    Rebus nodded thoughtfully. “Perhaps… She makes a better weapon than a hostage, in my opinion. We should get someone, though persuasion is better than force.”

    “I already did, effectively. Neither of them have noticed yet.” Rebus grinned. “I haven’t played that card yet, but as soon as they actually find out they’ll discover just how much I’ve done. No reason to stop setting things up, though. For instance, I need a new army.”

    Welcome back. I’m glad you’re not dead. Symbol mimicking Rebus… that could be very interesting. Rebus would say something else to Bat, but is busy. “Somewhere near the threat but not within it.” “Yes, it does. That’s why I was about to unify opposition against me, but some guy showed up saying he could kill Authors, and all the Authors were understandably distracted. Regardless, Tam and Bat have refused to help, so if I get them to regardless they won’t qualify.”

    The man flipped without flipping, and suddenly Ryss was upside down instead. “#*%+, you mean! I’ve heard you are, and add that to yes for you. Which is a completely different thing entirely.” Snakes appeared around him, and he took one and torn it in half, making pieces of paper.

    “Maybe I won’t have to do anything after all.” Demonic laughter echoed around him, fire dripping from the air. His vision began to warp and twist, and any stumbling sent the distorted light twirling. A figure stands in uffish thought, upside down in the air.

    That’s good. Rebus smiled. “Drab eht nocab, drab eht nocab, drab eht nocab. Give it a second…” He disappeared, not particularly wanting to have his soul tied in knots.

    Meat knows he’s in TLT, but he’s not really meta. Rebus is much more emergent. Rebus sighed. “I suppose you didn’t notice what Ryss is trying to do, also.” What do you mean by a record? The sphere floated there, looking around. Huh. Rebus blinked. “What? That makes no sense. I can deal with insane, but deluded? I know someone you’d like better - maybe you can actually kill him for me.”

    “Then you know you have no idea what you’re doing. You’re attacking a puppet of your real Author, or you’d simply have stopped existing.” Yup. Rebus is the only meta character I have, but wow. He’s telling the truth, actually. I’ve caught myself rubbing my hands together like a supervillain. Also, we’ve kinda entered an apocalypse pileup. We should start another just because.

    “Really? Can you feel yourself being written? Can you feel your Author’s confusion as you think of things he’d never consider? Can you become him, influencing his body language and speech patterns, fashion sense and behavior?” “Because every Author admires you, you have potentially the most friends in the entire Thread, and you have an actual character arc.”

    “The Great Wizard is being convicted for concealing the Plotblades of Protagonist and Antagonist. Malevolence is quite close to obtaining the latter, and an antagonist can defeat anyone but the main characters.”

    “Did you two not follow the trial?” Rebus shook his head, bemused. Rebus shows up. “My Author wishes my free will was a lie. It’s funny, actually. I can talk to him in his head, though he has to imagine me first.”

    “Because you are the closest thing to a Protagonist around, Bat. And Regression is a potent tool; I need to at least borrow it from Tam.”

    Rebus raised an eyebrow. “Very well. I’m sure Shoe and Beosta care about you two enough to take your place. And Rose and Cricket, perhaps. Maybe it will even be enough.”

    “Not merely you, no. But I do expect your assistance. If you really want to continue your introspection, I can split your storyline in two. It is already splitting, actually.” “That Blade will be needed, I suspect. Shall we join others?” “Simple. Your group are the closest thing to current protagonists the Thread has; the other plotlines exist, yes, but they are barely within the Thread.”

    “Yes, we are. I, unfortunately, cannot allow myself to lose.” “The Hero Council.” Rebus teleported to them, face completely serious. “Unfortunately, the timing is not something that can be changed. Malevolence is making a bid for Antagonist even as we speak.”

    “Yes. It’s practically necessary, actually. Who, though?” “Bring me to a city either under attack or about to be. Please.” Rebus sighed, looking regretful. “Ah. That is unfortunate - I suppose the timeline really needs to move up.” He snapped his fingers, setting his plans into motion. @Halcyon The Only and @Through The Living Glass, Bat’s teleportation beacon speaks up, in Rebus’s voice. “I’m truly sorry, but I’ll need you two to do what I say. Malevolence is making a power grab, I need to beat him to it.”

    Rebel pulled the cloth from the mirror, searching through information he’d gotten from Rebus to select a city. Somehow, he had a feeling an apocalypse would present itself. *applause* Rebus’s eyes widened, and he sat up straighter as he felt the power, even tangentially. “Nameless, Balitan? I think we’ll need to move up our timeline. I have a small amount of Morditite, but Malevolence has somehow found the Plotblade of Evil. I don’t know what he will interpret it as, but I predict the Thread is about to change rapidly. I may have to make a bid for Antagonist even as he tries to become worthy of Evil.” @Halcyon The Only Rebus looked to Symbol, eyes widened. “It seems you were a keystone; we have some problems to solve. It’s useful, in a way, but damage control will very much be necessary.” A woman is a flapping cape appeared behind Everet, Soliel, and Rebus. A man fell from the sky, sticking a three point landing. A few other assorted superheroes made similar entrances, inspecting the scene around them.

    Rebus showed up. "You alright, Bat?" Never mind thought Tam had left "Exactly."

    "Generally if there's an established location, vague descriptions will lead to it. I'll head to a city, and whichever crisis comes to head first will probably spill over to there." Rebus smiled. "You haven't seen anything yet. Especially with you both to advise me, balancing out my natural tendencies? This will be incredible." "If Protagonist is claimed, I may claim Antagonist. But the axes of reality are my solution to your dilemma; finding powers that would be both more and less powerful. Narrators cannot fight ordinary people without holding back, or plot armor will be engaged and cause problems. If I can acquire more esoteric powers, I'll be less capable of turning people inside out with a thought, while at the same time have other capabilities that do not overlap with nanotech, Abstract, and Magnificent Bastard."

    "I'm trying to stay alive and stay able to act, and to have things to do. How in sync are you with the Thread?" "Alright. We want a city, right?" "I do, yes. I probably could have even before the Plotblade, though it certainly makes it easier. It'd paint a target on my back, and I don't especially have any antagonistic things I want to do." "It is, yes. Perhaps you should be wondering that, though I do legitimately like both of you and want your help."

    He handed it back. "Beginnings may be one of the most useful Plotblades out there, though also perhaps the most redundant."

    Rebus waited to see what it may be. I'll be back in a little bit, or maybe go to sleep and be back tomorrow. "I built it from scratch, like one of my clones. Would you have had me call his spirit and then kill him again?" Slander!
