He sighed hugely. He hated obstacles like this.
"Wish it were a bunch of mercenaries instead," he mumbled. "Then at least we could be doing something." He pulled out his pistol and fired into the fog. "This is boring."
"Yeah. Hmm. Well..... I'd guess the magic became a part of her somehow, or maybe always was. Being dependent on it, that's what happened when it got taken away."
"Yes, yes, me--" She halted and stared at him. "This isn't casual? Is something wrong?"
"Oh... I was asking about my magic because I got rid of it and now I'm acting weird when I'm not magically connected to TAAron."
She stared at Haly.
She nodded. "Good." Then she stepped inside.
Her mother was browsing through some stacks by the desks, but she looked up when her daughter entered. She beamed. "Halcyon!"
"Hi, Mom." She hugged her. "Do you know anything about my magic?"
Her mother shook her head. "Not really. Your magic comes from my side, and I suspect it may have roots in the western wilds."
