I generally just write about a character in a standalone post and hope somebody engages, but sometimes I'll have characters fall from the sky. Or threaten to kill Shoe. That's how Bat was born.

    He shoved his hands in his pockets and hurried over. "Hey," he said softly. "Is there, uh--- sorry if it's a bad time--- is there any--- any food?" He might be able to if he knew anything about looks. But fear not, he'd never thought about romance in his life.

    He nodded. He DID feel better being here. Mrs. Whitlock led them into the kitchen, where the promised meal awaited in a large wok. There was pork in it too, as well as the greens and mushrooms. She’d gone crazy with the vegetables, adding plenty of onions, peppers, carrots, and even peas. “Same thing. I don’t know either.”

    “I just made fried greens and mushrooms!” “Well, exkeyooze me for not knowing every single thing about civilized society,” he snapped back.
