm and set off in a pewter-fueled run. Lord Tekiel held a hand out to stop the other two from perusing. "Let them run. I want them to tell all of their allies of this. " "Is everyone accounted for?" the expedition's leader asked. "Not yet," one Mistborn replied as he looked in from the Keep's great doorway. "We're missing-" Another flew down the corridor, though he was not being pursued. He held a body in his arms carefully despite his haste. "We've got injured. Coin-shot in the back." There was a groan in response from the injured man. "At least I got one of the buggers..." "Hrm..." The leader frowned. "We can't afford to take back injured with us. He'll slow us down if we are pursued." "We can't just leave him here though! Who knows what he'll tell Tekiel." "Indeed," the leader nodded as he drew the knife from his belt. "He can't be allowed to tell them anything..." He slit the man's throat and let him bleed. "Drop him, and let's go." Generation 2, Turn 2 has begun! It will end at 6 PM BST on Saturday the 18th of July. Turn 3 will begin at 6PM on Sunday the 19th. I am now reducing the time for Turns by a day. This will allow me to spend all of Sunday getting things sorted out. In addition to this, it gives me 24 hours to send out any events that may occur, allowing people to send back responses before the next Turn. I will not accept Actions after the rollover begins. ...Having said that, I will be unreachable on the 18th due to a family event (and, to a lesser extent, on the 15th and 16th due to my graduation). I will send any events out at around midnight on the 18th/19th. Of note for this write-up is that I do not give out sensitive information in these things. This should be considered fluff rather than anything specific. The number of deaths and what have you in here is at best rumour and at worse outright wrong. Children born this Turn: Gwynne Wilson (female), Glam Urbain (female), Anders Farrsolin (male), Niran Artorius (female), Rowan Orielle (male), Helen Tekiel (female), Mikhail Elariel (male), Cifan Izenry (male), Tyren Queade (male), Votir Zerrung (male), Octavia Protegat (female), Aniketos Heron (male). I think this coin is fairer, but we'll see how it develops. Generation 2 Player List PMs will be sent out soon.
