My bff and I got each other early Christmas presents and this wonderful human being got me this:

    Spoiler

    TLM.png.ddfab0ec441a3df4a784e5def178e25c.png

And what makes this a million times more thoughtful is that she absolutely is sick of me nattering on about Brandon and trying to get her to read anything by him. Besides the fact that she wont read Sanderson I have the best bff ever!!!

    ahhhhhhhhh iloveitiloveitiloveit:D

  4. Ahhhh thanks, that should be better!
  5. Indeed it is!! I just finished drawing this! My little bro wanted me to draw a “dude with fire hair” so an attempt was made. The hair doesn’t look very fire-y but it is still pretty cool! Oh and just ignore the thing in the top left that was just for me to remember where my light source was.
  6. Welcome! Lift is awesome indeed. Would you rather be a Kandra or Returned? Edit: Oh and this is why there are so many Ooklas
  7. Welcome to the Shard! The place where everyone is a little bit crazy friendly and nerdy!
  8. I made an art thread!! It is called Cin's sketches n' stuff (yay alliteration).

Thanks Star, Aes, and Facepalm for giving me that final shove.

I am quite nervous to share my art with anyone except my little brother, but I know you will all be nice. Please give me feedback. I want to get better!

  9. Hello, my name is Cinnamon and this is my art thread! (Shock horror! Really??!). I am going to post random things I do, mostly sketches, perhaps the occasional something else, if I write a thing that I want feedback on, or make a really good looking meal or something. We'll see! That is the mystery of the " n' stuff " at the end of the thread title. I would really appreciate it if you could give me lots of constructive criticism because I really want to improve my skills and become better at this thing I love! So without further ado... here are some sketches for y'all. That is all for now, but you will soon get more! Please give me feedback, and I hope you enjoy!
  10. Welcome to the shard! If you do feel like joining in discussion at some point we have some really cool ones here, but lurking is awesome too! Who is funnier in your opinion? Lift, Lightsong, or Wayne?
  11. Welcome to the shard! We’re glad to have you here! What is your favourite Cosmere series?
  12. Should I start an art thread?
I mean I want to because I think it would be a great way to improve my confidence and get feedback, but would anyone care?
    Hmm …

To art or not to art?

That is the question I bring to you.

Same as star :D when i first posted i was totally sure my art was trash, but King of the Oreo (may he rest in peace (don't worry he's not actually dead he just deleted his account)) sent me fanmail and it 100% boosted my confidence.

  13. Baby centaurs. The horse part is walking around within hours of birth, but the human part is a floppy, wrinkled up baby for years. - @Ookla the Ta'veren
  14. All the Warbreaker art is so pretty so I decided to change my profile to some of this beautiful work. Credit to DAN DOS SANTOS for both my pfp and the banner!

Ookla season  officially begins on On Nov. 26 the birthday of Peter Ahlstrom's and ends Brandon's birthday many Sharders change their usernames to some variation on "Ookla the [something]" in honour of Peter as his old username was "Ookla the Mok" . lots of people change back before Brandons b'day.

      This thread:

      explains it better.

I did research when I was confused incase you couldn't tell

  21. I’m back!!! I would like to publicly announce that I am back on the shard! I was only gone for three days, and nobody probably noticed that I was gone, but I am back! I had the most wonderful weekend that I could possibly imagine (hyperbole ;) @Robin Sedai) and I want to tell you guys what I did because I am just so excited about it even though it is over!

    Sooooo let us begin!

    Friday:

Friday was a student free day for marking our exams; so already a great day, I had finished the last of my assessment tasks for  the evening before (I’m in the Southern Hemisphere so our school year technically ended today but that is a confusing thing for another time) so I spent the entire day practicing for Beauty and the Beast, reading Oathbringer  and watching Gilmore girls (don’t judge)

    Saturday:

this is where the amazingness started. I spent the ENTIRE DAY from 9am to 9thirtypm at my local theatre!! My drama school was having shows all weekend and even though I wasn’t performing on Sat I was asked to help out! They did the Wizard of Oz jr. first and that was so good! I helped out with costuming, quick changes, set moving and I sang in the wings! And then… it was time for the next show! This one was performed by the ‘Masterclass’ all of the elder performers (16-18yo) it was Little Shop of Horrors and OH MY STORMING GOSH IT WAS RUSTING INCREDIBLE!! The vocals were amazing , the lead actors? Chef’s kiss. And the set? My lord it was BEAUTIFUL. Everything was so cool and our Audrey II was rusting amazing. It was seriously the coolest version of it I have ever seen and it was huge. I helped out backstage and I LOVED IT. Also, the girl who played Audrey was my mentor when I first started doing drama, she taught me so many things and it was so awesome to see her play that role and smash it.

    Spoiler

I teared up when she died.

    Ahhhh it was amazing!

    Sunday: the big shabang!

I got to the theatre at 10:30 am (I had a sleep in from the night before because I didn’t get home till late)

On the agenda was Aladdin jr. and then… Beauty and the beast jr.! (Me)

for the Aladdin show I helped out backstage, helped with costumes and they got me to sing in the wings again (♪priiince aliiiiii♫)

Then it was time for my show. Dun dun dun! I was playing Mrs. Potts and it took me a good twenty minutes to get into my costume. There were so many layers! I had a harness with a teapot skeleton, then the actual dress with a giant spout, two aprons and a shawl-y thing. I also had a wig and a hat. It was really heavy but it was totally worth it. We did a full dress tech run and everyone was freaking out because we kept messing up and props were breaking willy-nilly, but eventually we did it. And it was so GOOD. It was almost like we needed to mess up beforehand so we wouldn’t in the actual shows!

so yup, that was my (long) weekend! IDK if anyone cares but that’s it! It made me really happy and theatre is what I love (and reading of course!)

note: um in case it was not clear to you , I am a ‘theatre kid’ I very much love the stage, musicals and acting.

note 2: I wrote this when I just came back to the Shard but then the editor lost it :,( and then it recovered! :D . So technically I’ve been back for a few hours now, but let’s just ignore that.

    2. Shining Silhouette

      Shining Silhouette

      Woah! That sounds so fun!

Theatre kids are the best :D.

  22. @Shining Silhouette okay, so she obviously noticed you on the first day and then got your attention, definitely what I would do if I liked someone, but I would also do that if I thought someone was cool and wanted to be friends with them. The laughing about the snake thing honestly seems more like it’s leaning towards the former but the drawing on the arm, I think is something people do with their friends and I would be way to scared to do that to somebody I had I crush on (I conferred *subtly* with my female friends and they concur) this girl seems like she is very confident though. I wouldn’t read too much into it because she might just want to be your friend (you seem pretty awesome silho, who wouldn’t!) I can say from personal experience that sometimes girls are nice to guys because they want to be friends, not because of RoMAntiC aTtRaCtiON, and it can be quite annoying when somebody assumes you have a crush on them and then everything is weird afterwards. So my advice to you is just be chill and don’t assume anything unless you have reasonable grounds. Perhaps try hanging out with them more if you wish to discern any ulterior motives, or just become friends with them because anybody who pushes someone off a cliff (harmlessly) seems like someone I’d want to be friends with.
  23. Granted. Lift steals them. I wish for a pumpkin pie
  24. three???? I only know of two!
  25. I’m scared…

Sorry this took so long, my internet went kaput :P

      Anecdote time!

Okay so mini me was very nervous. It was my first day of secondary school (it’s an Aussie thing). We had done some icebreakers in the morning, your usual orientation stuff, but we still needed to meet our core subject teachers. We had English next and everyone was worried because we knew that there were some really mean strict English teachers. We all stood behind our chairs and in walks this young man with a curly manbun, and a very vibey outfit (full three piece suit with a fun tie and sweater, 100% eccentric English teacher vibes) there is not a hair on his face, walks in and puts his stuff on the desk. Everyone is like ‘who is this? He can’t be our English teacher can he?’ then one kid (his name was Josh, we had three joshes in my class that year) says ”who are you?” THIS MAN jumps on the spinny chair (on his knees) spins around until he is level with Josh, stands up, puts one arm up like he is holding a fencing foil and exclaims “I am Inigo Montoya, you killed my father! Prepare to die!”. That was the best introduction I have heard to this day. It immediately killed the tension in the room.

But Cin! This has nothing to do with hyperbole! Ah yes, but I thought it was important you were introduced to the man who tells this story so you can understand the style and flair with which he told it (he also did voices, he was great at accents and one time we managed to convince the primary kids that he was a French exchange teacher that didn’t speak English, but that is a story for another time)

So the class went on, everybody loved him and we were learning about persuasive language techniques and Mr. – writes “HYPERBOLE” on the board. Then a boy named Jonah goes “hyper-bowl, huh?” Mr. -  swings around and says in the most nasal-y old man voice “It’s Hi-per-bo-lee”. Then he goes, well, I suppose I owe you the story now I say “What story?” and he goes “Well, when I went to high school I did Latin, honestly I only took it for the extra marks and because it was nearly the only time I could see [insert his now wife’s name] because our school was divided into boy/girl sections, anyway, my Latin teacher HATED when people said hyperbole wrong so we would always do it just to annoy him, the people in my class would always ask him if things were ‘an example of hyper-bowl’ etcetera and he would always respond ‘It’s Hi-per-bo-lee’ ” he went to recreate a scene of him being a rowdy student abd asking the teacher about “hyper-bowl” it was HILARIOUS

So that is what I forever associate the word hyperbole with. This guy and our drama teacher are the best teachers in the whole school (that I’ve had). Mr. – was the one who introduced me to Sanderson and lent me his Stormlight books when I finished Mistborn. He is he reason I love English as much as I do.
