I get the continuity thing. That’s something it took awhile to figure out for myself.
Honestly Mippo I wish I could discuss the storms out of this topic because I love it so much. But to save everyone’s time all I will say is fair enough. Comics aren’t for everyone. If you want to now my actual opinion on that click on the spoiler, info dump warning
SpoilerThis is all my opinion and i am not trying to argue. I genially love comics and love debates about comics and I don’t really get to have conversations like this in my life. So enjoy my two cents
i use the rule that your continuity is your continuity. The comic land scape changes all the time So no one has read all that is cannon. You choose what you like. If you pick up a comic and hate it, then that’s not cannon. If you read a one shot comic that will never be referenced again but love it, then that comic is cannon. If you love the Henry Cavil Superman, then you are just as much of a Superman fan as anyone else. And no one can tell you differently. Because no one is a fan of Superman, they are a fan of their idea of Superman. Some people just have a wider net that fits their idea of Superman
Character like Batman and Superman aren’t really characters anymore. Their concepts. hundreds of writers and artist have shown what they think these characters to be, to the point where batman is category of story’s, not a rule set. Comics are closer to music than any other form of entertainment. You cant really say that this or that genre of music promotes this or that idea, because every song is different. In the same sense someone cant say that Superman is sexist and show one comic. It can be said that this writer writes Superman as sexist, it can even be said that that era of Superman was sexist. But Superman isn’t, because there is at least one comic out their that is somebody’s favorite, where Superman is not sexist
(i dont think Superman is sexist was just using an example)
so if you don’t like comics, that of course fine. But maybe just go into a comic shop and by any comic you think looks interesting. Who cares what came before, who cares what it connects to. Pick one. And enjoy it for the story that it is telling. For the art it is showing. Not what that run of comics is telling. And if you don't like that one, try again. Trust me, there will alway be a comic different from the last
this has been my TED talk. Good night
