Through the Living Heir replied to ElephantEarwax's topic in Forum Games & Random Stuff
The almost-dome of darkness casts a shadow, actually. Almost-dome, because it curves back inwards at around ankle level. “Are you the one they said I couldn’t be because someone already was?” Everet picks up a wooden spoon. “We don’t have too many weapons.” Rebus smiles slyly, wondering if they’d remember.- 111829 replies

Rebel’s utility fog came up behind them and cut their throats simultaneously. He casually opened the door and walked out as the bodies fell. “I think I have a name too, but I don’t know what it is.” The darkness felt warm. The words felt warm too, actually; it was a strange sensation. Everet paced back and forth. “What do we do!?” Rebus stepped out from the corner. “I can portal us out of here. Ordinarily I’d leave a beacon and we could come back, but unfortunately this is not a good place to leave advanced technology laying around. So it’ll take quite a while to return.” “I briefly thought you were him, actually - but when you revealed the EIS I decided he’d never willingly give me such a thing. I bet we could keep that resemblance in our back pocket, especially if he does somehow become ‘overlord of the Thread’. Run a Bavarian fire drill or something.” Rebus began to chuckle, suddenly spinning Malevolence to use his suit’s boosters, which were presumably still active, to move him in-line with the deadly ramming drone. “Defeat and failure are not the same thing.” He said, Plotblade flaring brightly at his side as the drone rammed through his armor, offered no resistance - sped up in fact - by the utility fog surrounding him.- 111829 replies

A voice comes from the darkness. “Who are you? I won’t hurt you.” Everet dropped his tools and began to walk briskly but calmly towards the back. “This way - there’s a safe room.” Then the color drained from his face. “There’s two of us. Soliel, you can go, I’ll take my chances.” Rebus projected a hologram of Malevolence, who is (presumably) Balitan’s spitting image, though with white hair. “You do now, it seems.” Rebus strides towards Malevolence instead, blade briefly flaring with light. “Yes, it is. That is why I’ve decided to stop wasting my Nullite on weapons until I’ve found - or made - a stable sources. Your nanotechnology, too, is impressive.” I’ll deal with Rebel after swim practice.- 111829 replies

"Yes... I wonder... Balitan?" Rebus turned to him and smiled. "Do you have access to your... brother, perhaps? Cousin, evil twin, non-undercover copy, mysterious doppelganger, and so on." "I suspect my method is flawed, though I doubt you could make what I have. I may stop using Nullite entirely - I need it for experiments and it interferes with other technology." Rebus sent utility fog in all directions, blocking and dissembling the projectiles, then going for the drones themselves. The beams of Ennulling energy were dangerous, but Rebus's Nullite gauntlet glowed dark as he compacted space, refracting most away. He beckoned Malevolence towards him, dragging the man forwards with utility fog. Rebel nodded, standing up. "I should feel bad about that, but I don't. I think Rebus took my conscious away so I wouldn't attack Desolation. Oh well." Disassembling the door's chains, he multiplied his utility fog, then compacted them into an anchored block in front of the door, worming a few sensor tendrils through gaps to see the other side.- 111829 replies

“We do. We also make them powerful beyond their wildest dreams, give them luxuries, and allow them to escape death itself. I myself need fuel for my augmentations; the heart requirement was implemented after a group of mercenaries went rogue, attacked their fellows, and went off to start a protection racket. It may not be ethical, but it works. We can’t let people out, but they get internal leave.” The Ghost pauses. “I can bring members here, if you wish. Not for too long, of course. If you wish to interview them, I can take a spread of attitudes.” “Yes… Fate is less involved than I believe he used to be. I suppose I can stop playing fair with Malevolence; anything by involving Onyx’s realm might be slowed to match Fate.” Rebus laughed, almost unaffected. “If I had been using Narration, you’d be dead already. Really, I have no reason to leave this body with a core at all.” He spun on a pillar of utility fog, seizing the sphere with his one Nullite-plated gauntlet. “I’m surprised you got her Nullite to function properly. It’s twice-contaminated. Mine, on the other hand…” A powerful anti-teleportation field emanated from Rebus’s armor, leaving Malevolence unable to bring his sword back. “I believe I’ve just won. Are you a graceful opponent?” Alright. There was a darkness visible around a hundred feet away, encompassing perhaps a ten-foot sphere.- 111829 replies

Maybe. You could honestly get a weird magic, if the experiments play out. I read the project, but I can’t figure out where said profile is. “Erif is the one with the book, so that would suffice. I’m unsure who his Author is, and interfering with the quest may slow it further. Alternatively, Malevolence is highly valued by the rabbits - they think they need him specifically in order to read the book.” “I don’t think you are incapable of it, but you teleported already, and I have other options. Is your Nullite actually pure? For that, a sample of Morditite, and a favor, I won’t kill you.” Rebel nodded. “There is likely a kingdom of some sort around… were those skeletons people? I’ll need to get a teleporter that Rebus doesn’t control - if you attract people maybe I can get one.”- 111829 replies

Alright. I plan to actually go to sleep at a reasonable hour tonight, so I'll respond to that tomorrow. "Ah. I assume you don't get off-screen things, but that still could be useful. I suppose we should go on a short quest, for our bait. I believe the Book of Endless Pages is found in Onyx's realm." "If you really would like me to drop the showmanship, I'd be glad to." Utility fog locked together at Malevolence's wrists, ankles, and throat, lifting him into the air. Rebus smiled, and his Plotblade, still at his side, glowed brighter yet. "You can get one, I assume, but the others will teleport away objects in their vicinity if they lose contact. Objects like your head, though I may even put you back together." Rebel woke up to the voice in his head. "Power? Sounds good to me..." Welcome back, Wrath! Ooh, I can do that! He wouldn't be an Ennuller, per say, but he'd get some Ordered Dark nonetheless.- 111829 replies

“I suppose so, but I’ve heard good rarely comes of binding withergeists. Unfortunately it does, I’ve dealt with a rabbit before. They cannot be reasoned with, but they can be tricked.” The light reflected off the faceplate, splitting into a few beams that hit the surrounding walls. “Showy is practical, though the lightning is a bug.” He hovered into the air, evading the strike, though if Malevolence had the proper sensors, he’d notice the utility fog column lifting Rebus cracked when the blade touched it. With cracks of displaced air, small drones began to appear in a circle around Malevolence. They hummed, seeming to power up. But suddenly, a drone appeared silently, out of sequence, and behind Malevolence’s back, immediately firing a blindingly bright beam of light. “Both… I am the Ghost, and I run the Machination. I don’t really look like this, but you won’t find me. As for my organization, we are mercenaries. We’ll take any jobs people have, accept most payment, but training, tech, or magic is preferred, and will accept and enhance pretty much anybody.” That’s kind of crazy, actually. Somehow I’ve been on this thread for 500 pages.- 111829 replies

"So I've heard. He has a couple reputations, actually, though this copy of him is the first." "I assume so. There's something about binding a withergeist to your soul for powers - if the person binding is mind controlled, do you think that can contain one?" Rebus raised an eyebrow. "We really are similar. Did you see my armor, from when I was going to fight Malan?" Sleek black and white armor teleported around him as well, with a thunderclap of displaced air. Lightning crackled into it, arcs of electricity jumping up from the floor. "I never did get a change to show it off..." He summoned his blade back to his hand, holding it at his side. It glowed, now, the gems matching the orange light from the armor's seams. Ooh-wa-ah-ah-ah-ahh. Duh duh! I should really be asleep, but tomorrow this will be epic.- 111829 replies

Rebus shrugs at Balitan. "He knows things, and is pretty much powerless currently." He then sits down and steeples his fingers, thinking. "I suppose we could probably find a withergeist - it'd also give us some Morditite to scan. We also can track down the Convenient Person or one of the Machination quasi-Ennullers." Rebus took the hit, and his nose began to leak smoke, evidently broken by the Morditite. He dismissed his blade and grabbed Malevolence's arm, grip strength enhanced by nanites. "You're failing, by which I mean your swordplay is impressive. We are alike, in many ways."- 111829 replies

I suppose not. Prismite is rather hard to get unless you can kill a Narrator. "It is a bit silly, yes. Isoium would be better, through less self-explanatory." Rebus deactivated the force field, relatively confident Nameless could be trusted. "Test subjects shouldn't be too hard to find - the Machination would probably pay me to experiment on their members." Rebus's Plotblade coalesced in his hand, timed so perfectly it almost appeared inside the Mordite blade as he blocked it. "Should it? It should come inevitably, known to all but still not prepared for. You were far more impressive when they trusted you despite not trusting you than right now, when you only pose an actual threat to me because my nanotech is apparently alive." Rebus swept his Blade at Malevolence, beginning two-handed then suddenly letting go and lunging.- 111829 replies

"Aren't you already a Narrator? And regardless, that tiny piece will get used up fast if you want to use it actively." Rebus turned to him. "Yes, my apologies. This is an emergency backup for the legendary Narrator Nameless, and he appears to have some of the expertise we need. For instance, he at one point constructed an essence conversion device I believe was made from Balancium." Rebus projected the words sent to him in the air, editing out any mention of Authors. Then he continues speaking to Nameless. "Yes, I do. So far, I've theorized that energy, metal, magic users, and less concentrated beings like withergiests and characters are categorizeable by another two axes." Rebus smirked as utility fog solidifies in the way. "You thought you could catch me by surprise?" Then his eyes widened as the fog began to crumble, nanomachines suddenly malfunctioning.- 111829 replies

"I have him already - when he was planning this out I talked directly to him, unprompted." He grinned. "Anyway, I'm trying to get something fully canonized so I can have a legacy, and figured a new kind of magic would do the trick - and give me some tricks." Assuming this is another spelling for Prismite, Prismitite, Narritivium, Narrateium, ect. Rebus holds up a small crystal, glowing orange. "Here. It'll work around twice, I expect." Rebus smirked. "If you can kill me, my core would contain some. Actually, I think you have some already."- 111829 replies

It's probably my fault for making a block of text with it important part in the middle. If we run the attack and the educational commentary separately, @NameIess can contribute without us stalling when he goes offline. Rebus nodded. "That is a pretty good supervillain costume."- 111829 replies

Hmmm. Sure why not? Ooh, what if they're in a comic book type world! That makes Everet more interesting too. Everet continued working, but passed her a shaker of dragon sprinkles. Meanwhile, Rebus cleared his throat, trying to shake Ruia out of forgotten plot mode. "There's a city that needs to be attacked for plot reasons, so we might as well get a lesson out of it. What do you think?" "Moniker is off in Ragnorok, which is a good thing, in my opinion. And you? You get it. Finally..." Rebus grinned. "I will need to milk my similar state to get my Author to do what I need. Though your Author is second only to Onyx in canon authority."- 111829 replies

“I am a scientist, though I am trying to get around to reading the major plot. During the duel of Platypus and Subversion, you were activated then left stranded in some sort of dream world with the Creation power. Then other things happened and I lost the plot.” He shrugged. “The original you is dead, and the core of you somehow teleported to his lab. That probably explains why you missed Madness, Desolation, and Ruia. The fact you were directly Author-created implies I have some negotiating to do.” How am I supposed to know? This guy was supposed to either be one-off or just leave to adventure with them.- 111829 replies

Sure, but what are we to skip to? Rebus smiled. “Good, I like it when people like me. And when they help me. How did you end up as a deactivated core? I’m trying to establish more qualities than light/dark and order/chaos, so the ability to turn Prismite off is both intriguing, and fairly worrying. Though I suppose I’ve gone without my soul before.”- 111829 replies
