  4. I ended up watching the first season of Apothecary Diaries, because it's free on Crunchyroll right now (likely to promote the second season, which is currently airing). I was interested in it because people generally put it next to Frieren in a line up of new, well written anime. It's was pretty good! I think it's one of those series that suffers from translation, because while I could understand what was happening, I often felt like I was missing some cultural context or something (especially since it's a historical inspired story). I do want to check out the manga and see if I can grasp it a little better in a different format (though it is now at the bottom of a long list of comics I keep saying I'm gonna read soon). But yeah, I liked it--It had lots of fun humor moments, and surprisingly heartfelt and emotional moments. Both of the main characters are little freaks and I love them for that. I'm tired of romance stories being about normal, socially competent people. I did also watch the first few episodes of Inuyasha, out of curiosity. I swear it's the one anime that's easy to get access to through several different services. I'm not in love with it yet, and from what I've heard it's no masterpiece. That said, I still find it really charming, so it might become the show I watch when I need something to turn my brain off too .

it snowed a lot last night . . . we haven't had hardly any snow this winter until the last few weeks, so maybe the whole thing is just late. I hope not, I want spring to come as quickly as possible 😭

  9. Finally finished Arcane season two after procrastinating the finale for several weeks . . . I really liked it! I thought it was good, and had some pretty iconic moments. That said, I don't think it was as good as the first season. The first season was a genuine masterpiece, and while the second was pretty good and a fun watch, I feel like it lacked a lot of the depth and 'tightness' that I'd expected. I'm not going to be one of those people who insist it's horrible and a complete disappointment, it just went from being a show where every scene in every episode is amazing, to a show where one scene in every episode is amazing. I agree with the sentiment that it felt rushed, the writers needed another season to figure things out, and some plot points were clear retconns just to get all the loose ends to fit together in time. I've heard a lot of people say that it was rushed because Riot wants to move on to other projects and shows for Runeterra, and they plan on building an MCU-ish franchise. I don't know how true that is, but if it is, then it makes a lot of sense. It's a shame, because that first season really was something. I still really liked it thought, it was a fun watch with good music and perfect visual if nothing else. Hopefully future projects from Riot and Fortiche have more time to cook in the oven, so to speak.
  10. Me too. Stats is actually pretty chill, I'm just having a hard time caring about the content and paying attention I guess
  11. thaaanks I'll try and text some of my friends later, but we'll see. We all tend to be busy, which sucks. That's my typical strategy, but you can't really escape during a stats lecture
  12. I actually think there is something wrong with me. My music taste is inconceivably random and beyond my personal understanding. It cannot be predicted. Songs are not good for any reason other then the strange forces of the universe whispering it into my soul. *cough* anyway, so how are you all this lovely night
  13. Didn't think I did, but then I looked and I guess Hozier is irish so that's cool. He definitely gives the vibe with his music, though I wouldn't have recognized his accent or anything. I knew he was European, but not which country. So that's cool!!!!!!! Like with most artists I haven't listened to all of his stuff because I'm deranged and can't get myself to listen to more then 5 songs by the same artist, even if I really like them.
  14. GUESS WHO FINISHED WAT uh, if you weren't already aware because this is not knew info, I've posted my actual thoughts on it elsewhere on the Shard for obvious reasons. but!! That does mean that I will be moving onto some of the books I had started before I halted everything for Brandon's new release. I think atm, my focus will be on The Lie Tree, Frances Hardinge, which my sister gave me for Christmas. I'll be back with my thoughts on it once I'm done.
  15. Oh right!!!

If you remember, WaT is the first book I ever tried tabbing on, as a a little 'dip of the toe' into annotation processes. I didn't highlight or write in the text, mostly because the hardcover was so nice I don't want to do anything permanent--I'm too coward for that atm. So, I just did those removable plastic tabs to mark things I wanted marked. If you're in the book space in other online areas, I'm sure you know what I'm talking about.

I thought I'd show ya'll how it turned out because I think it's kinda pretty:

As I'm sure you can see, I started with one set of colors and then ran out and had to switch to another because this book is so long lolll. I think I was able to match the color pallet of the cover nicely enough with both sets. I did have a meaning for the specific colors, but the categories ended up being pretty chaotic, and some merged together as I went and figured out how I wanted to do things. I also kept running out of colors (even after switching sets) so some categories have 2 or 3 colors for them lol.

Overall I did really enjoy doing this. WaT was a pretty good book to 'practice' on, because the nature of stormlight and Cosmere books meant I sort of knew what to expect, and how I wanted to do things. I think in the future, I'll try and go for vaguer and fewer categories, or no color coded categories at all, because while I liked marking stuff with the tabs, I don't know if the categories were really my thing.

Also, I just barely have room for this behemoth on my Sanderson shelf, I don't what I'm gonna do when I collect more of SA (I only have wok, row, and wat). My books are quite literally tetris-ed into that bookcase to get them all to fit lol.

I think this morning, now that I've slept on the finale and have had some time to think about it, my opinion is still really high. I love this book. I also let myself go look at a bunch of spoiler memes this morning and I'm having the time of my life.

ANYway. I'm gonna go lurk in the spoiler forums, I hope ya'll are having a good morning! I didn't have to go to school today because of President's day, and we had pancakes for breakfast, so all around things are pretty great.

I did actually get the itch to make some WaT fanart this morning, but we'll see if that happens because I'm a little bit art blocked atm.

    Love ya'll!!

  16. I'm a bit too tired to go super deep with this reaction, but here is a summary of my current thoughts having finished the book today. (I also wrote this to share with some non-sharder friends, so if it seems needless spoiler avoidant, that's why). It took me quite a bit longer then I'd hoped, I wanted to devote more time to reading this year, but this book is 1300-ish pages, so I think I can cut myself some slack. The other Stormlight books certainly took me longer then a month and a half to complete, so I see this as a win. I really liked this book--I know there's a loud few who are disappointed in it, but my general impression is to disagree with them. My current rating is a 4.5/5, really great, but not perfect. If we're being honest here, I've read thousands of pages of novels building up to this, I already love and care about the world and characters. I would've loved this book even if it was all of my beloved characters just sitting around in a void talking to each other--which is a testament to how well things have been set up this far. I just think I ought to admit that bias because it's very real and very strong. While I do think that most of the time Brandon's dialogue is just fine, in this book there were a few bad scenes where it lacked subtlety, and felt cheesy. One scene in particular that comes to mind felt like Brandon was having the character say what he should say, in his situation, instead of something more in-character. Other scenes felt masterfully done, though. I just think it's the dialogue's wide range in quality throughout the novel that leaves a bad impression. I have a few small issues here and there, but other then that, my thoughts are overwhelmingly positive. I think, while fumbled in some aspects, the main themes of the story come to a nice point. WaT walks a strange line between being a finale for the first arc of it's book series, as well as setting up and establishing the environment and conflict of the next arc. This is done really well IMHO, and as a big fan of the Cosmere, I find this a very satisfying 'half finale.' The ending made sense in a way that, while I did not fully expect the outcome, linked into the other books in the world really well. While I have found that diving deeper into literary analysis has caused me to see occasional holes in the writing of things I enjoy, including Brandon's books, with WaT I am overwhelmed by the fact that I could never figure out how to balance an ending like this, to a series so ambitious. As a very beginner when it comes to creative writing, Brandon has my full respect.

Also, if anyone is keeping track of my WAT su's, I thought I saw a spoiler saying Adolin was gonna die, and I'm extremely relieved that he, in fact, did not.

The spoiler was some fanart related to the loss of his leg, and in my brief glimpse I thought it was a death, and misunderstood. Super relieved about that, he's one of my favorite characters of all time. AND ALSO I TOTALLY CALLED HIM NOT DYING IN THIS BOOK MONTHS AGO.

I plan on posting my summarized thoughts in one of the reaction threads here, so watch for that.

For now, I think I'll say I'm going to go with a an extremely solid 4.5/5 for a general rating.

Now leave me, I have things to process ✊😭

  20. I'm doing alright!! But, I didn't have school today and won't be back to class till Tuesday, so that helps. I've been listening to good music, and finished the first season of an anime I'm really into right now, so it's been fun. I have avoided doing some of the things I planned on doing today . . . like reading a bunch and working on my fic, but I wasn't feeling well (physically, not mentally) this morning, so watching tv was better. I have felt a little art blocked lately, I'm just not satisfied with my current understanding of anatomy so I end up disappointed in the stuff I draw. I'll get over it though, just gotta lock in with my studies--plus I do painting every day so I've got to cut myself some slack. How're you?
