  1. The wagons were still in the clearing were they'd been left, completely untouched. The wooden boards creaked in a morning breeze as they approached. Dawn cast strange shadows with the fabric covering.
  2. He shrugged. "Let's go then!"
  3. She frowned. "But both groups were wearing masks . . ." "I don't like the idea of standing around, especially if the dryads have confirmed more bandits are in the area." She loaded her crossbow, and starting making her way through the trees again. "We should return to the wagons."
  4. "Yeah, they were long gone by the time we agreed to cooperate . . ." She thought for a moment. "The bandits we fought earlier today seemed odd to me, a little too weak and straight forward. It'd be no surprise to me if they hired a challenge for us so that things could play out in a more safe and controlled way, or at least safe and controlled for them. Maybe they didn't expect Jerehlu to show up, so when they did they panicked because real bandits hadn't crossed their minds?"
  5. "That wouldn't be uncommon, especially with rich folks like these . . . though it seems odd for them to back out so quickly when they were on a mission specifically meant to hit a few bumps to test us." "So we can't know for sure . . . "
  6. "Dang it's been awhile since I was famous, I kind of miss the headrush." Penn turned back to her. "Oh of course dear!" He pulled a jar of honey out of his jacket and handed it to her. "You'd be surprised how often people tell me they dislike honey, so I thought I'd play it safe."

"I assumed so," He said, after reading the paper. "Just a brief summary of your involvement in the events and why will suffice."

"Very well then, that is enough agreement for me to close the matter," The emperor said, shuffling the papers in front of him on the table. "Now, we'll do with the accomplices to the escape, before we determine judgement I'd like to hear each ones testimony." He glanced up at Arke, and just shook his head. "Any volunteers to go first?"
  10. Nera considered that. "Well, if the dryads are looking for our lost noblemen, then we can focus on retrieving the wagons," She suggested.
  11. "She knows my name does that mean I'm famous?" He turned around, hands in his pockets. "Hello there, did you like the biscuits I made for you?"
  12. dangg I don't know who I have next semester, I won't find out till the first day. My school has a pool of 2-3 permanent teachers plus 1 or 2 student teachers who are each assigned random classes. The classes are also multi-grade so it's only divided up by the time it happens. We'll also be moving buildings next year because they're bull-dozing the current one which is gonna be interesting. Luckily it's just moving to a church across the street so I don't have to find a way there or anything.
  13. ouch that sucks that they make you late, mine are usually better at that but I wish the seminary buildings were synced with the schools bell-system so they couldn't unintentionally make you late. Mine won't be here next term because he's technically still a student teacher (or something??) so he's only doing one semester.
  14. "Attack? They ran off, we should just move the wagons away from the gas and then search the woods," She said scratching her head, "Though I'm not against splitting up."

"Very well," The emperor said. He turned to the others looking at them expectantly. "I think some sort of punishment is in order but sending him off with October is too far out of left field," December began, "If we're concerned about his rash actions than we shouldn't send him to a place that would actively encourage it." "He'll get military discipline, we'll temper his rashness into something useful," October said, actually sounding calm for once. January folded his hands in his lap, considering. His son shifted nervously in his chair. The man next to December continued to stare off into space. It echo's loudly and everyone turns to look at him for a split second. "I think that's a good idea," July finally said. August gave him an odd look, he hadn't expected that. "I think learning under October would help me," July continued, successfully keeping his voice from shaking. "Really, I ran because I have a . . . a lot of pent up energy so physical training would help." The emperor nodded thoughtfully, "And for how long?" "I don't mind however long . . ." July said, his voice getting quieter as his courage waned. "I'm hesitant to send him off to a punishment he wants . . ." January said, though he didn't sound unconvinced. "If 3 span is not enough for October, then how about 5?" "That's still not--" "Nothing would be long enough for you, March." March rolled his eyes.
  16. "And if they're lost or hurt? That sort of thing would work with Lady Genuhk but what about Master Igenes? I don't think that old man could walk all the way to the city." She sighed, glancing back at the wagons which were now outlined by the slowly rising sun. "I get your point, but I think we should look around first or something."
  17. "What's the point if their not with us to see us do it?" Nera asked, "Plus they might be pissed if we leave them behind, running off without telling anyone could be a test."
  18. Nera shook her head, "Lusha checked the wagons for the bandit leader and there was no one inside . . . they must've heard the bandits and made a run for it or something."
  19. "Yeah but the dust and debris could get us . . . oh well," Aki said, abandoning caution. He followed Nick as he approached the officer, curious on how he would handle things.
  20. "Whatever you like!" Jerehlu said with a big smile. "I love associates with big goals, it makes the heists more fun--we'll see what we can do about taking on jobs that will land that sort of pay." -------------------- Nera grabbed his arm and pulled him away, after Dint. Luckily the bandits hadn't tied him up yet. After a only a few minutes they were in the woods outside of the camp, the air was much clearer here. Distant yells and the sounds of chaos still came from the camp, but it slowly quieted as they cleared out in the other direction.
