  1. So Weiry's deduction was correct, it seems. Pretty cool! I wonder if one could take a chunk of the Dor somehow (maybe find a way to make a big-enough Seon?) and use that to power Dor-based Investiture on other Shardworlds.
  2. I nominate Argent!
  3. For those who like me totally forgot about that scene Oudeis is talking about, here's what MeLaan said: So, yeah, there goes that part of the theory. It does make me wonder how Harmony feels about this, especially since his servants devised this suicide method after he took charge. Anyway, I hope we'll see in a few months if my speculation about the Set being a group of kandra (and my speculation that Paalm was a worldhopper) bears any resemblance to reality.
  4. Good point. It's an ability that's useful even outside of Scadrian Shardpolitics, for sure. Edit: Except for the part about being dead, of course.
  5. Oh, I didn't say he doesn't know about them. He just couldn't take over them, or locate them easily, because they also have trellium spikes. Why Harmony doesn't tell Wax about it? Well, in that case why did it take a year for Harmony to tell his agents about Paalm going "invisible" and presumably rogue, and only after she has already committed atrocities? I think Harmony has taken these rogues into account and have included them in his plans, carefully manipulating those who think they are free of him, the same way he manipulates his own agents. He gives away information to his agents only as he sees fit, knowing (via his Shardic precognition) how each chess move will play out. I actually had a different title for this thread when I started writing it: Star Trell 2: The Wrath of Paalm, a reference to my previous theory about Harmony manipulating Scadrians, Star Trell: The Final Frontier. Of course, unlike when I wrote that theory, we now have strong evidence that non-Scadrian Investiture is involved in the Trellist conspiracy, but that only makes me more excited to see Harmony's endgame. Because I'm sure he knows more about the conspiracy than his enemies think, and unlike Bloody Tan, they don't know they are still puppets.
  6. While creating the page for the Village, I had trouble deciding whether to use "Village" or "The Village" as the title. Eventually I chose "The Village". My reason is that the "the" is part of the common name of the place. But then, I came upon the articles for the Set and the Diagram, and those one only had "Set" and "Diagram, respectively, for their title. So, should I move my article to Village? Is the convention of discarding the "the" something that was agreed upon by the Coppermind admins? Right now Village already redirects to The Village, but I'd be happy follow the convention if need be.
  7. In the San Jose signing, we got an interesting tidbit from Sanderson regarding kandra: Now if you remember, before Paalm's little Feruchemical Steel trick, the kandra believed that they are incapable of gaining Allomancy or Feruchemy. This means it's likely that the kandra that Harmony sent off to inter-Shardworld errands worldhopped through non-Allomantic and non-Feruchemical means. Perhaps they just used Harmony's Shardpool. Or maybe Harmony gave some of them a Shardic gift of Worldhopping.Anyway, I think it's highly likely that Paalm was one of these kandra Worldhoppers. After all, she is considered one of the most experienced of the kandra, therefore an obvious candidate for such potentially dangerous missions, and she's also very keen on serving Harmony (at least prior to the Wax assignment): Exploring other worlds would have given Paalm practical knowledge that others on Scadrial (except Harmony) might not know about. This might explain why she knew about microbial infections. (Though it's possible that this is common knowledge among kandra, who might be able to make in-depth observations of infections and allergies in the bodies they eat.)If Paalm was a worldhopper, then she probably gained her "trellium" off-world, perhaps while exploring some random desert planet (*hint* *hint*). She may have already been experimenting with "Alien Hemalurgy" even then, perhaps as a backup plan in case her relationship with Harmony goes south. What's interesting is that, in the end, Paalm may not have been the only kandra who had a beef with how Harmony runs things: Unless, of course, she was suffering from multiple personality disorder, or was being possessed at the time.(Edit: As Oudeis said below, the suicide mechanism is something all the kandra know how to do, so "We" refers to all the kandra, not just a certain rogue group. That makes everything I said beyond this point more doubtful. But feel free to continue reading, anyway, as I believe they are still valid speculations.) Come to think of it, since Paalm only seemed to rebel after her fake death, it might be more likely that a group of rogue kandra recruited Paalm after that event. They may even be the ones who originally obtained trellium off-world, and simply gave Paalm a spike she could use. So, to repeat, I'm speculating that there is a group of rogue kandra who would rather commit suicide than be controlled by Harmony. These kandra may have also been part of Harmony's special worldhopping team, but somehow became disgruntled (or corrupted). Imagine such a group meeting in secret during one worldhopping mission, far away from Harmony's reach, discussing goals that aren't necessarily in line with Harmony's plans. On the other hand, if there is such a group of rogue kandra, why didn't they help Paalm during her attempts at revolution? Or did they? First, it's possible that not everyone in the group agreed with Paalm's plans. But assuming such a group does exist, I can think of two ways they may have helped Paalm. 1) they may have helped in creating her Hemalurgic chimera (or they may have lent her a portion of their existing Hemalurgic chimera army). 2) Some of them may have infiltrated the Set to steer it towards assisting Paalm. Let's take that second possibility one step further. What if the Set itself is the group of rogue kandra, invisible to Harmony, wearing the bones of corrupt noblemen and employing human criminals (e.g. Miles and the Vanishers, the gunmen who fought Wax and MeLaan, etc.) to achieve their goals? What if the real Edwarn Ladrian really did die in that accident, and was replaced by a rogue kandra? He'd just be wearing Edwarn's appearance like a man wears a suit... Like a Mister Suit.
  8. Well, Ranette already has a girlfriend (Misra). I really won't mind if Marasi doesn't end up with anyone. I think part of her "quest" is to become known as her own person, not just some nobleman's bastard, not just a convenient connection to a celebrity lawman, not just a prospective wife. Just Marasi Colms. I guess if she gets into a relationship with an unimportant side character, that would be okay, but it might be interesting to see her reject the need for a romantic relationship.
  9. A lot. With the help of Peter, of course. I believe it was Peter who pointed out the irradiation danger to Brandon. *goes to look for evidence* Edit: Found it!
  10. I might be missing something, but aren't Windrunners (Zephyr) and Edgedancers (Lucentia) at vertical opposites in the KR chart? They even have a line connecting each other.
  11. I read part of The Martian when Google Play Books offered me a sample of it some time ago. The sample stopped at Watney's Sol 71 entry, enough for me to know the over all tone and style of the book. I liked it, but not enough to buy the whole thing at the time. After seeing the movie, though, I think I'm going to buy the e-book soon.
  12. I was listening to Argent's Personalization 1.wav yesterday. I didn't catch anything interesting Cosmere-wise, but I was working at the time so I may have missed some things. I planned to continue with the other recordings today but unfortunately I forgot to bring my headset to the office. Is anyone working on the transcript already? I'd love to know about the shade questions that ccstat and Kurk were talking about.
  13. SoS spoilers:
  14. You're right. I should have included that for completeness' sake. I'll be more thorough next time. Did we? "He" was explicitly referred to as Bleeder in the narrative. The Set (who was trying to help Bleeder) then lured Wax away from Bleeder into their trap, so he wasn't able to continue his pursuit. It wasn't exactly clear when Bleeder killed the governor. My guess was after she killed the priest but before Wax found "him" and Drim later on.If I'm correct, then he was still alive at the party. Unless I missed something.
  15. That's my main objection to it as well, as I mentioned above. But I don't have enough knowledge of weather phenomena to even imagine another alternative. I guess I'll just wait for a better theory to come up.
  16. Pffft... I knew someone would point that out. I purposefully left that out because that was the boring solution, and while Brandon sometimes goes for the less awesome route (rarely, but it's happened before), I wouldn't as a rule use that possibility in my speculations. Besides, here's another evidence: Right after Bleeder first uses telepathic communication on Wax in that party scene on top of a tower, she gets chased and jumps out the window. Now, kandra can heal pretty well, but they're kind of useless with broken bones, and broken bones is what one would have after falling from such a height... unless one had Allomantic Steel. Just like in Moogle's example, she had no time to switch between telepathy-spike and allomancy-spike during the chase. So she probably had both spikes inside her already. Edit: So, I got downvoted. I guess I deserved that. I need to remember that what's funny in my mind might sound arrogant to others. I'll let this post serve as an example of how not to reply to someone.
  17. The ability to communicate via a disembodied voice and the ability to not be detected are powers that I once attributed to Atium-Brass Allomancy, but since Bavadium/Trellium is so much cooler, by Sanderson's Zeroth Law I'm going with that instead. (And also, MeLaan stated that Harmony didn't know the metal, so it's probably not atium-brass.) I also believe that Bleeder was using two spikes, and the reason Harmony et al. thought she only had one was because Harmony couldn't detect the foreign god metal. In the scene that Moogle provided, not only does she speed off immediately after talking to Wax telepathically, she can also hear Wax's softened voice from a significant distance during the telepathic conversation: So Bleeder was probably using Tin at the time. So either her "trellium" spike could grant her telepathic ability as well other Feruchemical/Allomantic abilities at the same time, or she was using two spikes. I think the two spikes solution is more elegant. Let me propose another solution: What if there are multiple "trellium" spikes, but Bleeder only uses the rest to spike other people? We know that she created a horde of Hemalurgic creatures. We also know that she spiked that guy who tried to assassinate the governor. What if she used trellium on all of them? So basically, I propose that she only had a single trellium spike inside her at all times and a second spike made of ordinary metal, and that she also had a stash of trellium spikes that she used on her minions.
  18. You might want to check Satsuoni's theory (that I linked to above). He was the first (that I know of) who proposed a non-rotary model of the highstorm, and I'm curious what others think of it.
  19. Hmmm... Brandon once said that the highstorm was based on Jupiter's Great Red Spot. While the GRS is indeed unlike Earth storms, it definitely rotates. Oh well, so much for my theory. I think Satsuoni's theory might actually be correct in light of this revelation, except I'm not sure how a explosion-based highstorm model could account for the highstorm moving continuously around Roshar.
  20. Are we now allowed to add the various revelations from SoS, the new Elantris edition, and the new WoBs to the Coppermind? Or are we supposed to wait a few months to decrease the possibility of spoiling someone?
  21. Well, damnation. Embrace the spoiler-loving life! It hurts less!
  22. Eh, I suppose that works. I'm glad it was intentional, at least.
  23. I'm so happy that the Aons for the other three cardinal directions (and thus the names of the other three Outer Cities) have been revealed. Now I can stop obsessing over it. Also, using anagrams for opposite directions was a nice touch. Oh, and has anyone confirmed with Team Sanderson if there being two Eon provinces was a mistake?
  24. If I'm interpreting @iBooks' last tweet five minutes ago correctly, it seems the Twitter chat is done. Well, that was fast... Edit: Ninja'd by vineyarddawg.
