  1. hmmm . . . I've always kind of been on the fence about him. One the one hand, I relate to him a lot for a few reasons. I think he makes a pretty good contrast with Adolin, in a story structure sense, and I think he's a really good character. He does a good job of showing us that all the Alethi nobility aren't the same, from the very beginning of the story. He does have some really good moments too, like when he comforted drunk Dalinor in the OB flashbacks. But on the other hand, like you said, it seems he never steps up to his problems or has any major character development. I could completely understand how he acted and even the self pitying thing in the first book, but I feel like he hasn't changed at all since then when he had every opportunity and reason to get 'stronger' or maybe more independent. I'm not saying he should change as a person, or loose any of his quirks, that's not right (and I believe he's meant to have Autism, which is super cool on the representation side of things). But I do think he could maybe try and make more decisions for himself. It kind of feels like everyone is dragging him around from place to place, and he never decides to do anything. The lack of character development makes him seem repetitive and boring in the later books, imo. Perhaps SA5 will fix things, or give him some time to shine. So . . . I can't really decide if I like him or not. He's certainly an integral part of the story, and I'm glad he's there. I think Brandon could have done more with his character development, but considering how many characters he juggles with this series, it's understandable for someone to get sidelined. I don't think Renarin is a bad character, but he isn't going on my list of favorite characters anytime soon.

apparently, if you find the right music to listen to, doing homework is somehow easier???

it's called breakcore, there's playlists of it on youtube. It's not the kind of music for everyone though . . . it's basically electronicy music with a super duper uper fast drum beat. The 'hyperness' of it made me hyper lol

  3. Oh yeah! My friend and I actually discussed this. He read the original version, and I read the 10th anniversary edition. It makes sense that we get a different understanding of what happened based on that.
  4. "We're screwed."
  5. Once again, thanks for the answers. I knew if I were to ask anywhere it would be here
  6. Ooooooh okay, thanks that makes much more sense. I get it now. Now I gotta go show my friend lol
  7. That does sound right now that you say it, it's been a few months since I read the book myself. But that doesn't change the fact about how the line needs to be drawn inside the square and it's not, does it? Because if it's meant to be the lake, that's great. But on the city scale, the dot is just that one building in the center. The issue is not with the dot, but with the placement of the chasm inside or outside of the square. If it does change things then please explain because I don't really understand.
  8. "Bro I didn't know it was following me!" Chiyo said, throwing her hands up defensively. "Plus, I definitely don't want to be alone with it."
  9. So . . . my friend finished Elantris recently and really enjoyed it. But he had one big complaint. The logic of the climax of the book when Raoden uses a stick to draw the chasm in the Aon that is the city itself, he draws it in the wrong place. The facts line up . . . and I'm not sure if there's an explanation for this. But, knowing Brandon there may have been something we both missed, so I thought I'd ask here. Here's the argument: This is a map of Arelon: and this is the base Aon: Which is meant to mimic the placement of Elantris (the dot) and the border of the country (as seen above). In the map above, the chasm which changes all the Aons is inside the border of the country, and therefore should be inside the outside "square," to make the Aon right again. Right? This is Aon Rao, the one that the city Elantris is based on: So, based on the info above, if we were to add the chasm it should be inside that central box, correct? Because the chasm is inside the country's border, and the box represents the country's border. So Here-ish maybe: The Aon also works as a rudimentary map of Elantris itself, and the central box represents the city's outer wall. But . . when we read the ending of the book Raoden is clearly described as drawing the line for the chasm outside the city walls. But from the info above it needs to be inside the city walls, because that's the correct placement for it. We know that the chasm has to be in a specific place because in some of the earlier chapters Raoden puts it in the incorrect place and the Aon fails. So . . . is this a mistake? Or our we missing something.
  10. heh bot Welcome to the Shard!!! Don't listen to them, Truthwatchers are awesome and there's always room for more (*is a truthwatcher*) Do you have a favorite kind of bagel?
  11. "The one that tried to kill me yesterday lol," Chiyo holds up her bandaged ankle for them to see.
  12. "Oh no ya'll the ghost followed me."
  13. "Woah that's cool."
  14. Random update on the thing from last SU:

we went to the art gallery thing, and it was just as uncomfy as I thought it would be but it's over now. We didn't stay very long though (because there really wasn't much to do) and so now I'm concerned I offended my art teacher for leaving to soon because he was surprised when we left, but I'm not gonna worry about it.

So we're good. It wasn't great (for me anxiety), but it's over now.

  15. "How about BBQ sauce then?"
  16. "Maybe if I dip it in white chocolate . . "
  17. "But what if there's a delicious combination out there that we miss? That would be awful! You have to try everything to make sure you find everything!"
  18. "Mhm, mhm . . . do you think anything could be done to improve the flavor? maybe some paprika?"
  19. Chiyo perks up and pulls out her notebook, "Would you say they taste good?"
  20. "Can I come? I'm bored."
