Hoid Storybook collectionsm vibe check
Qianweilian replied to gryn.heartsmyth's topic in Cosmere Discussion
I agree with @Frustration. I think Hoid was more fun when he was the mysterious character you had to search for, that type that clearly has secrets. Now though, especially after the stint with Jasnah, he just feels like another worldhopper, e.g. Shashara. The mystery and sort of “untouchableness” made the few moments in earlier Stormlight books where he got emotional very impactful. -
That doesn’t make a ton of sense. I don’t have TFE right now, but as far as I recall, the pewter drag Vin and Kel did was around 20 hours of continuous burning. Given the average density of most pewter alloys, that’s about 33 cm^3 of pewter. 33 cm is about a foot, so Vin and Kel would have had to consume a 1 ft^3 of pewter. It makes even less sense when you consider most allomancers use vials with some metal flakes in them. Pewter would be near useless considering its fast burn time.

I find it easier to remember metals when I remember their misting name (e.g. coppercloud).

It's bronze. You're thinking of bronze.

Lightweaver illusions carry weight and mass?

Fair enough. I personally dislike spoilers, but I can understand how others would have a different perspective. -
Lightweaver illusions carry weight and mass?
Qianweilian replied to DoctaDajman's topic in Cosmere Discussion
In Oathbringer, it says it turns out that Shallan wasn’t using Transformation for her illusions. Also, browsing this forum while not being up to date on Stormlight on a thread about Radiant abilities (especially as far back as Oathbringer) is certainly a choice. It’s not something I would do, if I wanted to maintain any sort of narrative tension. -
Aradan Liese, Underground, Unknown He’s right. I really, have a lot to lose here. My life, let alone ever burning Iron again. I don’t know Thav, and he did leave me there. But, Mask doesn’t seem trustworthy at all. I originally thought there was the possibility he was legitimately a good person, and I still don’t really know Thav’s intentions. I can’t just stay silent though, I either aid them or don’t. Aradan took a deep breath and stared at the stone wall in front of him. It was made of bricks, probably granite. Is that a tiny stone face in the wall? They were smushed together with mortar and water dripped from the ceiling. What do I... “No.” It came out as a whisper. Shocked, Aradan blinked his eyes. He had no idea what he had been going to say. But…the stranger, the man who helped me, did he know me? Did me knowing the people I thought I was protecting on Scadrial ever change anything? Standing up, with difficulty due to the restraints placed upon him, he repeated it again, strong and clear, “No. I am not the kind of person who sells out someone who helped me, housed me, even if only for a few hours. You have made no progress in convincing me you are any sort of hero, or indeed anything but a petty criminal. I may be out of health in this metalmind, and lack pewter flowing through my veins, but I will stand for justice.” “I don’t care what you do to me. As long as I believe it is the right thing to do, I will do it. And right now, I sincerely doubt you will ever convince me to break a promise made to someone who helped me out of, what I believe to be, the goodness of their heart.” @Steel Speedster@Mistfallen Soldier

Means, Motive, and Opportunity gets weird for mafia. Means would be near impossible to prove or provide evidence for if the roles are secret, and always possible if the roles are public. Motive also feels weird, especially for your example of a postman. Generally, players in mafia are going to want to have as much information as possible, so this will be another slam dunk. Opportunity just feels like a rehash of means, unless you’re tracking exactly what time actions are submitted and who lives in what times zones. I would use the “grand jury” to determine if stuff should go to PMs and court. Someone accuses someone else, and then a grand jury decides if it goes to trial, which would have a judge and a jury. Maybe add a prosecutor role who can immediately bump something to court. I don’t think a secret submission is a great idea, as it limits evidence and reduces analysis. Maybe only for a specific role, but you should have to put your neck on the line for a trial. I would also recommend using a two-thirds supermajority to convict/acquit instead of the tradition American unanimity, else the mafia would have it too easy. With a trial system, you might be able to remove lynching altogether, or only enable it after a couple rounds and many people are killed. I wouldn’t add a lawyer role, as that only makes sense in a professional context where the lawyer is essentially hired by the defendant/prosecution. You’d have lawyers pressuring/investigating their clients or not trying their hardest in an odd way. A judge role would be great though, you could argue if the judge if mafia or not based on their actions. I had an idea for the postman, if they could modify PMs. Perhaps all the PMs get routed through the GMs and the postman gets a chance to modify them. (Although you might need a couple of volunteer GMs in different time zones for that) Instead of the rules being breakable, you could make the court stuff the game. You have to find out who the mafia is by traipsing through legalese. Possible settings I guess could be the Court of the Gods, Lasting Integrity, Alcatraz (if you’ve read it, you’ll know what I'm talking about), or (what I think is best), the Trustwarren with the Kandra.

How would they be convicted? Would you have a trial with a jury of players, or is it just the player accuses them and the GM confirms or disproves? If you would have a trial, how does evidence work? Would the GMs give investigators copies of PMs? It sounds really interesting (maybe you could even have a judge role who could abuse courtroom authority to benefit their side), I’d like to hear more.

Aradan Liese, Underground, Unknown This man clearly doesn’t believe my story, that I “forgot.” Then again, I don’t know another way out of this. “Too be fair about—what was it? Cuvel? The guards attacked me first anyways.” Aradan attempted to stretch as far as he could tied up, for he didn’t have enough healing to remove the soreness in his muscles. “Why would you want to know where Thavel’s hideout is so much? I’ve already told you I cannot remember where it was. I’m concusse—“ Aradan looked down at the metalmind in his hands. So much for that excuse. I can’t believe I was so shortsighted! “Everything I have seen—well, not everything—suggests that Thav is genuinely trying to help people, and you aren’t. Tell me why I should believe you. Why should I sell out someone who trusted and aided me to someone who smacked me upside the head and has me tied up who knows where!” The outburst echoed around the room. Aradan grew quiet and his blood went cold under Mask’s gaze. “Tell me why,” Aradan said as he stumbled backwards. Glancing over, he saw a heavily scarred man standing behind him. He seems to be another prisoner. Maybe we can get acquainted later.

Yes, that is what I’m saying. Probably not. It’s mentioned in OB that her loss of the use of her legs had become part of her identity. She sees herself as unable to walk. Healing probably wouldn’t change that, and I doubt changing a spiritweb will either, unless she changes her internal image. Plus, they need investiture to do anything, so Rysn having full knowledge of the dawnshard probably wouldn’t do much.
-
Stormlight can do it. I don’t have access to Dawnshard right now, but afaik someone (offscreen) changes their body to match their internal identity.
-
It might…Gold can heal Shardblade wounds and even restore powers stolen with Hemalurgy.
-
That sounds like something I’d want to help judge as well.

Aradan, Underground, Unknown “Ahh,” Aradan shivered as he tapped the metalmind, health flowing through him. Coughing, he replied, “I…know very little. I found him mugging a man, and I attempted to find out why. He told me he was going to a meeting and invited me to come along. We went to the meeting, no first, we went to a hideout of his. I…the path is hazy, I can’t really remember.” We’ll see about this masked woman. It’s possible Thav is malicious, in which case I will tell her where the hideout is, but not yet. “He gave me some spare metals, and then we came to the meeting,” Aradan continued in a strong, deep voice, “I was planning to merely watch, but things…got out of hand.” Bruises mending, Aradan breathed a sigh of relief as the last increment of healing in this ring—which was mostly expended at the beginning anyways—aided him. “Who are you, and where is this place? That man…at the meeting, what was he talking about? Are you part of the same organization?" @Steel Speedster@Mistfallen Soldier

I honestly don’t really know how I was supposed to win that. The Magnified Ones are like heavy infantry, while the Deepest Ones are more like assassins. It was fun though.

That’s not ominous…

Probably.

It’s probably fine now.

Does stormlight heal shardblade through the spine?
Qianweilian replied to DoctaDajman's topic in Cosmere Discussion
I mean, Stormlight healing is probably comparable to F-gold, which can heal a Shardblade through the head cheap enough that Wayne can do it.
