  1. But I prefer the other pun I slipped in >>. Very well... All abilities are able to be used an unlimited amount of times, but they can only during the correct Turn of the Cycle, and only once per Cycle. All abilities are active, aside from the ability of Surgebinders which allow PMs, which is passive and cannot be switched off.
  2. Strictly speaking, there is nothing stopping you - Originally this game was based off rankings in the ship rather than Investiture, but I thought it made it not Cosmere enough. Besides, anyone who takes you at face value of your RP deserves everything they get. Story-wise, the Ship takes and gives away powers as and when they're needed anyway. Nothing stopping you being naturally Mistborn but not having it as your designated (and official) power once the game gets underway. Incidentally, the only reason the powers from other books (Shadows Beneath and Shadows for Silence) and Dhakor from Elantris aren't in this game is because I couldn't make them work without making them duplicates of other powers. But I have plans for them elsewhere, oh yes... Thanks. It's my baby . Technically the Forger too, but deputy roles aren't too rare, even though this is done differently. (AI is also my favourite Job in the game this SE is based on, Space Station 13) Oh, and Spectator doc will be sent out at some point to Haelbarde and Kas, as requested.
  3. I'm going to keep my vote on you here, particularly since (as far as I know right now) you aren't being threatened by the lynch right now. I want to know what this gut feeling you had was. I mean, they're a new player. Why are you having a gut feeling (and following it through) for a new player after they've said maybe one or two things? I think I'm starting to have a gut feeling about you here...
  4. Briefly: Technically, not in-character, yes, no, that's a misunderstanding. More in depth: The only restriction on PMs is that they must be done at Night, and a Surgebinder must be alive. ...I guess there's technically also the limit that 17th Shard has on the number of people in PMs, whatever that number is. How about this? There must be at least one player in a PM. I shall be very annoyed if I find anyone breaking that rule >>. Standard PM rules also apply though - No copy and pasting unless it's into a Google Doc because you're a Traitor. I will not. I am basically an NPC, and my only input on the thread between Cycles will be to clarify rules. I ummed and ahhed about this for a while before posting the rules, but to clarify, Elantrians can use their ability on themselves. When a Role is Forged onto a player, it is removed from the list of available Roles. As such, if the game starts with two Forgers, there can only ever be, at most, two Forgers. Sorry, Mistborn have no defensive capabilities. They are a Vigilante, not a Doctor. The 'protection' stuff is just basically fluff because they're space cops. Let's put it this way - They're protective Roles, if you only consider protection to be killing threats before they hurt anyone .
  5. In the past, there were many who said that flight through space was a fool's dream. Not because the world above the heavens was unreachable, or thought to not exist (for already people had visited other planets via the Cognitive Realm), but because there was no point to it. Why travel through the void of space to Roshar from Scadrial when one could simply travel through the world of the collective mind and bypass it entirely? Of course, many said that the pursuit of knowledge was reason enough, but in the end what drove the humans of the Cosmere to the stars was the need for raw materials. Scadrial in particular, so advanced and so greedy, ran out of commercially viable metal within five centuries of the world's rebirth. How could the world function without metal for computers, or for structures, or for Allomancers? Metal was transported to the world, harvested from the others. Scadrial became a parasite, a great beast that devoured the flesh of the other planets to sate its ravenous hunger. But the trade was two-way, and as Scadrial grew and grew, so too did the other inhabited planets, their own appetites increasing a hundredfold over the course of a few decades. Eventually, something threatened to give, and when it did, only one of two things could happen: War between worlds, or expansion through the stars. Though tensions rose high between the worlds, co-operation was preferred to outright war. And so began not an arms race, but a space race; war by other means. Governments and businesses alike poured what little they had remaining into research and engineering, designing great behemoths to traverse the astral sea, each with a single goal: To rise above their competitors, and to become the sole entity able to exploit the galaxy's resources. As the situation developed, barriers fell away between races and worlds. Strength through unity and diversity: Forgery to grant powers. Allomancy and Feruchemy, implanted with Hemalurgy to create drives for a ship. Voidbringing to scan for suitable worlds to mine. Elantrians to heal and mend both flesh and metal. Awakeners for all the little tasks that would cost a fortune to employ an army of humans for. And finally, Surgebinders to knit the individual pieces together, and make them a whole. It is the greatest irony that such cohesion only came about through competition. But with competition, naturally, comes about subterfuge. The value of such a project is so high that most, if not all of the players in the game have a budget devoted solely to hacking, copying and deleting the plans of their opponents. In some cases, this silent war has turned violent, with even scientists and engineers turned into casualties. The Heron Industries Mining Concern is at present one of the leaders in the race, but they are beset on all sides. The launch of their first ship has been planned for months, and security has been heavily Invested in. All that remains is to obtain a worthy crew for their ship's maiden voyage, preferably ones loyal to The Heron Mining Corporation, and not to their enemies. Of course, there is a slight problem with this; if any do slip through the net, then it will be down to the crew to find these traitors before they disrupt the mission. The crew will be alone in the depths of space, unable to call on help, with nothing but their own skills and wits to rely on. May Adonalsium help them all. ...It's that time of the year, folks! Yes, that time where Wyrm bites off even more than he can chew than usually and runs an SE game. For those also playing Heirs, I will prioritise dealing with this over Heirs, but it shouldn't come up much due to the Cycles being 4 days each and them having different times. General Rules This plays like a standard game of Elimination. There will be several Traitors sprinkled within the crew, who collaborate on a Google Doc, and the game follows a standard sequence of Day/Night Shifts, with votes being taken in the day, and most actions taking place at Night. Each Day, a lynch will occur if one player has two or more votes, with no lynch occurring in the event of a tied vote. Each Night, the Traitors will be able to kill a player by using an Action. The game continues until either all the Traitors are dead, or the Traitors can successfully overpower and lynch the Captain, either through outnumbering the living loyal crewmembers, or by tricking them and succeeding in voting to lynch him. The game will begin on Friday the 30th of October at 9PM, GM's timezone (GMT). Days and Nights will both take 48 hours each. It will start on a Day Turn. 6. Give me a chance, I've quite literally been at work for 14 hours. I wasn't kidding when I said today would be busy for me >>. And you're not going to be getting much today either, since it's half 11 and I have to be up again in 7 hours. ...Having said that, I then went and wrong some stuff anyway. Oh well. ...The morale of the story is that our Lurcher(s) should listen to me? Seriously, Mailliw's death basically tells us nothing, for reasons already stated. Searching for meaning in the first kill was always going to be a waste of time - I stated this last Cycle, and this is why I said a lynch is necessary to gain information. The first kill is always an experienced player and all it has done is made us go 'Oh, Mailliw was innocent. Maybe this means something,' without being able to say what. There are so many reasons that Mailliw could have been killed (experience/familiarity/misdirection/false confirmation of his thoughts) that the actual reason is probably impossible to decipher. I am concerned by Alvron and Joe both taking part in the lynch of a new player for a very minor mistake. They are both experienced players who should know better than to jump on the mistakes of a new player. And also there's the fact that the lynch basically told us nothing on its own. I find it interesting that Joe ignores the fact that Mailliw's death implicates him too - Particularly considering how well Mailliw claimed to understand Joe. Consider that killing Mailliw after he says 'Joe is innocent, I can feel it' might make us believe Mailliw because he's innocent. Now, I'm not going to vote for Joe here. I'm going to vote for Alvron. The reason for this is basically because Joe has said something so far, and Alvron has not. I want to know why this vote was placed there, and what exactly he hoped to get out of it.
  7. I've spent all day analysing at work, you'll get what you're given >>. Still, I suppose I can take my vote off of IRULELIKESTINK, if only because some > none. I'd hope all our discussion doesn't just die due to this, considering we had a lot of discussions still going on regardless of that. I don't know where I shall place my vote at present. This whole thing with Joe et al seems to have taken up a large part of our discussions. There's a good amount otherwise, but a lot of people have limited their interactions to it only. I'd like to know Mailliw's thoughts about people other than Joe though, considering most of what he's said has been in response to this. I'd also like to know what this whole 'PoJ' thing is, considering it definitely sounds like collusion. Even if it is truly out-of-game, it would be a fairly decent way to throw people off the scent by referring to things outside like that. I suppose my current question is whether we have any real plans going forward at all. By that I mean, is there any way we can turn our Roles to an advantage despite the fact that most are less useful than in other games due to the lack of PMs and a Seeking Role. Basically, can we find an Eliminator using our abilities in any way other than luck from Tin/Gold and a Lurcher? ...I suppose the more final way exists.
  8. Fair enough, Orlok - If nothing else, previous games show I have a big tendancy to put my foot in my mouth. ...But strangely enough, this has only really happened when I'm a Villager? Oh well. I will point out though that my online times have changed quite dramatically this last month . I have to admit, I didn't realise Kas was still playing. I'm wondering if it's worth putting a vote there for the sake of it being Kas, but that would be mean >>. As you may have guessed, I am 100% behind day one lynches. I also question whether it's even possible to get no lynch, considering that all it takes is a miniscule number of players disagreeing. The way I see it, we gain nothing from waiting except a dead player and a loss of a potentially strong Role. The Eliminators are almost certainly going to go for an experienced or dangerous player, and their death tells us absolutely nothing except that which you want to read in it. For example, if Mailliw died (no offence, you're just a very good example here), is it because he has ties with Joe, or has GMed Alvron and Kas as Eliminators? Or is it just that he has played the most games out of anyone here? There's no evidence either way, except for the fact that it's more likely to be the latter. There is also the chance that a player proved themselves to be a threat in the first Cycle, but it's debateable how easy that is. I'm going to put a vote on IRULELIKESTINK, because he voted for phattemer despite saying we're unlikely to see him again this Cycle. I'd like to hear what he hopes to achieve by such a vote when it won't give us any information unless he's actually lynched tomorrow morning.
  9. I am actually legitimately impressed by the amount of discussion generated after 22 hours. I don't think I've ever seen a game where it's happened to this extent. And yeah, Kipper, you need to un-red me in your first post if you want to remove your vote for me. Would be a shame if I got lynched due to an accident (though more acceptable if it was an 'accident', I suppose. Not accusing you or anything, just musing). Speaking of removing votes, I'm removing mine from Venture Mistborn, grudgingly. Even after a poke vote we get nothing from him. I don't like that he's still saying that he's sitting back to see where the game's going (we've had more discussion than ever so far!), but doesn't look like we can actually get any contribution beyond that from him so far. I'm kind of concerned that, with so many people discussing it, no-one noticed the flaw in Joe's plan until just now, when he said it himself. I'm not sure what this says, if anything, but you'd think that with so many people looking at it (or at least, a few people looking at it intently), someone would have noticed. I'm going to put a vote on Orlok, I think, because of his reasoning for voting for me. I voted for Venture Mistborn because I wanted to get something from him, not because I thought his behaviour was suspicious - I know he's not a player who posts a lot. The idea is to draw him in to saying more, or at least get people discussing with regards to the vote. It seems to have worked, I would have said, even if it did mostly get drowned out by Joe's plan. And speaking of behaviours, you know this is what I do at the start of games. If anything, by your own reasoning you shouldn't be voting for me . Edit: For what it's worth, I'm also voting for you because timezones.
  10. Oof, good point. I'd forgotten that it wouldn't even guarantee them seeing their attempted murderer (not that I was banking on it being useful anyway, considering the number of events that have to line up for it to succeed, it was mostly to show how impossible it would be to get proof). For what it's worth, since we are having the old debate. Let's assume 5 skaa for the purposes of easy numbers, and entirely random lynches. If we lynch someone today, we have a 5/26 or 19.2%, as Creccio has said before. If we lynch no-one and the skaa kill succeeds, we have 25 players, and it becomes 5/25, or 20%. Why are people arguing for a 0.8% flat increase to our chances? That is effectively what it is. What does the skaa kill tell us other than 'experienced player X is not a skaa', since that is usually what happens? Kipper, are we going to be at each others' throats again? . You say I call people out for not discussion, and that it would not provoke discussion, but what is this if not a discussion? I voted for Venture Mistborn because he said that he would wait for people to say things, which is basically a pointless post, and ignores the fact that discussion has to start somewhere. I wanted to draw him out and provoke discussion from him. What else could make him say something than someone accusing him, after all? What this has told me is two things: Firstly, you're willing to vote for someone despite not advocating first day lynches (I admit, there may be good reason for that, though I find it interesting), and secondly, you jumped to Venture Mistborn's defence. It might mean nothing, this is true, but evidence like this is what is required if we are to get anywhere. Edit: For what it's worth, and I probably should have said it before the game started - I am now working, so don't expect me to be anywhere near as active as I usually am (no longer loafing around at home all day at university ), and due to work, will not be around on Wednesday. Hooray for staying at work until Midnight...
  11. What can other people say? It's not as though we have any evidence to go off on the first Cycle. Well, aside from what people post. But that's an incredibly reactionary way to play the game. If everyone said that, then no-one would actually say anything. We need more discussion, not less, and it always has to start somewhere. Venture Mistborn sounds like as good a place as any to begin. Also, are we going to have to retread the same debate about whether a first Cycle lynch is a good idea? I suppose it's as much preference as anything else (I don't know if/how one could prove which was better), but if we don't have a unanimous decision, then it's a pointless thing to attempt. Anyone can prevent this by voting, after all. And it's not as though we can Seek the Skaa out either. The lynch is our only real way to find them, unless we happen to get lucky enough for a Tineye to be hit by the Skaa kill and a Lurcher all at once. So discussion is our main weapon - let's use it.
  12. ...I am actually going to have to withdraw this statement. My new computer arrived yesterday. Excitement, wow! I even booked Monday off to play through it all day. ...Except it's been problem after problem after problem. First updating to Windows 10 just massively failed, and I ended on Windows 7. Then it just perma-crashed because it tried to download and install 180 updates all at once. So, reinstall Windows, skip straight to Windows 10. This time it works (turns out there's a bug if you have anything plugged into it...), but updating my graphics card driver (I think) stops it from working. Third time's the charm, right? I've stayed on Windows 7, and I'm updating 10 at a time. Except now, my computer won't actually turn off. If I do, it restarts instead. Thankfully it was quiet enough that I was able to sleep last night, but you can understand how stressful this is. I'm hoping it's a software bug which will be fixed, but... We'll see like all hoping, it was in vain. Going to have to troubleshoot this for a while, and if that fails, phone up tech support and ask if they know what's going on on Monday. But the downshot (why isn't that a word?) of this is that I really don't have as much time this weekend as I thought I did. Saturday was all this computer, Sunday is probably going to be similar, and it may even encroach on my Monday. I'm sorry to say that you're going to have to wait a week for the next Turn. So, tl;dr: Computer problems mean Wyrm has little motivation to do anything other than try and recover some of his weekend. Play will resume and Turn 3 will begin on the 25th at 6PM BST. Edit: For those who are interesting, my computer has to be returned so the engineers can have a look at it.
  13. The Turn is over! See you all in 24 hours.
  14. I swear I'm not ignoring you, I just forgot to respond >>. No, you don't. It's basically fluff/RP. Balls happen every single day in Luthadel, so the only time actions/reactions would be required is if it is in some way unique or special.
  15. I will just say that if enough people join, and depending on who joins, extra MP could be granted to those participating. However, as a disadvantage, it is also possible for you to gain less MP than normal too.
  16. I can categorically confirm that Winter has no ability to grant you extra MP, unless she's trading it away herself. While I may be willing to give out bonuses, it should be made clear that this is not something that has been agreed upon with me yet.
  17. Generation 4: Turn 2 "I am afraid that, due to events in the past, The Sliver is of the opinion that the military and defence of the realm should remain under the control of an apolitical party, rather than risk another treasonous event from occurring. The soldiers are only skaa, after all. It's not as if they have the wherewithal to question orders which may involve attacking The Lord Ruler's own properties. He feels it is best that they remain under the control of the Canton of Orthodoxy." The Lord Prelan of the Canton of Hegemony smiled as he leaned across his desk. "Of course, donations such as yours are always accepted. If you wish to help maintain order in our fair lands, gifts of gold or Allomancers or soldiers are very much appreciated, and will be put to good use by us." Cleo Venture the 12th-and-a-half stifled a sigh and nodded. "Very well," she replied, trying not to sound too disappointed. "I understand that such a topic may be a sore point for you all, particularly when the subversion happened right under your collective noses." Gone was the smile now, replaced by a scowl. "You'll want to be careful with your words, Lady Venture. Things can be made very difficult for a House such as yours, newly arrived in Luthadel. Particularly by my Obligators. You'd do well to remember that." "My House has been present in some form or other in Luthadel before your precious Canton was even conceived of. Just because we have preferred a more quiet role up until now does not make us any less dangerous. It would do you well to remember that. Good day, sir." As Cleo left the offices of the Canton of Hegemony, she almost walked into Senna Queade, whose face was obscured by a large box, though it seemed to be fairly light. Thankfully Cleo was able to sidestep her, preventing the box that Senna was carrying from falling to the floor. "And where are you going then?" she asked, with a little more vexation than she would have liked. She forced herself to calm down. This new Lord Prelan was very irritating. "And what is that you are carrying?" How could she not ask, when the other House Lady wasn't relying on servants for such a thing? Senna put the box down, looking a little relieved for the excuse to do so. "The Canton of Finance has graciously allowed my House to mint coins depicting the events The Lord Ruler and his chosen Mistborn faced at the founding of the Empire. I am delivering proofs to obtain their approval." "And you didn't want a servant to do it instead?" "You're here in person too, are you not?" Senna pointed out. "Simply put, I feel it would be in bad taste to do so via a proxy. This could be one of the most important deals my House makes this decade. Why should I devote anything less than my full attention to it?" "Yes, right," Cleo replied, waving it away. "And this wouldn't have anything to do with the fact that there are rumours of a Steel Inquisitor being present in Luthadel?" "...They are very mysterious, aren't they?" Senna asked, deciding just to drop all pretences. "I have heard only rumours about them, and this is despite my family's connections to the judicial system. I don't think anyone has actually seen one in person outside of this building." "That's probably a good thing," Cleo pointed out. "Considering that their appearance would indicate treasonous behaviour occurring within our city." "Ah, yes..." Senna nodded. "Probably not the best idea to go out of my way to draw myself to their attention, then." "Why?" Cleo smiled a little. "Something to hide from them? Just what have you been doing, Senna...?" "Nothing at all," Senna replied, disappointing Cleo with a lack of an outburst. "I simply meant that they have better things to do than to investigate us honest Houses. Particularly when they could be looking more at Houses Vinid and Erikell... Why they are still allowed to set foot in Luthadel, I don't know." Cleo shrugged. "It's been almost a century since that indiscretion. They are, for the most part, forgiven. As much as treason can ever be 'forgiven'. Certainly the individuals within the House are not blamed for the actions of their House as a whole. Besides," she added, changing track, "You are incorrect about them being only whispered rumour. You should ask Lady Urbain, if your curiosity refuses to die down." "Grace Urbain's seen one of them?" Senna asked. "From what I've heard of them from the Obligators, that must have terrified her. Even the Obligators working for them find them to be frightful. What happened?" "By all accounts, the Urbains were attempting to deliver a shipment of Obsidian to the Steel Ministry, and an Inquisitor appeared to take it off all their hands. The Obligator from the Canton of Resource was furious, but didn't say anything while the Inquisitor was still here. I suppose that's understandable." "Yes, indeed..." Senna nodded. "Hmm. It has been a while since I attended an Urbain ball. My thanks, Lady Venture," she said, smiling as she picked the box back up. "Perhaps I shall see you there?" "I don't think I'll miss you reminding her of that traumatic experience," Cleo said with a smirk. "My suggestion would be to encourage her to drink copiously first for the best effect. It shouldn't be difficult; she's an Urbain after all. But until then, Lady Queade." Turn 1 is always hardest to write for... I apologise to Winter and Quiver for accidentally making their characters gossipers (it's information gathering! >>). Generation 4, Turn 2 has begun! It will end on October the 17th, at 6PM BST. Unfortunately, due to real-life commitments, Blank Fate has had to bow out of the game for now. The buy/sell price of atium has increased to 6/4 Wealth. The plague of unnamed children has appeared again. From now on, I am going to drop the chances of children having powers if they do not have a name. By the way, if anyone can think of something to do with Terrismen servants, please let me know. Generation 4 Player List PMs will be sent out shortly.
  18. ME? Well, if you insist... Though not sure why Lord Kitchener is now an Obligator... Wyrm Heron is ready to do his duty for The Final Empire. He's ready to keep the nobility in line, slay the heretics and keep those stupid skaa where they belong. Plus, it's more interesting than his old job in the Canton of Finance. A little bit of enacting retribution on those breaking TLR's laws seems a lot more fun than adding up ledgers and so on. Small question: Will we be told if bonus metals are added, or will it all be secret?
  19. The Turn is over! The writeup shall be posted around 6PM tomorrow.
  20. You have only 9 hours now to get any remaining actions in before the Turn ends.
