New chapter unlocked for Steelhunt: WoR Ch. 2
Windrunner replied to Shardlet's topic in Stormlight Archive
I would disagree that Shen is as far from the Parshendi as the humans. He has certain instincts in common, such as the reverence for corpses. -
He cannibalized some large portions of it into Mistborn, from what I understand.

Glad to have you here, valyrian! I love hearing from Brandon's fans around the world. Which of Brandon's books is your favorite? What other fantasy authors do you like to read?
-
I'm fairly certain that Mi'ch is right now this one. From my understanding The Liar of Partinel and The Lightweaver of Rens take place centuries before Dragonsteel proper, which is five books long. It's a tad confusing because Brandon doesn't always make it clear whether he thinks they're part of the same series or not. Dragonsteel is used to refer to the third of the series (after the two "prequels" for lack of a better term) but it's the first in its sequence of five books. Feel free to correct me Mi'ch or any of the admins if I've mixed it up again.

Silence Divine for one. I'd say Skyward but that can't have been part of the plan.

Llarimar (Scoot) Seems to be Cosmos Aware
Windrunner replied to Glaring at the Survivor's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Wikipedia (the greatest source ever ) says that it's a suffix in Old English, which has become "er" in Modern English. Brandon came up with the word cosmere when he was about 15, I doubt there's any etymological consideration put into it. -
Cosmere Fanart - Sketches and Works-in-Progress
Windrunner replied to ExMachina's topic in Creator's Corner
Wow, I absolutely adore these. Especially the way Dalinar looks, you've captured him well. -
I have read it, finished a few weeks back. I won't be spoilery for you. In short, I liked it, but not as much as I liked the first two. It was fun, but didn't have as much of the heist feel to it that I so enjoyed from the others. Fixing the election was an interesting conflict, but I never really felt any tension from that because, at worst, Jean and Locke get turned out of the city for their failure. I was actually far more interested in the flashbacks in this book. I really enjoyed finally getting a look at Sabetha. But, for the most part, I really enjoyed it, and I feel like Lynch is back, which I'm very happy about. Full Book Spoilers

I've always thought that the flames represent human Cognitive aspects. Perhaps the flame that Jasnah threw Shallan into was her own, returning her to her body.

I wouldn't be surprised if two of them were Ashyn and Braize, since the three are all in the same system. Even though Physical distance doesn't matter much, it seems that relative position could still matter.
-
More and more lately I've been seeing Surgebinding as less of Honor's system, and more of a balance magic system, as it has to do with spren that are of both Honor and Cultivation. It certainly makes sense that the natural magic systems involving spren bonds would be Cultivation, but assuming that Surgbinding is a balance system (which is not by any means guaranteed) then Honor would probably have his own system too.

Theory: Odium pitted Devotion and Dominion against each other
Windrunner replied to thek9's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Hey Doc, that's not really the sort of metaphor we allow on the forums, so I removed it. Feel free to edit your post so it transitions better. Thanks! -
Exemplary and Complete Article Candidates
Windrunner replied to Chaos's topic in The Coppermind Wiki
All right, Eric and I reviewed some of the articles (and by that I mean that I did the Stormlight ones and asked him what he thought of my comments ) First, articles that are complete, and now "should" be marked as such. (I think I did it, but I may have spaced on one or two.) Artifabrian Half-shard Grandbow Pain Knife Emotion bracelet I do have a few comments on Shai, as I feel that it's very good but perhaps could be a shade better. I agree with Weiry that the subsection names could be updated, I prefer to keep the entries as in-world as possible, personally. What changes that she made to the emperor's soul should be touched on briefly, as well as why. Maybe a bit more on her attitude towards Forgery and art in general, as well as how extensive her knowledge of Realmatic theory is. I think the part near the end of the book could stand some expanding as well, mentioning her theft of the forged copy of Lily of the Spring Pond, as well as her plans to lie low in the Sogdian Forest. I also think that the fact that she has dark skin should be mentioned (because of the whole MaiPon/Jindoeese connection) because that's a fairly common misconception, especially due to the cover art. We also need a few Shai quotes as well. Fabrial is much closer, although there are still a few things it could use, in my opinion. There needs to be a mention of the wire cages that surround the gems. We don't know if they're important for sure, but they should be there for now. I also think that a list of fabrials would not be amiss. The new factoid that all Radiant abilities can be mimicked by fabrials should be on that page. I also think that the Oathgates deserve a mention in the potential fabrials section, because that's a fairly common theory. The second fabrial drawing of Navani's should also be on that page as well. Once we have this stuff, I think it's exemplary. Spanreed is almost ready to go, Eric thinks that it would be a good idea to list who has a spanreed connected with who so we can keep track of those pairs. Other than that, it's good to go. -
"I told you so!" - Steelhunt Edition
Windrunner replied to hoser's topic in General Brandon Discussion
Dalinar Kholin is the last man on Szeth's list of men to kill. So either Taravangian decides to add to it, or the Liift interlude doesn't happen concurrently with the rest of the book. We've already been told that the interludes can be a little bit forward or backward in time. -

I'm afraid we've already got a topic on this over here. I'm gonna close this topic.

As far as I know, skeletal is done, I completed it myself.

I don't agree with that second part. So the Shardholder's perception of "Endowment" or "Honor" does have some impact on how they go about fulfilling that intent while they hold that Shard.

Maybe you guys remember a while back when Brandon posted a bit of Amaram dialogue in Morse code on reddit? Well, he's done a similar thing again, here! Pretty sweet, no? Unless I'm mistaken, we haven't seen much of present-day Shallan from WoR, yet.

I personally think that there will be gateways of some sort. The mention of an "Oathgate" is telling, and we know Transportation is a Surge and that fabrials can be built to mimic any of the Radiant powers.

Well, I don't know if they'll work the same way they do for the Heralds, but others can use the Honorblades. That's not what I've seen. There have been plenty of well founded theories over the past month, just off of the top of my head I can think of two or three that that I espouse. And even if there hadn't been, should we not try to build theories with rational arguments and evidence, rather than "Nothing we've seen directly contradicts this." My apologies, I missunderstood.

Was I the only one who assumed that Darkness was taken for a simple Azish constable and that everyone was surprised that he had a Shardblade? I don't think this is some sort of multi-national crime fighting organization. If it is, it's unlikely to be part of the Vorin church, considering both Iri and Azir are not Vorin.
-
Well they "could" be. But in reality, they could be just about anything, to be honest. We have no data beyond the mythological function of one of them. The Dawnshards could imprison the Unmade, the Dawnshards could be super Stormlight batteries, the Dawnshards could be what destroyed the city beneath the Shattered Plains. I think that when people don't understand how something works, they tend to just throw the Dawnshards out as a solution, since they literally could be nearly anything.
-
I strongly believe that the Dawnshards and the Honorblades are two distinct things.

LDS Influences on Themes (Theology Time)
Windrunner replied to The Rooster's topic in General Brandon Discussion
You don't need the permission of the staff to express an opinion, that's what this forum is all about. You can't have a discussion if no one can express an opinion. We give everyone the benefit of the doubt that they're going to be polite and respectful in their discussion. If someone breaks that trust, then there can and will be consequences. That is exactly what we don't want. If you call someone else's religion dumb, that is not going to fly. It's exactly how flame wars get started. If we're going to have an intelligent conversation, I'm going to have to ask you to refrain from calling someone's religion out as being dumb or nonsensical or whatever. Religion is a topic that can get heated when the best of friends discuss it in person, let alone people who don't know each other particularly well over the internet. I trust that you know yourself well enough that you know whether or not you can take part in this discussion without causing a problem
