  1. I've noticed after lurking in this part of the forums as of late that we don't have a manga thread! I'm always hesitant to bring up manga specific conversation in the anime thread because I don't want to get off topic. That, and the 'currently reading' thread isn't really meant for discussion, though I've talked about manga there before. So here's a thread to discuss manga in general!! I'd say we could have this be a bit of an umbrella thread for Manhwa and Manhau as well, since I don't know if there's a big enough audience for them on the Shard to constitute them having their own threads. (I guess if we end up having a ton of Manhwa/Manhua discussion despite my predictions, I can just update the title). To kickstart discussion, I thought it'd be fun to have a few base questions: What's you're favorite manga? What manga are you currently reading, or read last? Have any interesting manga recommendations? Manga you plan to start soon? My answers: Fav manga: Probably Fullmetal Alchemist or The Legend of Aslan (both hiromu arakawa ahhahahh) Currently reading: Technically, I'm not all caught up on Witch Hat Atelier because my library doesn't have some of the latest volumes. I'll find a way to finish it eventually . Recommendation: I'd recommend Mushishi! It's a really interesting and atmospheric manga about a doctor traveling across rural Japan fixing odd problems caused by nature spirit creature things. Each chapter is a new story, and I really loved it. Plan to start: Frieren!! I really want to read it but none of my local places have it . . . I may just have to collect it heheheh. But anyway, I want to read as much as possible before s2 of the anime comes out.
  2. Sharling pulled out their map out of her bag. "Let's see . . . maybe we should go back to the starting one? Yah think people are more likely to be there?"
  3. Question for my fellow manga enthusiasts who are also readers (is that too niche for the Shard? We'll find out I suppose): Do you track manga volumes in the same place as the books you've read? Do you count manga volumes towards your total 'books read' number for the year?

I haven't been, because I feel like I get through them so quickly, and can read such a large number, that it'd through off any estimation of how many prose books I read. But I guess that's no different than just reading a bunch of short stories or novellas.

I don't know . . . my mom's 'comics aren't real reading' opinions have seeped into me even though I mostly disagree.

What do you guys do? (Whether you use an app or website to keep track of your reading, or you just do it in your head).

On this same note, maybe I should make a manga thread in the entertainment forum--we have an anime one, but it feels weird to talk about manga there because it's technically off-topic. (There may be an old thread for it, I just haven't really seen one that's still active).

      I track neither

But I would be interested in a manga thread.

The only manga I've read was the first arc of Berserk, about a year ago. I plan to get back into it eventually. It was good, albeit… incredibly violent.

mkay lol, maybe I'll make a manga thread! Not that I'm currently reading any, I've been too busy, but that should hopefully change soon.

  4. "Where are we going now?" Sharlin asked as the sped across the water. "I'm kind of tired of being out on the ocean for so long, too many creepy gamblers." She give him a grin.
  5. I have successfully started studying, realized my chosen method was terrible, and then ceased to study because it's too late in the day to start a new method.

I actually don't mind the subject, I took a normal HS level biology class and really enjoyed it, it's the teacher and her way of doing things that makes it a nightmare.

  6. @TheRavenHasLanded "Welp. I guess we better be off then."
  7. I appreciate that, and i think I agree to an extent but the fact that there is a precedent of people using those terms wrongly makes me uncomfortable using them without actually 'having' it, if that makes sense. Especially since I've seen members of the community ask people to not use those words. I guess I just don't want to step on anyone's toes or offend anyone. But I think I mentally put more weight on the idea of a diagnosis for myself, because of some of my experiences. The imposter syndrome is just a little too strong, atm. Oh, and I should make it clear that I'm not ignoring my symptoms--I try to let myself stim and manage hyperfixations as best as I can. Now that I know how people like me function and get better, I've been trying to take their advice even though I'm not diagnosed yet.
  8. "Hey, you never said you got to--" Sharlin watches Winter hit the water with wide eyes. Part of her wants to jump in after him, though it's already not to late. Oh . . . I'm sorry . . . She had been ready to see death, it was actually one of the few things that she had gotten good at. But Winter had been a kid. A kid just like . . . And she had foolishly thought she could help him just like--like-- The edges of her vision darkened again. Sharp said tried to say something, but she couldn't hear it. As Winter's shadowy figure sunk into the waves it flickered and changed. That wasn't a fourteen year old boy anymore, now it was her. The white coat dark with blood, her long brown hair floating around her as she slowly fell, her face scratched replaced only with a glowing yellow-- "No, no, no!" Sharlin yelled, slamming a fist against her forehead. "Haha . . . Not again, missy I just dealt with you . . ." She rubbed her thumb over the handle of the gun. That was calming enough. She'd given Winter the cold shoulder most of their alliance to toughen him up, but in the end it simply meant their time together meant nothing. "Oh well!" She told Sharp, "We already knew I wasn't suited to that sort of thing--now we evidence to prove it!" Are . . . you alright? She ignored him. Stupid question. "Hey so we played your game, buddy, can we go now?" She asked the guy in the other boat. Sharlin was tired of sitting around in boats, she wanted to get her feet on some real ground . . . maybe find a fight . . . Yeah, that would her feel better.

At least with this one I don't particularly like the concept on a subjective level, can appreciate that it might work if done well.

So it's not like I'm massively disappointed or anything.

  10. taln fan how could you steal my signature question (jk) Welcome to the Shard! Let's see . . . gotta think of something else . . . what's your favorite book you've read so far? Do you like bagels?
  11. I've actually had a really good weekend, it's been super refreshing and fun. Which is a bit of a surprise because this week was really rough. It does get better guys, you will be warm again
  12. I must admit with utmost solemnity and regret that I was, if fact, wrong.

I went on a day trip yesterday to visit my sister in the next state over.

And ya'll the winter country-side was so so pretty 😔

(I STILL THINK ITS ANNOYING AND UNCOMFERTABLE AND UGLY IN MY HOMETOWN but I guess it's not all bad all the time).

On another note, I desperately do not feel like painting today . . .

  14. Welcome to the Shard! Do you like bagels? Do you have a least favorite character?!
  15. Yeah, , , , , at least I only have one class where I really need them, but that one class is gonna be a struggle
  16. FAV VOCALOID IS REALLY HARD, I LOVE RIN AND LEN, GUMI AND KAITO, BUT PROBABLY LISTEN TO MIKU THE MOST just because I hear her stuff more often I haven't listened to as much Ado, but I love her aishete aishete aishete cover, RuLe, and Odo
  17. OH MY GOSH YESSS I listen to a decent amount of vocaloid, and the majority of it is J-pop so it has the same problem!! Ado is absolute fire as well.
  18. Hmmmm alright then still I think the people around me would be annoyed lol
  19. OH YEAH LOL Plus like, I can and will listen to the same song over and over again for an hour and a half, and I don't think that's considered normal behavior.
  20. Yeah, sometimes I listen to weird or cringe stuff and I don't want to get judged.
  21. Yeah My art teacher does play music over his speakers, but it's a class playlist so it's pretty hit or miss (plus it's just not the same as wearing headphones). Thanks bud
  22. tanks And I really shouldn't procrastinate in that class too, my portfolio is due first of May Twins I'm so sorry, it's a curse Yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeah!!!! Especially in my art class where it's basically open work time every single day. Luckily my teacher allows them.
  23. Is it bad that the second I forget my headphones, any desire to try at school vanishes. Okay mostly it's just for my painting class, because it's impossible for me to focus without listening to something . . . but . . . oh well . . .
