  1. Next time he says that, I’ll have said it first, she vowed to herself. Ashli led him down the corridor. “We have some very fast mounts, but they’re… unconventional, so you’ll just use a horse on the way, and then on the way to the Evikian pass… you’re not afraid of heights,” she checked.
  2. “Bye.” She pulled away, hiding the tiny rose that had fallen randomly from her hair. Don’t just summon roses. It’s weird. “I’ll miss you. Good luck. Don’t die, or I’ll go insane.” And she meant that. Ashli beckoned him.
  3. “We better go. We need all the time we can get.” Haly glared at nobody in particular. ”Its for your own good, Evalyn,” she sighed. “You wanna marry that guy?” ”No, not really.” ”Exactly. Finished saying goodbyes?”
  4. “Please do.” She smiled to herself. “Thank you.” Eventually Ashli knocked. Haly stared at the door, unwilling to open it.
  5. “I know. That makes me happy. But you leaving makes me sad. With a deep breath she embraced him. “I’ll let you get going.”
  6. She saddened again. “I guess so. With Tiernan on the prowl, it’s probably doubly smart. When do you have to leave?”
  7. She looked surprised. “Of course he’s not dead! Cjehu knows better than that!”
  8. “It’s ready.” She patted it. “But what’s going on?”
  9. She shrugged. “He might well be dead. Last time I heard from him, he said he was stuck to a wall in rising water. So why do you need to leave?”
  10. “Oh. I’m sorry.” And he truly sounded it. “Can I help?” ”No, I…” she swallowed. “I just need some time.” Tiernan nodded, glanced at TAAron, and then left sort of reluctantly.
  11. Tiernan hurried toward them, slowing when he saw TAAron. “Evalyn, I…” His eyes flicked between them. “Wanted to… make sure…you’re okay.” Concerned, he noticed her distress. In a flash of brilliance, she pressed her hand over her mouth. “I’m fine. It’s just… my brother… he’s dead.” Tears came to her eyes, but mostly fuled by the idea of TAArom leaving.
  12. “I… I guess. If you want.” She gulped. “But do you have to? I’m scared… what if you don’t come back?” The worry was a whisper.
  13. “But… why not somebody else? Do you have to go?” Panic had crept in and she felt a desperate need to keep him from leaving.
  14. “Wait.” Her head spun, then stopped. “You’re… leaving?”
  15. “Don’t wor try, it’ll smooth over. Probably. What is it?”
  16. “He’s up to something,” Tiernan muttered. “Watch your step. He could be after you.” ”Oh. Uh. I don’t think so. He’s here for the stuff. He’s helpful with political matters.” ”He shouldn’t be in here without your permission,” Tiernan insisted, concerned. “You should post a guard.” ”I’ll think about it,” she promised. “But he’s really not a threat.” A new possibility flickered in his eyes. “Ah. You know best, I suppose.” They made a few attempts at conversation, but eventually he said good night and left. Haly chewed her lip as he exited and walked away toward his room. Well, chasms. I should have humored him or something. She stepped into the hall to look for TAAron.
  17. Eventually, she did, and Tiernan was with her. She froze when she saw TAAron, uncertainty flicking through her eyes. “Hey, Evander.” Tiernan was rather confused.
  18. “Perfect. Bye, see you later.” She opened the door for him, then scribbled down on a piece of paper.
  19. Happy new year!

I went to a church dance and elected to devote the evening to scientific findings on the species of Homo Sapiens, or humans, as opposed to my own species and subspecies—evil author. I shall copy my notes here. Some few of them are about individual members of the species, but more muse on behaviors of the animals as a whole.

    • In the light, the dark-haired girls look like redheads. Very redheads.
    • There is an irritating gaggle of people blocking my vantage.
    • When a human is cut off from its pack, or has nobody to speak with, it must distract itself at all costs—a phone will do, or food, or a notebook (do not stoop to such. My writing it scientific findings, not a distraction. Let us be very clear on that point).
    • There is a girl in a wheelchair with a broken leg, who I see with a boy who is teasing her. Friend or date, I don’t know.
    • When this species gets together, they form a huge, shifting clump, effectively creating a ‘maze’ difficult to navigate.
    • Tragic how these creatures need songs written by those they don’t know to feel good about themselves. Can’t they tell they are already wonderful?

    • Somehow, the way they jump up and down with fists in the air makes even one like me wish to join them.
    • A large amount of males has congregated at the opposite wall for no apparent reason.
    • I shall now progress into field study.

    • Field study is exhausting. I shall prowl the perimeters of the room as an alternative.
•The knot in the center of the room is not the only place humans frequent. Not even most, possibly not even half, dance there. The others dance and chat in small groups.

    • As the night ages, the population of those who seek sustenance swell to unbelievable numbers.
    • Two boys did a flip--one over the other. I shall not theorize.
    • The boy has stolen her wheelchair.
•Approximately everyone thinks they’re weird, even if it’s simply subspecial traits manifest to by themselves. The only ones who can properly claim to be weird are the people who actually are. If you’re reading this, that’s probably you. Congratulations.

    • Boys like the halls…?

    • When viewed as a group, humans appear to be a single organism, a single mass… as opposed to separate, individual entities.

    • There is a most unusual force utilized to make any subspecies of author (perhaps reader also) to feel inferior when walking among humans, when, in fact, we are immeasurably superior to the animal in question.

    • Shyness is not a byproduct, but a precursor of a good dance.

That was fun. Really fun. Again, happy 2023!

…I’m glad I didn’t see this until now. Good notes, all of which seem accurate.

Capture the flag is much better than dancing, especially if there are swords involved.

We females are terrifying, guys are way funner to be around, especially when you can bench press more than they can. B)

      Swords?

      Capture the flag?

I agree wholeheartedly that that is more fun than dancing.

Swords yes! Capture the flag… maybe if I had any endurance at all!

  20. “I’ll send the bird. You say goodbyes. How’s that?”
  21. “She’ll be fine,” Ashli insisted. “It won’t be the work of more than a week, if we play it right.”
  22. “Okay…” she tied it around her eyes, tangled it with her hair, and then destroyed it. Grumbling, she tore another strip of cloth from her tunic and used that. “I need a hair elastic.”
  23. “Yeah. Here.” She pulled it out of her bag. “Why? Is something wrong?” She looked around suspiciously.
  24. MEEE I DO JESUS HAS PERSONALITY AND THAT IS SO SCUDDING RIGHT I just really like that he seems like a human and also the show is really great. All of the above.
