  1. 209845 cocked its head, but continued walking. Why wasn't this virus fleeing? And also... viruses weren't supposed to talk, were they? They aren't supposed to... but there are exceptions, whispered its subconscious. No matter. 209845 would succeed. It's task was almost over. The pair of viruses that were standing with them took one look at the situation, then turned and ran.
  2. The final virus before 209845 began to howl. Immediately, 209845 tensed, prepared for the appearance of more enemies. But no, the pitch of the call... the virus wasn't summoning reinforcements. In an instant, 209845 was there. It was always there. The virus was wailing for mercy. It received none.Ten. The final virus disintegrated. 209845 looked around, searching for the next target, prepared for the next fight. There was none. The viruses were all gone. Where had they all gone? None of them had run away... 209845 couldn't possibly have killed so many could it? WHERE WAS THE NEXT FIGHT?! 209845 turned to face the sound. It's vision narrowed. There. The virus leaned in, purring harder. Suddenly, a pained screech sounded from behind 17. The product of 209845's work. The virus tensed, then began to growl again. The second virus, standing next to it, began to whimper.
  3. DELETE ALL VIRUSES. DELETE ALL VIRUSES. DELETE ALL VIRUSES. The message echoed endlessly in 209845's head as it faced down the last two opponents. It readied its zappers one last time. The virus on the left was the first to act. It seemed to think for a moment, then lunged towards Réva. PROTECT. 209845 dashed after it, pouring its energy into this movement. Instead of attacking Réva, the virus leapt behind her, putting her between itself and 209845. In some dark recess of its mind, 209845 was amazed by its intelligence. But that dark recess had no control here. 209845 leap over Réva, then blasted itself straight down to land on top of the virus. It never stood a chance. Nine. The viruses didn't respond. They simply took another step closer, to the point where they were basically brushing up against 17's hand. And then, the first virus began to make a glitchy sound that sounded oddly like a... purr?
  4. 209845 didn't respond. In fact, 209845 didn't seem to be responding to anything. It's entire form was focused on the act of killing, and it didn't even appear to be behaving consciously. The four remaining viruses around it, seeing what had happened to their peers, began to wail in fear and run away. A single word echoed in 209845's mind. No. As the first virus began to flee down the corridor to the side, 209845 dashed after it and leaped straight over the beast. The virus could barely let out a final screech as 209845 twisted and deleted it on its way down, then landed to face the remaining three. Seven. The three backed away, whimpering but afraid to take their eyes off the predator. Finally, the first one snapped, and 209845 was on it like an arrow. It raced up to the virus and zapped it again and again, never letting out until there was nothing left to zap. Eight. Two left to go. The viruses's eyes tracked the blade's movements, transfixed. They began to walk towards 17.
  5. One of the viruses noticed Réva and turned to leap at her. That was a mistake. As the virus had its back turned to it, 209845 suddenly leapt forward and deleted it. Five. It hit the ground and kept sliding; as another virus landed instants where it had just been, it leaped to its feet and turned to hit it before it could react. Six. The screams are cut off suddenly as Lati envelops the virus's mouth. It attempts to bite at its captor, but comes up with nothing, and begins to disintegrate. It's howls, however, lasted long enough. As Lati deals with the large one, two more emerge and move to surround the trio.
  6. The virus has no time to even move out of the way before 209845 reaches it. Its screeches reverberate in the caverns as it gets deleted. All the viruses suddenly turn their attention to 209845, and begin to form a circle around it. Two, five, ten. They all converged, targeting the threat. 209845 smiled. This was what it was made for. As the first viruses lunged, 209845 immediately dashed out of the way and struck a virus that had held its position. One. Using the body as cover, it leapt over another attacker and deleted it with the other arm two before landing and striking another in the back. Three. It was a dance, and 209845 was the star of the show. It weaved effortlessly between viruses, deleting them one by one as they attacked it with futility. Strike behind the ears! A voice whispered in its head, and it complied. Four. How had it known that? It didn't bother to stop and think. There was no time to deliberate. There was only the fight. A virus suddenly emerged from the shadows in front of them, larger than the rest. It growled, then raised its throat and began to howl. Calling reinforcements. Two viruses broke off from the pack surrounding 209845 and turned to face her.
  7. The sword rips through the viruses's pixel-flesh, and it screeches and leaps back. As 17 watches, the wound begins to repair itself. The virus on top of 209845 suddenly screeches and gets deleted. 209845 rises, triumphant, but something about it is different. It's light, previously brilliant and sterile, is now glowing an unstable red. It turns toward Réva, and glitches as it raises its arms, both equipped with zappers. "Instant Kill Mode: Activated" 209845 seems to teleport to Réva's location, and lunges toward the nearest virus. Time to even the playing field.
  8. Amazingly, this works. The virus enveloped by Lati began to screech and writhe, seemingly clawing at nothingness. Slowly, its pixels also begin to fade away, until it gives up and releases one last cry before disappearing. The virus that had leapt at her lands, then turns and growls. In response, another growl sounds behind them. A second virus emerges from the shadows of the cave, and the two begin to circle their prey. As she runs, more growls sound as viruses approach from the direction she's heading.
  9. @Argenti@TwinStorm@Through The Living Glass@Bird Furious@echo74@The Aspiring Archivist@Spark of Hope @BlueWildRye As the rest of the party catches up to Jidah, at the three-way intersection, a massive feline-like beast suddenly emerges from around the bend directly ahead. The creature appears to be made of the same material as 209845, but iridescent and shiny instead of a deep void black, and its “flesh” ripples as it releases another low growl. Two more follow behind it. Two more sets of growls alert the party of more of the creatures arriving behind and to their side. The party is utterly surrounded. Suddenly, the first beast leaps straight at Jidah. With unnatural speed, 209845 races in front of her and instinctively lifts its arm and zaps it- For a second, the beast appears to remain suspended in the air. Then, its rainbow colors suddenly flash to black and white. Before the party’s eyes, the beast begins to crumble, pixel by pixel, until fading into nothingness. 209845 looks down at it’s arm in awe. ”Huh. So that’s what a virus looks like,” it says, right before collapsing as it is tackled from behind.
  10. Don’t run! I will ALWAYS protect you ;;;;)
  11. 209845 immediately stopped and turned to her. ”No, no, we can still make it!” And yet, as 209845 spoke, a third cry sounded. And just then, 209845 realized what they were doing. Those weren’t normal cries. They were coordinating their movements. They were surrounding them. “Go go go!!!” 209845 waved the party towards an upcoming intersection, prepared to run after them. They would not die on it’s watch.
  12. *rushes in and attempts to tackle Haly”
  13. 209845 began to move faster. ”I’m sure it’s nothing. We’re gonna find somewhere to set up before they get here.” Privately, 209845 ran the sounds through its databases. Blood wolves, jackals, winions… nothing seemed to match the sound. As if in response, a second howl suddenly sounded from the opposite direction. Closer.
  14. … what is going on in this thread?
  15. 209845 led the way, turning up its brightness settings to illuminate the path. The tunnel was oddly rectangular, and smelled of soil and vegetation. It was a little damp, but not to the extent that it was dripping, and large enough to easily accommodate the party as they descended into the earth. The streaks of bioluminescent moss continued in a perfect pattern, almost as if… As they reached the first intersection, 209845 brushed away a piece dirt from the wall, confirming its suspicions. Beneath the layer of soil and vegetation, consumed and reclaimed by nature, were the remnants of a distinct stone wall. These tunnels weren’t natural; they were ruins, remnants of a civilization long disappeared. 209845 was taken out of its stupor by the sudden sound of bestial howls in the distance. The fox’s warning came back to its mind; they weren’t entirely safe yet. If these were ruins, then there had to be rooms somewhere. 209845 turned to address the group. ”We go left,” it announced. “These are ruins; keep an eye out for doors or entryways of any kind.” 209845 turned back to the crumbling wall, a deep sated need to know more taking hold. Someone had built this, left their mark on this world. Soon, this would all be gone. And yet 209845 couldn’t help but feel a kinship towards its creators. Who are you?
  16. Hey guys

Today I’m going back to school for basically the first time in like four weeks because of MUN, then a short vacation, then post-surgery. At least Fridays are half days, but that also means it’s all the worst classes crammed in and I’m going to have at least one test for a unit I completely missed. So yeah 😖 I’m not ready.

But I’m not here to talk about my problems (well, maybe a little). I’m here to let you all know that I will be offline until the afternoon cause I can’t access the Shard on my school account, and when I get home I’m gonna be emotionally dead.

Side note: The school bus they sent doesn’t even have SEATBELTS! We could die! (Why did that come off so optimistic?? 😭)

      that's awesome

can they do that for AP testing, please? :P

  17. That is… a lot. It’s horrible when you have a million other people trying to tell you how to do your job, especially when you’re a leader. Everyone always comes to you with their own problems, and then seems disappointed when you aren’t perfect in return. But you don’t have to be perfect. And your reaction here is entirely justified. I’m sorry things got so bad that it had to ruin this experience for you. It’s up to you to decide whether to resign or not, but I would think about talking to them about the situation. But that doesn’t have to be now. Right now, you just need a break. You deserve it.
