  1. Aria glances at him as he passes, then dismisses him. He wasn’t who she was looking for, and didn’t look like he needed any immediate help. So she turned and kept wandering, checking rooms, until she eventually stumbled on…a tiny, indoor pond? A hot spring, maybe, or a public bath? @The Aspiring Archivist @Immortal Platypus
  2. “I like that plan.” Dayla started out of the room, then paused. “When are we leaving?”
  3. “Oh!” Dayla stepped into her bathroom, then came out and added a small bag. “Now that really is it. Maybe we need to go shopping.”

I have been on a date, I think. They certainly can be fun. I have also done things that people jokingly called dates even though they weren't, which is obnoxious.

I've been on a lot of dates. Being in a long-term romantic relationship is very poggers

  5. If she didn’t want it to attack, it wouldn’t attack. Physical motions didn’t change that. But there would be no use arguing. Some beliefs didn’t change overnight, or at all, even when they were wrong. “All right, then. If there’s no one else here, I’ll leave you and your…pet.”
  6. Dayla glanced around the small room. She picked up a shirt and stuck it in her duffel, then scooped an assorted pile of wires into a pouch on her belt. “I think I need more things to pack.”
  7. Aria didn’t state the obvious—that a dragon would never harm its master. Later it is, then. “If you’re sure. But if there’s any danger, come find me. I’m in room…uh…” she glanced at her keycard. “318.”
  8. “My name is Aria,” Aria said. “I’m…looking for someone.” Thank goodness her hair was covered. She had no idea what sort of people she’d find here, and she couldn’t have them asking questions. “You’re sure I can’t kill your dragon?”
  9. Aria blinked. “You control it?” She’s dangerous. No wonder the Knight is here. “Most dogs are greedy things, sick enough to kill the unwary.” She’d have to kill it when its protector was distracted.
  10. Aria backed up. No, no, no… ”Monster,” she hissed. She had to kill it now, before it grew into something truly dangerous. She’d never killed one before, but at this size, surely she could manage. “Stay back,” she ordered the person inside. “I’ll get rid of the beast, and then you’ll be all right.”
  11. As she dialed, Aria knocked on her door.
  12. Dayla couldn’t help herself—she burst out laughing. “You’re quite a little player, Emerald.”
  13. She shrugged. “Sounds good. Need a hand with the ship?” She paused. “Are we taking a ship?”
  14. “Hmm.” Aria wasn’t convinced, but it would have to do. She passed through the door, then hesitated, unsure where to go next. Where would he be? She shrugged and started walking.
  15. “Thank…you.” Aria frowned. She sounded much too happy. It wasn’t her problem…but she’d never been able to let things be. So she leaned in close and whispered, “is someone controlling you?”
  16. “Right…” Aria trailed off, distracted by the sudden crowd. “I’ll take a look around. Looks like you’ve got a lot to do.”
  17. “Check me…in? Oh, no, I don’t need a place to stay. I’m looking for someone, that’s all.”
  18. Aria eyed him back for a long moment before concluding that he wasn’t all that dangerous. Aria blinked. Ma’am? That was a first. No hate, no fear…she had her long white hair tucked inside a hat, which might have been the reason. “Breakwater Suites? Can’t say I’ve ever heard of this place.”
  19. Aria stepped into the lobby, scanning the room suspiciously. It was too nice. It wasn’t right. Why would he have come here? And where was here? Didn’t matter. She Saw that this was the place. Nothing left but to start looking.
