@Wierdo Nice poem! I liked the rhyming. @Edema Rue We'd still like to have your writing on here. Just because it's there doesn't mean it can't be here! Okay so I just had this really cool idea for a writing prompt but I also kind of want to write something for it. In a future world, nearly the entire young generation is lazy and doesn't care about learning anything. To remedy this, the older generation makes machines that do all of the work (like assembling computers and programming and stuff) and the young generation only has to maintain and start/stop the machines. I don't really have a plot in mind, it could go the route of exploring the possibilities of the new ideas (all the machines break or stop working) or this could be a background setting type-thing (and the laziness of the population effects the storyline; a guy is too lazy to pick up someone for a date and never gets married).

The gamemakers are silent.

"If that is all you would like to show us, then you may leave. You still have four minutes."

That's the thing! You have to make some way of telling your readers without them knowing, perhaps by having a character use some very strange word acrobatics to get around not saying the. Or if you can't figure it out, have one of the characters accidentally say it in private and the other one points it out.

There is an old-fashioned double shot handgun in the rack near the bows.

"Please proceed with your showing," I say.

Most of them blink and look very startled, but the (very handsome) Volaro Fetterman merley smiles and thanks you. "Next!" @justice magician

One of them makes a note on their clipboard. "Please commence and show us what you can do."

They mumble a bit and look at the corner of the room. There, you see a small sack full of metal orb-shaped objects with plastic arrowheads. I figured as much.

The judges look impressed by the time you are done, they are whispering excitedly and making furious notes. @TheRavenHasLanded You are called up next for testing.

You see the normal things in the testing room; targets, dummies, and throwing knives among other things.

Andrew hears the door bang open. "Sparks! What was that?" He hears footsteps from the hallway. Slowly, quietly, he pulls his rifle off the wall and aims it down the hallway towards the door. And then, an epic he reckognizes by the name of Swordfih walks right into his sights. He fires.

It looks good! I really enjoyed it. Two things though: It needs some serious editing, and... it seems to end abruptly? Is there more, or am I missing something?

I know just putting it out there for them to see whenever they can

@RoyalBeeMage You hear a robitic feminine voice over the comm in your room. "Will the District 1 male please report to the training room." It's time for testing.

"Yeah. See you." He raises a hand in farewell and struts off.

He shakes his head. "Well, I--" a bell similar to the one you heard earlier rings. "All tributes please report to your dormotories. It's time for testing."

"What--? Okay, never mind. What does your family do?"

He blinks. "Wow. That sounds... interesting. Why were you playing a game during the reaping?"

She rolls her eyes. "I mean, whaddaya say we team up? We'd crush everyone else!" A look of shock and confusion crosses his face. "Sorry, what? You got kidnapped for the games?"

"Nobody else around here seems to have any sense. How bout we show them how to really play the games?"

He throws down his weapon and joins you. As you sit down, he asks, "So. How'd you end up here?"
