I'm currently halfway through the Silmarillion and really enjoying it. It's definitely not an easy read, but it's not as complicated as some people make it out to be. Plus it's super interesting because I've been doing a lot of world building and this is like the og example.

PoMee noticed the examiner, but ignores them. She catches his cane with a grunt, using her Blessing of Potency to push against his momentum.

Tien was also an artist! He was very talented in carving and made Kaladin the little wooden horse. He and Painter could discuss techniques and other things. I wouldn't be surprised if Painter knew a little about sculpture because it's often used to help you understand painting better. They could nerd out about art things together lol.

PoMee curses and deflects his cane with the undamaged cane. She threw the broken one hard at him, like a javelin, knowing it wouldn't do her much good otherwise.

Whist dug in her bag and pulled out her wallet. She pulled out a large wad of cash. "Larsik gave me this to help with the quest." She walks over to the soldier who looks like he's in charge, under Muriel of course. "Can I help you?" he asks in a gruff voice. He seems happy to take a break from slacking off to talk.

"Okay!" She bounces energetically though the door and sits down at one of the tables. "We went to a haunted house! There wasn't any mushrooms though."

I'm so sorry about your experiences, and I can totally understand how that could relate to Lirrin and Kaladin's relationship. For me, I've struggles with lots of (un-diagnosed) depression and anxiety, and the idea of someone treating me the way Lirrin does to Kaladin is mortifying (Especially since I find my depression is very similar to his). I agree that the books really haven't touched enough on how awful he is, and I'm hoping for some of that in SA5 (like you said).
