  1. Eddie smiles at Vena, though her eyes are still blank. “I’m glad you’re alive,” she says. Then she turns to Lilyana. “Lil…when I feel, things burn. They burn, in places so far across the world that you can’t even see it. So I need to stop feeling.”
  2. “This,” Tal said simply. He waved a hand, and suddenly the water flew out of the bottle and into Violet’s mouth.
  3. “Nothing,” Eddie said, no emotion in her voice. “Absolutely nothing.”
  4. Tal shrugged. “I’m sure there’s some…somewhere…there’s a lot of staff.” “Just drink the stupid water,” Tal says. “I can make you, if it’s for your good.”
  5. “Okay,” Eddie says mildly. “I’m sure you’re right.” Her face is completely blank. “Lils?”
  6. “Yeah…drink the water.” “Yup. We’re a clinic, it’s what we do. We look out for the ones everyone else forgets.”
  7. “Lil has the room keys,” Eddie responds. “Some people might have to share, though.”
  8. Tal looks at her for a long moment. “Didn’t you say you came here because you needed water?”
  9. Eddie nods. “It hurts,” she whispers. “It hurts so bad.”
  10. “Yup,” Tal says. “And I’d recommend drinking that before you pass out. You’re very dehydrated.” Tal shrugs. “It’s not that bad, don’t worry. If you need help with your magic, there are plenty of people here who can help you.”
  11. Eddie blinked, hard, and when she opened her eyes they were clear. The fire disappeared from her hair. “Okay,” she whispered. Eddie walked over to the door. “We’ll spend the night here and move on in the morning.”
  12. “We have storage rooms in the basement, all I did was bring it up from there.” Tal shrugs. “That also happens more often than you’d think.” He waved a hand, and the water disappeared.
  13. Eddie looks at her, eyes shining. “I don’t want to cool down. Not today and not ever. I can’t control them, they were stolen when I was very young, but…this isn’t the sort of power that’s meant to be controlled.”
  14. “Mmm…” Eddie said. “I don’t know. I’m burning.”
  15. “I’m Talin,” Tal said. “Or Tal. Up to you. I’m the doorman, which means I deal with the weird stuff.” “To the left, up the stairs, (the purple spiral ones, please don’t go up the green ones), then down the yellow stairs and to the right, then go straight until you feel the urge to punch me and your room is in the floor.” Tal waves a hand, and a bottle of water appears. “Drink this, please.”
  16. Eddie wandered in and sat down on a bed, staring straight forward. It started smoldering.
  17. Clinic: Lobby “You have a key,” Tal said. “If you’ll follow me, I’ll show you to your room.” He looked around for Vyla, and realized she’d disappeared. “Ah, well,” he said, walking and motioning for the man to follow. “This happens more often than you’d think.”
  18. Clinic: Dining Hall: “Interesting…” Rue said. Clinic: Lobby Tal walks over to Vyla and the man. “If you need anything,” he says, “you can come find me or any of the other staff. Emma and Calano have a lot going on.” @Violet @Cash67
  19. “Not at all,” Eddie said.
  20. “Sure,” Rue said. “Communication devices are good. What do we want to make them out of?”
  21. “Okay,” Eddie says. Another fire starts somewhere in the world.
  22. Rue snorted. “Bad things always come. There’s no avoiding it.”
  23. Rue shrugged. “I’ve never been afraid of things that may or may not come. It’s odd, I know, but I’m glad. Sometimes in the moment…but never beforehand.”
  24. “Sure,” Eddie says, eyes still distant. In another part of the world, completely irrelevant here, a huge forest fire starts. There’s no obvious cause. Whether or not Eddie is related can never be proven.
