“We should get out of here,” Rue whispered to TAAron. “I have a feeling this won’t end well for us.”

“I’m not that dumb,” Rue said, watching Lerac.

“Lovely,” Rue murmured. Then, to TAAron, “is there any truth to what he’s saying?”

“Mm…yes, I suppose reaping souls isn’t a problem for you.”

Rue paused, seeming to rethink her words. “I suppose you’re probably immune to most magics, aren’t you?”

Siylna flinched. “You could…say that. I’ve made my share of mistakes. Some got me glory, some got me here.” She shrugged. “I’ll get over it.”

“Then maybe you ought to leave before someone gets hurt. TAAron doesn’t need your ‘checkup’.”

Rue shrugged. “If it’s true, I expect you can come up with something.”
