Pic refused to loop his song, he needed to hear everything that was going on. He heard Aventines echo, and echoed her echo. He stopped leading the song, and followed her echoes, waiting to see if she would continue. Pic chuckled at JM’s behavior, and continues singing with Aventine. As she takes melody, Pic shifts to a purely harmony role. He supports the happy melodies that Aventine is singing, even though she didn’t look like she felt them at the moment. She did look like she needed the happy melodies though. As the song continues, he puts a hand over her hand.

Pic looked at her, concern evident on his face. He opened his mouth to say something, but then thought better of it and closed it. A few seconds later he did the only thing he knew how to do: sing. A quick, lilting melody escaped his lips, full of life, full of new beginnings, and containing many happy endings. Pic hummed the same short melody a few times, not adding to it. After about 30 seconds, he turned to watch and see if Aventine would sing along.

Pic seemed to realize his words had an adverse effect. He hesitantly went over to Aventine and sat on the floor next to her. “Did I say something dumb?” He asked.

Pic nodded. "Nothing started with him. Everything simply... ended. So he is He Who Ends." He shivered in the chair and then forced a laugh. "Hopefully he won't end us!" He exclaimed with forced bravado.

“I don’t know. It was like since He Who Ends was ending my song, I couldn’t function for very long, if you can call what I was doing functioning.”

Pic nodded with uncertainty, then stopped all of a sudden. “Dissonance! I’m in your cot, aren’t I?” He hurriedly gets up and heads to the nearest chair. “Here, you have more to worry about than I do, and you’re supposed to rest for a day more.”

“Yeah, just… tired,” he hummed in reply. “Are you OK?”

Pic awoke in a flurry of breath. How long had he been out for? What has happened right before he fell asleep? There was a voice. Pic remembered. He strained his mind, and everything came to him in a flash. The forbiddance of song, the exclusivity of endings. He Who Ends talked to me. Pic thought. At the edges of his memory, Pic had images of a dream he had where He Who Ends talked to… Aventine? Yes, no one else would have had such a melodic voice. But He Who Ends was polite, and didn’t really end anything. He also remembered peace and acceptance coming off of both He Who Ends and Aventine. But that made no sense! Why would anyone have peace in his presence? Pic shivered on the bed. Pic sniffled in his sleep.

A pulse of peace and joy radiated through the conversation and quickly died out. Aventine recognized this as the same feeling she had when singing with Pic, though much weaker and much shorter than the actual song inspired.
