  1. “Oh,” Bat said, eyeing Rebus. He didn’t know why, but Rebus put him on edge. “Turn me blue, then?” Bat stepped away. “Thread-awareness?” “Yeah… me neither.”
  2. Haly tilted her head at her reflection in the glass door. The receptionist let them in. “Hello, I’m Doctor Hagony’s assistant. What can I do for you?”
  3. “Okay.” She tipped her head up to watch the clouds.
  4. He nodded, swallowed, and took a deep breath. “Turn me into glass. No, metal.”
  5. She frowned sadly, but let him lead her. “Aw.”
  6. “It’s okay.” He sat next to her. “Really, it’s okay. I should have asked you from the beginning, probably. I just… don’t wanna be different. And I wanna know how I feel.” She shrugged and pet Qodi. “I… I’m trying. But I don’t think I’m much of a hero. And I don’t know why I’d be in the prophecy.” Bat smiled at him.
  7. Haly did indeed become rather absent, watching the shops they went past. At one point she broke off in the direction of a bookstore.
  8. Ehehehehe I have spread the scud "Well... please, just don't... not without telling me... I need to know who I am, and when I can't feel things, I'm not... I... I'm sorry. I just... I need to know who I am." He messed with the buckle on his satchel.
  9. "Yeah." She led him to the front gates of the palace. "Leaving so soon?" The guard saluted. Haly nodded, feeling incapable of human interaction at the moment.
  10. Granted. You can only beat AIs, but you can beat all of them. I wish to be 100x better at every aspect of writing than I already am.
  11. She stumbled into the wall and leaned for support. This was definitely worse than she remembered. She took a deep, shuddery breath. "Okay."
  12. She closed her eyes to visualize it. "Out the palace, down the main street, third left onto Hargrove, and then it's on the right with a sign shaped like a snake."
  13. He stared at her for a second. "You... no, no, don't do that!" He stepped back, reaching for another bottle, but he paused. He didn't want to break another one. And now he felt sick again. "Please," he said, fist tightening around the neck of the bottle. . "Please never change me. Not... me, please. If I don't have my emotions, I... don't have anything."
  14. "Probably now," she admitted. "So they have time to manifest."
  15. He frowned. He didn't feel so much like thowing up. This wasn't so bad. He looked down at himself, but nothing had changed. "What did you do?"
  16. He nodded. "Just do it, please. I think I'll throw up if I have to imagine any longer."
  17. He nodded hard. "Yeah, just do it. I'll be okay." He was NOT gonna be okay! He was gonna DIE! You're not gonna die, he told himself. Tam's nice. You're gonna be fine. She's human, remember? His hand strayed into his bag to touch the flower and he took a deep breath.
  18. She frowned. "I'm okay with that, I think."
  19. She shook her head. "Sykel researched a lot of that stuff, but I think she's in Nolikar right now."
  20. "I'll be even less comfortable when some uncaring rando takes all my bones and makes me into human soup. I wanna try it."
  21. "I don't know if we have any magic doctors."
  22. "You know better than I do." He paused, looking disturbed. "I guess.... we should run tests or something. I need my tattoos to work."
